Had a really good stay our first motor home experience the site was lovely and really well kept. A bit off the beaten track for us as we use buses, the walk to the bus stop was quite a fair distance away. All the facilities on site were really good all in all a good first foray into camping. The site was very family friendly. We struggled a bit to find places to walk to with the dog, pavements were non existent.
We had a super pitch so had extra pitch, electric, water, grey waste and TV point. I felt the pitch size was a bit on the small size seeing it was a super pitch. Make sure you take a long grey waste pipe and water pipe as some people had to buy extra pipe from the site shop. The site grass was pristine, just like a bowling green, excellent drainage. The swimming pool was maintained well with sunbeds and a lifeguard. Does close for an hour at lunch time, you cant use inflatables which they sell in the shop in the pool! A small play area really only suitable for under 6. Good well stocked shop for anything you have forgotten. Washers and driers on site. The only thing we found was a real pain was that it was key entry on the toilet/shower block, so if you left the key in the van then went to the pool then needed the shower, you had to walk back to your van before returning to the block, we felt it didn't really warrant key entry as it wasn't a big site. This was a nice quiet, clean site.
As we book all our camping holidays based around reviews on this site, I had to review Scratby Hall. We (2 adults and 2 children 6 & 3 yrs)have just spent a lovely week here despite the cold windy 'summer'! On arrival we were given a very friendly welcome and told to pitch in the rally field, ideal for us as no marked pitch so you could spread out on the flat lovely short grass. The main field seemed full up and quite cramped so we were happy to be in the field. If you have children I would suggest this is the best area. We were able to stay at our tent whilst the girls spent most of the week in the playground making friends where most of the time we could still see them. There is also an area for ball games although the middle of the field was also used. Most people quietened down by 10pm so no issues with noise, except the usual dawn chorus and hundreds of crows roosting every night at 9pm!
The swimming pool is open 10-1pm and 2-5pm although we were not brave enough to try it but many did and it looked very nice. The shop was very well stocked and will refreeze ice blocks at 20p and 40p depending on size. Bricks available for BBQs.
The toilet block in the rally field was very clean with 7 toilets and 3 showers, no queuing at anytime, stool for children. You have to have a key to get in though which you get on arrival with £5 deposit. Slightly annoying when you get there and have forgotten the key! Showers were the only disappointment as very small area especially if you are trying to clean children. There is also oddly no temperature control and the water was far too hot for me let alone them. A fellow camper told me on my last night that reception have a baby bath that she borrowed to bathe her two children in of a similar age, so you may want to bear that in mind.
We crammed so much in during the week - Horsey Windmill, Happisburgh Lighthouse, lots of boardwalks in the broads, lovely town of Southwold, saw seals at Horsey Gap, rockpooling Cromer, climbing to the top of Ranworth church tower were amongst many highlights.
Overall a fantastic site and we will definitely come back with the sunshine!
This site is situated in a beautiful part of the country. Excellent walks/beech/scenery/villages in the surrounding area. The site itself is small with a shop that sells everything. The children loved the pool, but this did get very busy because of the summer holidays. The toilets are cleaned early morning. However, by 10. 00 am during this busy time the toilets were blocked, toilet paper on floor, etc. The showers are push button and not great after about 10. 00 am as they begin to run cold. There is a children's play area and also an area (under the trees within the tent field) for children to play ball games. The super pitches are excellent but our standard pitch was a little more cramped. Would def. Upgrade. Lovely dog walks close by. Site do not provide any dog bins though and are not keen on dogs being walked on site.
Just returned from Scratby Hall after a week with 3 young grandchildren. Thank heavens for the swimming pool (with lifeguard), the play area, and good weather! Site is very family welcoming with good facilities and regularly cleaned. The site shop is well stocked, and priced like a supermarket, very reasonable. There are a host of tourist attractions within an easy drive. For dog owners, there are good walks from the site, but the beach at Gt Yarmouth is out of bounds during the season. They are welcome at Scratby, Hemsby, Winterton and Horsey, where you can see the seals close to the beach. Would certainly use this site again, but some observations:
There are no dog waste bins
Better recycle facilities
Consider a different toilet tissue dispenser that youngsters could manage better and avoid all the torn bits littering the toilet floor.
