We stayed with our caravan for 4 nights over the glorious Easter weekend, accompanied by family members in a tent on adjoining pitch. We were made very welcome on arrival by the site owners who were very helpful throughout our stay.

The site uses the same entrance road as the racecourse which is adjacent. Our family in the tent did here some noise from an event taking place in the racecourse facility on the Saturday night.

The wash block is the neatest and cleanest we have ever visited, with cleaning sponges and soap available at all washing sinks, toilets spotless, and a wonderful perfumed atmosphere.

The gents had only 3 shower cubicles, and this may be limited in a very busy period. During our stay the site was quiet, with many vacant plots.

The plots are all grass, many of which are situated in a tree and shrub environment. The shop is small but has most 'necessities' and the children in our party loved the inexpensive toys on offer.

The play area, although spacious is rather lacking in equipment for children to play,- swings, sand pit etc would have been useful.

We stayed for 3 nights over the glorious Easter weekend and loved this site. It is a level grass site adjoining fields on one side and Salisbury Racecourse on the other. There are tarmac roadways and the pitches are separated by trees and shrubs. The pitches have electric hook ups, and there are lots of taps and bin areas so everything is near to hand. There's a big open area for the children to play, though only one slide as play equipment.

The site has one utility block with some of the best loos and showers we've ever seen. (The ladies had 6 toilet cubicles, 6 wash cubicles and 3 showers, together with hand basins to wash your hands and 2 hair driers. Every basin had soap together with a cleaning cloth to help maintain the high standards.) There was also a laundrette with washers, driers and ironing facilities, a washing up room with 6 sinks, and a lovely separate family bathroom for cleaning up the kids.

Surprisingly the site was very quiet, though we were told that several bookings hadn't turned up, probably as they'd double booked and then gone for their seaside booking option due to the good weather, rather than to the countryside. How naughty and inconsiderate! Apparently this is the reason why we good campers are now being asked to provide credit card details and deposits or even pay in full at time of booking our camping holidays, otherwise the campsite owners lose out when people fail to turn up

This campsite is right out in the country, and is on the same site as Salisbury Racecourse, though there was no racing whilst we were there. Our caravan was less than 100m from one of the stands so perhaps our holiday may not have been quite so peaceful on a race day. Also, you are really out in the sticks so you need to get what you want offsite and bring it with you - the small site shop only carried a few basics and the nearest convenience shop was a 5-10 minute drive away.

Anyway, we really enjoyed our visit, would gladly return, and would recommend this site to others who like the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Very peaceful, picturesque site run by lovely owners. Toilet block immaculate, washing up area clean and under cover. Tent pitches all marked out so no danger of too near neighbours. All the popular supermarkets within 10 minute drive in Salisbury. Netherhampton the nearest village has one of the nicest olde worlde pubs ever, the Victoria and Albert opposite the church, good beer and food but does need booking for food in advance. Other places worth visiting in the area, Wilton shopping village, Shaftsbury (Gold Hill, Hovis ad) and the New Forest.

We decided to visit this site on the basis of very positive reviews. My wife and I found it a great site. It was quiet, clean and beautifully maintained with colourful flower beds and trees to make each site a bit more private.

The showers and toilets were clean and well maintained. We have a two year old daughter who loves to play out doors and I guess our only suggestion would be the addition of some more play equipment such as swings etc, to add to the slide.

I would recommend this camp site without hesitation and would be very happy to stay again.

We booked last minute for the last Bank Holiday weekend in May. Very friendly staff and great location right next to the racecourse. Excellent pitches, privatised by way of hedges.

Very clean facilities. Children's play area consists of a slide on a field, but my three spent every spare minute there, along with the other campers' children. This was in view of our tent so we had no concerns for the children going off on their own.

The only bad point was that on the Saturday and Sunday nights the racecourse held some sort of nightclub event and the music was extremely loud and went on until 4am! As the site is situated right next to the racecourse there was no escape from the noise. However, this did not put us off and we would certainly go back to this site again.

Popular Choice in this Area

Cheddar Mendip Heights Club Site

Set in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Mendip Hills. There are 90 grass and hardstanding pitches some with hookup, for tents, caravans and motorhomes. The well laid out site has excellent shower and toilet facilities, including a family room, plus a laundry room and a well-stocked licensed shop selling local produce. Non members are welcome to book!

You can walk to the village of Priddy where you`ll find a popular pub serving food and the Priddy Good Farm Shop, selling a range of locally produced food. There are many attractions in this area of Somerset and the south west including Bath and Weston-super-Mare, and the site is ideally located, midway between Cheddar Gorge and Wells.  My family and I love this site. We come here 3 or 4 times a year for long weekends as its only 20 miles from us.

