Lovely campsite. Owners were very welcoming and couldn't be more helpful, but also left you alone to enjoy your holiday. We went with my parents and had three dogs between us and was really great to have two fields adjoining the camping fields that were for walking the dogs. The owners were very relaxed (even when our dogs escaped a couple of times!) The owners informed us they had only bought the campsite in March and were eager at to hear any suggestions we might have to improve anything. They told us of all their plans for improvement, including building new shower blocks and extending the camping areas.
Camping field was at top of a valley above the village of Lanivet with stunning views. The pitches are very large and only round the edge of the field so even when full you wouldn't feel crowded. The grass was always kept short so even if it rained continually-like when we were there you didn't get too wet. We were pitched next to a partition hedge which added to the feeling of privacy.
The showers and dishwashing facilities were free and we didn't have to queue at all.
The reception area did sell a few items (and ice-creams!) and although not always open there was a number on the door that you could ring at any time and the owners would come out and open it up.
A gem of a site, green and well kept located in an open situation in beautiful countryside, with good views all around. Friendly and enthusiastic new owners (who clearly understand their customers) have just taken over, and are working hard on upgrading some of the facilities - a new reception area is now open, and increases to the number of hook-ups/hardstandings etc are planned. You are assured of a very warm welcome here. The toilet/shower facilities are kept immaculately clean, with abundant hot water. There is a games room in a barn (ping-pong etc, no slot machines - great!), and there is some childrens play equipment on the main field. The pitching area is mainly open grass, with shelter provided by boundary hedging and some landscape planting around the site. The grass is maintained in excellent condition, and the ground drains well in wet weather (useful in Cornwall.) - so no mud problems! The site is now open all year. There is also a small lake and a couple of adjacent grass fields accessible to site users for walking etc. This site will appeal to anyone who wishes to 'get away', it has always been a green oasis of a site completely non-commercialised, and its charms are obvious on that basis. Well located in mid-Cornwall, with easy access off the A30 at the western end of the Bodmin by-pass, and within easy reach of some good attractions (Lanhydrock/Eden Project etc). The last 500yds of access is via a narrow lane, but rest assured it is only 500yds, on a near deserted lane (we've towed a large caravan up and down there numerous times with no problems) - and it is worth it! Highly recommended.
This site was everything that we hoped for on or first family camping holiday. It is well situated between the North and South coasts of Cornwall, and there are lots of attractions nearby. The site itself is ideal for families, our children of 8, 6 and 2 had great fun in the play area in the centre of the camping field, and with all the pitches around the edge of the field, you easily watch them play. The games room was also very popular when it rained (thankfully not too much!) The extra disabled/family shower room meant we never had to queue for the showers, which were clean, and the owners were very friendly and helpful. A lovely little site.
A great site, it was a little hard to find and the roads were quite narrow in places but well worth it. Not at all overcrowded even though site was full. Lots of space for the children to play in the centre of the field so easy to keep an eye on them. Large games room if you get bored but we didn't need to use it. Quiet fishing lake which was great for my children who are still learning to fish. And a large field for the dogs to have a run. Very clean toilets and showers but only had two showers so sometimes a bit of a wait. We will definitely go back and have another quiet and relaxing weekend.
The Mena campsite in Cornwall is located in a glorious setting, with views to die for! We were given a lovely welcome by the owners. There is a large 'common room' with T.V. Games, etc. The toilets, washing, showering facilities were nice and clean and it was good to find hand washing soap and paper towels, when I had forgotten to take my towel over. There was also a kettle and micro-wave at no extra charge, very useful for novice campers, as yet too nervous to use our camper-van gas!
We went in July but there was plenty of room and the pitch was generous, well sheltered on one side with a water tap to hand.
The site is well situated for those wanting to visit gardens and the Eden project, which you can go to as often as you like for the cost of an entry ticket, so we will definitely be visiting Mena again.
With sea and countryside views, Tregarton Park is ideal for couples or families with younger children, given its relaxed seclusion and proximity to so many of Cornwall's fine safe sandy beaches. Large grass and hardstanding pitches with electric, divided by hedging and shrubs, perfect for tents and tourers. No statics! Superb toilet and shower block with large glass shower cubicles operated by motion sensors with ceiling mounted shower heads, laundry room, baby changing station.