For the security conscious, there is no barrier/gate to the site and the reception closes at 9pm with no wardens resident
I have just signed up as a member of UK Campsite, as in 3 years of caravanning, this is the first site I have felt justifies some worthy comments.
What a site! Well laid out, with spacious pitches. You don't feel like you can reach out of your window and push the dew off next doors car windows! We had a Super Pitch with water, water waste disposal point, electric and TV connection.
The site has a children's play area and I believe in the summer holidays, the outdoor swimming pool is open. The grounds are kept immaculately and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The is no huge list of site rules, which made for a very relaxing break. It has May half-term week when we went and although it was busy, it was not packed.
The facilities are spotlessly clean and the shop and reception are open very late into the evening. The site is situated on a country lane with very few passing vehicles, so it is extremely peaceful.
There is a dog exercise area outside of the site, running around the perimeter. The area in general welcomes dogs and ours had a very busy time travelling on the Bure Valley Railway and Broad Tours. Based on this visit, I would thoroughly recommend this site.
I was looking to get away with the family for the first camping trip of the year, and with the Royal Wedding creating an extra bank holiday it made sense to enjoy the recent good weather.
I telephoned only seven days before we wanted to go and was told that they were virtually fully booked as our large motorhome required a 'super pitch'. However the lady kindly said that they would see what they could do and less than 10 mins later I was called back to say that they had juggled things round and arranged a suitable pitch for us.
This obviously created a good impression and the three nights we have just spent at Scratby Hall reaffirmed my first thoughts. The pitch we had was spacious and as it included electric, waste & tv aerial it was a bargain for only £21 a night.
The showers and toilet block were clean and perfectly adequate and in good number for a smallish site. The grass was immaculate despite the lack of rain recently and everything about this site sets a good standard.
We had friends visiting one day and they were also impressed, as within a couple of hours of being there they had booked up to spend a weekend there with us later next month!
It is safe to assume that Scratby is now on our favourites list for a number of reasons,and not forgetting the fantastic on-site shop which is reminiscent of Arkwrights in Open All Hours and is an absolute joy!
We stayed at this site for our 2 week holiday. The pitches are a good size. The pool is open for 2 sessions during august/end july as they have a lifeguard.
The shop is like an alladins cave which seems to stock everything that us campers need (if you can't see it then just ask) the shop also recharges batteries at a fee.
The showers and toilets were fine and plenty of them. A nice indoor washing up room. The site is well situated for both the coast lovers and the country lovers.
I think you do need transport to be able to get about as the nearest bus stop is a 10 minute walk and is every half hour, a 15 minute walk will bring you to a beach just behind the holiday chalets at scratby.
Visited this campsite over a long Bank Holiday weekend. Really nicely laid out, with a swimming pool, children's play area. Site shop (which stocked all you've forgotten !) and clean shower block(s).
Found the second block on the second day !. This having been my third camping break, having just taken it up, I will definitely be going back. Also a great place to base yourself for exploring Norfolk.
Just spent two weeks at this site and what a great family run site it is.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful, the plots are a nice large size giving more room that you could wish for, the washrooms are large and very clean, the site is nice and level, there is a on site shop and I have to say that its the cheapest camp site shop that I have ever come across, there is also a post office/shop half a mile away with the shop part open till midnight 7 days a week the camp site has a quite time from 10pm and no noise at all from 11pm.
Now for the bad points (if you can call them bad points), the on site shop sells swimming aids but check that you can use them in the pool before spending money as they don,t allow some of them to be used (but on a good note they do have a on site lifeguard), you need a key to use the toilets and washroom and its a pain as they only give out one key per pitch which means that you have to leave it in the tent for all your family to use which means you have to go back to your tent to get it if you need to go (it would be better if they used a code system), there is six washing up sinks to cover the whole site, if you go after you have eaten then you have to wait in line, if your at the back of that line then expect to wash up in cold water.