The pitches are level all grass and spacious some with electric some without. The road through the site has, in the last couple of years, been upgraded to tarmac which is much better than the old gravel track.

The toilet/shower block is clean and inviting. There are 3 showers in the ladies, private hand washing cubicles and a hairdryer which is free to use. There is a family bath which is fantastic if you or your children hate showers. The key is kept at reception.

The washing up area is inside which is a bonus if its raining.

A small play area to kick a ball around with a slide. Not a lot but it keeps my children amused during our stays.

Margaret and Brian are friendly and do a wonderful job keeping the site up together.

It does get busy during peak seasons so to avoid disappointment its best to book early.

Spent 2 nights here over Easter having stayed here before we knew the facilities were excellent, the weather reports had given rain and sunny intervals so we decided to take a chance on the weather.

Ourselves and our friends were the only campers in tents and there were only a couple of caravans and motorhomes so it was really quiet. The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean and everything had that fresh disinfectant smell about it (even the dustbins!). Plenty of hot water too.

The owners are very helpful and friendly. Probably one of the best sites we have been on and will stay here again in the future. Our friends had not been here before were also very impressed and will also be returning. Looking forward to the next visit!

We stayed here in a static van as the forecast was for snow and we were travelling from Derbyshire. Two of the 4 statics on site allowed dogs so we booked one of these for 3 nights. We were warm and comfortable in the clean and well equipped van and the owners were welcoming and friendly.

The site was very quiet only 3 or 4 campervans and us but was very neat and tidy with well kept grounds. Would not hesitate to take the touring van as the facilities looked to be excellent.

We are walkers so found the 4 mile walk along the public footpaths from site to Salisbury very pleasant - it took about an hour each way. We also walked from the Site via Salisbury to Old Sarum but that took slightly longer!

Just returned from our 2nd stay on this site inside a month. The 1st was for six nights (3 adults + 4 children) and the 2nd for four nights (3 adults + 2 children)

The pitches are a good size, level and even though we had torrential rain for lengthy periods on our first visit the pitches stayed in good condition and due to chalk undersoil the ground dries out very quickly.

The toilets were very clean and the six (free) showers were adequate, even though the site was full at times. There is a nice laundry and the washing up facilities are excellent.

This quiet site is kept very clean and tidy by the owners, with lots of well stocked flower beds.

There is a separate play area with a slide for the children.

The site backs on to Salisbury racecourse and in the other direction there is a memorable view over a valley to hills beyond.

The owners are very approachable and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stays.

I would recommend this site as well worth a visit and we shall certainly be returning next year.

Just returned from a 3-night visit to Combe Caravan Park with my family, (2 adults and 2 teenagers) in tent as part of 2-centre English holiday. Our stay coincided with a 2-day race meet at Salisbury racecourse (not the reason for our stay).

Let's start with the negative: the vagaries of the weather in an English summer!

Now for the positives: We found this park to be ideal as our exploring base in south-central England. The park is located directly next to Salisbury racecourse and is level with good tarmac roadways. The proximity to the racecourse did not interfere with our stay , the horses were considerate neighbours!

A run into Salisbury is several minutes by car or by bus using a number of local park & rides. The nearest village is also several minutes way by car. There are some amazing views of Salisbury cathedral and the Wiltshire countryside to be had from this park.

The park had a selection touring tents, caravans and motor homes visiting during our stay. There is a small number of static mobile homes available and these seemed in very good condition.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and interested in their guests. The park is very well presented with well kept pitches ranging from very sheltered and enclosed to open field. There are numerous water taps and waste water points along with bin points dotted around the park. Also available are electric hook-up points.

The toilet and washing facilities consisted of one central block which is very well presented with bright clean decor and sufficient cubicles to meet the needs of visitors. The toilets were spotless (and fresh smelling!) and the wash basins had complimentary soaps. The showers are of good size with good pressure hot water (so often hot water can be just a trickle on some sites). There is a separate 'Childrens' Bathroom' with a standard domestic bath, baby bath, potty, toilet seat and step for those all-important little people!

Along with the toilet/showers, there is a well equipped laundry room with washing machines, driers and irons. Also located in the block is a good dishwashing area with several sinks / drainers, again with good hot water.

There is a stand alone tourist information booth with many visitor attraction ideas available but asking the staff is even better.

The park has a small shop selling the essential basics but range is limited. There is a good sized playing area for children, where they can play ball or just run about. There isn't a playground of swings, etc.

The cost of a stay here was also a consideration for us in these recessionary times. But where can you stay now with 4 people for 3 nights self-catering with wonderful countryside and views for under £50.00 in August?

We are happy to recommend this park and look forward to visiting again.
