Fantastic tent - Excellent strength and quality, plenty of room for tables, camp stoves, kitchen utensils etc. Side awning brilliant, loads of ventilation, very well thought out and designed. Does need 2 to erect but not difficult so much as sheer size. Being a woman :) I would say this tent is not for 6 people, although it would sleep 6 and my hubby advises that it is not a luxury hotel! I found it perfect for 2 and plenty roomy enough, but would definitely struggle with more than 4! Still, overall very happy and had a fab time camping this summer.

Last year I wanted to replace an existing 5/6 person tent with something that I felt would be a bit longer lasting and a bit more solid. I splashed out on a Bear Lake 6 via BCH Camping and then subsequently bought the Front Extension via the internet. We've used the tent three or four times since and there are no complaints - it's simply the best tent we've ever had. Spacious and light inside, it keeps heat when you need it and stays cool when you want. You can put it up as a 1 person, but 2 is definitely easier. It does take time to put it up, so we only tend to use it if we're away for more than 1 night (otherwise we use a Vango Beta 350 and 450 XL). Would definitely recommend the carpetted floor as well as the additional footprint groundsheet, and the front entension just gives you all that extra room. We last used it in France in May this year for a week away with the kids and it was great. It has coped with all the weather that has been thrown at it and stayed solid where other tents have failed and the outside dries out pretty quickly in the morning when you need to pack away in a hurry. It's just a quality product - not cheap, but definitely gets my vote.

We bought this when it was half price in an off season sale as a replacement for a Coleman 5 birth that had been given to us many years before. I did a lot of research before buying and wanted to buy something that would last many years but also be something that made camping a bit more comfortable compared to the Coleman (which was good) in that it was like a furnace when the sun was on it etc.

The Bear Lake 6 is awesome. Yes it take a bit more time to put up and take down but its worth it. It usually takes us 45 minutes to an hour for us to pitch and attach porch. This is doing it at a nice steady pace.

We are a family of 5 and we usually put 2 double airbeds in the sleeping area and a roll up matt (I don't like the blow up beds). This fits quite nicely. Space wise sleeping it is great and im 6ft 1 and my wife is 5fr 10.

The polycotton works great and it never feels like a sauna (we used it this week and it was 22-25 each day) and is plenty warm enough through the night.

One thing we have noticed since using it is the amount of positive comments about it. Both campers next to us this week came to have a look round and had said that a lot of people on site had been admiring it. Not the reason we bought this tent but its nice all the same.

It comes in 2 large bags and does weight a fair bit and also take quite a bit of room. It is definitely worth it.

Oh finally we have used this tent during what seemed like a monsoon with gale force winds. There were no leaks and it stood up well. Was a pain to take down in said storm the next day but you cant have everything.

We all love this tent

We chose the Bear Lake 6 for the large and high living area and the quietness in the wind (we looked around a few Yeomans set-ups in the wind). We have not been disappointed. The only downside is the weight of the tent, but it is worth the extra weight and space. Putting it up is easy - 4 poles all the same, thread through and stand up. It would be possible to do alone, but is much easier with a second pair of hands (even if from an 8 year old!). The groundsheet is extremely robust but we choose to use a footprint underneath to protect it and make pack up easier. The inner tent had one clip missing on our tent (I believe there were a few like this) and we must get one sorted, but the tent has been fine to use without it. We have 2 single SIMS in the 2 man bedroom with no extra room for bags, but with 3 SIMS in the 4 man room there is room for a row of holdalls down the middle. We have also liked the flexibility of being able to unzip the divider between the two rooms - it means you can get to the 2 year old for that night time loo trip without having to craal past the other children.

The tent has been warm in the cold and cool in the heat - just as polycotton should be. It barely rustles in the wind due to the side tension bar, but we have found that the velcro that keeps the side windows down is slightly misplaced. If the tent is pitched slightly differently then this pops open, particularly in the wind. This hasn't caused any problems, but I am working on getting a double sided bit of velcro just to make the link more secure.

We tend to use the front door (no problems on our model) but both side door can be opened for ventilation - either rolled up or using poles to have a canopy at one side.

There's not much else to be said that hasn't been said before. This is a lovely tent. It feels secure and you can feel the quality. And for a family of 5 I think it will suit us for many years.

I recently bought this tent second hand for a really really good price and the previous owner had only used it a few times abroad. I decided to buy the older model as I was led to believe that on later/newer models you cannot unzip some or most of the windows like you can on this. . I have had many many different tents over the years but never a polycotton one.

