Stayed here Whitsun week. Camp is beautifully maintained. Even though it was a busy time the site was not overcrowded and pitches were a good size.
Toilet blocks very nicely kept with plenty of hot water. Management very helpful and the shop was stocked with everything you could possibly forget to take. Would highly recommend, also only 5 miles from Great Yarmouth.
The site itself is a very well maintained site with good facilities. The washing up room was always clean and tidy and the toilets clean although they could do with putting a mop and bucket in the toilet block. The showers were hot all the time and there was never a queue.
There is a playground which my 3 and 4 year old really liked and a small well stocked/priced shop.
Would definitely re visit this site.
The area is fantastic and a few highlights are
Winterton-on-sea beach - spent 4 hours watching a seal about 5 metres from the shore
Boat on the Broads - Fineway boats very cheap and great fun.
Bewilderment - a must for families, zip wires for 5 year olds great.
We have just returned from here with our 2 children. The site was lovely to look at, and grass was great, the shop was very good and staff friendly. However, the play park had very little there, the showers were poorly designed where you have no temp control, and you have no space to dry yourself properly without getting socks and trousers wet because the shower curtains let water into drying part. They were small and impossible to shower children
You needed a key for toilets and washing up area which was a pain, and any *extras* was a charge.
The site was busy and dog friendly and if its just you and other adults its fine.
Spent the Easter bank holiday here in our Caravan, myself the wife and our 2 kids, very impressed with it. From pulling up on the Friday, very warm welcome, loads of local info given out and shown to our pitch. Generous amount of room on a well cared for field. Even though we had some rain, was boggy underfoot, but drained well. Got busy around the edge of the site, leaving the middle section free for cricket/rounders/football that all the kids seem to enjoy taking part in. Failing that, there was a play area, that looked new and dog free, also gets locked late evening to keep noise down I guess. Toilets and shower blocks are modern with push button activation on the showers and very clean indeed (need a key though which is obtained from reception for refundable £5 deposit). On site shop is very well stocked, seemed too much stuff on the inside for its outward appearance.
Site is very well situated, GT Yarmouth is only 5 miles down the road, Hembsy is only a mile, with a small funfair and amusements and all the takeaways you can eat. My only (small) gripe about this site is the fact the the power points didn't have their own trip switches, you have two outlets in case one goes, but I think our kettle was on its last legs and kept blowing the 10amp feed in, which meant a trip to reception, but top marks for the prompt response and friendly manner in which must be a very frustrating job. Would I go again, with out a doubt. Nice work Scratby Hall, Ill see you again soon
Myself, wife and one child are new to camping, this was our second trip. This campsite offered it all, very friendly and could not do more for us. The staff was always there to help the new camper. The toilet / shower block was always clean and with so many could always get in for a hot shower. The pool closed on some days due to rain but was a well maintained pool with seating around. The play area was good with a hedge around we could not hear any noise from it. Plenty of space around the tent. Could have done with a beer but the people on site were happy to ask anyone over for a quiet drink. If I went back camping in Yarmouth I would go to this site again. Because I'm new to it I want to try different places next trip is Cornwall
Just spent 5 days in Scratby with excellent weather. Top marks to this site for the following: well mown grass, like walking on a carpet. The site is well sheltered from the elements, being surrounded by trees on all sides. Also very flat. Was fun watching hundreds of crows come in to roost each dusk, as well as spotting bats, dragonflies and hearing owls.
Shop is open til 9pm, very handy for last minute supplies and swapping ice packs after a long day. Good location - 20 min walk to Scratby beach which is a lovely sandy beach and not too crowded. Local mini supermarket is open till midnight, and has postbox for postcards. Not far to drive to Yarmouth itself.
Negative marks though for the toilet block - disappointing given the overall standard on the site. No temperature control on the shower - too hot for me and would be very hot for kids. No chair or many hooks to put your clothes on. Bugs everywhere, not particularly clean toilet cubicles, no heating as far as I could tell and rubbish toilet paper. However, at least it had toilet paper, hot water and soap, so it was better than some. Would go again.
We've not long come back from this site on a rally & we thought it were ok. I think the toilet block could've been a bit cleaner, showers were basic but did the job, apart from that no real complaints. The shop on site was pretty reasonable even selling a limited amount of camping spares, which was handy as a few of my rubber peg hoops on my awning had perished & needed replacing. B each was around a mile down the road which we did walk down to on one occasion & wasn't a problem although crossing the main road was a bit hairy. Overall though not a bad place to be if you've got kids. I will probably be back there again sometime next year.
Have to say this site is every thing that everyone says. We stayed on the rally field, but still had the use of showers and toilets which we found fine. It was a bonus to have the use of the swimming pool. The shop on site was well stocked. We will use this site again. We went in to Gt Yarmouth on Wednesday evening to see the fireworks that are every Wednesday during the summer holidays.
