We visited waterside for 2 nights in june. Waterside is part of park resorts although it is a very small park.
We arrived at 7pm, partly because we couldnt find it! on arrival the warden came to show us to a pitch and made sure everyone had space between pitches. She told us what the entertainment would be and said if we needed anything to ask.

Although a previous review has stated that there are only 3 showers we found that behind the pool there is another block, without the push button workings that allow a long hot shower without the nuisance of keep pressing a button.

We were put on a small field with EHU although we didnt have that because usually park resorts dont allow tents to have it! the reason being that there were statics on the tent field so everyone was together. It was a shame because I would have bought it had I known.
The pool is the size of my bathtub and we didnt try it although it appeared to be popular if a bit crowded

The shop is very basic although the cafe appeared to serve nice food, we didnt try it.

The bar is tiny but more than 30 people and it was busy.

Overall we found the site to be peaceful, friendly and would go back again. The only problem is that there are no shops, supermarkets, takeaways within a 20 mile radius and we had to stock up in malden.

But if you are looking for rest and relaxation then this is certainly the place.

Staff really helpful But was not shown to our pitch one Warden should be told about data protection act as we were told all about someone that owns a caravan and if we were the unscrupulous type it would have been music to our ears so hope managers read this and take direct action. The POOL all it needs is taps on the end and you would have a bath it is a kiddies pool not an adults. Cafe come shop is a joke runs out of everything  everyday and yesterday Monday it completely ran out and wont get a delivery until Wednesday so then you have to drive miles for a shop all the petrol stations close at 11. 30pm you need a car don't go if you don't like walking because the toilets are a major hike if you are in tents took us 5 Min's to walk to them. 3 showers and toilets so small unreal they do have other showers but no curtains or doors and no light them toilets are better separate from the showers. Does have security but don't see them at 4am when you have to go to the toilet in the night and can be a bit scary for women at that time well lit otherwise but not in some places overall wouldn't go back its like the back of beyond but nice place just needs to be updated

Just got back today from 3 nights stay at this site. Phoned Monday morning to make a booking to turn up that same day, with no problem. On arrival the receptionist was polite and helpful (although forgot to give us our brochure on the site activities) and was promptly lead to our pitch by a very helpful lady that also explained the site layout.

The site was very clean and tidy, the ground was level, no holes or lumps when driving to your pitch. The pitches were open and spacious. Hook up for our caravan was available. Plenty of water taps sited around the site.

It is situated on the edge of Blackwater Estuary. And nice walks for the dogs or to stroll along yourself but muddy so not good for the kids to play.

The toilet and shower blocks were very clean although the toilet cubicles were a bit on the narrow side, but I never saw a dirty toilet so cleaned regularly.

The club house was well stocked and spacious with plenty of seating area's. The barmaid could of been better on her toes though.

The children's play area was nice and just outside the clubhouse with an adjoining amusement room in the clubhouse so you can keep an eye on the kids at all times if having a relaxing drink in the clubhouse.

There is a lovely size swimming pool with 2 Jacuzzi, one adults only and one for the children. And a sauna. All part of the same building are spacious showers and toilets to use when and after swimming. Life guard on duty at all times.

Didn't have any problems with noise what-ever from roads or anything else, so very quite and relaxing site.

Been told its a bit of a ghost town, meaning its quite out of season with guest, but friendly people was there when we was there to chat too.

Dogs welcome and to be kept on leads at all time, which everybody seems to obey. Otherwise there be dogs running all over the place because there are lots of wild rabbits on the site that come out at dust to feed on the grass, they seem to get use to the people around so are not so nervous of the people walking around. Nice for kids to see the wildlife.

We drove to Maldon town one day, nice size shopping area and Burnham on crouch the next day, only 8 miles up the road. Plus plenty of other drive's near-by.

There's a lovely little pub 20 minutes walk up the road towards the sea front (the Stone Inn) which was very friendly. You can either walk along the estuary and along a lane to it or walk/drive down the road.

Overall I was very happy with this site and will be returning again.

We planned to spend just one night at the site as a test for our first time caravan expedition but ended up spending the weekend. Really nice place but under resourced for the amount of touring pitches. As mentioned, only three showers although to be fair I had no problems getting a shower at any time of day. The usual hold the button in though was a real pain as it only gave about 10 seconds each shot. Reception was very helpful and friendly. Wardens were really nice couple helped us to our allotted pitch etc. Saturday evening the clubhouse was packed and we had to wait for the cabaret to take a break around half nine before we could grab a couple of chairs. The duo (As one) were extremely good though and worth the stand up. Site is very clean and tidy with everything easy to hand. Walks along the estuary was very nice but take wellies or stay off the mud flats. As mentioned this was our first caravan outing although we have camped for many years. Would definitely go back again for a short weekend break if it wasn't for the fact that it is only 40 minutes from home we would even consider a longer stay. I think I would probably avoid major weekends as the lack of resources would become a bit tiresome. Although on Sunday night we were one of only a handful of couples in the bar. Bar could do with stocking up a bit and try to encompass the more varied pallets. On the whole really nice place and would easily recommend it to any family. We have two grown up children who brought their babes and 7 year old along. For people in tents ask the warden to find you a smooth pitch if possible as the ground is level but bumpy.

I hate to criticise, but lets be honest this comments board is used to help fellow campers decide whether to visit a site or not! My family & I visited for a full week last summer - 2006 and were extremely disappointed.

