We have just come back from a lovely weekend at Brick Kiln Farm. The campsite is in a great location, very picturesque, and the facilities are excellent.
The shower and loo block were clean with lots of added extras.
The owners were very friendly and it was really nice to be able to buy wood and have a campfire.
We would thoroughly recommend this campsite and are looking forward to our next visit already!
Our group of 8 tents and 1 caravan stayed here for a fabulous weekend of camping. This is a basic campsite of two flat fields with a central (communal) toilet and shower block, in addition there is a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room/ games room. Outside the children (&dads) had lots of space to play ball games plus there was a trampoline which the kids spent hours playing on. Campfires are permitted which is lovely. A great basic campsite well located for local attractions. Owners friendly and helpful. Our group hope to return next year to repeat the fun!
This is truly a charming little site with lots of lovely extra features:
PLUSES: (plenty of them!)
+ Very Charming, lots of lovely little extra things, like toiletries, a communal seating area with games, and a gas cooker!
+ Nice location, very peaceful.
+ Campfires allowed (£6 for a bag of wood, £16 for a barrow, £3 for a bag of kindling) - we made a bag last for two nights.
+ A cute honesty shop
+ A refreshingly trusting arrangement - pay at the end by placing the money in an envelope and post in a box.
+ Nice little play area for kids, including a massive trampoline.
MINUSES:
- Although very charming, with many a feminine touch, it could have been cleaner.
- The showers were a bit tricky to use and prone to run out of water (at least that's what the sign on the door indicated. ) Anyway it turns out, I didn't really need to wander around at midnight looking for the back-up shower (apparently somewhere round the back of the house) with a torch and nothing but a towel to protect my dignity; all I needed to do is turn one of the taps on to get the shower going!
Overall a lovely site - would definitely recommend it and come back.
We have stayed at Brick Kiln Farm numerous times. Tina is a lovely person who can't do enough for the people who stay there.
Lovely level site with some playground equipment. My daughter usually has a fantastic time here and has always made lots of friends. Campfires allowed. The facilities are great - a barn to cook in and sit in with games, plates, pots and pans, great washing up station.
I have never had a problem with the showers/toilets which are cleaned regularly.
As well as camping a few times we have also rented the Gypsy Caravan for a weekend which was very sweet.
This site is only about an hour from home and near friends, we have already booked to stay there a couple of times in August 2014 to visit friends and go to a festival. We only usually stay for a weekend/three nights max but there is plenty to do nearby.
Great place, very convenient for us, we wouldn't keep returning otherwise.
We visited this lovely, quiet little site in the Autumn and were lucky enough to have good weather and the opportunity to sit around the campsite toasting marshmallows. This was our first campsite visit and we were won over.
The owner, Tina was friendly and helpful and the facilities well thought out and 'human scale'.
Children loved the old gypsy caravan complete with little horse wandering around.
We had a flying visit to this campsite, just one night, but had a great 24 hours.
The campsite is small and simple but beautiful for these qualities. It was probably the quietest campsite I've ever arrived at and I did worry that my two energetic boys would be a nuisance to all the other peaceful campers, but it wasn't like that at all, it was just chilled. The kids ran off and played on the trampoline and swings, and there was space in the centre of the field for ball games too.
The shower/toilet block was great, with some nice touches and no queues that I noticed, likewise the washing up area was in good order and the fridge/freezer was useful. The small barn/sheltered area looked fab too though we didn't use it.
The owner was super friendly and very helpful, and having the honesty shop was handy. We love campfires and they are allowed here too.
The area has loads to offer - we visited Thorpeness (had a swim there off the pebble beach) and Aldeburgh but felt like we must plan a return visit soon.
Oh, and while we were there we got to see one of Magical Camping's bell tents, aimed at 'glampers' - it did look very special.
We found this site really easy to find as it's just off the A12 really but not close enough for traffic noise to bother you.
When we arrived, there was a note in the kitchen asking new arrivals to ring a mobile number. Spoke to the owner, who was lovely and she said we could pitch wherever we liked in the first field. We pitched down the far end, not to be antisocial but because we didn't want our small children to disturb anyone. (Plus it was our first attempt at pitching our new tent and we didn't want anyone watching too closely!)
It's quite a relaxed site, with a play area and a small pony. There's a kitchen area and lounge bit for campers to relax in, it also has sockets to charge phones etc and it became a nice place to hide out of the rain in.
The toilets were ok, they had some nice decorative touches and were generally clean enough. I don't quite get the 'open drain' thing so you can sit on the toilet and watch the soapy water from the shower next door go past under a grill beneath your feet!
One morning the water went off completely for no apparent reason. We didn't find this out until we had got in the shower though and couldn't work out how to switch it on! Then we heard other people coming out of the showers all soapy as the water just disappeared! I take it, that was a rare occurrence!
Having a play area is nice but I think a risk assessment should be carried out. The kids loved the trampoline but it really needs a net. Throughout the day the play area was full of kids left to their own devices with no supervision, they were still doing stunts on the trampoline at 9. 30pm at night! There was a sandpit with no sand in it, a play house with a broken window and a load of other toys inside. I don't suppose you can blame the site for broken toys though, it just depends on how people treat them. The wooden swing could do with being set away a bit or fenced as well, as our 2 year old got hit by it when the older kids were on it. He bounces quite well but it could have been nasty. I think I would rather pay a bit more per night and have a net on the trampoline and a fence round the swing. The kids loved the pony and were sad to leave!
The site isn't very far from the coast and Wickham Market itself, is really quite quaint. There are menu's in the kitchen area for take-aways in that will deliver to the site. Our last night there, the weather was truly awful, it lashed it with rain all afternoon and evening so none of us felt like cooking. The curry we ordered was amazing.
Fantastic site!. Just returned from a weekends camp with a party of 14. The site was easy to find not far off the main a12 route but far enough away to feel in the countryside.
The site was laid out across 2 small fields with the ability to pitch anyway within your allotted area. The toilet block facilities were lovely with some nice homely touches.
There is a converted barn with lots of facilities free to use, from washing up bowls / brushes to a camping stove and saucepans etc. Fridge / freezers, tea & coffee kettles. It also housed a very reasonable honesty shop selling local produce and essential camp site things (glow sticks / bbq etc).
Kids and catered for with a big trampoline, play house, swings and play equipment.
This is a lovely site and comes highly recommended
The site as a whole is great. They say the little things count and in this case very true. Soap and shower gel provided in the shower block, even some good bottom of bottles left for use (I presume).
The open fire policy on site can be worrying not everybody can be responsible, while I was there I heard a dad say to his son 'fire first tent later, otherwise we could freeze to death', good joke but that is how he performed and he arrived at 8:30 pm so a roaring fire and a load of clanging around at 10: 00pm only a few feet away was disconcerting.
Also the shower block looks and feels great but as time progresses there is a lack of regular cleaning, again not owners total fault just untidy guests. The other things like children's playground, fridge and freezer, breakfast, place to sit inside, magazines, games and pet pony make for a pleasant stay.
Ideal for young children, you can see the whole site from your tent. There is a small play area with trampoline, wendy house etc.
They have a pony called Smudge which the children love.
They encourage camp fires and sell wood.
The site has all sorts of extras you don't expect. There's a kitchen area with kettle etc which saves your gas when you fancy a tea. The washrooms have nice soaps, tissues, etc that are a step above the normal basic facilities.
My only criticism is the owner was very scarce during our stay (they do provide mobile numbers) and the wshrooms could have been cleaned more often.
Highly recommended.
