The friendliest welcome from the owner on a busy Friday evening and exceptional professional personal service from his team of young people!

The tap room down the path was fab and the pizza delivery the owner recommended was also fab.

The facilities are plentiful and clean, the showers are hot and no queues.

Prices are per person and reasonable.

We could stay until 6pm departure day too!

Lovely views and path to Chedder or the cider barn from the campsite.

Owner offered the kids and parents fun tractor rides and he was available on site with his lovely do if you needed anything.

This is a site with personality and space, it’s fun and chilled at the same time.

Great for kids and separate field for adults, well behaved groups facilitated with fire pits to hire.

What more could you want?

We stopped here for 4 nights. The site is basic and so are that facilities but they're clean and the showers are amazing.

This is camping back to its roots, gorgeous location Mendip hills make an awesome scenery out in an open field. They supply wood and a casket for making your very own campfire which is highly recommended in the cold nights.

The Staff were all excellent and very friendly and there's plenty of information around. The location is excellent and close to all amenities (10 - 15 min walk to the gorge).

If you want a great camping experience and great location this is for you, but there is no pub/playground/shop etc.

This is a campsite to cover any camper in any vehicle or tent, either lone, family, couples or groups. Several fields to camp in, electric hook ups, water available, all flat and close to spotlessly clean toilet, shower and washing up facilities.

Little shop on site and staff are so friendly and bubbly. Camp fire pits and logs can be delivered to your pitch which is a lovely idea. Beautiful scenery, lots of lovely walks. Easy 10 min walk to local sainsburys for supplies.

Good bus routes to explore and of course within walking distance of cheddar village which is beautiful in itself. Lovely little stream about 5 mins walk away to paddle in and a bit further is a community swimming pool (need to book).

I stay fairly often, sometimes with family and also on my own, always felt safe there. Beautiful sunsets to just gaze at. Rolling hills and green fields all around.

One of my favourite sites! Also have a kiddies play area where the children just seem to gather, go a bit feral and make up games and new friends, be in nature.

Beautiful place!

Wow. What a site! It's soooo refreshing to come across a site that encourages camp fires. I didn't have one but I've already started to plan a trip up with my family and another with a mate of mine.

I had attended a funeral in Trowbridge on my arrival day and having come up from east Devon, I didn't fancy a long drive all the way back and seeing as I've just got into car camping, this seemed like a perfect place to stop. The website really stood out mainly for the humour (right up my street!) and very easy to navigate with all the information you would need.

I arrived when it was dark and Abby came out to greet me. As it's a quieter part of the season and camping in my car for the one night, I was allowed to park up on one of the hard standing pitches mainly because of the amount of recent rain. Abby was very friendly and happy to answer my questions.

The driveways are lit up with discreet but visible little flashing LEDs in the ground - nothing obtrusive and they flash very slowly, like airport runway lights only slower.

Its location is great, so close to Cheddar Gorge so anyone wanting to find things to do won't be disappointed.

We live locally and I take my 2 grandkids camping, one 14, one 8. 14 Yr old has his own tent, 8 Yr old sleeps in van with me. First visit to petruth.

On arrival we checked in and met by lovely lad who explained the site to us. We chose family friendly and were offered different pitches.

We were escorted there via a little buggy and shown where to pitch. This was a good sized pitch, near the play area. Play area is logs, huge 'cotton reel' structures, a tractor and a jeep to climb over, plus a football area.

Toilets were plenty and always clean, big shower cubicles, with ample washing up area and waste bins, fresh water all close by. Beautiful views of hills surrounding and cows in next field.

Kids loved the play area, lots of imagination play there! Room for football play, kites, bikes, dogs so not on top of each other.

Staff in the shop let us know the safe way to walk to cheddar, went for a swim at the leisure centre and a walk to town for food and ice cream and a lovely walk by the pond/river.

It's a good unstructured place, offering log fires, they tow a trailer of wood, kindling etc to use in the available burners, lovely to see the fires and people chatting around them with kids playing safely.

The site has a good, warm, quirky and friendly vibe to it, clean, no littering, safe and welcoming.

Will return for sure!

Love this site as it's so well situated for walking into Cheddar and is really quirky.

I've been slow uploading my reviews, it's now 2026 and we went back in 2025 and everything still the same.

Individual toilet and shower cubicles, plenty of space.

The site is massive - you can be in a real quiet area if you like.

Owners are fantastic, so friendly, chatty and helpful. You can have a firepit and they sell the logs.

It was a bit wet the second time we went but there was plenty of matting down so no issues walking or driving out.

Friendly staff, fab facilities and great pitch size all in a superb location a short walk from the gorge!

Was worried about the electric tariff but needn't have as it was only an extra fiver for the 4 days (3 nights).

Loved the canteen caravan on the weekend, yummy breakfast made to order.

Fantastic site. Beautifully set out, really welcoming staff,

The facilities are new and modern and we're clean whatever time of day you went in.

Great location for exploring the area, but also a gorgeous site to just while away the days on.

This site is conveniently located for walking into Cheddar village to visit the Gorge and Caves.

It is also on the Strawberry Line cycle route, and we managed to get all the way to Cleveden on the Severn Estuary and return.

The camping fields are huge, and I would think that in summer it is very popular with families with children as there is plenty of room for the kids to play.

We got a nice warm reception from Jules the owner, and site manager Abby.

This is our second visit to Petruth and I have to say it is one of the best sites that I have stayed at.

The location is excellent, it is a short walk into Cheddar, where there are two supermarkets and plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants.

Next door is Cheddar FC who we went to watch play on Saturday.

There is also a car boot sale next door on Sunday mornings

Jules and his staff at Petruth really go above and beyond to help guests enjoy their stay.

We will be back again to this great site

The site was great, clean, flexible and the staff were very helpful.

This is the most relaxed site we have stayed on so far and we will be coming back.

The location is great and right by the path way.

Great site

Fantastic site, made even better with the new showers.

Fantastic management team, if you ever want to know how to run a campsite perfectly just ask Jules and the team (or spend a few nights here to experience it).

Rare blend of perfection for adults and children alike.

We tried cycling and camping for the first time, had a great time despite the limited amount of camping gear we could carry.

 Great relaxing place to stay.

Large fields with unassigned pitches so you can camp where you like and even better - put your caravan how you like - tow bar in, sideways or on its roof if you like.

This is brilliant for allowing the sun to set into the awning instead of setting on the unused side of the caravan.

Camp fires also allowed and therefore makes a traditional camping experience.

Much better than these sites with 4m square pitches, picket fences that you cannot reverse your caravan onto and rules, rules, rules along with several hundred signs to 'stop enjoying yourself'.

I wish all sites were like this Petruth Paddocks
