Wondeful experience - we all really enjoyed it, and will definitely be back. We were two familieis, each with children. The children loved the pedal-karts, we loved the peace and quiet.
The showers were hot, and well worth 20p, the toilet block was always clean and tidy.
We bought farm-eggs on-site, and there's a well-stocked shop and pubs about 5 minutes drive (although am sure you can walk to them too, but we were only therefore 2 nights so didn't feel the need to go far).
This is a lovely, clean campsite and we felt lucky to get a last minute booking on the bank holiday weekend. The pitches seem level and a decent size. My young boys loved the sand pit and play house and for older children there is a small games shed.
There is plenty of room for kids to play in the grass in the middle of the site. The showers are 20p for 3 mins which is plenty of time for a nice hot shower whilst enjoying the radio which is played in the shower blocks which appealed to me.
The site is about 10-20 mins from the small town of Bracklesham and village of Birdham if you need supplies. As expected on bank hols we did experience a bit of rain so took ourselves to the nearby Earley Butterfly Farm (£20 family of 4) which was ideal for passing a few hours.
When the weather is kinder a trip to Witterings beach is recommended. Overall we found this site very relaxing and ideal for those who like more basic, rural sites.
This is a very quiet and fairly basic site set on a farm. The tents/caravans are pitched along both sides of a long field which is sheltered by a very high hedge - it was very windy when we were there so this hedge was a godsend! The toilet block is clean but basic - 20p for the showers and there were only two as mentioned in other reviews. The washing up area was basic although there was very hot water at a cost of 10p. The owners are very relaxed and the pitches a very reasonable cost with no added 'greedy' prices! They were quite happy for us to leave later in the day rather than the usual 10am meaning we could have a relaxed breakfast before packing up.
There could be more for children - the go carts are great but as they cost £2 there were only so many goes my four children could have. A playground would be great.
Overall a quiet, basic good value for money site but make sure you have plenty of 20 and 10 pieces! There is no shop either so you will have to stock up but the site does freeze your freezer blocks at no charge.
We had the most relaxing holiday ever here, such a peaceful site. We have a caravan and so had electric hook-up which never gave a problem at all. The toilets and showers, although quite old are kept very clean and we never had to wait at all, I found the hair-drier in the ladies to be a god-send. The whole site was kept 'VERY' clean, the beach and shops are within walking distance yet once on the site you have the feeling of being miles from anywhere. I really cannot praise this site enough, The on site caretaker is very helpful and after just a 2 week holiday you feel he has become a friend. Definitely will be back next year
I took my daughter and 3 friends to this site for a 2 night stay as a 9th birthday party.
We had booked in advance online but on arrival found that we had not been listed. The owner was lovely and said he holds a pitch back for times when this happens, so all was well.
The site is flat with short grass with camping set out in lines either side of the field. The centre of the field is the main car track and play area and is a huge space. The toilet block is kept very clean and well stocked. There are only 2 showers in the womens area and take 20p for a 5 minute very warm shower. There was never a queue.
Washing up area is to the side of the shower block and has 2 sinks. The hot water costs 10p, again there was never a queue. On either side of the site are fields containing horses which the girls loved.
The go-carts on hire were excellent and the sand pit(whilst needing a top-up)entertained the girls for hours.
We ventured to the beach at Bracklesham bay - definitely a car drive away- and walked up to East wittering along the pebble beach. Swimming would be quite dangerous I think as the sea came in very quickly with surfers waves that were a bit scary.
Site is a little isolated with nearest shop in Bracklesham- reached by car as the road has no pavements is narrow with fast moving traffic, pub about half a mile in the other direction.
