Just returned from a lovely weekend on this site (shame the sun didn't come out). Pitches were a good size with picnic tables which you could use, toilets and showers lovely and clean. Staff were very friendly. Visited the Fox Inn for dinner one evening, lovely walk there from the campsite and very good food and service, take a torch for returning as its very dark.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would return here again.
We stayed at the camp site this weekend with our twins club friends and had a fantastic bank holiday camping. Great pitch, good facilities that were clean and of a good standard, friendly and helpful staff. You can have a fire at the site via the fire pits provided which was fantastic and the kids loved roasting marshmallows whilst we sat round later chatting until the wee small hours. Fantastic site and will now be a favourite of ours.
For our first outing with our new rig, we wanted peace and quiet and a beautiful location not far from the main route. Steadings Park was perfect. So peaceful and everyone said hello and was obviously also looking for a pretty and quiet rural location too. We highly recommend this site. We are a party of 2 adults and 2 children and loved it here. The owners are so friendly and really helpful. The plots are a great size and you just could not fault the site cleanliness or the facilities.
Great site. The owners were great hosts, they were very helpful and accommodating to our every need during our stay. Thoroughly recommend this site and looking forward to our return later this year.
Lovely campsite with very friendly and helpful owners. Great facilities - the toilet block and showers were always immaculate and with a constant supply of hot water. There is a laundry room where the facilities are free - we didn't use it ourselves but it was great to know it was there if we needed it. There was a good mixture of adults only and families when we visited. Newbourne is a lovely village and The Fox pub nearby is recommended - great food and nice staff. It's a 10 mins walk through the nature reserve at the back of the field. Site is a good location for exploring the best of Suffolk. Hope to visit again soon!
We decided to take a break from our usual October campsite and visit Steadings park as it seemed to tick all the boxes.
We made a group booking and told the site that there would be seven units, all tents/trailer tents. They told us that it was no problem, the main part of the site was virtually full and we would all be pitched together on the field at the back of the site where we could have real on-the-ground fires and all be pitched together. Sounded perfect :-)
On arrival we were quickly checked in and shown to where we would all be pitched, I was concerned immediately by the close proximity of our tents to each other and was a little miffed when the last family arrived and were told to pitch in the main field (which for the record wasn't even half full) away from the rest of the group, this proved difficult as they have a baby and couldn't mingle with the rest of us as they weren't happy about leaving him in the tent on his own sleeping whilst they came over to us.
The site is nicely laid out in different camping areas and has a small play area near the entrance. The pitches we were on were very exposed and in an elevated position so quite windy but nice and flat, we were concerned about the amount of hook-up leads being plugged into one outlet but were told that it was safe??!
There was a pretty long walk to the toilets from where we were and we found it quite strange that in October, the newly refurbished, modern facilities had no heating! we even asked the site staff if they could switch it on but in the end avoided the showers as it was just too cold to stand when getting out!
The walk from the site to the pub (the fox inn) which is highly recommended is great fun in the dark and the kids thought it was a real adventure. Lots to do in the surrounding area and the site itself is pretty quiet and picturesque.
Unfortunately, I didn't find that this site lived up to the hype, which is a real shame, The staff were not very friendly (especially towards the children) and it is the only site I have been on where I have felt that caravanner's are treated as priority over campers, we really did feel that we were being shoved out of the way!
We all presumed that as it was a group booking, the site staff thought we might be a rowdy bunch (we we most certainly are not) and decided to keep us out of the way, this in effect, has made us to decide not to visit the site again in the future which is a real shame as it had huge potential.
Management response: We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay but would recommend that in future you raise your concerns when on site not six months later on the internet - this way we can do our best to remedy. However as you've chosen to use public forum I will do my best to address the points you make :
Pitch sizes - we operate 11m per unit wide pitches which are larger than most sites - when you called to book we advised you we only had a five tent group pitch available as the remainder of the field that you asked to be in was already booked out and paid for by another large group, you subsequently sent one of your group to site to view the pitch before booking - so I don't really understand why having pre inspected the area you are then complaining. The sixth member of your group booked at a later date and we advised you and them at the time they would not be able to be pitched with you due to our spacing rules & pitch distance fire regs. Upon arrival they insisted there was sufficient room for them (interesting given that you now say it was crowded with five units !), they repeatedly asked to pitch with you but this was not allowed as it would have breached the fire regs. We did however move people around to give them a pitch as near to you as we could.
We welcome tents caravans and motorhomes and regard all equally, the field you asked to be in is specifically reserved for tents and groups as it is the safest area for campfires and with great views and three acres of open spare space its perfect for groups and children to play in - ironically it's our most popular field and we don't normally allow caravans in this area much to the disgust of many caravaners !
