Had a lovely week camping at Dove Meadow. A really well kept campsite with beautiful plants all around the site.
We were in a tent without hookup and our pitch was at the front of the site which gave us a lovely view of St Michael's Mount.
The best thing about the site is it's location. Being just 5 minutes from the beach meant we hardly used the car all week. With the Mount, the rock pools, the endless beach, the nature reserve and the village itself, Marazion is just lovely.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. More than happy to charge mobile phones and camera batteries and put freezer blocks in the freezer.
Facilities, as mentioned in other reviews, are limited. Only 3 toilets and 2 showers but despite the fact the site was full I only had to queue once as most of the units were caravans or camper vans with their own facilities.
There isn't a play area in the campsite itself but there is a very good one down at the sea front. The kids were entertained without though as they happily cycled around the site and found lots of other kids to play with.
We will definitely be returning as there is so much more to see and do in the area.
Lovely site, how many places can you see St Michaels Mount from the front gate?
Site wardens very friendly and helpful, a small back packing tent was no problem, I was given a huge grass pitch to myself as that was the standard pitch. All pitch sizes compared very favourably with Camping & Caravanning Club, the non-electric hook up grass pitches in particular. Plenty of hedges and shrubs as cover.
Well provided with water points, washing up area and chemical disposal. Toilets are adequate, sure sometimes they are engaged, I note most of you were in caravans, use your own maybe? :-) Yes, showers are 50p but the water runs for a long time and the cubicles are big - every site I've ever been to charges for showers, it stops the careless leaving them running.
Families should note no ball games on site, but this is respectful of other campers and Marazion beach literally 5 mins walk down the lane has acres of golden sand at all but highest tide to exhaust the kids on. Marazion village centre is 6-10 minutes walk, with cafes, baker, small shop, pharmacy, post office & galleries. Tons of pubs and restaurants, recommend 'The Kings Arms' and 'Bens Cornish Kitchen' (more expensive but frankly fantastic food).
Of course St Michaels Mount (NT) is also easy walking distance, there are several bus stops 5-10 minutes walk from the site where you can get buses to Penzance, St Ives & Helston. Be sure to visit pretty Perranuthnoe just down the coast and eat at the lovely Peppercorn cafe, you can even walk from Marazion, its only about 2 miles.
I liked this spot so much that I'll be abandoning the C&CC site at Sennen as I can walk into the village for an excellent meal and pint of cider and totter back up the lane with a torch some while later - no car required :-)
Just returned from a very enjoyable weekend camping here. Fantastic location on a very friendly and peaceful park. The pitch was large and well maintained and we never had any problem with noise early morning or late at night like we have experienced on other camping sites.
The only negative was the dated unisex toilets but most people can live with that.
A lovely, well maintained site with well laid out pitches for Motorhomes, caravans and tents. Very close to the beach and St Michaels Mount. There are around 32 pitches. Unfortunately we thought the available facilities inadequate for the size of site. There are only 3 WC's and 2 showers and these are unisex. The showers require a 50 pence piece to operate and you get around 6 minutes. There are no sinks to wash/shave in. There is 1 sink for washing up. We only stayed 1 night which was enough considering the lack of facilities.
Stayed here to use as a base for St Michael's Mount. Very good location for the mount. Literally 5mins walk to the beach where it's all located. Warden was very friendly and helpful.
Although it is a great location for the mount, its not the best site. Pitches are a good size but they definitively need a new toilet/shower block building. You had to pay for the showers (which is stupid nowadays. There were only 2 showers and 3 toilets (in total, all unisex) In the peak time, the site gets full (according to warden) so as a result, a nice his & her's shower block would be good, Would hate to have to queue for the toilet let alone the shower!
If you stay here, and stay on a Sunday or Tuesday, the mount is lit up at night, so its nice to walk back to it in the evening and watch it light up.
My wife and I have just spent a very pleasant stay at Dove Meadows.
This site is situated in a quiet area just five minutes walk to the main road to St Michael's Mount and the Local bus stop. Buses for Marazion to Penzance main bus station which serves the surrounding area's. (eg. Truro - Lands end -St Ives)
We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and friendly staff who also keep the toilet facilities spotlessly clean along with the spacious grass pitches with Electric hookup.
This is a great place to chill out and enjoy the surrounding area.
This site is now on our return lists for the future.
