Had a great time. First time gone camping with the family. Had a huge kalahari 10 man tent, but they made no problem and offered us a choice of pitches.
There are 2 fields, 1 directly overlooking the sea and the other nearer the toilets. Families. Choose the one nearer the toilets if you wanna use them at night. Its dark!
Extremely friendly staff. Very basic. Roads in the site are more or less dirt tracks, but they say they have never had a problem with 'sticky cars'.
Didn't bother us that there was no playground as there was always space to kick a ball. Quiet and uncommercialised.

A lovely yet basic site on a working farm. Clean, hot showers and toilets were cleaned frequently. I understand washing up facilities were being added in the week following our stay.
As mentioned before there's some sloping on the fields but it's not too bad, the pitches in the tent field are best at the bottom - they're a bit bumpy at the top.
The sites not very sheltered so may not be too good on a windy day being so near the coast.
Freezers are available for your ice packs, but you'll need to ask.
Owners are friendly and helpful. Great value at £10 a night for a family of 4.
Fantastic location, could easily walk to Sandsend with 2 young children, which has a lovely beach and Rockpools.
Will definitely return.

We stayed in August for one week with our tourer cost was only 12. 50per night with hook up Site is great you can arrive when you want and stay as long as you want.
Views of the sea and the abbey you pitch where you like. Plenty of room for kids to play. Basic but friendly and toilets and showers very clean. We will be back.
Owners very friendly and helpful. You can walk to whitby on the beach or on road also plenty of buses.
very quiet site new pot washing area being built. Also site had two kittens which my son loved

What a perfect site for chilling out, toilets were very clean as were the showers. Close to whitby and sandsend.
The bus stop is only at the bottom of the road, and it cost £3. 20 for two adults to go to whitby, we left the car on site because it was whitby regatta week.
We would certainly stay there again. Derek the farmer was really kind and helpful, a real nice bloke. Back to basic camping but thoroughly enjoyed it, if you want five star luxury book a five star hotel.
We were only there for the weekend, stayed in bottom field overlooking the sea, but wished we could have stayed a lot longer.

We have just spent 5 rather wet and very windy nights at this campsite, but we had a lovely time, it is well situated between Sandsend and Whitby, both within walking distance.
It is a very basic site, situated on a working farm so at first glance looks a bit scruffy, so if you like well attended sites all neat and tidy this may not be the site for you.
But if like us you like old fashioned camping, basic but clean facilities and very friendly owners, who are doing improvements all the time, then I well recommend this site.
The only problem was the wind so take a good tent.

This is a lovely campsite. The sea views are wonderful and the location, just a 15 minute walk from the beach, is fantastic- a great base for exploring the lovely North Yorskhire Coast.
There are shops nearby. The toilet and shower facilities are very good and well maintained. The campsite had a lovely family feel when we went and we barely saw our 6 year old son, he was so busy galivanting over the site with the other children.
Raised fires are allowed- a bonus. At £10 a night, this site is excellent value for money, particularly in comparison with the other sites in the areas which tend to be costly.
Possible downsides: no washing up facilities, this was not a big deal but it's not particularly pleasant washing up in the sinks in the loo!
The site is noisy. Not a problem for us as we are early risers but don't book here if you fancy a lie in!
The camping site is on a bit of a slope, you need to pitch with care.
There was always a queue for a shower though I think this is inevitable when camping in August!
All in all the positives far outweigh the negatives and I would visit this site again without hesitation.

Visited this basic site over bank holiday, you can pitch were you want but can become a hassle if site is full,
Entrance to site could do with it sorting as it a hassle if you have a big caravan. Access road is very narrow be careful of oncoming caravans and cars as one will have to reverse.
Owner is very helpful and view were amazing.
Lovely walk into sandsend and whitby.
Shower are hot and well clean. We wont be returning

This site is great value for money, although it has very basic amenities. We were camped on the lower field (no slope for us), with a great view over the sea.
The toilets and showers were kept very clean - the only criticism being the limited number of showers meant we had to queue for quite a while in the mornings. The site was very busy at the weekend which only compounded the problem.
No washing up facilities as yet, but that wasn't a major issue, and storing ice packs in a freezer by the cow shed is a bit of an experience! There are electric hook-ups on site but we didn't need one.
The little ones loved the fact that it was a working farm, with cows, chickens and cats providing all the entertainment. Plenty of things to do in the surrounding area, with Whitby and Sandsend within walking distance and Robin Hood's Bay a short drive away.
All in all we were pleased with the site, and would go back there again.

