Stephenson's Arms at Wylam and Hexham Racecourse, have stayed at both with a caravan. I think you could get a bus from the racecourse to the Wall.

You can get a bus or train from Newcastle to Wylam, the railway station is quite close to the campsite, and a national cycleway runs next to it.

Hadrian’s Wall Campsite near Haltwhistle is lovely and a trivial stroll from the wall. Was popular with cyclists doing Hadrians’s cycle way whilst we were there. Handy for Vindolanda and Housesteads.
