My sister has been going here for years and I decided it was time I went to see what she was raving about and now I know.
We had a great time with three different units, one folding caravan( my sister's) a trailer tent (mine) and a dome tent (friends), with 6 adults and 6 kids we had a whale of a time, and if we hadn't had to return for work we would have stayed longer.
The loo's are spotless day and night, if not a little old, 'come on' new toilet block!
George and Katie are the happiest site owners and always have time for a chat, keep up the great work.
We will be returning soon and look forward to some more relaxing time.
My friend had never been camping and her family loved it, we will be back.
So glad I read the glowing reports about this site, it certainly lived up to reputation. As stated the bacon from the site fridge was delicious and the owners were delightfully laid back.
We had a wonderful curry in Builth Wells, their take away menu is in the telephone hut on site.
Camping Heaven. What more can I say. We booked for 2 weeks due to the good reviews but stayed for 3! Katie & George must be the most hard working & friendly site owners I have ever met. Shower and toilet block always clean (whatever time you go in night or day), washing machines and tumble dryers a god send when you get soaked in the rain and covered in mud. All the children got on and played either in the big field or in the stream and pond. By 9pm they were all tucked up in bed totally exausted. Fingers crossed for Katie and George that their planning app goes through this month so that they can start on the new shower block for next season. GREAT SITE, GREAT OWNERS AND GREAT CAMPERS! Can't wait to return.
What a first class site! although busy it was very quiet at night. Good walking country and many things to do from the site. Good food in the area particularly the Severn Stars which is about 5 miles away which was excellent bar food at reasonable prices. Unfortunately the nearest pub about a mile away the Hundred House was poor with wrong orders and cold food when it arrived! no apology or refund.
This was our 4th visit to this wonderful site Katie, George and family work very hard and are wonderful peeps. We always choose to stay on the overflow field because of the amazing views. Fantastic walks up to the top of the hills if you go up above the tree line it gets even better on lazy days we sit on the bench half way up! We will be back again next year for our fix!
This was our second visit to Fforest Fields, and I really cannot speak highly enough about this site.
This is EXACTLY what a campsite should be like. Set in beautiful countryside, miles from anywhere, the only noise to break the silence is that of the abundance of wildlife.
Everything about this site is good, the owners George and Katie are warm and friendly and always on hand to help. There is a small reception with fridges and freezers that are used to have local produce for campers to purchase (including bacon, eggs, milk orange juice etc.) and also for use by campers to keep their own chilled goods cool.
The site has a natural stream running though and shallow ponds ideal for the children to splash around in on hot summer days.
The shower blocks are kept very clean, and there are plenty of facilities, not once did I have to queue. The shower cubicles are a little on the small side, but I understand at the end of this season, a completely new shower/toilet block is being built. This just highlights the effort that George and Katie put into this site.
Locally, Builth Wells is about 5 miles away with reasonable shopping and a couple of pub/restaurants, and closer to hand is a small pub in the village of Hundred House, about 1 mile away from the site.
We found the site ideally located for day trips up through to Snowdonia and down into the stunning Brecon Beacons.
If you want a real retreat, get yourself off to Fforest Fields, I know that we will continue to return to this site for many years.
If you want peace and quiet, no rowdy hooligans or loud music playing then this is the place for you. Don't get me wrong, it is not a boring place for old fogeys but if you like the simple things in life then its perfect. Birds singing, sheep baaing ( I never realised they could make such different noises!) the smell of bacon, BBQ's and fresh mown grass. There is no park but that did not stop the dozens of kids on site from having a great time, flying kites, pond dipping, chatting and chilling or having games of rounders, football or cricket on the MASSIVE field. Who needs amusement arcades to waste your cash and addle your brain or discos to damage your eardrums and make you look like a nerd with your dancing!
Dont get confused when you first turn up, reception really is that little shed you see. If nobody is around there are full instructions left for you telling you to pitch up and pay whenever!
