We stayed here for 3 nights. Quiet site with a very small childrens' play area.Welcome by the 'Site Manager' was excellent. There had been heavy rain but the toilet blocks were kept extremely clean. The grass pitches became a little too soft but fortunately we had booked a hardstanding. Great location for a break. York is only a 15 minute journey to the park and rides. A visit to the National Railway Museum and the 'Yorkshire Eye' are a must. We will visit again especially at less than £12 per night for 6 people.

The site is located in open countryside and short distance from the village of Sheriff Hutton.

On arrival at the site, we were checked in after a short wait, and shown to our pitch.

The pitches were generally level and well maintained, with a choice of hard-standing, standard and electric hookup.

The washroom facilities were clean and tidy, but with only three men's and three ladies showers, queues formed at busy times. We did however feel that closing the showers between 11am and 12.30pm for cleaning was a little early. The site has no family shower facilities.

There is a laundry room with washing machine (£2) and tumble dryer (50p). The site also has dish-washing facilities.

Disabled toilets are available, located near to the reception building.

The small children's play area is centrally located within the site, which enables parents to keep a watchful eye over their children. The flat tarmac site path is ideal for children riding bicycles and scooters.

A fish and chip van calls four times a-week, and circles the site sounding a horn, to announce their arrival. We tried them and thought they were good value for money.

A Tesco Express store and chemist can be found in the nearby village of Strensall. The park and ride scheme is easily accessed for visits to York. A large retail centre at Monks Cross is also a short drive from the site, just follow the signs for Monks Cross park and ride.

Overall the site is well maintained and family friendly, with clean facilities and good sized pitches. An ideal base to explore York and the east coast. A very enjoyable visit.

Up to usual Club standard for cleanliness and size of pitch, and quiet location, however, toilet and shower facilities seem inadequate for size of site. There was a queue both morning and night in both ladies and gents for use of the showers, admittedly the site was full, but surely they are expected to be at this time of year ? pleasant walks in area, 25 mins walk into village to a nice pub that serves good food, also walks in surrounding countryside with information in site office.

This site is in an excellent location for visiting York & the surrounding area's. A 15 minute drive & you can leave your car at the Park & Ride and avoid the congestion of York City centre. There is also a good shopping complex on the outskirts of town as well as the attractions of York Minster, the Air Museum, the National Railway Museum & the best of all in our opinion, Eden Camp.

The site is what you would expect from the C&C Club, but the biggest letdown was the terrible attitude of the site stewards! They seemed to take an instant dislike to young families (we were not on our own as we witnessed similar hostility) & made sure that any families were sited well away from the steward's camping pitch. This was very odd indeed as we had always found the C&C stewards at other sites very friendly, but not on this ocassion however! The lady steward even reduced my son to tears when he went to purchase the official site pendant, only to be told she had already boxed them up to return to head office (this was three weeks before the site officially closed). Upon our return we reported this to the C&C Club but they were not really interested in our feedback. It was sad to experience this bad attitude as the site itself was in a good location for exploring.

Very clean site and facilities.  Friendly, unobtrusive staff.  Small children's play area in central position so can be seen from most if not all pitches, but possibly not so good for those who don't like to listen to children playing. No ball games were allowed but Swing-ball and badminton were.  Easy access to York, Pickering and coast.  Small criticism is that site could easily be driven past and could do with  signs to give  drivers a warning that the entrance is approaching.

Howgill Lodge - Wharfedale

In the heart of Wharfedale, this beautiful site is terraced to give amazing views over spectacular countryside. Hardstanding pitches for caravans and motorhomes and grass pitches for tents, with optional electric hookup. Toast marshmallows around the fire pit! Come and say hello to their family of friendly resident alpacas.

Hot showers, toilets, laundry, washing up. Wifi, dog washing facilities and bike cleaning facilities. Large woodland area where kids can explore for hours. Small shop and morning coffee shop for barista made coffee, fresh pastries and hot chocolate. There are also luxury timber lodges with private patio, wood fired hot tub, fire pit with pizza oven and a picnic table. The perfect base for exploring the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.  Just visited this site for 3 nights and was reasonably impressed. Very clean and tidy little site, nice and flat . Clean showers, hot water and good washing facilities.

It is ideal to visit York and the surrounding area. There is a "no ball games rule" which I personally found odd as the majority of people had children. However I soon realised that this is not adhered to and ball games were played over the park.

There is not much to do around the area if you have younger children ie walks at night but York and Eden Camp are very much recommended to tire the little peeps out.

The nearby road can be a bit noisy at night and I echo the sentiments of a previous reviewer about the crows!

Just got back from this site, no kids and two dogs. Found the site very well kept and very clean with great amenities, hot showers and clean toilets. Would suggest camping on the edge of the site if you have no children as the noise from the play area went on until after 10, and the 'no ball games' rule obviously doesn't apply during the month of May! The 'dog walk' is more of a fenced small patch of grass and with the site being just off a main road there isn't much opportunity to exercise your dog. And a warning to those of you who have roof boxes on your cars! All the carparks in York have height restriction bars on the entrance. We had a very 'near miss' and drove round and round trying to find a car parking space without luck!

First visit as a member of the club. Superb site and very well kept.
However we found the wardens quite rude and lacking somewhat in customer sevice skills. But on the other end of the scale, the trainee wardens could not do enough for us. Hope they get their own site soon.
Overall a very pleasant if not brief stay. N.B. Those staying under canvas beware! Ear plugs needed as the crows at the top end of site fire up at 3.30am.

Great site, clean shower block, hot water at all times. Great, level field with a small kids play area. Very quiet. Fish & chip van arrived both evenings we were there (but we didn't try it). If you phone to enquire do it before 8:00pm - when we did we were told that they don't normally take bookings this late (it was before 9:00pm! Having said that when we got there the staff were fine.

We used this as a base to visit Whitby (Dracula), Staithes (lovely small fishing village at the bottom of the cliff) and Castle Howard (EXCELLENT and not tooo expensive either).

All in all a good site and when we're next in the area we will certainly consider using it.

This is a camping and caravan club site and is of their usual high standard. Flat pitches clean showers/toilets and small play area for the kids. Seems popular for cycling although the nearby main road has very fast traffic on it, but off this there are some good lanes for cycling and some nice villages to visit, Sheriff Hutton being one of them! The pub here-the Highwayman-does good food, however the 'Half moon' pub in the village of Strensall is to be avoided for food. The site is only 9 miles from York which is easily reached on the park and ride system, so no need to take your car into the city.
All in all a very pleasant site to visit for a few days and a good base from which to visit York.
