We booked this site for a weekend away during August, having been here in previous years.
The new toilet & shower block is a vast improvement on the old facilities, and the site now has washing up facilities. But the weekend we were here they were not kept very clean. I am aware that the weather was awful, and this can have a huge impact on the cleanliness. I noticed the mop and bucket in the ladies did not have any fresh water put in all weekend, the water in it was filthy. But as we left on the Sunday morning they were being cleaned as this could have made a big difference.
This site is very well laid out, very spacious and has a great play area for the children. The shop sells everything with extremely helpful staff.
We will definitely return, and hope that we just caught the facilities on a bad weekend. At £12.50 a night with elec it is great value.
The Good: Not too big, so didn't get noisy or messy. Nice toilets and showers. 'Pretty' site, bushes and trees around. Great value, was £62.50 for 5 nights, for 5 of us with a big tent and EHU. Good shop on site, and a playground and half-pipe for the kids. Nice, flat grass.
The Bad: The showers have those press button thingys which needed pressing every 10 seconds, which got a bit annoying when you were lathering up your hair and getting half blinded by suds!
We have just recently stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time. A fabulous large site where we chose our own pitch, quite close to the play area for the kids and wish we hadn't chosen to be so close as it did become a little noisy at times, with the occasional swear word shouted by some older kids, who really shouldn't have been in the park area anyway! Nice and quite after 10.30 ish so fine to get to sleep! Good fairly clean facilities all round and a very well stocked shop for the essential food items and bottle of wine! Only bug bear was not a take away to be found within miles but Fish and Chip van on site on Saturdays. Helpful staff too. Would definitely go back. Thanks to all
We have just come back from camping at Top End Farm. We went from Sat 14th Aug to Monday the 16th.
It was my first time camping, so I don't really have anything to compare it too, but this is what I found.
The site is HUGE and the pitch sizes are quite generous.
When we originally booked we were told that they only had non-electrical pitches left, but upon arrival they had had some cancellations, so lucky for us we were able to get 2 pitches right next to each other for my family and my friends.
First off we were given 2 pitches right at the back of the site, which initially we thought was great, only to find the next morning that there was a wasps nest in the bush behind us and after cooking our breakfast we were swamped by them!
My partner went and found the owner and he was really good, let us move to another pitch/es.
Although packing everything up was a bit of a pain.
The bathroom/shower facilities were basic at a push, can't really say they were very clean, but again, this was my first time, so I don't know what porta-cabin shower/toilet blocks are supposed to be like??
There were 3 showers, which wasn't very big, but again, they did (or the one I used) did what I needed to do.
The water was hot (too hot at one point) but rather that than cold!
The on site shop was small, but by god it had EVERYTHING! And the prices were the same as what you'd pay in a supermarket.
They had fresh burgers, sausages, steak and ribs (with bbq sauce) which were to die for! Yum!
{Highly recommend anyone to try them!}
There was a small park for kids with a climbing frame, 2 swings, 2 slides, monkey rails etc and a huge skate board ramp thingy.
Not really much else on site to report about.
My partner went to the nearest Tesco Express, which was about 4 miles away, but the Tom Tom got him lost on the way there/back.
We camped here over Bank Holiday weekend with a group of friends and family. We found the overall atmosphere friendly and relaxed. It was extremely cheap. We were able to choose where to pitch and there was plenty of space for all of our tents to pitch together.
The play area for the children was excellent, well equipped and very visible from all around so the children were safe to go and play, as we could see them from our tents. There were no restrictions on ball games etc., which we liked. The shop was excellent - very comprehensive and well stocked.
We found the toilet and shower facilities inadequate. They were very basic. Our children didn't like using them. The showers ran out of hot water so several of our group had cold showers and the rest didn't bother. The disabled shower was a wet room, and had hot water but the central drain was so gunged up that it barely worked, which meant the whole room flooded and water nearly ran out under the door. I have mobility problems but did manage to attempt to use the mop but this did not help to unblock the drain. There were long queues for the dishwashing facility, which also ran out of hot water.
In the evenings, the site generally was noisy, with lots of groups chatting loudly and playing music. We didn't mind this as we too were part of a large group, but if we had been wanting a peaceful break we wouldn't have been happy.
Overall, we wouldn't return because we want much better toilet and shower facilities and are happy to pay a bit more for these. We also usually go for quieter sites that are a bit more picturesque and have wildlife around to hear and see.
