We had a lovely 4 night stay here. Pitches are a good size. We have a large Tent and after the 4 nights before our stay here where we over lapped on both sides, we had plenty of room.
Site is clean, well layed out, and very senic. Gryn Goch and the mountains 1 side and the Sea the other. Had some great sunsets during our stay. The drive down the little lane is very narrow and steep! Would hate to see a caravan coming up meeting a caravan coming down(Would advise someone to walk down and stop anything coming up if I was towing)
Showers are the only problem, lovely and clean but to far away from the main fields! Our Pitch was next to the childrens play area, had a few kids hanging around gone dark and the younger ones where there again at sunrise. Not too much of a problem. Beach is not ideal for swimming but we took a good long walk along it and the kids enjoyed looking for that special stone!
There is a games room with a pool table and TV. Laundrette on site, washers and driers.
Would recommend this to anyone visting the lovely North Wales coast. Great base to explore from.
We spent a fortnight at this site from the last week in July, 2 Adults 6 & 9 yr olds and the 'BIG' dog, And it truly is a great find ! The first worry we had was the access road after reading other reviews, We have a large outfit (21ft van and a frontera) so on seeing the gate we thought it might be tight. But although the road is single track and quite steep with a few tight bends it isn't that bad and if you watch your mirrors it is fine, you MUST send someone to the top of the drive if you are leaving whilst towing because if you meet someone there is no way you could reverse either way. Booking in is quick and easy and welcoming, There are three main pitching areas, A lower field very close to the beach which does have a few boats passing through to the slipway but the noise is very very minimal and being able to watch them being launched makes up for any slight noise made. There are two large flat areas on top of the cliff which are nice and level and ideal for tents and have great views over the beach. And some smaller areas that have some seasonal vans on them, Each pitching field has a toilet block and washing facilities plus plenty of water and waste disposal points, The main shower block and toilets are close to reception and only a 5 min walk from even the furthest pitches, Showers are 20p for 3 minutes and have a good hot jet !. The site has a games-TV room, small play area a launderette and a small site shop. The whole site is well kept and the grass was mown and better than my lawn at home. The beach although mostly shingle when the tide is in is great for swimming and when the tide is out reveals a nice sandy 'floor' with plenty of rock pools and fish. Running down the back of the site is a stream which the kids loved (even us big ones) and campfires are allowed on the beach amongst the big boulders which makes a great change from your standard BBQ. There is a shop\garage approx 1 mile away that stocks all you will need and there is so much to do in the area our two weeks just weren't long enough. This site really is a great find and at a good price, Ideal for families as the kids have plenty of room to play which then gives the adults time to relax. Highly recommended and we will definitely be visiting again
The Moran family have just returned from a stay at Aberafon and we had a really great time. If you are pitched in the beach cliff field you have the most fantastic views with mountains on the left and the sea to your right. The facilities are good and although where we were was quite a distance from the main toilet block with showers, the small toilet block was very close by with sink for washing up and drinking water tap. My only criticism of these were as a contact lens wearer, a mirror would have been useful. The kids playground is a bit on the small side, our kids 8 and 5yrs preferred to play in the scrub area at the back of our tent where they made a secret den. Although initially disappointed that despite the website stating that fires are allowed, they are not allowed on the actual campsite but only on the beach, we had a fire every night except one on the beach with wood bought from the Londis shop up the road. The owner Clare was really friendly and helpful and when we had to make a complaint concerning noise, she dealt with the matter sympathetically and promptly. We shall return!
Annual jolly once again despite initial reservation (weather) - must have been blessed, had a good week, some sun. Much quieter this year- due to weather, really relaxed, loo roll in toilets was great, everyone was pleased. Spent long hours at the beach choosing pebbles with Nancy, have you got any left Hugh? Loved it, try it if you haven't.Proper family camping. My kids love it there.
