We stayed at this site in July and September last year ( 2007 ) and loved it!
As the previous posters have said it is very rough and ready but if you like proper camping it's ideal.
When we went, there was no electric hook ups but we were allowed to use the generator, which kept the kids happy in the evening watchin a dvd while we sat around the camp fire! According to the website there should be hook ups coming this year but nothing has been confirmed yet.
There are no shop facilities on site and didn't see any in Grendon, although in all fairness we didnt look as we went well prepared.
The club house was nice with the beer reasonably priced. Lots of room to sit out in the sun with the entertainment of watching the wakeboarders doing their stuff. It did close early though. So we sat on the grassy bank with a can!
Barry the camping marshall is very helpful and friendly and leaves you to your own devices.
The toilet facilities are two converted portacabins which are incredibly basic and leave a lot to be desired but do the job. Take your own toilet roll or do as we did and take your own loo!
The camping fields are rough and uneven but there is so much space you're sure to find a good spot.
As you're near the fishing lakes be prepared for lots of gnats in the evenings.
All in all we love the site, well worth the money and we cant wait to go back.

The road-sign between Grendon and Wollaston fails to mention camping at all, and the “No dogs” sign halfway down the long access lane means “Dogs allowed, both on and off leads”!
The lakes consist of five or six old gravel pits, criss-crossed by pylons. One is used for watersports and the rest for various types of fishing. Two substantial areas are dedicated to camping but, apart from the woods set aside for paintball, you can pitch pretty much where you like. The ground is rough, the grass rarely cut and the lakes unfenced. There is a fair bit of rubbish around, the camp toilets are none too clean, and the owners often forget to turn on the water tap.
So why do I like it? It’s a friendly site for real campers. Wood fires are permitted, there’s no curfew and cars arrive and leave all through the night. There’s a rush before dawn because the owners are lackadaisical about collecting the fees - £6 per night for a 4-man tent. The bar opens erratically and has reasonable toilets and a shower. Enjoy the cartoons of buxom water-skiiers saying “I got pulled at Grendon Lakes”. My only substantial gripe was lack of access to the adjacent river Nene, but maybe I didn’t look hard enough, and anyway the owners kept offering to let us canoe on the lakes.
If you want manicured lawns and worry when your child picks up a used tin can, you’d be happier elsewhere. If you’re tired of the health and safety mafia, Grendon Lakes is for you.
What can I say about this site. Stunning ! The weather was beautiful and the waters glisened. We were unsure about what we would find when we arrived. We had spoken to Barry (camping marshall ) over the phone, who was very very helpful,We explained our Motorhome didn't self level & we didn't have blocks. No problem he said & found us a super flat pitch with superb views. Hubby likes to fish & this place has 6 lakes. Slight problem though is that some of the lakes, though beautiful & well stocked are quite inaccessable due to over growth etc. Get there early to get a good pitch & do your homework. The club house was lovely, plenty of seating outside to sit & admire the views & generally have a good laugh at the folks on the water. There is a small bar area with large TV & seating, a small pool room & small restaurant. The food is basic but excellent & really good value for money. Only problem is they only serve until 5.00pm so don't expect a nice evening meal. The bar also shut quite early. We arrived for a drink at 9.30pm & it was shut. Most campers just stayed by their own vans. Even though it was bank holiday you only paid for the nights you stayed, there was plenty of space & yes there were loads of big families without all the noise. The toilet block in the field was not the best, but its only a 3 min walk to the club house. Free showers & electric in club house for hairdryers etc. Fab in summer not sure what it would be like in winter though. Will endeavour to give it a go.
