Just got back from this camp-site, it is a lovely site, out in the countryside very peaceful, it backs onto racecourse. Our tent had EHU and secluded pitch, lots of trees and bushes to help shelter from wind. Showers and toilets first rate, clean and tidy. Camp-site shop was fine quite a few things for sale. Site not far from shops either. Area for kids to play on ok despite there being only 1 slide but all kids on site had fun including mine. The site is within easy reach of all the major tourist attractions and despite the weather we made full use of its location. Site managers lovely couple very friendly.
What a wonderful find! We booked two nights because we wanted to go to the racecourse which is opposite the site entrance.
This is one of the best sites we have stayed on. We usually stay at the Caravan Club Sites, and Coombe Caravan Park is right up there with them! The site itself was immaculate, with a large grass area for games such as rounders. The toilet block was exceptionally clean and fresh. The washing up facilities were excellent.
There is no pub within walking distance, but with views like this place has, who cares? It was a pleasure to sit outside until bedtime!
We enjoyed ourselves so much, we booked a return visit whilst we were there.
This is a beautifully set out site, peaceful with lots of trees and a lovely outlook of the countryside in one direction and the racecourse in the other, over booking Salisbury.
Such a shame, as commented on by a previous review, that the toilets and shower block were so dirty! When we arrived the site didn't have too many people staying but the toilets and showers hadn't been cleaned. The shower water if I'm very generous, was luke warm and it's one of those keep pressing systems which cuts out every few seconds! The bins in the toilet block never got emptied and none of it was ever cleaned in the six days we were there besides however long before hand!
Didn't use the shop as it wasn't open and you had to ring the door bell to call the owner if you wanted anything. They don't sell calor gas but we found a hardware store just down the road in Wilton when ours ran out called Wilton Hardware Garden and DIY. Park in the free car park (no height restrictions) and walk back to the traffic lights on the Shaftesbury side and they are just round the corner or I think they have a back yard for customers parking but as we didn't use it, not sure how big it is.
If your vehicle is over 8' high don't go for the Wilton park and ride to go into Salisbury as you won't get under the barrier. Go along the Netherhampton Road and take the Bournemouth Road at the big roundabout and there is another P&R which you will get into no trouble.
We stayed 3 nights in one of the brand new static caravans. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, large kitchen, dining and lounge area. It was great. All we needed to bring was our own towels, food and clothes. We were very comfortable. The view from the large windows is lovely. Great, spot, dark at night and dawn chorus in the morning. Will be returning. Friendly owners.
We had chosen this site purely based on the reviews on this website. When we arrived we were not disappointed to start with. The toilet and shower block was very clean and had nice little touches such as the floral arrangements and paintings. The children's play field was large enough for ball games and also has a slide. We didn't need to use the shop so cannot comment on that. The grounds were immaculate, pretty flowers and shrubs everywhere. Pitches really spacious. Ideally sited for many days out, Longleat, New Forest. Very peaceful, fantastic views.
Our only disappointment was that the toilets and showers did not appear to be cleaned the whole time we were there. On day one they were spotless and we were very very impressed, on day two things looked a bit grubby and day three I noticed the same 'dirt' was still there, the water in the mop and bucket was filthy and it seemed pointless wiping the shower out after I had used it. The showers were a little cold too and you cannot adjust the temperature, and the shower heads were blocked with limescale so the water squirted out unevenly in all directions.
If the toilets had been cleaned and the showers re-vamped then the site would be the perfect site. The state of the the toilets and showers was the only thing that let this pretty little site down. If you have your own facilities on your caravan then you will be fine. I will be checking back to the reviews to see if anything changes as we would love to go back if it improves.
Set in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Mendip Hills. There are 90 grass and hardstanding pitches some with hookup, for tents, caravans and motorhomes. The well laid out site has excellent shower and toilet facilities, including a family room, plus a laundry room and a well-stocked licensed shop selling local produce. Non members are welcome to book!
You can walk to the village of Priddy where you`ll find a popular pub serving food and the Priddy Good Farm Shop, selling a range of locally produced food. There are many attractions in this area of Somerset and the south west including Bath and Weston-super-Mare, and the site is ideally located, midway between Cheddar Gorge and Wells. We only stayed at the site a couple of nights, arriving early evening. The owners were very helpful and very friendly. The shower block & wash up area were very clean and what I liked in particular about the showers was that each cubicle had its own individual shower tray rather than a 'gulley' running from shower to shower. In all a lovely site with lovely views and we will definitely be returning.