As someone has already written the showers could be better, they are push button and it gives you between a minute and two minutes of water between each push before you have to press it again, the photo on the website of the park is not the park that is on the site, I don,t know know if they have changed the park since that photo was taken but its not the same (the park which is on site is not as good as the photo)
If you get pitched around plot 34 beware of the earwigs, we was over run with them.
We will return to this site without a doubt, but would like to be between the reception and the shop away from the trees
What a tremendous site. We have been going to this site for at least the last 15 years. The owners are very friendly and helpful. There is a lot of space between pitches so you don't feel hemmed in.
The camping site is well maintained with a lovely relaxing atmosphere except that the early morning crow/pigeons chorus from the trees surrounding the site can be a bit loud if you are in a tent.
The camp shop seems to sell everything you will ever need, they will charge your batteries or fridge blocks for you.
The toilets and showers are basic but adequate, though handing out only one key for each family can be a bit of a pain, having to wait for one member to return or accompany them to the door so you can borrow the key.
The site is ideally situated for access to Yarmouth or the Broads and the rest of Norfolk/Suffolk, so is great to use as a base for exploring.
Across the road is a small supermarket which is open until midnight if you forget anything.
All in all a basic 'no frills' site, no nightclub or anything along those lines. But if relaxing and exploring with the family is what you are after, then you really cannot do much better than this.
Lovely site with excellent, clean and well maintained facilities. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. All the pitches were level although I felt a little too close to each other on the rally field but it was August and only a very minor criticism. The nicest surprise was the lovely outdoor pool was heated so despite not the hottest of weeks our children managed to swim every day.
The surrounding area is very nice but I would recommend to avoid Scratby beach which was not the nicest. We visited Sea Palling which was a beautiful sandy beach and only a 15 minute drive North although Winterton beach is much closer but not quite as nice. Southwold was also an excellent place to visit and only 45 minutes away.
There is a well stocked shop on site and laundry facilities. An excellent pizza shop in nearby Helmsby which delivers to the site if you (like us) couldn't be bothered to cook one night. The Bridge Inn in Acle is great food and child friendly.
I would avoid Great Yarmouth at all costs both to visit and to drive through!
Just back from an 8 night stay and can say without a doubt that this is a very well looked after site. Very clean and tidy. The ground is flat and drains very well (rained most of the time we were there). Also the ground was a bit on the hard side (bent a few pegs and were a bugger to get out).
The shower and toilets were clean. Two small quibles about them; 1. Hand dryer was on its last legs. 2. Showers don't stay on long enough with the push button system. The shop is well stocked. Needed a few essentials whilst I was there
As always their are a certain minority that think rules don't apply to them and that child supervision isn't on the list of priorities for certain families. I suppose the site could benefit from a warden. Still I enjoyed my stay there and would like to visit again.

The site was very clean and staff very friendly and helpful at all times there was someone there to help if needed the swimming pool was also attended by a life guard all times it was open
Shower and toilet blocks were clean and warm
Childrens play area was also good
The shop had all that you needed even down to dog chews and extras prices were very reasonable over all we would give ten out of ten we will be going there again
This site must be amongst our top 5 ever! Lovely quiet sheltered location, level pitches, loads of toilets & showers which were cleaned daily (bit disappointed with the behaviour of some of our fellow campers who didn't get the 'leave it as you'd wish to find it' idea), little shop for food, camping essentials & other stuff. Lovely staff, well-organised and sensible rules like 'dogs on a lead.' Marked pitches so you know how much room you've got!
Not sure how it would drain if it did ever rain?
And don't take anything yellow or lime-green with you. We got swarms of little black flies on my friend's lime green tent, but they didn't bite; they were just annoying, and they disappeared once we covered the green up with a sheet!
Try the Bridge at Acle for good pub food and good beer in a lovely riverside location (very busy on the weekend - be prepared for a long wait)and go to Fairhaven water gardens for peaceful strolling & wildlife and a lovely cafe.
We liked the beaches at Winterton (with cafe & toilets)and Horsey Gap (just the car park, no facilities).
A brilliant holiday - gutted to be back at work.
