Been here several times over the years and really can't fault the place. Put it like this, we pitched a tent over the weekend (14th to 16th July 2017) and came back today (19th July) for a two night stay in one of their shepherds huts. What a lovely way to enjoy this place.
We always bring the dogs and all of us have a truly lovely time.
The fire pits are a great addition to an amazing time and we certainly can't fault Jules and the team. So friendly and professional who want you to enjoy your stay and ask that you merely adhere to their relaxed rules.
So worth a visit. 5 out of 5 from us.

The campsite is exactly as the owners describe it on this website! They are very friendly, welcoming and helpful people. We stayed 4 nights in our own tent and had a really lovely relaxing time. We did a lot of things without once needing to use our car. We sat round our camp fire every evening and cooked on it too. You can rent a brazier and buy logs and kindling from the site, who deliver it to your tent each evening. In the site office they sell marshmallows to toast and also free range eggs. We walked to Cheddar village, where there is a really good butcher/ fishmonger/ delicatessan and a large pub. Five minutes further on is the famous and spectacular Cheddar Gorge, where we bought delicious cheese from the Cheddar Cheese factory and had a meal in one of the several pubs there. On another day we hired bikes from The Cheddar Cycle Store and cycled the 20 mile return trip to Yatton on the Strawberry Line which was mostly traffic free and do-able by a couple of over 60s on a hot day! Hint- when you get to Yatton, the Railway Inn is handy for food and a cold beer. Our final trip was a 40 minute walk from the back gate of the site to a rather quirky cider bar/pub (The Cider Barn)which also sells takeaway cider in a plastic container. Then on our trip home we made a detour to Wells which is less than 10 miles from the site and is a really lovely town. The campsite itself allows large groups of campers etc which could potentially cause a noise problem, but the owner is diligent about enforcing no noise after 11. 30pm so that was good. Dogs do not have to be kept on leads and this again could have been a problem, but while we were there we did not experience any. It's the kind of site that is a lot more flexible than most, so it relies on people to be reasonable and sensible and mostly they were. However if you go there please do clear up your own rubbish/recycling and your dog's waste because we were saddened to see the owners having to do that when some people left. We would also suggest taking your wellies, as we forgot ours and there were puddles on the field after a bad storm. We would definitely go back another time.

Great site, friendly owners, lovely surroundings. Also good for dog owners. Close to Cheddar village and the Gorge. My dog appreciated the fact that dogs can run free as long as they are under control and there are many nearby walks. Lovely hot showers and clean facilities.

We stopped here for 2 nights in our campervan & awning, 2 other medium size tents, a large gazebo & 3 dogs.
The site is in a lovely location. It has 2 very large fields. Some hardstandings. Some electric hook-ups. The Mendip hills provide an awesome view out in an open field. They offer gas refils on site, but there is no pub, playground, shop, clubhouse, etc.
The booking process was very easy and the pitching costs are very reasonable. If you are travelling as part of a group they recommend that you provide a group name and individuals book direct, quoting the group name. This works out well for the group organizer and the site owners can plan an area for you all if necessary.
There is a check-in time, but no check-out time (as long as you’re sensible about leaving!)
On arrival, and throughout our stay, the Staff were welcoming & very friendly. They are constantly busy keeping the site in good shape.
The pitches are level and not defined - which meant plenty of room to spread out. The ground is hard but not stoney. The site is basic and so are the facilities, but there’s plenty to use. They're kept nice & clean and the showers are great.
Plenty of bins for recycling too.
They offer for hire caskets (made of old washing machine drums) or fire tables (for bigger groups) for making your very own campfire - which is highly recommended - especially on cold nights (marshmallows & sticks are sold at reception). A bag of logs, kindling, paper and a firelighter also comes with it. Extra bags of logs can be requested. Any unused logs can be returned and a refund may be given too. We had a fire table & 2 bags of logs for just £17 for the whole weekend!
Dogs. The rules said “strict lead policy”. While we went prepared to tether the dogs, we were delighted to discover that this is not the case. You just have to be sensible! Especially if there are children playing or people walking by. If your dog is inclined to run over and be nosey this could be frightening to all! Remember to clean up after your dog too!
There's plenty of information available about the local area. Cheddar village is 10-15 min walk, and you pass a Sainsbury’s on the way. Cheddar Gorge was about 30 mins from the site and makes for a superb walk!
Cheddar Ales (closed on weekends) & Cheddar Market & Car Boot (which is huge!) is a 5–10 minute walk away.
If you want a great camping experience, with no frills but a fantastic view then this site is for you! We will be coming here again.

Friendly staff, Jules and team couldn't of helped more after the sudden death of our beloved dog. Site is excellent in respect it's not run regimentally but for fun with a few simple easy to carry out rules. Within walking distance of Cheddar gouge and driving distance to the sea (Weston-Supar-Mare), also Wells, Bath, Bristol nearby.
It is a lovely flat site, and is camping like it was yester year. Highly recommend *****

We stopped here for 4 nights over the bank holiday. The site is basic and so are that facilities but they're clean and the showers are amazing. This is camping back to its roots, gorgeous location Mendip hills make an awesome scenery out in an open field. They supply wood and a casket for making your very own campfire which is highly recommended in the cold nights.
The Staff were all excellent and very friendly and there's plenty of information around. The location is excellent and close to all amenities (10 - 15 min walk to the gorge).
If you want a great camping experience and great location this is for you, but there is no pub/playground/shop etc.

An excellent Site! The Campsite is Basic, No Clubhouse very back to basics chilled out sort of scene. The welcome we received was excellent and all the staff were really friendly. On the Saturday and Sunday there was a coffee stall propped up on the site which was a welcome surprise. The Toilet blocks were basic but were clean, The showers were Hot, Nothing much to complain about at all. I Felt at Petruth Paddocks if you did have an issue it would be dealt with straight away. Jules and all the Staff worked tirelessly throughout the day, And another plus point of this site was that you could sit out with an open fire, provided by the campsite for £2 a night, £5 for a bag of wood.
Location wise its a 10/15 Minute walk to the nearest Pub ( In Cheddar)and about 30 Mins from a Cider Barn, there's some great walks in the area and also some fantastic Cider!

Relaxed camping.
What a warm welcome you get too.
The toilet block was VERY basic, showers warm.
Log pit was a MUST. Dogs were allowed off lead - felt you were trusted to use common sense without the need to post hundreds of 'don't's' around.

Can't even begin to say what a lovely 4 days we had here. The campsite is run by a lovely family who live on site, they are welcoming and friendly, incredibly helpful but also super laid back. Perfect in our eyes.
The sites shower and toilet facilities were clean and fully functional. Considering the time of year the showers were so warm I was very impressed. We had only originally booked for 2 nights but ended up staying an extra two.
Great location for walking the Gorge and exploring the caves, we took a day trip into Weston Super Mare, which during December is fairly bleak.
