Just returned from a weekend at the site and we very much enjoyed it.

I needed a site where an informal group of us could camp for a summer weekend and St Ives Farm site worked well. The fishing was a draw for the boys, there are plentiful local walks, and there is lots to see in the area such as the Spa Valley Railway and Groombridge House.

I had reserved the top field in advance and it worked well having a semi-private area. In an ideal world the toilet block could be better and I'm now not a great fan of chemical toilets but hey-ho, one can't have everything.

The owner is helpful and accommodating and dropped off some logs for an evening fire. The lakes and different levels to the site make it visually appealing.

We'll definitely go back because there is more we want to see and we liked the informality of the site.

My family of 6, as part of a group of 26 of us, has just returned from a fantastic few days at St Ives Farm.

Blessed with wonderful weather, we were able to enjoy this site completely - making swings in the trees, letting the children cycle safely around the small lake, going on walks and runs directly from the campsite and enjoying evenings around the campfire.

Even the more experienced campers amongst us found little fault with this site, and I wouldn't be surprised if we all return year after year.

Highly recommended.

The real bonus of this site is the situation, direct access to lovely walks in fantastic countryside. We had some lovely walks to the village and beyond. The dog had a ball!

Nice smallish site, it was a bit crowded when we were there and we were a bit squished in but I think that was because of our neighbours bringing more people than they said they would! Was a bit noisy at night too - but again down to large group next to us, luck of the draw really.

Portable loos were a bit grim at times but the other loos were fine, as were the showers. Hot water for washing up often ran out.

Would return.

We wanted a last minute getaway, we searched through out camping books and came across St Ives Farm. Owner was great, although they were full he managed to squeeze us onto a lovely pitch over looking the lake! Pack of logs costs £5. 00 and this lasted us two nights, which the owner kindly brought round for us.

Nice walk across fields filled with cows and snap peas to Hartfield, pub is a little pricey but there is a corner shop selling everything you need although would suggest taking rucksack if you are planning to hump back with beer! One of the cheapest we found, but what a bargain!

Must admit once everyone went home on the sunday we pretty much had the place to ourselves and it was lovely sitting by the fire listening to the radio.

Showers on the caravan pitch with washing up facilities, chemical toilets on the camping field but they really don't smell and are kept clean!

Dogs are welcome, but we were asked to keep ours on a lead which was fair enough although other campers did not follow this rule so there were a few dogs running around.

Very friendly atmosphere to the whole place. Would definitely recommend for a weekend away. In the heart of pooh country so plenty of walks!

Now that a nearby site has started to charge for vehicles, we wanted a similar site nearby that allows open fires. St Ives is a pleasant site down a narrow lane, situated on the edge of a large field, partly wooded and with 2 small lakes that can be fished.

The first part near the entrance, where the main loos/showers are, is for caravans, quite a few seasonals, and then it opens out into the tents/campervan area. Owner David is extremely friendly and accommodating, and areas for groups can be reserved.

However, pitches are unmarked and there’s no reception so just park up where there’s a space. It gets very busy in the summer and being a relatively small site, easily gives the impression of being overcrowded - with unmarked pitches you could end up being very close to your neighbour.

If you want to have a fire, ensure you pitch near a fire pit – wood available £5 for a decent sized bag.

Facilities are adequate but unsurprisingly stretched when the site is full: OK loos with paper, a few showers, uncovered washing up area, cold water only, a couple of portaloos further into the site. Having visited a few times, the ground is often either tent peg challenging dry or it can get very muddy after persistent rain.

Nearest village is Hartfield with its Pooh Bear shop, a pub and a small local store that seems to sell everything. Can be walked from the site but it’s a fair distance although the surroundings are most pleasant.

Some have mentioned late-night noise but I’ve not experienced it on the 3 or 4 Saturdays that I’ve been there, even peak time.

Arrival /departure times are relaxed, and on a sunny Sunday afternoon after the crowds have gone I can’t think of a better place to relax.

 Great site,

Basic but a beautiful setting, we stayed 2 nights mid week, and the site was quite empty. Which was bliss, you can have open fire's (wood sold for £5 a bag) in one of the fire pits which I would recommend you do it great sitting around a fire at night.