What a little gem this turned out to be, we left booking a site a little late for the May bank holiday, so our original choices were fully booked. We decided to give Red House Farm a go, none of us had been here before. The site is quiet and family orientated, and is set within a long narrow field with pitches placed along hedges on either side, thus leaving the middle free for children to play, and I was delighted that my 9 year old granddaughter quickly made some friends and had a great time sharing the pedal go carts which are available to hire at a very reasonable rate, what a great idea they are. The seat can be adjusted to fit an adult so its not only the kids who can have fun. There was also a covered sandpit, with mini mechanical diggers to play with and a small games room with a pool table and some slot machines. The toilets and hand basins were plentiful and kept clean. There were only two showers for males and two for females, so being a busy bank holiday weekend they were in constant use, but for 20p you got lovely hot water for several minutes, certainly sufficient time to have a really good shower. The washing up area was covered and again 10p in the slot gave enough hot water to wash heaps of dishes. The shower / toilet / washing up block is situated at the top of the field so those people camped at the far end did have a bit of a trek to get there. I would have liked a small shop on site as because we use a tent and not having a fridge we can't keep dairy produce and meat fresh, so need to buy it as we need it, the nearest shops from this site were quite a distance.
As already stated this is a quiet site, traffic noise is barely noticeable, but I think there was a bird scarer in a nearby field which gave 3 shots every 30 minutes or so, and went on all day until dark, this said, we did get used to it, so wasn't a real problem, and luckily the dog was not one to be spooked by what sounded like gunshot. The beaches are nearby although not within walking distance and are fabulous, golden sands at West Wittering, and plenty of surf at East Wittering. The cities of Chichester and Portsmouth are within 30 minutes drive, and we found a butterfly farm close by which was lovely. We were charged a set rate of £14 per night, so for a family of five and a dog with 2 cars and a large tent I thought this was really reasonable, although don't forget to bring change for showers, washing up and the go carts. All in all this site was good value for money and one which the whole family really enjoyed. Most definitely will go again.
We used this site as a shake down for the new tent and to get the kids in to swing of camping for 2008.
The site is flat and had suffered form the week befores monsoon.
The owner was great let us take out pick gave lots of advice where was best and even let me leave the tent up until the Sunday afternoon to dry off after a wet night.
This really is a friendly site the regulars take to all visitors chatting and passing the time of day. It feels like a 50/60's village atmosphere.
Had a great time, the facilities are not brand new but they are clean and ok.
This is a great campsite in a lovely location. It is set out as a long field with pitches round the edge, so plenty of space for children to play in the middle. There is a footpath from one corner for exploring further afield. It is on a quiet country lane so overall has a very rural feel.
There are pitches with electric hook-up at one end of the site, a small sand pit and a hut with a pool table and other games in.
The wash blocks were clean and look like they have been renovated fairly recently. 20p gets you a good hot shower, and 10ps are needed for washing up. As mentioned in previous reviews the owner, Mr Clay, is very friendly and helpful, apparently he has reduced the number of pitches in order to create more space and reduce the pressure on the toilets etc. Although there are only two showers in the mens wash block there was always one free when we needed one.
The nearest beach and shops are at Bracklesham Bay, about one and a half miles away.
We enjoyed a meal in the Bell Inn nearby, and the Ship Inn at Itchenor does really excellent food. Local shops in East Wittering two and a half miles away include two good butchers, a fishmongers and supermarket and there are plenty of other restaurants and take-aways.
You can use bikes to get around locally - four miles to Itchenor, four and a half to West Wittering with its superb sandy beaches - the roads are flat and mostly quiet but not quiet enough for young children.
The horses and cows in the next field were interested in nibbling at our bikes when we leant them against the fence - I suppose that means dont pitch your tent too close to the edge.
I love this place! Have just got back from our third weekend so far this year (several times last year as well). Yes the toilet facilities aren't hotel standard but this is more than compensated for by how safe I feel my children are, the peace and quiet and the fact that the owner is friendly, accommodating and not greedy. Unlike so many sites you don't end up paying per person, tent, gazebo, dog or freckle that you've got. Three different sets of friends have joined me in my large tent this year, none of whom have been camping before and they've all loved the site. I have a trouble getting my children to leave each time! And if you're reading this Mr Clay please keep pitch 19 free for me next year!
