Good location to beaches and other historical sites. Children enjoyed the pool and Trampolines. Pool is big enough for kids to enjoy with charge of £3 for child and £4 for adult.

There is a barn with snooker table, piano and Fridge Freezer, though needs to be cleaned including fridge.

There are quite a few toilets and showers. However, only one had hot water- only used ladies. And not all Toilets had soaps! Much needed in COVID times! The wash area only had one sink working with very slow water pressure, made it quite hard to wash up.

Nonetheless, campfires are provided with a truck ride for children in the evenings.

Management response: This is a spiteful review and not a reflection of what most my campers say.

The real problem was the objection to the charge per person for swimming; if the parents have 5 kids then it’s not going to be cheap. My business and therefore other campers who pay their fair share are not going to discount for the amount of kids in one family – sorry that’s life.

Yes, we have quite a few toilets and showers (all separate units on different hot waters tanks), it is not case that all units suddenly don’t have hot water – So this is NOT TRUE.

To say ‘And not all Toilets had soaps ‘ is a misrepresentation; Maybe, one of the toilets had run out of soap, which normally gets checked every day by the cleaner.

Just had a really good time at Mill Farm, it has plenty of space and beautiful view of the sky and landscape.

An escape from the fast pace, you can have your own campfire and Ray the owner is laid back and welcoming, he takes time out to give the kids a good laugh, the fishing is good.

The covid rules are easy to stick to here as there are lots of toilets and wide open spaces.

It's wild camping but with added bonus of facilities and the Poachers Pocket is welcoming and serves delicious food.

It's a short drive to nice beaches and there's a local tescos and really handy use of a fridge at the campsite,

Its great, our first time, will be back, Thanks Ray :)

This is our fifth year at mill farm we love the campsite, and carnt imagine booking another campsite when we visit Suffolk

If your after a get a way from the reality of life this the place to go.

Ray Ellis is a generous considerate host which makes the experience of this campsite even better.

The pitches are spacious and tranquil and it’s situation is ideal for visiting all the beautiful Suffolk has to offer

We love this campsite and its our second stay here in 2 years. We are a family of 4 with children aged 8 and 15 years. Its a spacious site, with plenty of well kept facilities for the numbers of guest staying.

There is a games barn, small lake with fishing (small fish), trampolines and lots of fields to play in. The owner Ray is friendly and helpful.

The campsite is very close to the village pub, good beers and food. The village is close with most amenities you could want.

Absolutely fantastic weekend away at a beautiful campsite! Lovely setting, large pitches, and everything you need to have an enjoyable stay.

Ray went above and beyond for our whole family, and makes a particular effort to ensure the children at the site have a fun time, which they most certainly did!

Evening rides on the sledges, a pool party complete with music, and firewood collecting certainly made our girls stay unforgettable!

Really couldn't fault our stay, and will most certainly be recommending and returning.

The caravan park was very spacious and the lake was very good for fishing with lots of fish.

The caravan was adequate but there were lots of flies in it which were very hard to get rid of. The site could do with more showers and toilets and need updating.

We had lovely weather.

The owner was very friendly
Management response: I’m disappointed with this review as I thought I was helping and an old retired couple be next to their family who were camping in a tent.

Clearly the old couple were not going to do tenting so I offered an older touring caravan for them to hire for £20 a night, next to the tent. I would say this was very good value – they said ‘adequate’?

Despite explaining how a touring caravan and cassette toilet works ‘if you don’t close cassette it smells & attract flies’.

Our other Caravan statics for hire with large better toilet and showers cost more than £20 a night to hire and on hindsight they should have been advised to hire those if their budget could stretch?

Of course during these Covid times we are getting new camping novices who have previously done the cheap good value foreign holidays (we don’t compare to 4*package hotels) and I suspect those holidays will be more expensive & less safe in future.

Regards Ray Ellis

I cannot find any negative things to say about this gem of a site. Ray (and his son who checked us in) were the perfect hosts for the perfect camp site.

Facilities were clean and plentiful for the amount of guests on site - even on a bank holiday weekend.

The pitches were the largest we have seen and the games room and pool would have been an added bonus in bad weather, thankfully we had beautiful weather to explore the amazing Suffolk coast and nature reserves.

My daughters holiday was made perfect by Ray’s sledging and rounding up all the children so they made friends - as she (10 years old) said “who needs Disney when you can have Rays sledges!”

For a fun, no frills, campsite in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, this place really is perfect.

We camped with friends at Mill Farm and had a wonderful weekend with our own private field.

Ray the owner was very welcoming and gave the kids a ride on the back of his trailer, which they absolutely loved and are still talking about.

Some of the site facilities are a little basic and, while the games room is a great space for rainy days, it could be better equipped for small children but to me these are small things compared with the fun of feeding the fish in the pond and toasting marshmallows by a campfire.

We hope to return next year.

Just returned from a visit from mill farm, lots of secluded areas to choose from and we could have a camp fire using the fire pits along with the supplied wood.