Just returned from a fantastic 12 days here. The caravan / electric pitches are of a decent size. Our pitch benefited from a tap and TV aerial point. All pitches are level. The ground drained away fantastically after some very heavy rain.
Our kids (5 and 15) loved the pool, the play area is a little small but fun can be made anywhere.
Toilet facilities were good,(as mentioned the showers are timed and the cubicles on the small side.)
The owners/staff are very friendly and helpful.
The beach at scratby is OK, Hemsbey 1.5 miles away better, Great Yarmouth beaches good, but. Travel the 7 miles to a small place 'Sea Palling' for a fantastic long sandy Blue Flag beach. The perfect english beach!
All in all fantastic place, will definitely go again.
Just arrived back from four days testing our new tent at this park. Very impressed with the whole experience. On arrival I was handed a pile of leaflets including menus for local takeaways that deliver (I confess we used one.)and a black bin bag with instructions that 'our rubbish went in there'. Rather than feeling regimented, this gave me reassurance that we were at a well-run site, and the wonderful cleanliness and tidiness of the place confirmed that. We were led to out pitch, marked by a post, and told exactly where to pitch in relation to said post - a system which actually meant that everyone had the maximum space around them. We were instructed that in order to save the grass, if we wanted to use a portable barbecue we were to ask for some bricks to stand it on, which many campers had done, thus ensuring the quality of the pitches for the next users.
The toilet blocks were adequate, with men and women having separate blocks and a third block for washing up and food preparation, although it only had six sinks and there could be a bit of a queue. The toilets were accessible with use of a key which you have to pay a £5 deposit for (returnable on departure). This seemed a bit unnecessary, as the door was often left open, and the toilets were hardly going to be abused by passing travellers.
The swimming pool was ok, although some of the mosaic tiles had come off around the top of the inner side, and the term 'heated' was a bit dubious, but the pool seemed clean enough and we used it every day.
The site shop is smaller than you would expect from the website, and you would be best to stock up at the Tesco in Caister, and please note that it doesn't sell alcohol! I spent one very dry evening.
There is a launderette, although we didn't use it, and the games room is only a few electronic gaming machines, but my kids preferred the swimming pool anyway. The children's play area is quite small, containing a relatively small climbing frame set-up, but that is brand new.
We didn't have an electric hook-up, so I can't comment, but the water taps were well-sorted, with no soggy areas around them, and lighting at night was good.
My only slight moan is that the track around the edge of the site was concreted once, but now has some pretty big pot-holes. Be careful.
All-in-all, a fantastic site and we will definitely use it as our base for staying in that area.
Have just come back from a three night stay on this site and have to say we thought it was fantastic. The pitch we had was close to all the facilities. The shower block was very clean. The shop was well stocked with everything you needed. The kids aged 7 and 4 loved the outdoor pool and the play area even though it was only small. Would definitely recommend this site.
When we arrived at site we were greeted by friendly owner and shown to our pitch. A very well maintained site. We were situated right next to children's play area (very noisy at certain times, but locked up from about 9pm). My kids had a great time in it.
Shop was fantastic, it had a little bit of everything, food, accessories, toys.
The toilet block was clean with plenty of toilets and showers(never a queue). Didn't use the washing machines(£2.70 a wash). Tumble driers were 20p. They even had hair driers you could borrow from reception-free of charge!
The swimming pool was great. Open in the morning, closed for an hour over lunch then open again untill 5pm. There was a life guard on duty and a few loungers round the pool. Very sheltered as surrounded by a conifer hedge.
Great base to explore surrounding area either by car, bike or on foot. Pleasurewood Hills is about 40 min drive. Tesco and Lidl in Caister a 5 min drive. Beaches only a short car ride. We cycled and it only took 10 mins. Steep steps down to beach at Scratby so not ideal for buggies or wheelchairs. Beaches get better the nearer to Great Yarmouth you get.
Just returned from a 2 week stay at Scratby Hall, we loved the site, toilet blocks were clean, shop was great, staff polite, weather was great, couldn't have asked for a better stay.Only downside was some inconsiderate people who think noise rules do not apply to them!. Pool was open which kept our sons occupied too.
Recently stayed here for four nights. On arrival the reception allocated us our pitch, which are all clearly marked and we left our £5 deposit for the toilet block key. The toilet/shower block was modern and cleaned daily although it soon got littered with toilet paper from the dispensors as mentioned by others and the hand dryers were pretty useless. The shower cubicles weren't the biggest so don't put anything on the floor or it will get wet and the push button only gives about twenty seconds of hot water, although it must be said it was piping hot, too hot for my liking but lovely for the missus who has asbestos skin.
The shop is well stocked with everything and reasonably priced as well. There is also a games room and laundarette though I cant comment on these as we didn't use them. We did use the pool though which was in good order when we used it and the kids loved the playground. All the pitches are clearly marked though when its busy it could be a tight squeeze, fortunately when we were there we had empty pitches to the side and back. Overall Scratby Hall is pleasant well kept site well placed for beaches and attractions but away from the hustle and bustle.