We chose this campsite based on the reviews and photos on this website.
We were not disappointed. Very reasonably priced for us at £12.50 per night with an EHU and near a water tap.
We took our tent and two children over a weekend, Friday and Saturday night and ended up staying another night due to pestering from our 5 year old!
The pitches are beautifully flat but there's not a huge amount of room between you and the next person. We found this out to our cost with some very noisy neighbours who didn't seem bothered about their loud swearing around our two young children.
Aside from this, we loved the campsite. As mentioned in other reviews the playpark kept our children well-occupied and we felt they were safe and we could watch from a distance.
The owners in the shop were very helpful and loaned us an electrical hook up cable. All we had to do was leave a £15 deposit which we ended up using for our extra night. The shop is stocked with all sorts of things plus garden benches, dog food, compost! It was enormous! Only downside with the shop is that it is expensive but then this is to be expected I think.
The shower and toilet blocks were good. Hot water always available and whenever I used the shower the block was empty. It does get busy at the peak times so avoid if possible. Toilets ran out of loo paper on Saturday evening but, it was a VERY busy weekend and I usually carry my own anyway! Washing up area very good with lots of hot water and a freezer for ice packs etc.
By Sunday evening the site was virtually empty and it was bliss! Just few vans and tents.
We visited Bedford during our weekend. There is the ubiquitous Tesco, but we found it handy on this occasion. We went into the town and walked alongside the river and the canal. Very pleasant. On Sunday we found the jewel that is Priory Country Park. It is a must visit. A huge lake teeming with wildlife, visitor centre. Bike hire. There's a marina there as well. You can take a picnic and sit / walk play all day there for free! Had to mention it it's great.
We highly recommend this site and we will be going back later in the year. Great for families with children.
This was an excellent site. We went on a very busy weekend where it seemed every space had a tent in it but the facilities coped well and it was quiet at a reasonable hour. The children's play areas were excellent - although you need to watch out for splinters on the skateramp!
The ladies toilet/shower room had a small leak behind one of the basins which led to the floor constantly being wet and muddy.
The shop was very well stocked (it is the village store, not just for the site) although the 'penny' sweets are rather expensive!
Food from the fish and chip van was delicious - I would advise not leaving it until the last half hour as a queue did build up.
We had an electric pitch in a smaller field off the side of the main field, which was ideal although two small trees had been planted in what seemed to be the ideal location for the tent!
The site managers were friendly and efficient and the cost per night was fantastic!
We went to stay at this site with friends and it was chosen as it was equidistant between us, convenience was the key rather than desirability, but we were not disappointed!
The location is two very large fields that are tree lined and partially separated and are very flat for camping on. There are a large number of EHU plots and water is available around the top field site.
The children's play area and skate half-pipe kept our children very well amused for hours and we were able to relax in the fantastic weather.
The on-site/village shop really is crammed with all sorts of things that you may need, from bbq's, to fresh veg, to ice creams, to magazines, to extra tent pegs if you've manged to bend or forget yours. The staff were very helpful and the shop prices were not grossly overinflated; the overnight camping rates were excellent and not supplemented by little additional charges for your children, awning, roof rack, spare wheel etc, like some sites appear to be developing a habit of.
The shower / toilet block has 3 of each in the mens, plus 2 urinals; there's also a large shared disabled toilet / shower room. It was pretty busy on the Sunday morning and if you timed it badly, showers were a wait as indeed were toilet cubicles for a bit, that may be an area that they want to expand for the future, but is was pretty clean and quite new.
There is an on-site fish & chip van that opens for a few hours in the evening and an ice cream van did the rounds. But quietly, so you could ignore it and didn't need to listen to a tinny version of greensleeves!
All-in-all, a very good site, staff very helpful and friendly and with the exception of some irritating fellow campers who can't be bothered to clean up after their dogs, we had a great weekend and would certainly go back.
I organised our rally meet (thefoldingcaravanclub) here and it was faultless. Staff very friendly, toilets/shower block nice clean and tidy. Kids play area good. All in all a great site. Would recommend it to anybody. This was our second meet here and there will certainly be more. Only bad bit was after walking into the village we discovered the local pub shuts at 4pm on Sundays. The site is very quiet for a peaceful getaway. Pitch fees very good value for money. Shop is incredible, has just about everything and reasonable prices.