This peaceful park is home to an outdoor heated swimming pool with waiter service, tennis court, adventure playground, outdoor football table, table tennis, pool table, large shop and take away service. FREE WiFi, dog walking meadow. Pentewan Beach is just five minutes away! Find out more here
Stayed here recently with family (2 adults, 3 children aged 7, 6 and 3). The site was everything we look for: spacious pitch, great playground and games room for the children and adults, and good facilities. Very central location for visiting towns and attractions across Cornwall and inspiring views across the slate mined hills. Thanks to the owners for a great stay despite rubbish weather.
Mena was a BIG disappointment & did not live up to previous reviews or our expectations (we were a party of 16 & all felt the same).
The owners Christine & Jack's attitude left a lot to be desired - they were most unwelcoming & downright rude.
We were charged an extra £70 as 2 of our tents were considered over sized (standard family dome tents) by the owners even though this was never mentioned at the time of booking & we actually only used 2 pitches for 3 tents.
The facilities were adequate but outdated & in need of a good clean. To be fair to the site the weather was wet & I can appreciate it is difficult to keep floors etc clean but a little bleach in the toilets would not go amiss (they stank) neither would a clean in general (hairs in corners, cobwebs round windows etc).
The site is indeed very quite & in a nice central location to get out & about from. It is however very exposed to the elements (drive a few miles down the road & the weather will be fine). The wind never let up whilst there & we have returned home with broken wind breaks, ripped ground sheets, snapped poles & bent pegs.
On a plus side the games room was great (if the owners decided to let you use it) as was the children's play area in the centre. Also the fact the site was far from overcrowded (unheard of for an August bank holiday), in fact it was almost empty but possibly not surprising considering our experience here!
If you like a site in the middle of nowhere, can put up with basic facilities, being ripped off, a constant gale & owners with a bad attitude then Mena is for you
I visited Mena with my wife and 4 Children, and was delighted with this site in every way. This is a wonderful, quiet site with some of the largest pitches I have come across. The pitches are flat and stone free, and are around the edge of the site, with a great play area in the centre for the children.
The washing facilities are spotlessly clean and well maintained. Hot water is not metered, although there is a little queueing, particularly for the 2 showers at peak times.
The village of Lanivet is only a mile and a half away, with a well stocked Spar Shop, open until 10pm, as well as a Fish & Chip Restaurant / Take-away and the "Lanivet Inn" which does wonderful meals for all the family. The Dragon Leisure Centre at Bodmin has a great swimming pool and other sports facilities, and is only 4 miles from the site.
Mena is well located for all the sights of this part of Cornwall, the Eden Project is only 6 miles away, Bodmin is 4 miles and St.Austell is about 8 miles.
Christine and Jack, the owners, couldn't have been more helpful, I shall certainly be returning with my family, and have no reservation in recommending it as a superb site.
We could not recommend this site more for families or couples seeking a quiet, tucked away campsite. The campsite is not overdeveloped with lots of facilities. You may not even find it easily through the country lanes which keep it hidden from the busy outside world . But just wait! The toilets, showers, and laundry facilities are modern (yes, modern), clean, and well looked after. There is a games room and playground for the children.
The best thing is the space! You can find a pitch away from other people, even in August. The owners are lovely people who could not do more to help. We have also stayed in each of the 2 static caravans which are good value also.
Proximity to Padstow and the Eden Project is great. Try it, but don't tell everyone!
There was nothing I could fault about this site. I have two small children and they were occupied from dawn till dusk. We stayed on site nearly all the time during our 4 night visit as the kids just kept busy playing. The pitches all surround the play area which means you can relax by your tent and watch the kids. We had 2 days of bad weather and we all played in the games room playing table soccer, snooker, darts and table tennis. So refreshing to not be spending out £10+ in on-site arcade rooms! The facilities were excellent and kept clean at all times, you could tell people worked hard to keep the camp to a high standard. It was very peaceful and plots are very spacious. Definitely a site to visit!
