 When we arrived it was raining very heavy and we didn't see the real beauty of the place. The next morning we awoke to sunshine and we got out to explore and what a beautiful site it is.The owners could not of been more helpful and also so trusting. The fridge was stocked daily with bread milk bacon etc. and the money was put in the honesty box.
We have stayed on many sites but never one where so much thought and detail has gone into it. There really was nothing they had not thought of.
The scenery too was beautiful and the site so very peaceful. The toilets were clean and tidy as was the laundry room. We will definitely be returning.

This site is camping nirvana. I have been reluctant to write a review for two reasons.
Firstly I don't want loads of people to go and spoil it, which is selfish, but true.
I also don't think I can do this site the justice it deserves. But I will try!
The site is peacefully and privately located away from the main tourist routes but also easy to get too, with good access for towed rigs. When on the site everything is very well organised and set up with sympathy for the beautiful surroundings and convenience for the campers.
The supplies available on the site are locally produced and very tasty, I highly recommend the bacon.
Surrounding the site are fantastic hills and forests with a number of marked trails. I only managed to do 1 of the routes as I was only there for a weekend, you could spend a good few days exploring. I will bring mountain bikes next time.
In a nut shell this site is fantastic. A true getting back to basics camping experience but still with great sanitary facilities.
I also noticed how friendly the other campers were. People at this site seem to revel in the fact that they have found a little bit of camping heaven.

Have just returned from a weekend at Fforest Fields on a gorgeous weekend of weather. My daughter and family met up with us there and parked their caravan in a separate field but fairly close.
It is a totally wonderful place to be, whether in tent, fc or caravan. The level of trust and friendliness offered to all guests is equalled by few and surpassed by none. And as for the site - wow! I cannot recommend it too highly.

Just returned from 6 nights at Fforest Fields. What a beautiful site. The surroundings so picturesque and peaceful, birds and babbling brook, what more do you want? Weather was extremely kind to us as well.
The site is very well laid out and the owner, George very pleasant and helpful. Facilities include normal toilet and shower block, laundry facilities including dishwashing facilities all under cover.
Probably the only comment I would make would be that the shower block is a bit dated, the water was fine, hot and plenty of it, but the cubicles are a bit small. I suppose they could eventually do with updating, but did the job. Recycling bins provided also.
We went because we needed somewhere to run our dogs, and the site has two areas called 'dog scampers' where you can let dogs off. Brilliant. However if you are fit and healthy, miles of open space, fields owned by the camp site where the dogs where safe to run free. There are also 2 beautiful lakes and I believe these will be stocked with fish next year.
In the reception there is campers fridge, freezer and also bacon, eggs, orange juice, water which are stocked in an unlocked fridge with prices and an honesty box for the money. Nice to know that trust is alive and well at Fforest Fields.
Tariff was very reasonable for our van, awning, electric and 2 dogs. We had a great time and will definitely be back.
The locality is good too, only 4 miles from Builth Wells and about 6 from Llandrindod Wells, so shopping not a problem. All in all a first class site, and would highly recommend it.

Fantastic site. We visited again this year and were not disappointed. Although we had to cut our stay short to 5 nights because of flooding (Katie very kindly contacted on the day we were due to arrive to advise to put off our visit for a couple of nights).
As well as all the previous positive comments, new signs had been put up to show the various walks off the site and all the posts to Aberedw had been cemented in (a good challenge I am glad I was able to complete again - and a fantastic lunch at the seven stars).
I am missing the site, peace, views and walks already and look forward to another visit next year. The best site I have ever been too, especially for the dogs. Seven stars for you Katie and George!

What a lovely site! The staff are really friendly, nothing is too much trouble. There's a well-stocked fridge to buy your breakfast from, a fridge and freezer for campers' use and also good laundry facilities. No playground, but there's plenty of room for children to run around and explore. It's a very dog-friendly site with dedicated 'scamper' areas where they can exercise off-lead. The toilets and showers are adequate, clean and well-maintained.
The local co-op in Builth Wells is a bit tucked away, but stocks everything you might need. There's lots to do in the area, the campsite has lots of information of local attractions, we particularly enjoyed our visits to the impressive Elan Valley reservoirs and the beautiful Devils Bridge Waterfalls.
We'd definitely go back and the only thing that could have improved our stay was the weather. We took a bit of a battering weather wise during our stay, just check the way the trees bend for guidance with which direction to pitch your tent! There were only two types of weather whilst we were there: light rain and heavy rain, I guess that's why Wales is so green.

We have just returned from a wet week at Fforest Fields with friends and their 2 wet dogs! What a friendly, considerate, well-run site. There was plenty of useful information to hand in reception and lots of thought had gone into the layout and 'little extras' provided to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The area is beautiful and not over burdened with tourists and cars and we hope to return there again, hopefully with better weather. We particularly enjoyed the Elan Valley with a good visitor centre and cafe and lovely scenic walks.

