We have just come back form this fabulous island and this fantastic site right on the beach. Fabulous sands and turquoise sea such friendly people. The site was quiet as the permanently sited caravans had nobody staying the week we were there. A little misleading with the pictures of the site showing no permanent caravans just a vast beach. The shower block is adequate and cleaned daily but the showers are now a £1.00 not 50p. There is no electric hook up so take plenty of gas and ultra strong tent pegs for the tents. We were in a motor home feeling very sorry for the people in the tents with the strong winds that were present that week.

Its a little piece of heaven, perfect for children to play on the fab beach. Well stocked shop about 6 miles away, ok if you have a car or pushbike. The local community centre has a fab museum run by local volunteers who were so informative, helpful and passionate about their area. The little cafe within the community centre makes delicious bacon morning rolls and sells homemade cakes, just what you need when you have cycled there. Great you must try when you go even if its just for the cakes.

We had a couple of nights on this site this year. The beach is to die for miles of white sand and lovely shells. We watched a golden eagle from this site how magnificent!

Shower and toilet block was clean and more than you need. The warden was a lovely lady and very chatty.Would recommend the drive to this site well worth while.

Lots of sea birds to watch too.You can find nice sheltered bits in the sand dunes to sit and enjoy.

The local shop is a short drive and has everything you would want.We would visit this site again if only to sea the eagle!

What can I say!, as we drove to this campsite after our ferry from Skye on the 19th of July where we had been for a week in a Bothy, we were full of anticipation as we had only camped once before in the lakes. Although the drive from Tarbert is a long one, it was so worth it as we came around the corner and saw the bay for the first time.

We live born and bred on Sir Fon (Anglesey) surrounded by great beaches but this is something else. White fine sand, and turquoise seas make this an idyllic spot for a relaxing get away from it all holiday. Yes, the static tourers were everywhere(about 20 of them dotted around)but I for one am happy for the locals to have that right.

We phoned the number in the toilet block as we arrived and were told by a lovely lady we came to know as Agnes the warden that we could pitch anywhere we thought reasonable to. It was £6 per night! although I explained we had a large tent it was still £6. We went to find their house just down from the site after pitching, and were made very welcome by Agnes and her husband. They were thrilled to realize we had Welsh as a 'Mother tongue',and we were as thrilled to hear their Gaelic in full use.

The shower block was small, with 2 loos and 2 showers (50p slot) each for the men and women, then 2 public loos around the other side. These were cleaned every morning and evening. There was also a sink for pot washing. I have to dry my hair with a drier every morning, so I was pleased there was a double plug in this area. Couldn't reach to see in the mirror whilst doing it but hey! I was on holiday so what the hell, as long as it was dry and presentable.

We got friendly straight away with a lady her daughter and grandson in the caravan next to where we were. They lived in Stornoway but came to the beach for weekends etc. Wonderful people, and when the wind got so bad on the 3rd night at about 8.30pm and broke the main pole of the tent in 2 places, The lady who shall remain nameless here ran to help us decamp, and as they had already packed their car up to go home offered us their caravan to sleep in for what was our last night on the site. We had said we were going to have to sleep in the car, but she insisted we had her van. We were saved and have made friends for life we hope.

We loved this little bit of Lewis, and were very sad to leave. I hope that more tourism doesn't spoil this fantastic place and the wonderful people there. How brilliant it was to go into shops, post offices, the little museum in Cnip etc and see they were run by local people, ready to help all the time.

The Campsite and the Hebrides are a treasure, and we will go back one day soon hopefully.

There are some caravans that are permanently sited on this site and most were empty when we were there. It is a truly fantastic location, right on the beach and wow, what a beach! It is worth the drive to get here. When the sun shines it is a like a part of heaven on earth. Turquoise sea and white sand, with seals bobbing in the bay. It is quite sheltered too which makes it warmer. The facilities are good but take fifty pence for the shower. It is really cheap - we paid a fiver a night for the van.
There is no electric hook up or laundry. You need to pay at the house down the road or the wardens will come and collect each evening. They are a lovely friendly old couple. There is a great shop that stocks loads of stuff and has fuel in Uig down the road and I think you can camp down there somewhere too. Great spot and worth the drive (about 1 hour from Stornaway). Imagine kids would love it too as there is loads of space to play safely.