There is a freezer for you to freeze your own iceblocks, which it does very effectively in a few hours. There is also a very large fridge where you can store anything you want. There is also another freezer which is kept full or bread and rolls and a fridge for milk, butter, eggs, yogurt, bacon and orange juice. Just help yourself and put the money in the honesty tin. The same applies for the washing machines and tumble dryers, no fussing around for tokens.do your washing/drying and put your money in the pot (£2 for a wash load, 50p for 20 mins drying)
The toilets are a little dated but Katie and George clean them regularly throughout the day (even at 10.30 at night!) and there was never a shortage of toilet paper or soap, although the hand dryers were pretty naff and nobody seemed to bother using them. The showers again were a bit dated but again clean. They were a little on the cramped side, put had plenty of hooks for your towels and clothes.
Shopping.If you like village shopping having to go to a bakers then a butchers then a grocers etc and paying 'village' prices then Builth wells is the place for you. If like me you are used to cheap supermarket shopping, BOGOFS etc then the closest supermarket is somerfield at LLandridnod Wells about 7 miles away through some beautiful scenery over the hill.
Rhayader is a good place to visit for an afternoon with an award winning chip shop (Yum Yum) eat in or take away. And you have to go to the Elan Valley, it is spectacular. Staying closer to the site there are many walks that can be done around the farm and the scenery is fantastic.
Forrest fields is a lovely place. The scenery is fantastic, we enjoyed some great walks on the surrounding hills. The campsite is away from the roads so it is very peaceful and no problems sleeping at night.
The owners are very friendly and helpful, couldn't do more to help us. George is very protective about the grass - and rightly so, it's in great condition and well kept - pitches are left to rest if there are any yellowing patches of grass.
We were there on a busy weekend in August, must have been more than 60 pitches taken. The only problem was that the toilet/shower facilities are a little old, the showers are a little cramped and the gents urinals were not the cleanest at all times. I do believe a new toilet block is in the planning, so i'm sure things will be much improved.
I got addicted to the lovely orange juice for sale in the reception - and the famous bacon was great too.
This campsite is fantastic! We stayed for four nights at the beginning of this month and didn't want to come home! George and his wife couldn't have been more helpful - finding us some spare tent pegs and advising us where to eat. The campers' fridge and freezer are a really good idea. The toiled block seemed a little dated but was kept very clean and the showers were free. It was very useful to be able to buy provisions such as bread, butter, juice and bacon from the reception which is a small hut in the centre of the site, and kept open all night. One end of the site is kept for adults only, although all the children around must have been subdued by the natural tranquility of the site! There is a small stream that children were fishing in, although it was rather dry when we were there! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site to anyone.
Visited for the first time on the back of the reviews on this site - you were all so right! It is an excellent site. Our four children all had a great time as there is so much space. The owners tend to keep young families separate from others which works well for everyone. There is a campers fridge and a freezer f.o.c. There is also a fridge with bacon,milk,butter,orange juice. Eggs, gas, matches etc and all the money goes in the honesty box. The views are great, so quiet and peaceful, with great walks too.
Had a pitch for one night here. We didn't actually end up staying in the tent however as bad weather came in and as we had been chasing it around all week, I put my foot down and we rented somewhere. The site is in a lovely spot and pitches are a reasonable size (from their website, I thought it would have been bigger). They operate a very refreshing honesty box system for basic food items and you sign yourself in and pay whenever there is someone in the hut (I had to put our money in the honesty box as there was nobody about).
Facilities were ok. Toilets and showers looked a bit tired but seemed like they were looked after well enough. There was a cabin with washing machines and tumble dryers and dish washing facilities. Again, this was operated on the honesty system at (from memory) £2 a wash and 50p per 20 mins drying time. I would have found this useful had we stayed on longer!
Campers fridge and freezer in the reception hut, lots of recycling facilities and information about local flora & fauna. I believe you can hire a TV aerial (popular with caravanners), and there was a pay phone on site. A family bathroom or just a sitz bath for little ones would have been extremely useful.
