This is our second visit and we love this place. Great for us as we like to tour and this is a fabulous pitch up and do site. With plenty of walks on the doorstep, if you don't want to drive once pitched you don't have to.
The camping field is immaculate, as are the facilities. Whilst the field is large the owners don't take too many at any given time so you get so much to yourself.
For those who like a little more, the serviced pitches with your own tap and electric hookup are a treat.
The honesty box caravan shop is awesome stocking everything you need that you may have forgotten and plenty to keep the kids entertained. via mobile
IVY HALL FARM - Bowes, DL12 9LL. Dog Friendly. £20pn for EHU. £15pn for non-EHU.
Beautiful surroundings. It really feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, even though you're only a short distance from the A66, in the village of Bowes - just a few miles away from Barnard castle. Free Range chickens casually strolling around the site, which was lovely to see. There are also resident pigs and sheep.
The village centre of Bowes is a 5-10 minute walk from the site. Every other Wednesday there is a fish and chip van outside the village hall which serves delicious food! We didn't visit any local pubs etc, although there is a coffee shop and pub within 5 minutes if the site. Barnard castle is a 10-15 minute drive from Bowes, on a direct route, if you wish to visit there for the day.
Before arriving on site I asked about pitch sizes. They are 10m wide * 12m long, although the owner did say if you needed to come out further into the field that would be OK. The EHU pitches (there's 4 or 5) are clearly marked as there are little hedges between each. The non EHU pitches span the outer perimeter of the camping field.
The owners were very friendly and helpful in correspondence prior to booking, however they were away during our stay (another camper said they were involved with the Scouts and were away with them). The owner's parents were the there to greet us and answer any questions we had.
The camping field is a nice size, with a small children's play area to the left, and the EHU pitches to the right. The non EHU pitches are at the far end of the field and go around the perimeter anti-clockwise.
There are drinking water taps spread out along the back of the EHU pitches along with a drinking water tap at the facilities point.
The owners encourage recycling and there are separate bins for different types of recycling, along with a general waste bin, and metal bin for any fire ash and coals. There is a dish cleaning area, a chemical toilet disposal point, a grey water disposal point, and the aforementioned drinking water tap.
There is a lovely walk immediately adjacent to the bottom of the field, in one direction it takes you to Bowes castle, and the other takes you to Mill Force waterfall and the River Greta.
There is a lovely "Honesty" Caravan on site which sells a number of different items - sweets, crisps, snacks, games, DVDs, books, mosquito repellant etc and it's a lovely touch. Firewood is also available to buy, and firepits are available to fire. Above ground Barbecues and firepits are allowed and there is a paving stone in front of each pitch to allow you to site your choice safely.
This site for me is a *nearly* perfect site. The only reason I don't rate it perfect is due to the toilet and shower facilities. They are kept very clean and the shower in particular is immaculately clean. However, for 15 pitches, there are only 2 toilets and 1 shower in the same block. And due to Covid restrictions, it's only one pitch at a time. That meant if someone was in the loo you would have to wait your turn. Luckily for us, during our stay there was only 6 pitches in use so it was less of an issue (a few of us had our own toilets) however I'd imagine at peak season, when all pitches are taken, I could see it become a bit of an issue.
The A66 is only a short distance away from the site, and you can hear traffic noise, however it isn't in anyway intrusive and after a short while you don't notice it at all.
Both hubby and I agree it's a beautiful site, and we'd consider staying again. via mobile
This is our third attempt to visit ivy hall and finally 3 years on managed to get here.
Wow, what a view! Rolling countryside as far as the eye can see, Bowes castle in the back ground and maybe 10 mins walk from the site. Very clean facilities with free shower.
Elsan, grey waste and of course plenty of fresh water points scattered around the site. Very reasonable price too.
Overall it’s a lovely quiet friendly pace and good to use as a base to visit the area around.
We loved out time here and will definitely be booking again to come back, and soon.
A small quiet touring park sitting alongside the River Wear, in a central location for for visiting all the attractions County Durham has to offer. 21 hardstandings and 1 grass pitch all with electric points, for caravans and motorhomes. Shower and Toilet Block and accessible / family shower room. Washing up area. Fresh water point, waste water point, chemical disposal point.
All the facilities of Wolsingham town are within easy walking distance. On site caravan accessory and awning shop and caravan workshop! Dogs are very welcome and there are many walks directly from the site, and it's five minutes to lovely riverside walks. Find out more here
Excellent grassed area well drained, & maintained small slide and swings for children. Grassed area backs onto public footpath through turn gate over a field that leads you to a castle ruins worth a look.
Also a short cut to the unicorn public house / hotel… good meal there fair price too, but only downside is £4. 50 a pint.
There’s one large shower and two toilets quite adequate… Also an old caravan as a honesty shop. Fresh eggs off the farm chickens, they don’t bother you as long as you do NOT feed them….
Our motorhome tows a small car, so plenty of places to visit, Rayby castle worth a visit a lived in castle not old ruins… also High Force / Low force waterfalls worth a view…
Towns close by Durham, Richmond and Bishop Auckland…. Just a nice area to be…
The site has a very quaint caravan which they use as an honesty shop selling their own free range eggs, sweets, logs, pop, crisps etc all at very reasonable prices.
