Fantastic site close to tourist attractions and areas of gorgeous countryside.
Visited in September of 2013 with about 15 friends between the ages of 17-19. We're all agreed that this site was perfect and suited our needs brilliantly.
Staff were extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming and even enjoyed a drink with us one evening!
Would definitely recommend this site to campers of all ages and will hopefully be visiting this site again myself soon!

A great friendly site, virtually no rules, camp fires allowed, personally I tour on a motorcycle (a no-no for a lot of places) and a small tent, toilets are adequate and showers are planed for next year (2014) plenty of room unlike sites that draw lines and charge you if you stray over them.
A great location to access Cheddar Gorge, Weston-Super-Mare, Wells, Wooky Hole, etc etc
And for those 'car booters' a massive one in the next field every Sunday
So if you like rules and regulations steer clear of 'Petruth Paddocks' and leave this site for the rest of us rebels--HARLEYMAN

A lovely flat site, that is well maintained. A little bit confusing on entering the site as it is between an industrial estate and a private track. That said there was no noise from the industrial estate.
The owners were very welcoming and friendly and my boy loved the ride on the owners quad bike.
The toilet block was basic but served it's propose and was always clean.
The electric hook ups were far enough apart so you were not on top of your neighbours.
Welcome well behaved dogs.
The surrounding areas have enough for everyone. The site has a car boot sale next to it at the weekends. There is a Cider Barn down the road as well as plenty of farm shops. Cheddar village is in walking distance of the site.
The only down side was there was no waste bins or recycling, however the tip was only a hundred yards or so down the road, but this was not always open at a time that suited us.
Overall a super site that is good value of money and is well located for visiting surrounding areas.

Loved this site it was just what we were looking for surrounded by countryside. We experienced electric hook up for the first time, having camped before without and with the added bonus of having a real camp fire it made our break most enjoyable.
The site during our stay was nice and quiet and there is a car boot on a Sunday in the next field The owner Jules was friendly and helpful. The toilets were basic and a short walk away they are to be refurbished next year.
The site is within walking distance to Cheddar and the caves. There are plenty of shops and eateries / pubs and a pizza delivery to your tent should you not feel like cooking.
All in all a lovely break. Thanks to Jules for making us so welcome we will definitely return.

I arranged a 'catch-up' weekend for a bunch of old university friends and, being local to Cheddar, I chose Petruth Paddocks as our chosen campsite.
It was everything we wanted. Freedom to pitch our tents informally and socialise over campfires long into the evenings (logs provided at a very reasonable cost by the owner).
Jules and family were so welcoming, providing a personal touch which is almost none existent on most campsites. It is this warm welcome and personal touch which really makes Petruth Paddocks stand out.
The site itself is well maintained and has a lovely vibe. There is a nice mix of tents and caravans, young and old, families and groups. Getting tent pegs into the ground is no problem - a welcome relief when arriving late in the evening.
With the promise of new toilets for next year, I can only see Petruth Paddocks going from strength to strength.

We chose this site for its location. We wanted to be within walking distance of cheddar.
There were 3 of us in our party, myself husband and daughter. Though 2 others joined us for the campfire one night.
Though the campsite was very basic we had a thoroughly fantastic time there. There was someone to greet us on arrival and show us to our pitch and they were very helpful with any questions we had.
Our daughter enjoyed the quad rides and the rope swing, just a shame there wasn't a bit more for the children to do.
We had already decided we would be returning to this site, but then heard they would be building a new toilet block during 2014 which is a big bonus.

I stayed for one night, a Friday: me, a bicycle and a tent. The Site willingly accepted my late booking and provided good directions to locate them. There were plenty of spaces in which to pitch a tent, and an excellent visiting pizza van. The Site provided a very good leaflet explaining local facilities. The toilets were adequate, and it was easy to reach the local gym for a shower. Helpful staff wished me well for the next stage of my journey. No petty rules!

