This was my first camping trip with just me and my dog and I wanted somewhere quiet with good views and walks - this campsite met all the required criteria. Toilets, showers and wash facilities were all good, although the site wasn't at full capacity, so it might get a little busy at the height of the season.
The coastal walk is on the doorstep and is great for taking dogs out for regular exercise all through the day. They were building a cafe at the site entrance while I was there, which will be nice for breakfasts and I can't blame the owners for looking to generate more income - with its good siting, passing walkers will have an ideal place to take a break too. The site fees are more than reasonable - £8 per night for me and my dog.
The owners were friendly and relaxed. The main farm house is a little way up the road, but that doesn't cause any problems.
It is the sort of campsite that attracts those who want peace and quiet. Aberdaron is not far and is a lovely little village with all the facilities you would need.
We loved this site-facilities are modest so glad it was quiet. Charges very reasonable-£10 per night plus £1. 50 for hook-up. 50p for shower was fair
Wind did roar round the site but then the sun would come out and all was bliss
Owner was very helpful-suggested walks and things to do. Eggs for sale were advertised on the loo door. He very kindly came back specially to bring us some. They were very good
Best part for us was the walking on the coast paths and the views from the coast and the site itself. Our dogs thought it was heaven
Well stocked Spar in Aberdaron and enjoyed a good pub meal overlooking the beach
Spent 10 days at Mynydd Mawr during the summer holidays. Site facilities are basic but more than adequate. Showers were 50p for 4 minutes, tricky with a 18 month and 5 year old but very reasonable considering we were only paying £15 a night with a hookup.
There were 2 main fields next to each other one with hookups and mostly used by motorhomes and caravans and the other one containing the toilets and set aside for mostly tents.
The Owner popped over to the site 2 or 3 times a day to empty the bins and check everyone was OK. He was very helpful suggesting the best beaches and places to visit depending on the days weather conditions.
We had to nip home for a few days but even though the site was full the owner very kindly suggested we leave the van in his barn rather than go through the hassle of towing it on a 200 mile round trip.
The access to the site is down a mile or so of single track road with passing places now and again but the views from the campsite and its stunning location are worth the faff of negotiating it.
The site is on a fair slope with some pitches being flatter than others but nothing a couple of bits of wood under one wheel couldn't sort out.
Aberdaron is the nearest village, about 5-10 mins drive or an hours walk. Anything other than essentials would best be bought from Pwllheli 30 mins up the road by car.
All in all a site with a very informal atmosphere, friendly owners and reasonable prices.
We have just come back from our camping trip and it was really enjoyed by all who went. The children in the party especially loved the fact that we had the field entirely to ourselves and could run around as much as they wanted. We were in the field opposite the white house, across the road from the toilets. Ok we had a bit of a walk to the loos but it was well worth it to have the field just for us.
The site is very basic but also very clean. I would suggest not going to the showers or toilets first thing as there was sometimes a wait but saying that, considering there are only 4 loos it didn't pose too much of a problem.
We only saw the owner once, when he collected the money but spoke to him several times on the phone prior to getting there and he seemed very friendly and helpful.
The only negative I have would be with the cafe just down the road. In several of the websites I looked at while choosing this site, it stated there was a cafe that was available for meals, snacks etc. But when we actually went to use it we were told that as we were not on their campsite they would not serve us, not even for a pint of milk.
This year's visit makes it my ninth visit to this campsite in just as many years having first stayed here in 1999 when it was just a couple of fields with a solitary shower and toilet.
It's come along in leaps and bounds. Still very popular with people on fishing and walking holidays, families and lone campers. Facilities have grown since 1999 to 2 toilets, 2 showers with toilet facilities, chemical disposal, electric hookups and an ancillary washing station for dishes.
Owner is very friendly and has an excellent memory. He seems to have remembered every time I've stayed at the site.
The scenery is out of this world and because of which can get busy. There is a cattle grid on the road outside the camp but the minimal traffic over the grid seems to cease at dusk.
The variety of excellent walks along the coastal path nearby makes this spot an ideal starting or staging point for those attempting parts of the Llyn Coastal Path.
Nearest pubs and shops are a 2. 5 mile walk from the camp site into the picturesque village of Aberdaron. If you do attempt walking this in an evening I suggest taking a torch as the lanes around are not very well lit, adding to the beauty of the area.
Nearest cash point I've found is either in Abersoch to the East or Nefyn in the North but I understand some of the local shops provide cash back facilities.
