The towbar mounted BUZZ RACK Scorpion is a great choice for anyone who wants to carry 2 bikes, especially heavy bikes or electric bikes. It is particularly easy to move around, to fit, and to store, and has some really clever design features.
Bike carriers that are strong enough for electric bikes tend to be pretty beefy themselves, so
handling these heavier bike carriers can be awkward. The Scorpion is a solid
carrier, but because it folds up it's relatively very easy to move
about and to fit, without straining your back. Carry it to the tow ball in
the folded position – there’s a handle above the tow ball clamp, so it’s an
easy vertical lift. Place it over the tow ball – you'll be standing above
the tow ball, not some distance behind it. You'll also find that the
Scorpion stays level and does not crash to the ground when you let go of it.
Tighten, lock, unfold – all parts click into place, including the number
plate holder.
It’s particularly easy to tilt, with the tilt control just above the number
plate. The lights are 5 function – they include a reversing light and a fog
light if you have a 13 pin socket - and are UK legal, i.e. the fog light is
on the right hand side / off side.
These carriers are supplied ready to go; no assembly work is required.
It’s small enough when folded to be stored in a car boot.
It self-adjusts to all tow balls.
Fitting is a matter of spinning a hand-turning wheel, a really quick, easy
and ergonomically satisfactory thing to do. Turn the key in the tightening wheel
and the carrier is then locked to the tow ball. An additional couple of turns on
a Nyloc nut is usually required (spanner supplied), depending on the tow ball,
to make sure the carrier won’t move from side to side.
It sits high on the tow ball, well clear of speed bumps and other hazards
such as steep ferry ramps.
It's suitable for all bikes, including electric and other heavy bikes up to 30kg
each, making it excellent long term value.
The wheel holders will accommodate all wheelbases, even very small
children's bikes.
The wheel straps are tough, easily adjusted and are long enough to hold the
biggest rims we've found.
An extra anti-sway strap is included to prevent the front wheel from
vibrating.
Both bike holders have locks, and the carrier also locks to the tow ball.
A steel frame helps protect the lights.
All parts are replaceable if e.g. someone forgets that a tow bar carrier is
fitted and reverses into a wall - which happens!
A Fat Bike wheel adapter is available.
Dimensions: 105cm wide by 62cm deep (measured from the centre of the tow
ball mount to the outside edge of the number plate holder).
The BUZZ RACK Scorpion comes with a 5 function 13 pin lighting system, with
UK compliant fog lights, i.e. the fog light is on the right hand side / offside.
A 7 to 13 adapter is also provided, for cars with 7 pin systems (if you have a 7
pin socket the reversing light and fog light will not work - the 7 pin socket
isn't wired for these functions).
The build quality - tube bending, welding, rust proofing, painting,
component quality, is exemplary!

I have seen one of these (or one very like it) at Blackpool. The chap just tilted it forward, got his helmet and jacket out the back, removed his bike, then uncoupled the rack and popped it in the back. It all happened very quickly.
I have never personally used one but certainly would (being a tent camper with no trailer is definately a bonus)

They certainly look good, but I am surprised they dont mention the weight of the rack itself, especially as they are pushing it being easier on your back than some other designs.
We have a Thule one, the non-folding version as this is simply too expensive, and it's ace. We are tent campers, and have enough room in the boot for all our gear with the bikes on behind. If we need to get into the boot, then the thing tilts to allow the door to open. We've even left the bikes on it overnight when stopping at a b&b en-route once, locked of course!
These are great in that they can fit into the boot of your car while you are off cycling. Very handy when you can sometimes be parking in some rather remote car parks so dont want to leave it unattended while accessing some great cycle trails, one example was the Goss Moor Trail in Cornwall.
As for insurance, you should have told your insurer that you have a towbar as these are normally a "modification" to your vehicle. But you are not actually towing, so it hasn't made a difference to my policy.
Also, something we've not yet done but are planning to is taking it either on a ferry or through the Chunnel. As long as the combined length of your car and the rack is below their limit, you dont pay extra like you sometimes have to if you are taking a trailer.
The other handy thing being tenters is that the rack can sit nicely behind the tent with bikes stood and locked to it, so acts as a mobile bike-park too!
Oh, final comment about not being able to use one if you tow a caravan, our last rack was a different design, and the chap we got it from had fixed a tow-ball sticking up from the a-frame front link thing at the front of his van (sorry, not being a vanner I dont know the proper name!) so he attached the van to the car, then this towball attached to the van took the rack. He showed me photos and it was very impressive, and of course, it gave him somewhere secure for the bikes while they were on site too.