The first thing I will say is that this is an absolutely first class tent. We have just got back from very heavy rain/flooding and high winds in the Lake District and it never let a drop of rain in and withstood some very strong winds throughout most of the nights. When we have been camping over the years when we have been out at the on-site entertainment complex we have always dreaded coming back to a cold tent if the weather was bad but I can honestly say this tent really surprised us. It kept us extremely cosy & very comfortable and was a real pleasure to go back to.

The tent does take a while to put up & peg out but once it's up it really feels solid - the downside to the tent is that we had to pack up wet and it was so so heavy 2 of us struggled to lift it. There was no chance of it going back in the bag due to it being so wet and big/ expanded and we had to fold it as best we could but it was like a massive pallet / parcel size and we struggled to lift it. It was a good job we had come in 2 vehicles and that my other half had a small van as otherwise we would have really struggled. You definitely need car & trailer or x2 vehicles to transport. I love this tent and it's definitely a keeper but for longer stays - ideally 10-14 days.

I will be using a bell tent for long weekend stays due to them being very quick to erect but I am very much looking forward to taking the Bear Lake 6 on a 2 week trip next year to Cornwall.

This is a great tent.

I have the 2010 model with the 2012 front extension.

There are few criticisms, I have not given it a 10 for niggly things like 'why isn't there an option for the electric light point from both sides of the tent?'

The feel of tent is great - minimal noise and the groundsheet is of the highest quality.

The tent is also supremely stable - we had 20+ mph winds this weekend and it barely moved. It also rained every day and there was not a drop entered the tent.

There is loads of space both in the bed pods (we had 2 x double camp beds and there was still loads of room) and in the living area. With the awning the living space is doubled - perfect for family camping.

I am very pleased with this choice.

Everything about this text is great except for the weight.

We are a family of five and have owned one since 2011.

It is heavy and takes around a hour to put up but once up it is very robust warm in the evening and cool in the day.

We take the view that if we are staying three or more night we will use the bear lake if not a smaller tent.

We have had a Bearlake 6 for 5 years for a big tent it is quite easy to put up my 14 year old and me (only 4'11') have done it. I like the idea of zipping the floor in there is lots of room for 4 of us and the dog and we do take everything except the kitchen sink. We also go away for weekends so have recently bought an Oakland xl which you can put up in a matter of minutes. We are going to buy the side extensions for both before next year as it gives you that bit of flexibility. Oakland are a very good make of tent and we are very pleased with both of ours sometimes it is worth paying a bit extra for good quality. I have been camping for 35 years and met lots of lovely people and stayed at some great places,

Following up from my last review. I have now used this tent on two occasions. Once was a short 3 days and we saw moderate amounts of sun and rain in which the tent worked fine worked well in both. The pretty was over the last week in Somerset and I have to say the tent took a right hammering by the rain. We had 17hrs of near non stop rain and for most of the time very heavy. Fortunately the tent was fine with only a small drip coming through at low level where a baby seat was pushed hard into the side of the tent but once removed soon stopped. There were a lot of people on the site packing up and going home as the rain was to much for some tents, even my mates kampa frinton 4 leaked which are regarded as a quality tent(my friend was amazed at how totally dry the tent was on the inside with not a hint of moisture getting through). The main difference I have noticed between the polycotton and the 100% polyester tents is the lack of condensation and dampness you always get from the polyester tents, also very quiet in the wind as doesn't flap about as fabric is weighty. All in all a very nice tent and definitely worth the extra weight and if the price tag is a bit steep go for a second hand one like I did ( used twice £350 +50 postage bargain) and the tent is pretty much identical to the newer models so all good. I won't be changing tent for some time. Might treat myself to the front extension though

We got our BL6 from the camping and caravanning show at the NEC this year. We are a family of 4 and this tent was ideal for us. The tent is absolutely amazing. Having done most of our camping in normal tents to then go to the BL6 with Polycotton the difference was second to none. Its like going from a 3 star hotel to a 5 star. If you use this tent then you will know exactly what I mean. The only slight mark I will put against it is the front canopy should have been made to go straight to the floor. We did look at the wolf lake which has the canaopy to the floor but the 4berth was too small and the 7berth too big. This is why I have marked the BL6 9 out of 10 instead of 10 out of 10. We are going to buy the front extension as it will be perfect to have your kitchen set up in without the rain getting to it.