What a very nice site if all owners looked after the sites like this there would be many more folks camping. Showers always hot &the cleanest I have ever been in, in 40 years of camping. The owners are always on hand & northing is to much trouble for them ,the shop is open most of the time & you don't pay high prices like you do at other sites well done
Had a great 11 night stay here. Very impressed with pitch; marked out with trees mostly, ample space for our tent, top box, trailer & 4 bikes to store, plus the car, and then still have space for privacy when sitting outside to eat. Toilet block brilliant; privacy cubicles for washing in the ladies, never a queue for the loo. Ample washing up space, inside. Large area for playing cricket, football etc., although only a slide provided. Very quiet at night. Even wet weather did not spoil our holiday.
I have to agree with just about every other review on here - this site is simply lovely. The facilities, pitch size, location, cleanliness etc were all top class. 5 STARS ALL ROUND!
The only reason I can think of why it was not full every night was because the site doesn’t have its own website so potential campers don’t know the cost or what it will be like until they ring up. Let me put your mind at rest. In high season it cost us £15.70 a night for 2 adults, 2 children and a dog for a pitch with a caravan, awning and electrical hook up. There are no additional charges as the showers etc are free. We have stayed on sites which cost £27+ a night which could not hold a candle to this one!
We stayed here for two weeks so saw it at its quietest (mid week) and its busiest (during a race weekend). Even when the site was full we didn’t feel crowded or overlooked and seeing the racing so close and for free was just brilliant! The band they had on after the racing was very loud but finished at 11 so no real problem there.
Other reviewers have mentioned the lovely toilet and shower blocks and I just wanted to add to their comments. In the ladies’ toilets, as well as 8 toilets, 3 showers, 2 hairdryers and 2 handwashing sinks, there were also 6 lockable vanity cubicles containing a sink and mirror. This meant you could do all the stuff you do in front of your own bathroom mirror, in private! The laundry has 2 washing machines, 2 tumble driers, 2 irons and a clothes washing sink. There are 5 dishwashing stations but the huge bonus for us was the children’s bathroom containing a full size bath with shower attachment, baby bath, toilet with child seat, potty, sink, and changing mat. Anyone who has ever tried to wash a slippery 2ft infant under a shower fixed 6ft up on the wall or bathe a baby in a washing up sink will understand what a huge difference this one facility can make.
I completely disagree with the one review that said the owners were unfriendly. We found them to be the opposite. Brian doesn’t say much but Margaret will always stop for a friendly chat. I wouldn’t like to get on the wrong side of her though! We saw her giving a right telling off to one set of parents about their child’s appalling behaviour and I’ve never seen anyone look so sheepish and guilty (and so they should! Adults who leave their parental responsibilities at home deserve all they get!) I can only assume that the person who wrote the negative review was one of the sadly all too common selfish campers who forget that sound travels though canvas a lot easier than it does through bricks and glass, so they can’t make as much noise on a campsite as they do at home.
True, the play area us now just a slide, but the large open area was in constant use for multi-national games of football, rounders, badminton, water fights etc with out the risk of damaging anyone’s property. True also that the shop doesn’t stock everything - but do you really need it to with a supermarket a mile or two down the road? However, it does stock a variety of second-hand toys and games that Margaret has picked up at car boot sales - perfect for a rainy day if the kids are stuck inside and driving you crazy with boredom!
The site location is good. We spent 3 days at Longleat which is about 40 minutes away. Stonehenge and the New Forest aren’t far away either and Salisbury itself is lovely. You need your own transport though. Buses only run anywhere near the site on race days and taxis are expensive.
All in all, a fabulous site that I would recommend to anyone and everyone.
This is my favourite site and we’ll definitely be returning! The pitches are clearly marked by trees and this gives you a sense of privacy. There’s a big field for kids to play on and a lovely view from the site.
The toilet/showers were spotless and they had a childrens bathroom with a bath, baby bath and baby seats. There was an indoor washing up room with around 6 sinks, and a laundry room with 2 washers, 2 dryers and 3 irons/boards.
We used the shop once – can you believe we forgot a bottle opener? – bought a bottle opener for 50p so thumbs up from me!
There are tonnes of attractions/places to visit close by: Stonehenge, Salisbury cathedral, Old Sarum, Longleat is about 40 mins away and is well worth a visit, Bournemouth and Southbourne beaches are about 40 mins away as well and are lovely and clean.