Washing up area near men’s loos/showers, our ladies toilets were 50 metres away but worth the walk as there is a nice power shower and it meant the men had to do the washing up - lol.

We will return with our friends in a group together thanks to Ray and his sons.

We had a camping break on the Suffolk coastline, stayed at Mill Farm for 5 days and the Latitude music festival for 4 days.

These sites are like ‘chalk & cheese’ - Our area at Mill Farm was so large you could have put 20 tents Latitude tents in that space.

As for the toilets & showers: 1/10 for Latitude and 9/10 for Mill Farm – The ladies tell me their toilet/shower seemed new with carpets and rugs!

Nice little pub serving good value home cooked food.

We also privately hired the swimming pool between 4 of us for £10 – tropically warm, what a way to relax :)

An ok place to stay in a nice area.

So, starting with the positives: A spacious site where you can find a number of corners to tuck yourself away if that is your desire. Friendly owner.

Unfortunately there were some negative points: The toilets and shower blocks aren't really good enough. There is one recently refurbished unit which is adequate but the others are way below par. No cold water taps were working. No lights in two of the three toilets. No hairdryers and no power points to plug in your own in any of the shower rooms and no soap in any of the dispensers either, even the updated room (a basic hygiene requirement surely?).

Some reviewers have mentioned a bar with piano and a games room. They may have been there once but not now, they are currently buried in what can only be described as a junk/storage building. Their website states there is a bar and restaurant "on site" but this is simply not the case! The new "indoor heated swimming pool" really isn't. It is more an oversized plastic paddling pool hidden behind a garage/workshop and not somewhere you would really want to go.

This could be a really nice place but at the moment is is very basic and I have to say, overpriced!
Management response: I can please 99% of the people 99% of the time, but this is the review from the sad 1% - I know exactly who this was as they were an older new couple (recently divorced) in a tent for the first time.

Their budget was for a tent but expecting a 5* hotel – again, sad.

To clarify some of the moans from which I deem to be a malicious review.

25 meters from our main gates is the Poachers Pocket Pub & Restaurant - OK we not technically not on our 26 acre site!

New photo’s uploaded of the Swimming pool - this is not padding pool (but not an Olympic pool either)!

LOL – There are no hair dryers or power points in the showers/toilet (these people are getting confused with a 5* hotel), however, I would recommend if they every go camping again spent a few £ on an electric pitch and bring they own hair dryer!

Please note, I will not pander to the 1% and give discounts in fear of a bad review, we mainly have nice regular guests that we know by first name – so we weed out ‘Riff-Raff’ and we are not a commercial site ‘free for anyone’ to come and look around – CCTV at entrance for 99% security.

Regards Ray

I'm a little reluctant to post a negative review since many people clearly enjoy the site. But the facilities are so poor that I think it's only fair that potential visitors should have a picture of the benefits and disadvantages of the site.

Positives

We had a vast amount of space to ourselves - no-one else in the field. Mild background traffic hum but drowned out by the birdsong! the pub, the Poachers Pocket, is brilliant and a very worthwhile destination in its own right.

Negatives

The facilities, toilet, shower and washing up area, were pretty disgusting I'm afraid. These would have to be completely updated before I would consider coming back

There's very little lighting or paths, so torches and soggy feet are the order of the day on the way home from the pub. No biggie, but good to know

The area is prettty ramshackle - again no biggie, but rather off-putting

In summary, this is probably a great site if you have kids, and you're self-sufficient in respect of loo and shower.

Otherwise, it's sort of ok for a brief stopover, but not recommended by me.

Sorry!
Management response: For May/June 2019 the site has limited toilets / Showers as major refurbishment is underway and due for completion for start of July.

This reviewer commented upon the facilities undergoing works, we only had 3 campers on site and there was another 2 toilets/showers in operation.

Unfortunately, this was unlucky with the really bad wet weather and clearly not happy, not helped by getting 'soggy feet' from the grass which to be fair was longer than normal as it's difficult to cut grass in the rain!

The grass is now cut like a bowling green & newly tiled toilets/showers - New photos will be added.

Regards Ray 'Owner'

Our first visit to this site, which we chose largely based on reviews on this page.

For our 1st day there, we share the large 8 pitch tent field with only 1 other couple, so had a great choice of pitches. All tent pitches were generous sized and included a picnic bench. Water taps, and EHU's are close to pitches.

Facilities were good, and clearly regularly serviced.

The dedicated dog walking meadow was extremely useful, as was the well stocked sensibly priced site shop. The fishing lake seemed very popular with the many caravan visitors.

This was a very quiet site while we were there - midweek, outside of school hols - which was our perfect last camp of the season.

Lots of space and a peaceful relaxing few days spent in orchard over August bank holiday weekend.

We enjoyed walking our dog round the site and pleasant walks into Saxmundham and Carlton.

Ray is very accommodating.