We brought are dogs along (they stay free) and the walks you can go on are fantastic,

The toilets are a little run down, but there's a new portable shower block which has nice showers.

All in all a good stay here and we would stay here again.

Just back from two days and two nights staying at this wonderful little campsite.

The other reviews have it nailed: for us, with two young boys, it was the chilled out vibe, the camp fires, the relative smallness of the site, the personable landowner, and the gorgeousness of nature all around.

There are two 'lakes' which are more like big fishing ponds, and with two boys under 6 we were originally a bit nervous about letting them run around but they quickly got it as did all of the other kids.

The portaloos and showers are fine, I really can't think of a great deal more to say than yep - go there :)

Fully recommend.

Stayed here for the bank holiday at the end of May.

Arrived and there was a sign posted on the drive asking new arrivals to telephone the owners mobile before pitching tent. Owner was with us in a few minutes to show us to our pitch. The first field on the site is for caravans and motorhomes.

We pitched in the next field against the boundary hedge. The owner said they were very busy this weekend and pitches were quite tight with not as much room as we have had on previous sites. The ground was quite rough and uneven and very dry.

Explored the campsite, there were 4 portaloos on our field and a 3 minute walk away there was other toilets and showers. The toilet/shower facilities were not very clean. The portable loo's were attended to every other day, this meant by the end of the cleaning day they did get very grubby and the loo's were more than full. Also there were lots of empty loo roll holders hanging about on the floor etc and there was no general cleaning they were just hosed down. This meant they were very wet inside for a few hours after cleaning.

The main toilets/showers were also not very clean. There were lots of cobwebs/dead insects etc and they looked like they had not had a good clean for some time. We made the decision to give the showers a miss as there was lots of excess hair in the shower trays. There was a cold water washing up area.

This is quite a large site but there is only one water tap at the top of the site where the showers were. There was a nice large pond where some people fished.

Due to the close proximity of the tents and the vehicles parking next to the tents, and VW camper vans with canopy's there was not a great deal of room for children to kick a ball about or ride their bikes freely avoiding guy ropes etc.

This site does allow large groups of people and in the centre of the campsite there is a large area which is circular amongst the trees which is suitable for a large group,

Wood could be purchased for £5 a bag, this contained about 10 logs. There is no shop on site and we were not aware if there was a freezer to use.

The nearest pub/shop is a 5 minute drive. The campsite is central to local surrounding towns such as crowborough, tunbridge wells etc and is great if you love walking as it is right on the edge of the Ashdown Forest.

We visited Knockhatch adventure park which was great for the children and fab value if you print of BOGOF vouchers from the internet. May return to this campsite in the future if I'm happy to avoid the showers again.

Great location, set within the rolling Sussex hills and with two fishing lakes.

Basic but functional facilities, with hot water in the showers (free) and two washing up sinks.

Great for walkers and cyclists with Hartfield (pubs and spar) and Forest Row (butchers, shops etc) fairly close.

Owner is very friendly and delivers fire wood to your pitch at £5 a bag.

All in all, a very relaxing place to stay and our little one seemed to enjoy himself too.

Nice campsite, we've been a few times. Facilities are very basic and do need a clean but a new shower block has been put in this year.

The campsite has a chilled out atmosphere and good fishing lake which makes up for the lack of facilities.

Good to be able to have a campfire. Logs are delivered by the friendly owner.

It does get busy at bank holiday weekends but there still seems plenty of space within your own camp. It can get a bit rowdy at the busy times but saying that, we will go back because of nice atmosphere.

Just back from a great Mon to Fri stay at St Ives campsite. Loved it. Great for kids who like fishing and running free. Great for parents who'd like a nice rest while children are occupied.

Loved the informality of this site (fires allowed, but only on established fire pits; not having lots of rules; views). Lots of hot water in showers and as the site was quite quiet there were no queues for showers or loos either. Didn't venture anywhere near the portaloos as I hate them even when they're clean!

The site was quite full on Thurs night but all noise died down by 11pm (even the large group of teenagers).