We visited this site for a long weekend at the end of June. Even though the weather was atrocious, the field we were allocated, on the cliffs by the beach, was well drained and not waterlogged at all. Although this field is a good way from the main shower blocks there is a toilet block offering washing facilities in the corner of the field, they are clean and functional, the shower block is a long walk and the showers require 20p coins for about 2 1/2 minutes trickle.
This is an isolated site within driving distance of caernarfon and pwhelli and the only shop, a Londis, is around a mile away and cheaper than the on site shop. Access to the site is down a long, steep single width track so great care needs to be taken, you could meet a car towing a boat or caravan and there are few passing places.
All in all a very attractive well run site in a beautiful location, a place we intend to re visit when the rain isn't coming down horizontally, recommended
This was our first time camping with three children, 9, 7 and one only being 2 and a half. I had read the reviews but still wasnt entirely sure what to expect and although I have nothing else to compare it with I thought that this site was lovely. The weather wasnt great but my two eldest didnt mind. It had a lovely little stream at the entrance that my little girl spent most of her time in. The shop was only open at select times and a bit expensive. The showers were reasonable and stayed on lot longer than they were supposed to but stayed warm, the toilets were also clean, the floor got really wet so could be slippy. The private beach was also great when the weather was nice and only a short stroll back. We had a really windy night but being in the bottom field we didnt have any problems. Would definitly go back but try for better weather.
We were very lucky to have fantastic weather, it's nearly a year since our last visit, everything was as nice, if not better, the owners have spruced up the toilets and the kids playground has had a makeover. Good shop nearby and a pub just down the road serves good food, nice beach on site, we had a pitch overlooking the sea it was fantastic. Book early to guarantee a pitch it's a very popular place. We usually go to florida for our holiday, to be honest with the weather we had this was just as good. Hugh and Clare we love you!
We really love this site, it has got everything we could ask for in views and being near the sea. The showers are nothing to shout about, but they are clean and tidy. We feel with a few bob spent this could be a fantastic site.
This is one of the nicest sites, location wise, I have ever been to. It's fantastic for kids, with superb views, and though the beach is a bit rocky, we spent many a happy hour on it and had a wonderful beach BBQ and campfire one evening. (I think we were the only ones who made sure our fire was 50m from the slipway though - no one else seemed to bother. Slightly annoying when you have dragged a sack-full of logs all that way, only to watch everyone else light their fires practically ON the slipway!)
The site itself was only spoilt by a few things - the shower block, and the toilets on the bottom left-hand field. As others have said - for a site that size 3 or 4 shower cubicles is pretty poor. Also the floor was absolutely filthy for most of the time, even though it did get mopped out regularly. I think having to pay 20p for a lukewarm shower is a bit of a cheek!
The toilets were often blocked up, and inconsiderate campers made quite a mess of the waste disposal point - it seeped all over the concrete, right over where you had to walk, and by the dishwashing point. I was horrified to see small children in their bare feet walking through this disgusting puddle! Ugh!
Other than those few gripes, it's a beautiful site. If it's true the facilities are to be up-graded, then we will definitely be returning.
Went here for half term with our 2 kids and our dog. Had a great week here - kids loved being so close to the beach. Everyone was friendly. Would go again.
We were camping and found a pleasant change to be amongst the caravans
The showers were hot. Toilets were always close by which is handy with kids!
Visited the week leading up and including Bank Holiday weekend so the site was full.
The views from this site are amazing. The mountains at the back seem to look different all the time and often are wearing rather gorgeous "cloud hats". The beach was obviously great for boats but didn't appeal to us personally for swimming. The stream was wonderful and lulled us to sleep as we were pitched right next to it. There are very exposed pitches with great views and there are also very sheltered pitches near the stream.
Our kids really enjoyed playing in the stream, in the play area (which needs a little maintenance) and in the area of scrub behind the play area where the kids all loved making secret paths and dens. It is a fantastic site for kids. There is also a TV room, handy for wet times on site. They also enjoyed the ducks and the goats.
There was a laundry room with big washer and drier. These worked fine - you need 50ps and 20ps - however with only one of each machine I had to go back a few times to find them free as the site was full. Very helpful display of information leaflets in there.