Just a small review, to add to what every other review is saying, which is what a great site for families. The shop does seem to sell everything from great local meat including burgers to sweets and fresh pasties (delicious). The showers are a bit of pain need a little longer on the push button, but everything else is fantastic.
To sum up we've never revisited a site yet but we are already talking of popping back for another weekend. At £10 a night who wouldn't!
We haven't long come back from this site & it's a little gem. The owners seem friendly enough, the site itself is well kept & fairly level, it also benefits with a children's play area & a shop. The toilet blocks were clean most of the time. The ground itself was hard but that's hardly surprising due to the lack of rain lately. We plan on going back later in the year for a week next time.
The only negative points I can say is when someone was showering in the disabled toilet/shower area water was coming out from underneath the door making the floor quite dangerous & slippy to the entrances to the mens & womens toilets.
We have arrived home after a lovely warm camping weekend at this site. We chose a pitch in among the trees not far from the play area, our boys made friends very quickly with other young campers and spent a lot of time playing British Bulldog on the skate ramp.
We all liked this site but it was slightly spoilt by the attitude of other campers. A lot of late night noise (well after 11pm), children having water fights in the showers and dogs not on leads. It was our dogs first camp (he loved it!) and we kept him either staked or on a lead and cleaned up after him. Dog owners smile and say 'oh my dog doesn't need a lead' and then are unable to retrieve them when they wander off. Maybe a warden walking around every now and again would help with this?
But don't let that put you off this site, the shop is fantastically well stocked and the owners friendly and helpful, pitches are flat and the ones in the trees are lovely. At £10 a night its brilliant value and without a doubt we will return.
Just got back from a long weekend there after being recommended to go by friends. What a lovely site, it is flat and the ground is a little hard so watch out for bent pegs. There is a play park for the kids which is visible no matter where you pitch in the big field (There is 2 smaller fields which are attached to the larger field)
It was busy but because you are pitched all around the edge of the field you have a huge area to play ball games in without annoying your neighbours.
The shop has a variety of items for sale although some items seemed a little pricey, but the staff were always pleasant and helpful.
Toilet and shower block were clean, there are 4 toilets and 3 showers in each of the mens and ladies and a disabled toilet. There are washing up facilities but we didn't use them, although we did use the small chest freezer to top up our ice box as it was a very warm weekend.
Overall for the price I would recommend this as it is a wonderful campsite, not far from Graftham Water or St Neots. Cannot wait for our next visit.
Booked this site for a week at the beginning of July. Were really disappointed when on arrival our Scottish Money was refused!
Site is very big, kids enjoyed the playground. The toilets were a big disappointment. Not once during our stay did they get cleaned, just as well it wasn't very busy. Stumbled across a lot of dog mess when playing in the grass.
After a quiet week it got very busy at the weekend with lots of group bookings and noises until the early hours. We left earlier than planned and would never return to this site!
We have just returned from a weekend at this campsite and it is a wonderful site, highly recommended to anyone.
The owners are lovely and very relaxed, when we arrived we were told we could pitch anywhere apart from the electric hooks up meaning we had a lot of space to decided.
We went away with friends and had a lovely time, except for the weather!
The shop is fantastic and sells everything, you need not take any food with you it is just as cheap to buy from the shop and they do a lovely range of barbecue food. The even rent out DVD's if you are staying for a while and have electric hook up!
The showers are lovely and bright and warm, the only fault I could find with the whole site was the showers as they were the push showers and as soon as you got the shampoo in your hair they cut off, leaving you with a head full of shampoo and trying to find the button every few minutes but the water was reasonably hot.
The kids absolutely loved the play area especially the skate board ramp which was were most kids seemed to congregate. My kids made friends virtually straight away and loved it there.
There was one person who decided he could leave his dog off his lead all weekend even though it clearly states dogs should be on leads at all times, but there is always one who things they can disobey the rules!
There was a couple of very loud groups who decided to have a party until 2am which kept most people awake and then they decided to have a lay in the next morning and leave the kids to run riot.
All in all though you cannot put anything down about the site or the owners we loved it so much we have booked to go back at the end of July for 4 nights with electric hook up. If you get a chance to go YOU MUST!
Oh yes and the price, what can I say a tenner a night and £12 for electric hook up, you cant say any more value for money was excellent