The tea shop next door was delightful and the farm shop a couple of miles down the road was good too (fresh cherries this time of year and lots of different ciders).

Will definitely return to this site in the future.

Owner was very friendly and regularly toured the site on his quad bike to check all was OK, to sell firewood and take camping fees.

Visited pooh bridge during our stay (about half hour over hill walk from Hartfield village centre)

We visited in the week during school holidays.Beautiful location in Ashdown Forest with basic facilities perfect for a 2 night mid week break. The owner is very friendly and chilled out. We had a fab spot in the far corner and were soon joined by other families which was great for all the kids. Kids all loved the site seeing the ducks and fish and generally being able to run about being children. That said the site was quiet from 10pm and kids didn't get up and play until 8am. I think it would be a different story on a weekend though as the owner said it was always busy then. Good well stocked village shop 5 mins away which does cash back and has a well stocked off licence. Otherwise Co op or Tesco Express 15min drive away.

There were some nice things about this site, but some problematic ones for me.

Firstly, if you like to make open fires it is obviously very nice. The owner was quite chilled, etc

However, for me, it was too crowded. In our field at the far end the view from out tent was about 10 cars and it did feel like a car park at times. I couldn't really see the pond or much of the surrounding views because of being packed in. But perhaps if you go at non-peak times this is not a problem. We did go on a busy, hot weekend in June.

Also, there are no noise curfews. So, on the Friday night we had to listen to basically a large party till 2 am. Including stereo music, lots of shrieking and so forth.

So, I think you really have to be prepared for that possibility and have a live-and-let-live attitude. Elsewhere on the campsite were not so noisy but you could be unlucky. No-one else seemed to mind though so perhaps people are used to this.

This is a basic farm campsite set around a lake in a lovely location with excellent walks from the door. The owner allows campfires, sells logs (but not kindling) at a reasonable price and is very pleasant and extremely helpful.

There is a well stocked village store a five minute drive away and a larger Co-op supermarket in Forest Row, 15 minutes away. There is a tea room next door, a good pub (The Anchor) in Hartfield, a 30 minute easy stroll across the fields, and an excellent gastro-pub, The Hatch, in Coleman's Hatch, a ten minute drive away.

The facilities comprise two showers, two W.C's for each sex and an outdoor wash-up area (currently with no hot water) located in two blocks in the caravan field. These are reasonably clean and well stocked with toilet paper. There are also four additional portable loos on the camping field. These get very full, dirty and the water runs out after a busy weekend. The owner has improved the facilities since our last visit and intends to improve the wash-up facilities very soon.

We stayed during the week when it was very quiet and the facilities were certainly not overstretched. We enjoyed this tremendously and stayed an extra day. This was our second visit, the previous one being at a weekend.

The owner does not live on the site. He also permits large groups to camp. Of a weekend this can lead to noise, lots of it. During the previous visit the adults stayed up making a lot of noise until the early hours and the kids were playing football at 5 am.

Given the current state of the facilities this site is a little on the expensive side although the showers are free and the hot water, unlimited. The logs are the same price as in the village store. I'm told that there is an additional charge for fishing.

We'll certainly stay again, but only during the week when it is quiet.

On arrival, we had to find a space to pitch our tent. There is no one to greet you.

The surrounding area is beautiful, the area is great for cycling and walking.

There is a tea room next to the camp site which is very good and good value for money.

There is a village shop about 5 minutes drive and a Tesco Express about a 15 minute drive away.

It is great to have an open fire, there is a man that comes rund to sell logs each evening, but you will have to take your matches and kindling.

Unfortunately, the camp site was expensive at £7.00 per adult and £4.00 per child, especially when the facilities are basic, the caravan field had 2 toilets and a shower and in the tent field there were 4 porta loos, which became full and ran out of water. The facilities were stretched with the amount of people staying there.

The washing up area is outside with one sink and no hot water, we had to get hot water from the taps in the toilets.

There does not seem to be any rules about noise at night, which would be a good thing to introduce.

David the owner is very friendly, and helpful when I spoke to him on the phone.

We also thought that the fishing would be included in the price but there is an extra charge for this £8.00 for adults and £4.00 for children per day, it then makes it an expensive trip.