What a Great site. Very Friendly staff. It's obviously a newish developing site as they are still building the washing up area. It is a fully working cattle farm. - kids loved it as they bring the cows down from the main field for milking on a morning. Its not an organised site with loads of signs and restrictions. It's more 'how it used to be!' you can just chose your pitch and go for it. Price is very competitive. The only downsides I can give will only be short term to the site. The noise from the tractors and diggers that were levelling the land etc drove you mad. - this wont be every time you go. Also the tent field isnt very level. In all- you can put up with that as it has everything else although the sea view I've seen mentioned in other reviews is a bit 'in the distance'! would go back because it's how I like my sites - quiet, friendly, clean and basic, but I can imagine that it wouldn't suit everyone. ?

Just had 4 days here and if you want basic its great. Good value for money and they provide free showers. The owner Derek and his family are very helpful and
Not only do you get the birds dawn chorus in the morning but the cows join in too! Within walking distance to Whitby and Sandsend with it's beautiful beach also The North Yorkshire Moors Trail walk among other routes boasting absolutely breath taking scenery and wildlife, in particular the odd Roe Deer and Sea Lion.
We liked it that much we have just booked again for August.

Philpin Farm Campsite - Yorkshire Dales
Beautiful tent only site set on a family run hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales, nestled between Ingleborough and Whernside. The Three Peaks footpath runs right through the farm adjacent to the campsite with lots of walks direct from the site from easy strolls to climbing the Three Peaks, and five minutes to the pub!
Tent pitches only, no electric hookups. Toilet and shower block and washing up facilities. Sit, eat and socialise in the old barn, with free wifi, charging lockers, freezer. At weekends the Philpin Snack bar is open for cooked breakfasts, hot and cold snacks and drinks, ice creams, chocolates etc, on other days there are vending machines in the barn. Find out more here

We have just returned from 2 nights at High Straggleton. The field we were in was relatively flat but did see another field with tents in that was had quire a slope.
The owners were very nice and helpful.
The toilets were always available even though the site was very busy (3 in the gents and ladies). The showers were free, nice and warm and worth the wait of 5 minutes or so.
The biggest issue we had was the strength of the winds; it was touch and go at times whether our tent would survive. Ours did, but others didn't, we saw 2 that had been destroyed and others had packed up and gone not willing to take the risk!
Had it not have been for this we would definitely go again, but I must admit that we would be a little apprehensive which is a shame as there are great views and it is in a great location for Whitby and Sandsend.

Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said. Helpful and friendly owner, fantastic views of the sea and Whitby abbey from the tent, clean toilet and shower facilities and lots to see and do nearby.
Our only problem was a major one ie our tent couldn't cope with the wind and broke - but obviously not the site's fault.
Will be back hopefully. You can park in Whitby at the co op on a sliding scale eg spend £10 an hours free parking (not sure of exact amounts).
Staithes nearby is well worth a visit.

Beautiful and simple farm site. Slightly sloping field all with electric hook ups at amazingly good value @£12.50 per night for 2 adults and 3 children with electric.
Showers and toilets in clean warm porta cabins, love the idea of family bathrooms with 2 shower cubicles and toilet and basin in each. Derek, the farmer cannot do enough for you, the only thing that lets the site down slightly is the lack of washing up facilities, but I know Derek said the site is ' a work in progress' so this may well be in his plans, will be returning without a doubt.
Well worth visiting the Beehive Inn in Newholme, fabulous host and meal 5* for both.

Had a great time all on the farm very helpful. Derek very good helps you set up and tells you were everything is. Been there a few times going again very soon, very clean and tidy very good value for money. No time restrictions you can get there what time of the day you want and leave when you want, this is great because you can miss all the traffic on the roads by leaving later. They have static caravans that look very nice we are going to try them at the end of the season. The walk to whitby is great dose not take very long
