Bought our tent in May and have used it so far 6 times in the UK.Several thunder storms and very heavy rain have no effect on this tent, it's quiet and doesn't tend to flap about like other fabric tents. Best of all for UK camping is the groundsheet - warm and cosy if needed, light and airy when you are lucky enough to get some sunshine. Really is a great tent for the UK camper.

If you are looking at this review because you can't make up your mind about owning a BL6, then look no further. Go and get one. I am the type who looks into things pretty intensely, and I got the bear. After owning a Pennine pathfinder for years, we decided to downsize to a tent due to lack of camping time availability. My first thought regarding a tent was an Arkansas 5. When I started to look for one I discovered the Arkansas was an old model so we turned our attention to the Montana 6. This seemed perfect for us. One thing kept niggling at me, the material. My brother inlaw has one of similar material and it is very noisy in the wind and lets face it it gets windy on the coast or in the hills. I spoke to a mate who has a BL6. He told me about the noise factor not being a problem with the polycotton and he also said it didn,t get unbearably hot in good weather and it holds good heat in the cold. I got one and can confirm all of this is true. I had to get a roof box due to the size of it, a mant banc 4500. I can fit the tent and sleeping bags in there. One tip I will give you, because the poles are tunnel shaped, there is strap running between each end of the poles to prevent them spreading. These are attached to the top sheet using rings. I disconnected mine. When we put the tent up, before the pins are inserted into the bottom of the pole we hook the strap on to the pin, which holds it into place perfectly. The reason for this is when you take your tent down, hopefully it is dry, but these straps run under the bathtub style groundsheet and therefore are usually damp in not wet. Can you imagine unpacking your tent without noticing these were wet! The BL6 is a solid well built tent.

Just a great tent. We have gotten better at putting this monster up, but just love it. We have used it now for the last three summers and it has worn very well, weathered heavy rain with no problems and kept us cool in the heat. We love it and look forward to many more years of exploring Europe with it.

We bought the BL6 after looking around for most of the summer 2008. Before the BL6 we had a trigano so we were looking out for a canvas/polycotton and the bear ticked all the right boxes.
As others have said it's heavy and it is a two man job to put up, although we now use the Yeomans way which we find much easier.
We have now used it for two years and have no issues with quality, our only grumble is that the front canopy does not go to the ground.
This is a great tent and we would recommend it to any one.

I love my tent!
We have it with the front extentision so there is lots of room for my family.
It is such high quality and is worth every penny we paid.
It is a bit big and heavy when packed away but we have a trailer so this is not an issue for us.
It barely moves in the wind and is really quite no polyester flapping around!
Highly recommended!

Really enjoying the bear lake but missed the covered sides of the canopy we had on the Sunvalley 6. So, we bought the polycotton tarp and trimmed to size and using simple pole clips this works well for us.Keeping the rain and most of the wind out of the cooking area. For next season we have stitched an overlap on the tarp to allow the pole to slide in. A better fit.We hope.

A follow up to our December review, we have sewn sleeves on the tarp to accept the tent & canopy poles.
We will only cook outside the tent and winds & rain seem to follow us (at least in the UK) so this easy enough modification really fits the bill.
We are extremely pleased with the bear lake 6, it's a fab tent.

Myself and partner can put this tent up without injury or argument. Yes it is that easy. Its comfy and very roomy. It has withstood high winds without so much as a sound. Truly fantastic to stay in. Well designed and thought out. Will be using it for many more trips yet. Still need to add more words so. Ground sheet good and thick. Great head space and well designed ventilation. Performs beautifully on every trip we have used it for. Its a real star

I am in love with my tent. I love every aspect of it. I have just come back from a week away (my first time in my new tent), with my 2 children and we experienced some of the worst weather you could imagine ever. The tent was amazing!
My Dad kept telling me that I should weather my tent, but unfortunately, I ran out of time, so decided to go for it and weather it whilst I was in it! We experienced a small leak during the torrential rain. Other people at the site however were flooded. The 30mph winds made no impression at all on the tent. It was as sturdy as it is heavy. The noise of the rain was heard, but was nothing like my old plastic tent. In fact, I would say that the noise was more from the tents around us, rather than mine.
My children had plenty of room in their bedroom, my only disappointment was that I had bought the discontinued 'kids bedroom' on ebay to go with it, and was unable to put it in, as it didn't fit the 2010 bedroom, but will try and fix that some how! The other larger bedroom was plenty big enough for 4. We had all of our bags in there as well.
The polycotton fibre kept us warm in the cold weather and stayed cool in the hot weather, especially when we opened up the windows and side doors - it was cooler than being in my house!
I had so many positive comments from people passing by, about how fabulous my tent was, and they're right! I bought the side extension too, along with the footprint and carpet. I would recommend that if you are ever camping in the rain/cold, that both of these items would be invaluable.
To cut a long story short - if you have the money, and you want to go camping for many years to come - but this tent! I AM IN LOVE WITH MINE!

WOW - what a tent, purchased in 2010 and used twice, plus left it up in the garden for 2 weeks in the worst gales. The tent does not move even when fence panels were blowing out.
I find it OK to put up by myself, but it is easier to have another person help feed the poles through.
Purchased the carpet and side extension which is ideal space for cooking.
Highly recommended, but make sure you have enough room to transport it.