Well, I'm converted!
Ordinarily I'm not a lover of camping, but I can't wait to get back to this place!
We went on a Friday and Saturday with 4 adults and 3 4-5 year old girls and we truly loved every minute.
As many of the other reviews have already said, the welcome was warm and very friendly and this humour remained the whole time we stayed.
What is lovely about this site, is that you can choose your pitch when you get there and you aren't restricted to a set size ( as long as you're considerate about it!) and there is such a communal feeling to the place.
What drew us here was the fact that you could camp in traditional sense, purely because we were able to have a camp fire. All in the party were happy - the children really enjoyed toasting marshmallows, the men were happy prodding the fire ( what is it with men and fires?!) and us girls were happy to keep warm.
The fields are lovely and flat and very large, which meant you were not on top on one-another and that is great when you consider we went on the busiest weekend of the year. There was loads of space for games of football, kite flying and the girls' were always entertained and we could really relax as it felt very secure.
It was also a lovely touch to see Jules running the children around for rides on the quad - you rarely see this kind of thing these days which is such a shame.
On a Friday, they have a stall that makes freshly made stone-baked pizza that were to die for. They even made a gluten free one for me. Very impressed!
The only criticism I would have is that the toilets could do with an upgrade, particularly at the busier times. I think a toilet and shower block would really make that bit of difference, but other than that, I really hope it doesn't change too much.
If they could control the weather and prevent the leaky tent we took with us then this would have been perfect, but to be fair, that's half the fun of camping!
I did suggest to the owners that perhaps some logs for the kids to climb over and sit on would be lovely, not slides/swings really, but just a few organic things for kids to use their imagination with would be lovely.
All in all, if you want to get back to traditional, non- commercialised camping with a good atmosphere, friendly people and you can make your own entertainment with a good fire, then this really is the place for you! And it's only stones throw to Chedder caves, Wells and Weston-Super-Mare so plenty to do locally.
Loved, loved, LOVED this place ( as if you hadn't already gathered that!) and we Will be returning. :)

We have just returned from a lovely short break at this friendly campsite in Cheddar.
Before our visit Jules dropped us a friendly personal e-mail to say how much he was looking forward to meeting us, which was a nice touch.
We arrived to a very quiet campsite with only a handful of other pitches, which was great as the downside of camping for me is often the noise late into the night and the early starts being up with everyone else!
Owner welcomed us into the site, presented us with a comprehensive welcome booklet of the facilities and local attractions and gave us the option of where to pitch, advising us of who was going home the next day and where we would need to be if we wanted a fire. Basically the camp is spread over three fields, two of which were in use when we were there, the first field which is expected to be the quieter one and the back field which was the noisier one where fires are allowed.
Although the grass was short anyway, Owner asked that we didn't pitch in some areas as he needed to cut them, so I felt they had taken note of feedback from previous reviews. We picked a place at the back of the first field.
Owner came around to say hello while we were pitching and as my daughter was getting bored he offered to take her around the field on the quad bike delivering logs, which she loved.
We took the pleasant and easy to follow footpath into Cheddar on our second day.
Although a large party arrived on our second night they adhered to the management request that noise is kept to a minimum after 11pm, which we appreciated as they pitched the other side of the hedge to us.
The great service continued up to when we left as we broke dismantling the tent to have lunch. Owner noticing we were languishing over a cup of tea came to warn us that a storm was approaching. Sure enough his experience of the local weather proved right as within 10 minutes the heavens opened, and his advise saved us packing up a wet tent.
The only downsides of this campsite for me are: The lack of showers (which we knew about from the website before our visit).
I would be concerned when the campsite is busier that the two toilets would not be sufficient and with a young daughter queuing is not a good option!
We got two nights for the prce of one which made it good value, but at the advertised rate it would be a little expensive considering the lack showers, toilet roll, hot water etc.
But the main disappointment was that the website seemed to indicate that there were horses on site and as my daughter is pony mad this was a big lure. As the stables are entirely separate and there was no ponies on site in the three days we were there she was a little disappointed as it had not lived up to her expectations.
I would definitely return here as the positives outweigh the negatives, but I think the website should be addressed to better reflect what you get.