This site really is as good as everyone says it is! Lots of space, very clean toilets and showers, beautiful surroundings, peace & quiet and very friendly owners. There are lots of fantastic walks with great views and no traffic (or people) to be seen for miles,and if you get too lonely the town of Builth Wells is only a ten minute drive away.
Do not go if you expect a noisy clubhouse, childrens' playpark or shop close to your pitch! There is absolutely nothing else onsite apart from the famous well stocked fridge with its 'Honesty Box' in reception. For us this was camping heaven and it is a pity that there are not more sites like this with owners who really do care that their visitors enjoy their stay and are not just interested in taking their money. Full marks!
Couldn't actually add a new comment to the other positive ones below. George, Katie and William take pride in caring for their guests on their spot of heaven in Mid-Wales. As said, the facilities where dated but suffuced more than enough as it was cleaned and checked upon twice every day. Showers were hot and comfortable and I had enough of space turning and all with my bigger body.
FForest Fields deserve a good review because of their principle of camping as the holidaymaker wants to. BBQ? Get underlaying stones at the reception and go ahead. TV? With their antenna's you can get a good reception of three, maybe four channels. It made it possible for me to watch the footy game when Holland played. Had a crystal clear picture!
There are some plans to erect a central mast with different antenna's so the visitors could just plug in if they wish so. It will be an asset but it will weigh in nothing in their strive for a competetive Farm Campsite. They just deserve the Bellamy recognition and I'm -for one- will plea for this on the Bellamy website.
Nature is in abundance and George & Katie take pride in their islands of wildlife on their site. If silent you can spot the rabbits, hares, voles, owls, fighter-plane-swallows and some beautifull other birds at very close range. Some even sat on our table when we had our tea. Spectacular! We stayed over the weekend but never heard any alcohol induced noises at all. Still, there is a good pub just a mile up the road, but maybe it's a sobering mile on the way back?
Whether tenting, caravanning, motorhoming or just visiting for the day, it is an experience better kept secret to the masses, but that would be unfair to George and Katie. I only hope their unshakeable trust in Human Good will not be sturred by miss-use of their trust and the honestybox. Builth Wells is nice for an afternoons stroll. Tea or lunch at the Drovers is recommended. Their Mocha Gateaux and Lemon Maranque brought tears to our eyes for sheer enjoyment. It is all homemade and you can taste that! If you're into books their is an nice bookstore in Highstreet that has a very nice collection of old books upstairs to roam in.
Coop for the groceries coles at hand and fly- or coarse fishing can be done in the river Wye, even from a wheelchair! Day tickets can be obtained from JD Gunn in Builth Wells. Parking very convenient and abundant.
Brecon equally as nice with bigger stores. Good for a days visit. The forgotten items like eggs, butter and mathces can be bought again in the reception / Shop at FForest Fileds.
After so many good reviews, we had to give it a go.
Booked by email the week before, arrived and self checked in, leaving the money in the box. Pitched where we wanted, the kids loved playing in the ponds.
Toilets & showers were good, the site was very quiet, especially at night. Good walks up the hill, ending at the pub in town.

The reviews of this site do not do it Justice it is beautiful. Great greetings from George and Katie on arrival and a pitch (67) near the amenities and the ponds. Toilets showers fine very hot water. The washing machine a godsend with all the muddy clothes from our 6 year old who loved the water. Fridges and freezers for personal use a brill idea and couldn't believe the honesty box idea for buying your eggs milk bread and the best bacon anywhere a packet in the fridge at home now! Walks all around the site great for picnics and evening strolls sitting on the bench at 8.00pm in brilliant sunshine looking at the scenery (not a road in site). The peaceful relaxed atmosphere make this a dream of a site we will be back as soon as hubby will allow. Made some great new friends as all the children played well all over the site with what nature provides, Thanks for a great week.
