This was our second visit to this site, that should say it all really, if a site's not up to scratch we just don't go back. This one is excellent, lovely clean shower / toilet block, good pan washing facilities and a nice quiet site.
The first time we stayed here (only our second ever trip out with a caravan) we felt that relaxed about the place we fell asleep with the curtains open! If I had to be picky (and this is a really tiny point) the idea of having a single loo roll can catch you out if you wander in for a 'sit down' and forget to grab some on the way in. But as an ex-tent camper I usually have a few sheets in my pocket anyway.
I would 100% recommend this site if you are looking for peace and quiet in a great location with just the right amount of privacy. The site is close to Rhyl and the rest of the North Wales coast and just a short hop from the A55
Just came back from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park and this is the fourth year we have stayed at this site. The park is very clean with short grass, very clean shower and toilet block and the showers were very hot!
We had 9 Tents in our party and very young children and the space they had to play games was great.
The owners are very nice and helpful all you have to do is ask.
During our stay we visited Conway Castle and Towyn both great places to go, only downside was the cocka doodle doo at 06. 30 am but hey that's the country side!
If you travel about 7 miles to Holywell or on your way home there is a large supermarket (Tesco) if you want a large shop.
If you want a Quiet site as a base with good facilities and access to the A55 well I can recommend this site. Oh nearly forgot the price is very reasonable, And we will be going back next year!
We have just returned from our first camping trip as a Family, amazing how it all comes back after all these years!
We stopped for 2 nights, with a 5 year old in a tent with EHU. The idea of the trip was to try out the tent and equipment. Whilst this was OUT first trip, we have lately been caravanning with the brother-in-law, so I’m using those sites as a reference.
Upon arrival, we had to go hunting for the manager which was at first a little disconcerting; however it reflects the peaceful, calm and laid back style of the site.
The camping field was being shared by a number of touring caravans; however we had no problem finding a suitable place to pitch.
There are plenty of EHU points around the edge of the field, or you can pop your tent where you like in the middle. We found a spot by the big tree on the way in, however if we go again (which I’m sure we will) we would go for the bottom of the field as the tree removes all evening sunshine.
The field seems well maintained, and was dry despite us being told they had experienced very heavy rain the night before (some regulars told us it had been the heaviest they had ever experienced). From the field, there are some pretty views over the countryside, and farmland.
The toilet / shower block is a short, lit walk from the camping field and the facilities are spotlessly clean. The push button showers are hot (very hot) – so watch little ones (it makes you jump, but is quite pleasant).
The only strange thing I found was that you have to take loo roll from the dispenser near the door before going to the loo (but maybe that’s normal)?
Washing and laundry facilities are clean, although at busy times there was a queue (just pick your moments though).
On our first night, a group of campers decided to have a party which got a little loud and late. Sometime (after 12) it was dealt with swiftly, and efficiently by (I was told) the park owners wife. I did hear a lady shout, and the music stopped. Immediately.
Another minor negative is that some selfish neighbours seem to allow the dogs to bark incessantly. This happened through our first day, until 9. 00 at night, however it seemed much less prominent on the second day, so this also may have been dealt with.
Not to overshadow the experience though, we found it a very pleasant site, handy for walkers or day trips to nearby Rhyll, Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay etc. , or a little further a-field.
Well maintained site in a lovely area. We only stayed 1 night, site seemed fairly busy. Toilet block is fab, very clean, entrance by key only, hot showers, really clean and nice. Toilet roll outside toilets which we found a bit of a nuisance. There is a well equipped laundry area too. Rubbish is well disposed of, a bin room, clean and ideal to keep wasps etc at bay. I wouldn't say it was a family orientated site, there really is nothing for children to do, it seems more suited to adults.
No bikes are allowed on site and when our children played outside I felt I was always trying to keep them quiet. The caravans are sited very close together and you haven't much space anyway.