Furthermore, if you're hoping to escape calls from the office, home or whoever, the mobile reception in this area is flaky at best. Perfect if you want the opportunity to relive those days when all you had to call home was the use a telephone box.
Finally, I strongly recommend a visit up to the top of Braich-y-Pwll at sunset for excellent photo opportunities and maybe even a trip to nearby Porth Ysgo which also provides an excellent back drop for aspiring photographic artists.
Just back from 9 days of wall to wall sunshine on this delightful site. Yes, its remote and the access road is narrow and a bit of a trial and whilst the facilities are basic, they are always clean, this all added to the charm for my husband and I and our 12 year old dog.
The surrounding area and views are beautiful with plenty of open spaces to walk. The view from the small hill at the top of the site which overlooks Bardsey Island is stunning and a seal visits the inlet below most evenings. The owners are very friendly and helpful and have created a very relaxed atmosphere.
No mobile phone signal, no TV signal no internet were all a plus for us.
Aberdaron is a quaint little place where we got all the supplies we needed. The Ship serves great food and a bonus for us, they let us take our old dog in.
A group of 4 of us have just come back from this site. It is set in one of the most picturesque places I have ever been too. The site itself is pretty basic in terms of facilities. You need to take a kettle of hot water to wash up in the open air washing up area. There is no hot water in the loos either. There is one shower for ladies and one for men but as the site is small we never had to queue. The field we were on had portaloos, although it's only a 30 second walk to the main block. Having said all that we loved it. The couple that own it are lovely.
The village of Aberdaron is gorgeous and has a couple of pubs, cafes and shops such as a Spar, a butchers and a bakery. We ate at The Ship pub one night and I had a HUGE lobster for £20. The puddings are to die for. The second night we wandered half a mile down the road to the Pen Bryn Bach seafood restaurant. The owner hand dives the scallops himself.
There are plenty of things to see and do within an hours drive.
We arrived at this site after a long drive through the windy little lanes and hills, if I'd have know what these lanes were like I probably wouldn't have bothered. But I'm so glad I never knew because this is a beautiful part of the world, Mr Jones - the owner came up on his quad bike to welcome us and have a chat.
The site is a bit slopey here and there - but if you holiday in a field you must expect this to happen now and again, if you don't like it there are plenty of Travel Lodges out there.
The showers and toilets look to be brand new and are kept very clean, even having Imperial Leather soap in there, 50p for a quick shower is fair enough.
£15 per night with electricity is about the norm'. Dogs are welcome, fires too, but it is very windy up there and embers can fly quite a distance onto the dry gorse - be careful.
Everybody we spoke to on site was happy and friendly and enjoying themselves too.
The local towns and beaches are lovely, and the local sea food restaurant is great with a very good host/chef who catches a lot of the food he cooks himself, we had scallops that were caught only two hours before.
We had a wonderful 5 nights there and are looking forward to our return in the future.
Really basic campsite, only 1 shower/toilet per gender. The 50p for approx 2 mins in the shower is a bit steep. Although saying that it was only £8 per night. The toilets and shower were kept clean.
Otherwise this is a nice little campsite. There are stunning walks around the headland and plenty of beautiful scenery.
It's a bit of a trek to Aberdaron if you're walking - about 15/20 minutes.
Owner was very friendly and helpful, gave me plenty of tips on where to fish (although I only caught the 1 fish).
Beaches around here are some of the best you could hope for - Whistling Sands, Porth Iago.
I would visit this site again, definitely. But perhaps not with the family, just on my own for a fishing & walking jaunt.
Oh yeah, if you're a mobile phone addict then don't bother going as you will fare better than me if you get a signal for the entire time whilst on the tip of the peninsula.
First visit here, 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a 7 year old. Mr & Mrs Jones, the owners were very friendly and helpful.
The basic facilities were clean and tidy, but remember 50ps for the showers!
Left to your own devices, this made our stay more enjoyable. Stunning location, with views of the sea and lovely walks close by to watch the sunset.
Lots of wildlife around; fishing is possible by St Marys Well, but very difficult to get to unless you are a mountain goat!
Supplies need to be taken with you as the closest shop for basics is Aberdaron.
Suggestions for 'improvements' would be a chalkboard with a daily weather forecast, tide times and perhaps a list of wildlife around. A leaflet for campers to give them local info (ie where to shop etc) would be useful too.