We had a really lovely stay at Dove Meadows. The site is beautiful, with plenty of space between units and interesting trees to provide privacy and shelter. There were lots of really friendly people there, several being regulars who return as if it's their second home! As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a lovely regular visitor who told us about the fish and chip van that was about to arrive. Who could resist hot chips after driving down in snow for a camping holiday! It made us feel much warmer!
The owner was very friendly and the warden and his wife were absolutely delightful. 2 showers and 3 loos were kept spotless (despite some selfish users) and the showers were good, with about 7 minutes for 50p in a draught proof cubicle that was twice the usual size. Plenty of loo roll always too! Water points are easy to access (we use a plastic bottle rather than a big tank so this matters!). The only slight frustration was that the sinks were tiny, and the water heaters didn't work, making shaving a bit uncomfortable for my husband. Also be aware that the washing up facilities only have cold water - we boiled a kettle to take hot water there.
The location of this site is brilliant: 2 minutes' walk and you are in beautiful Marazion bay, overlooking the stunning St. Michael's Mount. We walked over on the causeway on the night we arrived but took the ferry to look around during opening hours - the tide is the key factor here. We had a lovely time on the beach, pottering and kite flying, or watching kite surfers when it got really windy. We also took bikes and had a breathtaking bike ride on the coast path (hard going with strong winds) through Penzance, Newlyn and then to Mousehole where we sat in sunshine and shelter in a lovely cafe with delicious home made food.
One of the highlights was going the half hour journey to Minack Theatre, open to the elements in the cliff face. It was still cold weather, but we booked to see Honk!, a musical about the ugly duckling, for the best night of our visit. It had been a calm, sunny day and the evening was the same. But it got very very cold (frost on the grass most mornings). Fortunately, as campervanners, we had all our bedding with us and were cosy under king size duvet and on mattresses, keeping us warm on the cold stone in the night air! It was a brilliant show and a memorable evening. We also visited St. Ives, several National Trust places, and the seal sanctuary.
All in all, a really lovely site with simple facilities and a warm welcome. The location is wonderful and the people delightful.
Only here for a weekend in the motorhome without our kids. Cant comment on the facilities as we didn't use them but owners very friendly.
We picked this site as I have never been to the Mount, we walked out and had coffee and cake (where did my rock n roll lifestyle go lol) I thought it was lovely. Campsite is in a great position for this.
We had electric bikes so cycled all along the beach path to Penzance.
Janie and I have stayed at Dove Meadows several times and each has been absolutely wonderful. The location which is sandwiched between the RSPB Nature Reserve and St Michael's mount and just a few minutes walk from Marazion is so convenient. The facilities are excellent - showers and toilets clean (don't forget you'll need 50p for the shower) - and best of all is the welcome we receive from the owners. We're greeted like long, lost friends.
There's a choice of pubs - we've been to the Godolphin several times and they not only allow dogs they even have a bowl with dog biscuits on the bar. The food is good and inexpensive. We've also eaten at Ben's Kitchen which is excellent for a special occasion. They clearly have a really good chef and the quality compares with many London restaurants. Booking is advisable as it seems really popular.
We can't comment on 'child friendliness' as ours have grown up and we've only visited in the winter. However, we believe they try to strike a balance by encouraging families with well-behaved children so visits aren't spoiled for other visitors.
In summary, it's a great site in a wonderful location within easy reach of Marazion (10 minute walk) and only 2 miles from Penzance which is a lovely walk along the beach.
To sum up, Marazion is beautiful and only a couple of miles from Penzance which you can walk to along the beach and we'll be returning to Dove Meadow time and time again!
They were wonderful hosts. The camp site was beautiful, and very close to the sea and the town. We had travelled to England for a wedding and when we arrived at Dove Meadows, we realized we'd left luggage containing my bridesmaid dress and my boyfriend's suit on the bus from Penzance. The owner helped me call the bus station's lost and found, and they actually drove us back into town so we could check for the luggage at the bus station. Had he not, we would have missed our opportunity. We were able to catch the exact bus (complete LUCK!) and rescue the luggage. Then they drove us back to the campsite. We could not be more grateful for this - they took such great care of us.
The campsite was a good place to call home while in the area, being well-situated, with clean bathrooms and very pretty landscaping. The campsite was quiet at night, and in the morning, we were awakened to all kinds of lovely bird sounds. They also gave us a tip about a great pub in a nearby town, and we walked there and enjoyed a memorable afternoon drinking excellent local beers. We highly recommend Dove Meadows - thanks to them for everything!