In summary this site has tonnes of potential but is way past its 'Best before date' - which was probably back in the 70's! Everything was very, very tired looking. Not the standards I expected for the price paid! The toilet facilities at the bar/games room reminded of something from a detention centre, the toilet blocks next to the shop were the best of the two & were kept reasonably clean but were generally grubby and smelly due to age & lack of maintenance. The fishing ponds were popular with our children, but other than that we didn't spend much time at the site, as the whole ambiance was not at all comfortable or relaxing. It was quiet when we got there and for the first few days we had some space around our pitch, but then it got busy & boy do they like to pack them in! We could see the old markings for each pitch, but these are not used anymore - more is the pity! We found the staff polite, and quite helpful, but agree that they were generally a bunch of teens; the whole operation did not seem very organised or professional.

This site needs some serious modernisation, housekeeping, gardening/landscape management & TLC to turn it around. Would not recommend this site in its present condition or visit again, which is a shame because it has so much potential and is in a brill position!

 August 2004
We visited this site at the end of the school holidays. Taking two tents, three adults and two children aged 12 and 7.
Despite booking and paying for the pitches in advince, we arrived and tried to check in, only to be told that we owed £124. We finaly thought we had got this sorted out, and pitched up in the only field that wasn't waterlogged.

We then discovered that there had been a mistake with our booking, and they had put us down to leave a day earlier than we had booked for. This then caused us another headache - with the receptionist going for most irritating person in the universe award - If I hear the phrase "that's what it says on our computer" one more time I will scream.

The facilities were awful - three womens toilets for about 200 pitches and one of those was blocked and stinking for the whole 5 nights that we were there, and some nice individual kept smearing poo up the walls in the toilets and showers, and they were only cleaned once a day.

My advice is never go to this place, ever it was so bad.

We visited for 2 nights (fri&sat) camp is clean- on booking in staff failed to mention we had to book a swimming session of 1 hour a time in advance- nearly led to kids being disappointed on the Saturday - but luckily the life guard let us in due to people who had booked not turning up!

Cafe is small and could do with a face lift BUT food is freshly cooked and is worth the 40 minute wait we had!

Pitches are a little bumpy! Was disappointed to see so many dogs not on leads- when site policy states they should be on leads at all times We kept having our neighbours puppy visiting our tent! they also had a generator running till midnight both nights

Although toilets/shower block is clean , a couple more showers wouldn't go amiss also another toilet block nearer to tent pitching area would be great as toilets are a 5min walk away (not fun if you need them in middle of night!)

Thus all said was a good weekend in our new tent

Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. There were 4 of us ( 2 adults and 2 children ) in a fairly big tent, Outwell Nebraska XL. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and all of them made the effort to ensure we had a good time.

BUT, there are a number of things that could be a pain for a lot of people.

Firstly, there are not enough facilities for the amount of people on the site. For the men, there were just 2 toilets and 3 showers and I believe the same for the woman. Other than in the pub ( which you can only get into when its open ), there are no other toilets on the camp. In the mornings you didn't have a chance of getting in the showers unless you were prepared to either get in there at the crack of dawn, or queue up for an extremely long time. The same goes for washing up facilities, we had a long walk with our bowl of washing up then a queue.

The club facilities are also extremely small. There are only about 10 tables in the whole of the club house. We were extremely lucky on the first night and got a table, but there were loads of people standing. But, the entertainment they put on was very good and we did enjoy it although there is no air conditioning and in the hot weather it was almost unbearable.

For tents, the ground is extremely uneven. Although the pitch was nice and big, it took us ages to try and find a good way to position the tent so that it was fairly flat.

The restaurant was the best food we have had on any campsite and not too expensive either. Again it is very small, but all the food is freshly cooked and there is a very good choice as well.

All-in-all, there is everything on the site that you would need but on a very small scale. Everything is fairly clean and as long as you are prepared you will have an extremely pleasant stay.

We stayed here for 1 night. It had been very wet all week and a lot of pitches were waterlogged, however ours was large, flat and dry. This site is ok if you don't mind statics all around you. The site has unmade roads, it was a long walk to the toilets from our pitch. There are country walks and good views if you get the right pitch, we could see the estuary if we leaned to the left and looked around the derelict van next door. The staff were friendly and we used the pool, although it is very small they have adults only times and kids times. The toddler pool and slide looked long term out of use, the jacuzzi was very nice and warm. The loos -four only- are the tiniest block I have ever seen, but water was warm. There was a temporary larger portaloo type of block. The bar was nice, very friendly, and a good play area for children. We walked to the estuary- it was thick mud and seaweed. The site is in the countryside- was very quiet at night- no traffic noise.

We visited her whit sun May bank hols.

When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff. They allocated us a pitch right at the other end of the park and no where near facilities so I asked if there was anything a bit closer (2yr old being potty trained etc!). They found as a pitch a lot closer no probs.

It was very muddy but not the parks fault and the pitches were quite flat. It was a bit squashed in tho as they had booked too many tents to pitch no's.

After 2 hrs we had set up and were cooking dinner when an man let us know we were on a private pitch that he paid a yearly fee for! Luckily they managed to sort it so we did not move! The staff were very apologetic for the mistake etc.

The toilet and showers were very grubby and dirty and I only saw them being cleaned once in the 3 days we were there but the water pressure was excellant and water was very hot.

There is a pool there with life guard but it is small.

Play area is nice but I think suited more to 10yrs and under.

The shop was very handy and stocked just about everything and I did not think it was a rip off either!

Entertainment good but not a very large room / building.

Has a good laundrette which has dish washing facilities too but can be a bit of a trek depending where you are pitched on the park.

Over all a very clean, modern site def family orientated and ideal for families.

Nice and easy accessible walks for dogs and a very dog friendly place.

Good for a short break or weekend stay but think (unless you were going out everyday) that you would be bored on a week or longer stay.

As it is only a 40 min drive from us I would and will def go back for weekend trips.

There is a couple of lovely animal farms we visited only 15 min drive away (marsh farm country park) which I highly recommend if you have little ones 6 yrs and under. The reception also sells Colchester zoo tickets.