Well what can I say that as not all ready been said.This was our second visit and it will not be our last. The site is excellent, well set out with all the amenities as stated in other reviews.The addition of the lakes has made the site even better,our two teenagers were in the lake on their dinghy everyday rain or shine.The owners George and Katie with the help of Will and Natalie could not be more helpful and friendly.
The weather was not the best but we made the most of it,went on a few of the farm walks and had the most relaxing holiday.
This is what camping is all about and with the new toilet and shower block on the horizon things can only get better.
Would recommend to anyone

Have just returned from this site, had a brilliant stay. Unfortunately the weather was not at its best, rain, thunderstorm, misty wet, all in all a typical summer!
We were made very welcome on arrival, and given a choice of pitches. We did not need EHU so chose a spot in the overspill field. We could use as much space as we needed and could pitch our tent in whatever direction we liked. We even had to wait whilst our chosen area was specially mown for us! The views on this site are fantastic, and being secluded there was only the occasional intrusion of road noise from a not very busy road a couple of fields away.
The reception as mentioned in several reviews had a well stocked fridge, replacement gas cartridges and a honesty box. This laid back approach reflected the whole ethos of the place. The shower and toilet block whilst tired, was kept in excellent condition and regularly cleaned, no mean feat with the weather. Despite only having 3 showers, and 4 toilet cubicles (mens) we only had to queue once, although the site was not full. The separate area for washing clothes and dishes was adequate.
We used the site as as a base to tour Wales from, but next time we come we are going to explore the walks around the site, details of which are provided on site. Like everywhere there were the few inconsiderate s being overly noisy at night and not wiping down the basins after use, but luckily they were a minority.
If you are looking for a site with a shop selling everything, a club house, restaurant and children's playground this is not the place for you. If you want a quiet, laid back stay where you and the children make their own entertainment and being considerate with other campers this is the place. George and Katie were absolutely fantastic and I hope they don't change a thing (apart from their plan for new amenity block). We will return!

We visited the site for a second time (first was June 2008).
As per usual everything on site was excellent.
We were on a different pitch this time with our 9 metre flagpole and 3 flags which I believe was a bit of a talking point. We discovered people were using it as a compass bearing.
We will definitely be returning again.

Just got back on Monday night after staying an extra 2 nights (7 in total) and had a great time.
It was the kids first time camping (10yrs and 2 7yr old girls) and they had plenty to do, as has been said there's no 'playground' but for our kids the whole site was a playground, kite flying on the back field, the smaller ponds were great if you didn't want them going too far (we could see them from our tent) and the large lake is just fantastic, swim, paddle or boat and a walk around it as the sun is setting is nice and there are benches around it if you just want to take in the atmosphere.
Facilities have been covered by previous comments and they are landscaping a new pond above the site for fishing, should be impressive. (although not as large as main).
Walks are abundant and they provide information in the reception for options, we walked to top of forest with kids and pretty easy without complaint from them !
There are some good drives from site and on one (To Aberedw through Cregina, narrow roads, use caution!) we found a picnic area next to a shallow river and rope swing.
The Co-op in Builth Wells (approx 5 miles) is now open until 10 o'clock in the week (8pm on Sat and 4pm on Sun) and has a free cash machine in car park, we only went there and a small Boots.
We were told (by another camper) that if you walk to pub at Hundred House there's a stream that if it rains too much you have walk around.
On the last night (with kids snug in bed) we hired a fire pit (wood from small forest) opened a cold beer and watched a beautiful clear sky full of stars, shooting stars, satellites and one that looked like a moving star (then faded out) what a perfect last night.
A big thanks to George, Kate and Will for a fantastic welcome and stay and nothing was too much trouble no matter how busy they were.

Wow if you need a site in or around this area or you want a breath of fresh air - stay here! It a fantastic site. Try the marked route by the son a feel good leg stretcher and a pint on route, excellent - although quite hard. The site facilities second to none. What can I say a breath of fresh air.

Just back from the site. The staff are very friendly and helpful, toilet/shower block is a little dated but very clean with plenty of hot water (George said that there should be a new block next year). We did some of the walks from the site which were very good. The site/area is quiet, there is no play equipment for children but there are many grass areas for games.
The local area is beautiful and we (husband + 9yr old daughter) would return to this site again and it will be one of our treasured sites. Overall - The pitches are of a good size, facilities adequate to good, owners and other people were very friendly. There were a few dogs on site but were not a problem as the owners seemed very responsible.
Looking forward to our next visit!

This is a real gem of a campsite. Friendly owners, immaculate grounds, clean showers and toilets - everything you could want for a great break. It’s every bit as good as the website suggests. We’ll definitely be going back.
The site has good green credentials with plenty of trees, wildlife areas and a small brook running through its centre (with plenty of bridges). They also have a recycling point for tins, glass and newspaper. Scenic walks start right from the site and there’s even a boating lake.

A fantastic site to relax and unwind probably the best we have visited. Visiting Fforest fields is like going back in time everything is paid for via the honesty box and the shop stocks most basics such as bread, welsh butter, eggs etc. The toilets and showers are clean and never seemed too busy. There are a few lovely walks from the site including one that takes you to the local pub. There is abundant wildlife including red kites flying over. Altogether a brilliant site!