The bumph on arrival states that you cannot use electric hookup for cooking or heating which is a little unusual. I would be happy to pay a pound more a day for some amps for cooking and heating!
Site shop had a very small stock and was open for a couple of hours a day. The Londis a short drive away in the Caernarfon direction was excellent though.
The loos needed a bit of end of season maintenance as there were only two in the ladies main block with doors that locked and flushes that flushed! They were cleaned daily. It would be nice to have loo roll and soap as it's a bit of a pain with kids otherwise. Ladies showers worked fine with 20ps but my man reported that the men's showers were disappointing in quantity and temperature of water - a shivery experience!
The access road is very narrow and winding and quite steep. We arranged for the owner to tow our trailer back out for £2 which he did very efficiently. If you come here, be very careful on the track. The owners apparently do not own it and therefore cannot maintain it and I went down a pothole when trying to pass another vehicle, landing on the underneath of the engine. We needed some helpful people with a jack and a ramp (Thank you so much!) to help us out and were fortunate not to sustain worse damage to our estate car. You would be fine in a 4 x 4 obviously. Otherwise take care and reverse or check carefully that any apparent passing places are safe.
The area around this site is fantastic - there is just so much to do. Caernarfon Castle and Beaumaris Castle were great and so was the beach near Abersoch. We enjoyed Electric Mountain, Dolbadarn Castle and the Slate museum in Llanberris and there are several other attractions there that we didn't have time to visit, including Snowdon of course. You are also not far from Llandudno and the Great Orme, which was fun. It is certainly a fantastic holiday area. We would love to return and see more.
The site is very beautiful and seems good value, although a little attention is needed here and there to help it reach its true potential - it could be superb.
We have just returned from our first trip there. We were in bottom field next to beach. However what this means is that as soon as tide comes in the boat people appear with 4x4's and boats in tow reving up engines etc and filling the air with noise and diesel fumes ! This is very annoying when you are sat having a cuppa and just relaxing. The owners should make this field boat people only or at least warn people of whats to come
We had a fantastic time here, the owners Hugh and Clare were fantastic, Clare obviously keeps everything running smoothly and works very hard, its a wonder they don't need a holiday themselves, they try so hard to make sure everyone is well looked after. The views are fab and the beach access ideal for boating, we visited some rich friends who took us out on their yacht, a bit of a back down to earth experience coming back home. Look forward to going back soon, we are off to Florida for the winter though.
Large friendly campsite in a lovely area of Wales. Clean modern facilities where welcome, though there was a fair bit of queueing experienced and the site was not particularly crowded. The beach is great for the kids with lots of rocks and a small stream for them to explore, small shop on site and a decent pub with food a short drive away. Getting into and out of the site is a bit hair-raising with a tight turn and hill start onto the main road, we also experienced something of a stalemate on the winding single-lane track leading down to the site, with vehicles going up and down the hill and no-one wanting to reverse, not a task for the faint hearted. Some nice sheltered areas but we where allocated a space down on the cliffs where a strong wind blew constantly making for an uncomfortable stay, with some tents collapsing, so bear this in mind when booking and check the weather forecast.
My family and I came home from the site on Sunday 16th, we all really enjoyed our stay, every body was really friendly, the atmosphere was brilliant, the sunsets were gorgeous. We couldn't have been in a better location. We were a little disappointed in the beach there wasn't any sand when the tide was in, it was all stones and you get attacked off the flies all the time.
The hill on the way down to the camp was a little scary at first, I was a little nervous as I was driving with the caravan on the back, but it was easy peasy, tho it didn't help when I missed the turning for the site and had to drive 2 miles down the road to find somewhere to turn around.
You really have to go to this site its brilliant for those who love their boats as there is easy access to the sea.
There are a couple of things to make this site a little better. BIGGER and an extra shower block and a big sign on near the wall at the entrance of the site.
LOVELY PLACE.REALLY WORTH A VISIT, but don't forget to take your loo roll as none is provided.