Unfortunately we were pitched near people that laughed loudly etc until early hours of the morning so sleep was quite disturbed. Also I feel the prices were high, we wanted to stay 3 hours after check out and were charged £11. 50.
Overall nice site, would recommend for the older persons, lovely views and very well kept.
A very nice clean site. We went with 3 other families in tents, the original plan was for 6 families and the site had no issues with this which is very refreshing as many sites won't allow more than 3 families for some reason. Anyway we were on the rally field which has hookup all around the outside which we shared with about 20 tourers and half a dozen other tents. There was plenty of space and loads of room for the kids to play. There is not much to do around the site, the castle and waterfall are a good 15 + minute drive away but the site is well protected although the dogs on the local farm do get a bit vocal around 4. 30 in the morning so if you have a dog with you, be prepared to have to wake up for a bit. Loads of rules around the site makes it seem a bit strict but we had no issues and had a great time. No fires pits bit of a shame but the site is well looked after. Showers and loos are as you would expect from a good site.
Good Campsite with lots of standing pitches with water & waste included.Word of warning, never book a grass pitch. You will be put on a patch of grass near the entrance about 2-3 meters in front of the seasonal pitches, I was put on grass for one night as they over booked & never had a pitch that I reserved a week earlier, so you feel really uneasy pitching in front of someone elses view, bit disappointing to level & set up twice on a 4 day break.
Next day they moved me to a serviced pitch in a small cul de sac at the bottom of the park, very tight & not a lot of room, luckily the owner ran my van into position as it was a tight squeeze, all in it was a nice pitch, caravan was on hard stand but entrance into the van was grass.
Washblock immaculate, toilet roll is located on the outside of the cubicles which I think is a good idea but the wife kept forgetting which made me chuckle.
Big field for camping tents, well maintained. Camp site is only 2 mins from the A55 so idealy located for anywere in Wales.
Stayed for a weekend on this site and really enjoyed it. Very quiet I thought, just what I intended. Toilets very clean and showers too. Only 4 or 5 tents on site so loads of room. Would go again definitely. Just one thing if going to Rhyl and Prestatyn go carefully on the country roads as they are very narrow, best to stick to A55 even though a bit longer. But the site was easily found and the staff very helpful. Like I say I would use again next time I need a quiet weekend away. The nearest town is Dyserth where the waterfall is I think.
We visited this site Twice in May ( both BH weekends) As others have advised it is a very quiet site which was what we were looking for. On our first visit we went to try out camping with our 2 children both under 3.
The site is nice and clean with a new and clean toilet block. I has washing up sinks under cver by the toilets. Toilets are accessed using a key which has a £5 deposit. With the site being on a hill it can become windy as we found on our first visit.
As you can see I have no issues with going back to this site and the cost is cheap too.
We stayed here for one night over the bank holiday weekend, the camp site was very busy but the toilet and shower block were spotless. No camp fires are allowed, and although it was very busy it wasn't loud everybody had respect for each other.
The owner was very helpful and polite.
There isn't anything on the site except the toilet and shower block so if you are visiting with children please take note of this.
There is a waterfall nearby which is beautiful. This is well worth a visit and only a 20 min walk away from the camp.
Booked for the Bank Holiday and arrived early evening on the Saturday as agreed. The tent field was busy and due to some very inconsiderate pitching by others and the need for people to park their cars next to their tent and have a driveway in and out, we had no space to pitch.
The owner came on to the field and offered a variety of spaces which were not ideal for our tent. He then took us to other pitches on site in a very determined effort to find us a good pitching place. He eventually asked if we would mind pitching near to his seasonal caravans, which was a great spot.
The toilets 30 yds away the grass as level as the main field (which was like a snooker table) and had lovely mown grass again like the main field. He even sorted out some electric for us, lending us an extension lead to our own lead, although we had only asked for electric on the Thursday before arrival!
All in all a very cosy and clean site perfect for a North Wales tour and very polite and helpful owners only added to the stay.