Electric Hookup - all our tent pitches are served by 8amp supplies that are split from a single 16amp safety fused socket which is perfectly normal. We did lend you extension leads as your own leads weren't long enough to reach but again this is standard and perfectly safe practice.
Amenity block heating - our new amenity block does have heating but as we explained to you at the time it was still being commissioned and was awaiting certification approval from Ofgen prior to us being able to switch it on. - I am pleased to say that our amenity block is now heated when the weather is suitably cold.
Staff Friendliness - we are a small family run site and pride ourselves on our friendliness to both adults and children alike (as is affirmed in the numerous other reviews) - as I recall we repeatedly had to ask you to supervise your children as they were pulling trees from the local nature reserve and playing with the campfire - which is very clearly not acceptable - I then personally had to speak to your children several times and yes when it got to the third time of asking them the same thing I was as you would expect polite but to the point.
As a group you will know that a decreasing number of sites allow group bookings and even less allow campfires, we welcome both and have hundreds of happy customers throughout the year but this is reliant on people supervising their children and respecting campsite rules and their fellow campers.
My husband and I and our 14 year old son recently spent a very pleasant 4 day stay in the 'Lodge' at this site.
The Lodge itself was large, light and spacious and, due to the fact it has double glazing and iscentral heated, was beautifully warm in the chilly late August mornings and evenings.
Being in a static caravan we did not need to use the toilet block, but they were clean and well kept.
The site is nice and quite; great for walkers and dog owners and has many historical sites to visit locally. (Sutton Hoo a must for those with an archaeological bent!)
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful; efficient without being officious.
We booked for 5 nights and decided to stay for a 6th when there as we enjoyed it so much. We would have stayed longer if the kids hadn’t been due back at school.
Our tent is large so we booked an extra large pitch and we’re given half the length of a field! Brilliant! Our friends came along also and we put up a gazebo between us at no extra charge. No charge for dogs either, how rare is that?
There are a number of picnic benches that you are free to take and use during your stay which was very handy.
The field we stayed in is the smaller tent field, nearest to the toilets and is very sheltered from the wind. This field allows fire pits which you can hire if you don’t have your own. Logs are available to buy on site. It was lovely to sit around at night and toast marshmallows.
There are 3 other fields - a larger field, an adult only field and the valley view field at the bottom of the park with open fires allowed. This field had lovely views and you can watch the sunset.
The play park is small but our children aged 6 and 3 loved it. The owners are planning on providing a larger playground in the future. It opens at 9am and shuts at 8pm which everyone adhered to.
No noise after 11pm but the site was lovely and quiet after about 10pm with people just sitting out and chatting.
There is a small shop on site which sells the basics and a laundry room with a washing machine which was a godsend at 2am when one of our children had an accident and I needed to wash the bedding! There is also the use of a fridge and freezer – FREE! No silly charging to freeze an ice block.
The toilet block is new with 4 sinks, 4 toilets and 2 showers. The showers are not timed and no push buttons either! Just a nice hot shower for as long as you’d like. I would have liked a privacy cubicle on at least 1 sink as I like to wash in private and I also don’t like shower curtains as they stick to you when showering but these are minor minor niggles and would in no way stop me returning.
There are 3 washing up sinks under a canopy to keep you dry if necessary.
There are chickens on site which the kids loved visiting.
A lovely 10 minute walk through the neighbouring nature reserve brings you to the local pub which is very picturesque and just up from there is a large playground for the kids to use.
Wifi is available at £2 per day, what a bargain compared to other sites that charge that for 20 minutes!
The owners and wardens are always around and are really nice, they popped to chat to us one night to check how we’d got on which was thoughtful. It’s a personal site which you can feel is important to them.
Locally there are lovely places to visit, Felixstowe itself and Old Felixstowe with the foot ferry to Bawdsey and crabbing from the little pier. Aldeburgh is about a 40 minute drive and it’s a beautiful town with the best fish and chips! Look it up on Google!
Watching the cargo come in and out at Landguard Point is interesting but don’t go swimming at Felixstowe Leisure Centre, it is grotty!
Basically, if you would like a nice, clean, well maintained and quiet site, where they don't add on stupid charges for everything they can think of, this is for you.
Friendly site close enough to Ipswich and Felixstowe for day trips, the site is very well laid out with enough room to spead out between pitches, we toured with two caravans and Three cars, and still had plenty of room,
The showers and toilets were exceptionally clean and the staff were very friendly,
When we tried to use the wifi and had problems connecting they sorted it very quickly and made sure everything was working well,
We visit ipswich every year for the National Association of Street Clubs Show at Trinity Park and decided to spend a few days after exploring the area, Steadings was the ideal venue to do this and I'm sure we'll be staying again next year.
