An excellent campsite, clean, tidy, well maintained with nice showers and facilities.
Very nice staff with excellent customer friendly communications. As we were tent camping, we appreciated that the ground was flat and soft enough to get the pegs in easily!
The picnic bench was also very handy!
The site is well situated with a restaurant within 5 minutes walking distance.
Just returned from a lovely 4 day break at this fantastic caravan park, with our two dogs. Although it was Mid-August (with brilliant weather), the site was lovely and quiet.
The setting is beautiful and the grounds lovingly maintained. We were the only tent on the camping field ( as we didn't require electric) and had lots of space on our pitch, which included our own wooden picnic table.
There was only one other tent that we saw on the electric pitches and the rest were mainly caravans and motor homes. The shower and toilet block were immaculate and there was a 'Covid friendly' system in place, to make sure only 2 people in the block at one time.
The wardens were very friendly and so helpful in advising us of great dog walks in the area and lent us a map so we could navigate properly!
The area is perfect for walking with, or without dogs and most start only a short drive away from the site. We were amazed at how many free parking places there were at the start of many of our walks!
South Lea Caravan Park is definitely a site we will return to and highly recommend, especially if you have dogs. The site had a fantastic dog walk, which took up nearly a whole field, with an additional enclosed area too with a bench for the humans!
Our dogs absolutely loved running free in here sniffing the trails of previous visitors and couldn't wait to get in there, even after a 12 mile walk earlier in the day!
The town of Pocklington is a few minutes drive away ( we didn't fancy walking on the grass verge alongside the road with dogs, as it was very busy) with Sainsbury's and Aldi for provisions and many takeaways that will deliver to the site also.
Beautiful tent only site set on a family run hill farm in the Yorkshire Dales, nestled between Ingleborough and Whernside. The Three Peaks footpath runs right through the farm adjacent to the campsite with lots of walks direct from the site from easy strolls to climbing the Three Peaks, and five minutes to the pub!
Tent pitches only, no electric hookups. Toilet and shower block and washing up facilities. Sit, eat and socialise in the old barn, with free wifi, charging lockers, freezer. At weekends the Philpin Snack bar is open for cooked breakfasts, hot and cold snacks and drinks, ice creams, chocolates etc, on other days there are vending machines in the barn. Find out more here
First time here, just wanted a short break at short notice. The site is lovely. First impressions are great grass well tended and pitches neat and not on top of each other.
The showers and toilets are spotless and closed twice a day for thorough cleaning. Covid friendly.
The other campers mainly seasonal were so friendly.
Will definitely be booking again but longer next time. Thanks via mobile
Very pleasant staff answering phone, money was taken by what seemed to be a resident in the adjacent field, not many pitches which added to the ambiance, the guy showed us to our pitch, took our money (£22 a night ) he was very pleasant, told us where facilities were, had a bench adjacent to pitch, not far to water, facilities dated but spotless. Even a hair dryer in the gents !
It’s all grass, a bit muddy but nowt to write home about.
A short walk through the adjacent site takes you to the Ship inn with an eclectic mix of clientele, didn’t eat there but smelled nice, bus stop outside Ship, bishopthorpe up the road for papers. Three more pubs there plus a butcher, what’s not to like ?
Would we go again. For sure, but wouldn’t follow sat nav, if coming up A64 take the turning after the ring road turnoff and go past the college and straight through bishopthorpe. via mobile
Set in the midst of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, a family run farm with a stream meandering through the site and breathtaking views, with plenty to do nearby. Tent and campervan pitches with or without electric. Five star shower block with showers, washbasins, toilets, disabled and family room. Sinks for pot washing, a kettle and microwave, charge points, communal fridge freezers. Fire pits are available to hire. Wifi
A small shop sells essentials and an on-site cafe serves delicious food and drinks! Freshly brewed coffee, sausage sandwiches, or warm pastries, in the evening, enjoy stone-baked pizzas. Luxury timber pods and two magical bell tents with private hot tubs are also available to hire. Don't forget to meet their friendly family of alpacas! And all within five minutes of Bolton Abbey and Hesketh Farm Park Find out more here
We booked this site as a stop over on our way up to Bridlington. We wanted to visit York, and the location was ideal for us travelling up from Norfolk.
Bearing in mind this was August, and we did book late, the owners were very helpful in fitting us in, although the site appeared full.
We had a nice grass pitch with hook up at one end of the site, which suited us just fine. Most of the pitches appeared to be seasonal, as many of the vans were unoccupied during our visit.
The wardens were delightful and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The whole site is neat and very well kept, we watched some gardening going on near our van, so they take pride in the site which is always good to see.
The facilities were excellent, although we do use the shower in our van rather than site showers, but it all looked immaculate to us.
The entrance is easy to negotiate if you have a large outfit, and there is a barrier for security. The location is ideal for Pocklington, and we would recommend a visit to Burnby Hall Gardens there.
A short drive takes you to one of York's Park & Ride sites for easy access to the beautiful City.
We enjoyed our stay and would certainly visit again if in the area.
Fantastic place to relax, spotless and hosts very helpful. Shower and Toilet facilities immaculate.
There is a play area for children, which has swings and other equipment, plenty of spaces for children to run about.
In walking distance to Pocklington, about a 15 mins walk, although the walk is along a grass verge and sometimes the road can be busy, not ideal if you have a young family
However there is a bus stop directly outside, which appears to be reliable, having used it a couple of times
There is also Yorkway motel about 500 yards to the left, good for meals and drinks (all you can eat breakfast and dinner and evening meals and drinks all reasonably priced if you are on a budget), families are welcome.
Overall the site is great for families and adults and well maintained.
Just spent 2 nights at this site, and wish we had found it earlier in the season, what a little gem, extremely well kept site lovely wardens and owners.
Shower and toilet block immaculate and well heated.
Walked into Pocklington not too far to go, about a mile to a mile and half. There is a bus stop just outside the site for those who don't do walking.
Will look forward to next season and many more visits here
A site we use every year and have been coming to for a number of years as its central to lots of things to do with our children.
Clean, well maintained site, well priced, good play area (not as suitable for really young children ie toddlers in my opinion) and a field for football/games.
Dog walking area with a dog shower to hose off mucky paws.
We visit Allerthorpe lake so the kids can go canoeing, paddle in the lake and a nice walk for the dog, food reasonably priced.
York Maze isn't far and a great family day out and we can take the dog.
Piglets my youngest child loves going to (no dogs) and is great day out and a very reasonable price to get in. The road to get there can have lots of queuing traffic so though not far from the site it has taken us an hour to get there in the past.
Trips on the boat on the canal on a weekend/BH Monday are free (donation), last about 30 mins these can be really busy and can only accept 12 people at a time so you may have a long wait, though there is pub on the road/path leading to the cannal trip and walks.
Pocklington is a lovely place and we have visited the gardens and fed the fish (but can't now as have a dog), but nice shops and dog friendly pubs. via mobile
