Excellent location under Cadair Idris and close to pretty Tal-y-Llyn. Very helpful owner.
It attracts a good crowd of fellow campers who won't be partying into the wee hours as they're here to appreciate the scenery and walks.
The campsite is slightly basic. But toilets and shower suffice.
The nearest grocery is a fair distance at Dolgellau.

A fantastic stay over the last 2 weeks in August with the OH and 2 dogs. Met some great people, and fell in love with the area.
Hill walking, steam trains, CAT, castles. More hill walking, low level walking, toll bridges, medieval packhorse paths and lots of ice cream.
The 1st q we were asked by other campers was "here for the mountains or the planes?". Didn't know what they meant until the 1st jets flew over as Alfie provided his humorous daily alarm clock with an EEEEEaWWwww around 8.
The site became busy over the BH weekend, we were glad not to be near the people who brought a generator playing music into the early morning. But the site owner tries to put known noisy groups away from everyone else. Toilet block was constantly cleaned and restocked. As others say its 20p for 3 mins in the shower- nice and hot, and restricted time to number of 20p coins people have makes sure there isn't a long queue.
Huw was a fantastic host, never in your face, but stopping for a few words here and there and suggesting walks and local places of interest. He often had kids running up to him to update on their day, and came across as one of those people who is interested in everyone. We were reassured by his diligence ensuring any guest who went up a mountain returned when expected.
Shopping locally? Try the EuroSpar in Dolgellau for food and drink. There's also a great wee outdoor shop in Dolgellau town centre if you have forgotten anything esential. Butcher nearest the bridge in Balla is also worth the trip.
Definitely going back next year!

We went with family. 13 members in total and two dogs. Family stayed in caravans/trailer tent. Site is lovely. Very spacious.
Facilities are basic but clean and the owner Hugh is always attending to them.
Hugh is the loveliest farmer we all have ever met. Very friendly and helpful and always around for chat. Views are amazing and right in the loop.
We were very lucky to see some aircrafts go through. Location is in the middle of two villages so a short drive to shops.
There is a few midges around at night but a camp fire in one of Hugh's pits sorted that.
Alfie the donkey is very popular with the kids.
Will definitely be going back next year.

A really nice, fairly basic site in absolutely stunning surroundings.
The site is made up of a couple of camping fields and a tree lined area for caravans and motorhomes with electric hook up. The toilet block is pretty basic with a couple of toilets and one shower in each of the men and women's block. The showers are 20p for about 3 minutes so take 2 with you.
There are a few walks from the site along the valley and further up in to the mountains including Cadair Idris. There is a nature reserve within walking distance that has a nice little cafe serving lunches and snacks. Also from there you can walk up the waterfalls and on in to the hills if you're feeling energetic.
A great site to escape it all including no phone signal however you can stroll up to the road and pick up 4G if you really need to. Also being on the Mach Loop you will see all kinds of planes flying low down the valley which is very impressive.
All in all a basic but nice and tidy site in an amazing location. We would go back!

At the foot of Cader Idris. We used this as an overnight base to walk the beautiful surroundings.
The farmer was great, accommodating & friendly. We stayed on the caravan section, shower block clean & tidy think was 20p for showers.
Babbling stream on one side be aware you will need the toilet in the night after a certain age.

Very scenic sight in a lovely valley. The owner is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Always around and sometimes stops for a chat.
Facilities are basic but are constantly being cleaned and restocked.
Several pubs/restaurants within a few minutes drive. Plenty of walking opportunities and also get treated to the odd low flying military aircraft( not on weekends or nighttime).
The site is dog friendly also.

My son wanted to watch some planes fly through the valley, and what a spot to do it. I wanted to get some walking in so we managed to do both.
Great site, good basic facilities, Great friendly & helpful owner.
Lovely to wake up to the sound of the stream and wildlife.
I found this a perfect location to explore the area, and not to far away for Snowdon & the tourist trails stuff as well has a visit to the beach.
Be prepared for limited phone signal, no TV unless you have a satellite. Local pub was not serving food. So ensure you are well stocked up, then just sit back and admire the views.
I would recommend taking a walk up Cader Idris, (Cad East is plane spotting ground and fairly easy. Ish) even if you don't get to the top, my son who was 15 was totally blown away with the views.

Stayed at this campsite for 3 nights in July and returned for a further 3 nights in September. Had a really enjoyable time. Really liked the farmer - in my opinion you couldn't wish to meet a nicer person.
Great location for climbing Cader Idris mountain via the Minfford path. Happy with the facilities - basic but fine for £5 a night. The campsite is in a very beautiful location.
I did not find noise a problem staying at the campsite. I always bring ear plugs when I go camping. I look forward to coming back here again in 2019. Hopefully the weather will be kinder next time!

This is a great little site with easy access and an amazing view. The owner is very welcoming and easy going, you just find a place to pitch and we'll come and find you.
There is only a single shower (1 male, 1 female) but we never had to wait. The 20p system ensures no one hogs it for ages and there is always hot water.
If you like hiking, cycling, motorbiking, photography, watching fast jets fly low level or just being in an amazingly beautiful part of the world you'll love it here.
And everyone loves Alfie the donkey who seems to remember all the young returning campers and loves the attention.

A three night stay at this charming site. Parked adjacent to the stream. The owner Hugh is a perfect host and very friendly. The site was not very busy during our stay.
The toilet facilities were kept clean and monitored during the day. Only one shower in the ladies and gents toilets with 20p slot machine. A perfect place for hill walking and adjacent to Cader Idris. Terrific views of the area.
If you like military aircraft the site is on the 'loop' which is used by the RAF and US air forces for low flying exercise. From the near by hill sides you can actually look down on aircraft as they go through the valley!
The owner allows camp fires which add a romance to the site.
We will definitely be returning.