I can only agree with everyone, this site is a gem, I think in this Olympic Year it should receive the gold medal. We were in the small, secluded, sheltered, flat tent field. Although small it was not crowded, I think it only takes 8 tents. It was very friendly. The shelter was superb having had two very wet and windy weeks previously in other parts of the country. It was surprising to walk out of the field to realise at times there was quite a wind blowing.
The 2nd tent field with fire pits was more exposed but chatting at the washing up the people on that field said it wasn't bad, and the views are beatiful.
There was always hot water and the toilet block and washing up areas were always clean.
When we arrived we were shown all the facilities and shown to our pitch, and our guide made sure we were happy with the pitch before he left (we were).
Although the little shop closes at five the wardens are sitting outside waiting for arrivals and I went at 6pm one evening and they would have opened up for me if they had what I wanted (insect repellent).
The owners came round one evening just to chat and were very knowledgeable of the area helping us to find a cycle route for the next day.
I have been camping for many years and for me this has got to be my number 1 site.
What a great campsite - one of the best I have been to.
We visited on bank holiday weekend and were positioned in the tent field near the play area, which was ideal for us with a 3 year old as part of our party.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful, the pitches spacious and the facilities are the best I have seen. A modern clean shower and wash block, use of fridge/freezer and plenty of washing up space.
A 15 minute walk to the Fox at Newbourne is worth it, especially as you walk through the nature reserve to get there.
It's in a great location to explore the Suffolk coast, highly recommended
We arrived midweek and were greeted by friendly & helpful staff.
We were shown to our two pitches (one with electric hook up) and they were really spacious, easily accommodating our two tents and cars. There were two picnic benches provided in our field and we were able to 'nab' one which was really useful.
The toilet/shower block was pristine and provided lovely hot showers. There was a large washing up area with 3 large sinks and a laundry room also with fridge/freezer available to use. There were great recycling facilities, too.
Foot & cycle paths leading from the site were pointed out to us & we walked and cycled to the pretty local pub, The Fox.
Tesco at Martlesham is up the road so handy for forgotten shopping and there is also an on site shop.
We were fantastically lucky with the weather which was gloriously hot, an unexpected bonus.
The only slight gripe we had was the noise (and sometimes, smells) that came from a vehicle workshop behind the hedge next to our pitches - the site staff did mention it & it wasn't continuous, but it did spoil the tranquillity of lazing & reading outside the tent, particularly the overenthusiastic but out of tune singing, bless! This all stopped at 5. 30pm & I guess it doesn't occur at weekends, so it was no big deal really.
Despite this small annoyance, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.
NB. Its worth checking in the paper recycling bins as we found a great little map someone had discarded which provided us with all the routes for cycling and walking around the area!
This was our first camping trip; found this site using the site finder on this site.
When we booked, found staff friendly and helpful on the phone - they explained that they only had one pitch left in with the touring caravans but there were other tents in with us. The site is easy to find being just off the A12 but still felt very rural.
Plenty of room for our Icarus 600 with canopy, good sheltered pitch, we were led to our site by one of the staff who made sure we were OK and we knew where everything was.
The site was clean and tidy and well laid out - not too far to walk to the facilities. Clean toilets which smelt fresh also (did not have that nasty public loo pong!), wash up sinks also well maintained, always hot water and only had to wait a couple of mins Sunday morn for the shower.
Site is well suited for families with a small play area and a field to play ball games. Our 5 and 3 yr old found things to do and the eldest met some new friend's from the two pitches next to us. The site feels safe and is secure with staff living on site.
We really liked the fact that ball games around the tents are not allowed, no chance of an errant football crashing into you, the tent or the car! The ball field is only a two min walk away with plenty of space.
A good mix of age groups on the site and not noisy. The owners evicted a group from the site sat eve so they are happy to step in if needed. There always seemed to be somebody on hand in the background if you needed help.
If I had to make a recommendation for improvement, I would go for a larger kiddies play area but that is really about it - you will have a great time should you visit!
Went to the Suffolk Punch Trust and the beach both worth a visit. Ate in the Fox Public house of Sat eve. Food was fine though nothing special.
In short, the site is a credit to the owners and we will definitely be going back some time soon. Lots to do in the area.
We have camped at Steadings twice this year and have thoroughly enjoyed both visits.
It's a small quiet site in a rural location, facilities are limited but the toilet block is modern and spotlessly clean, and the on-site shop stocks the usual essentials. The proprietors are friendly and helpful.
There is a small playground for younger children and lots of room for games on the rough grass of the Overflow Field.
The adjacent 'Newbourne Springs' nature reserve is a real delight, with a network of footpaths through a surprising variety of habitat.
Excellent food and beer is available at 'The Fox'; a pleasant 15 minute walk away along the edge of the nature reserve.
For a real treat book a pitch in the 'Valley View' field with an open fire and enjoy an evening with the owls.
