We have just returned from a long weekend at this site during the Easter break, the facilities are very basic with toilets dotted around the site, every time we went to wash the dishes the water was cold.
The main showers and toilet facilities are located as you enter, with 20p for 3 minutes of water, which took 20 secs to heat up.
The beach is very rocky so don't expect an afternoon on the beach with the kids, quite a large site and did not feel crowded at all, please only beware of the entrance, the trip down the track was bad enough, but the trip back up was horrendous we thought we were going to loose the caravan, fortunately the site owner came and helped us to which I am eternally grateful!
Visited the site with my Husband, Son and dog. Only stayed 3 nights but had a fabulous time. Weather was great the pitch we had was on the upper site with amazing sea views. Had beach fires in the evening to take off the chill and watched the sunset. Facilities were very good and easily accessible. Various Shops available locally and there is a small shop on site that sells basic necessities just in case. I visited this site regularly as a child and it still had all the magic I remembered. Will definitely be booking up for a longer visit next year.
We stayed at Aberafon August Bank Holiday weekend for 3 nights. We had read the reviews, and as we knew we were on an exposed pitch, we were expecting wind, which there was in plentiful supply. However, the views and sunsets more than made up for the wind - Just take your earplugs!
We had views of the mountains to one side and the ocean on the other- fantastic.
The owners were very pleasant and helpful.
The toilets were plentiful and on a pretty muddy weekend, cleaned fairly regularly.
Showers were clean and hot and I didn't have to wait for one.
We were really close to the steps to the rocky shore, which was great. There were plenty of people having campfires on the beach, but with 2 young, worn out children we got them settled early.
We found the site really quiet, even though we were surrounded by families. People sat out late but were not loud.
The games room has a pool table and TV, It could do with a clean to get rid of the cobwebs - not that it bothered my 8 year old.
Its a great base to visit Castles galore & Snowden
On the top field which we were on, the pitches are around the perimeter of a very large field which meant there was a great play space for children in the centre of the field. We have stayed on sites where you are 'packed in' and are constantly telling the kids not to kick balls, fly frisbees etc near tents. No need here, more than enough space.
This site is all about the location. The view of the sea and the sunsets really made this a camping trip to remember.
Booking was easy on the phone and we were warned that our pitches were quite exposed. We did have one really bad windy night but as we were aware that was ok. The owners were very welcoming on arrival and the site is very reasonably priced.
There are adequate toilets spread around the site though they are quite basic so if you want modern toilets then this isn't the site for you. The main toilet block was a bit of a trek from our pitch but for once a day it was fine. This toilet block is very modern and clean. Showers are 20p which give you 3 mins of very warm and good pressured water. There are plugs for hair dryers and straightners in this block.
Washing up facilities are exposed and they are only 3 sinks for the whole site. The water for these wasn't very hot and we often had to queue.
The beach is a great asset and whilst rocky and difficult to walk on we had great fun with a campfire and marshmallows. Skimming was also popular with the boys!
Supermarkets close enough in local towns and some fabulous villages to visit close by.
I took my two year old twins and two dogs to Aberafon, initially staying for 4 day's which ended up being 7.
We went at the tail end of the bank holiday weekend to try to avoid the campsite being crowded and although the site was still quite busy it wasn't noisy.
Our Welcome was friendly and as we were newbies to the site we were given a map of where all the amenities and our plot was (Plot 19) and given a rule sheet which consisted of mainly common sense rules, nothing to restricting and they accepted bank cards which I was thankful of as I hadn't brought any cash with me and some useful advice about health as there is wildlife in the area.
I was given an excellent allocation of plot 19 it is near to the play park which has a swing for younger and older children, a climbing frame with a slide and Tyre swings, all made of a wood construction and obviously maintained regularly to keep it safe. It was a fabulous meeting spot for the kids, within twenty minutes of reaching the plot my two had acquainted themselves with a number of other children on the site where a few of the older children took my two under their wing and a number of adults watching their own children, which was a godsend as it gave me breathing space to set up the tent (which a very helpful neighbouring camper helped me construct). Also empty the car, without having to panic about the kids as they where within ear and eyeshot.
The plot also had the added advantage of having an electric hookup point. Although we didn't actually use it and it was also well protected by the trees.
One of the the toilet blocks, washing up stations and water points was only a short walk away which was great for me especially as I didn't have to worry about going to the loo and leaving the kids sleeping at night to go on a long trek. They were always very clean and were well maintained. There were four toilets there, the toilet had the basic amenities of toilet, sink and hand dryer and were of a good size which enabled me to have the kids and the dogs in with me comfortably which I found a relief as I had wondered how I was going to accommodate my loo trips without leaving the kids and dogs unsupervised, here I didn't have to worry about that.
There were a few occasions where my two wandered off exploring but I felt relaxed in that the field that housed the playpark had very good fencing all round the perimeter so there was no worries about them falling of the cliffs. My biggest worry was how they tended to invite themselves into other peoples tents to play with their children's toys and on one occasion managed to invite themselves for tea with a neighbouring camping family. A very child friendly place on many levels.
The beach is quite rocky but we had lots of fun walking the dogs, collecting rocks and watching the boats being launched. Fires are permitted there which are not permitted on the actual site, it would be wonderful to watch the wonderful sunsets, having two year olds with me I didn't indulge in a fire on the beach which you can buy logs for at the small site shop, we watched the beautiful sunsets from our tent instead as most of the campsite benefits from the gorgeous sea views.
One of the great benefits of the site is the location being at the foot of Snowdonia which is another aspect to the amazing views the site has, you are not too far from activities that are in abundance with many being dog friendly and there are numerous stores not too far away, including a Tesco and a chippy.
The site has a tourist information point which is housed in with the laundry room which made for good browsing whilst doing my washing of the very dirty and wet clothing the kids had kindly made for me whilst playing on the beach. I was extremely grateful for the laundry room as having dirty wet clothing hanging around in the tent would of been a nightmare, the washer and dryer are good sizes and cleaned the clothing well and only took about 40 minutes for a full wash cycle.
Good instructions are on the wall to help you use them. There is a snooker and tv room next door which would of been good to while the time away with but I didn't use it as I had other things to do whilst waiting for the washing back at the tent. There are baskets to put washing in if someone elses washing had finished so you didn't have to wait for someone to come and remove their washing before you could start yours.
Near to this is rubbish skip, this is the only rubbish bin I could find on the site which was situated in a good spot as it was kept on the way in and out of the campsite, as it was quite a distance from our plot, I just dropped off my rubbish whilst we were going in and out of the site and it avoided having unsightly rubbish bins dotted round the campsite. (Although there are dog poop bins dotted round the site which are emptied regularly). Though there were a number of dogs on the site I never saw any dog poop.
Dogs are always kept on leads on the site as there is livestock around we had regular visits by some goats and there were chickens wandering near to the laundry room and lots of rabbits dotting around.
The staff are amazingly helpful and went out of their way, you felt like you could knock on their door at any time.
The only criticism I have was that the shower cubicles were a bit small for me to fit myself and two babies in, it was very cramped to get three of us undressed and dressed in and the showers are fixed so there was no way to ease the babies into the shower so it ended up being a harrowing experience for all of us. They could maybe benefit from a child friendly shower area catering for the younger children. I would imagine bathing very young babies in there is even more difficult. The upside was that the water was lovely and warm and for 20p for three minutes was ample time and it was great to have music playing whilst you showered.
Overall the site is well thought out and maintained with friendly and helpful and approachable staff/owners with beautiful views and child friendly with a fabulous location and relaxing atmosphere.
We will definitely be going back for many years to come and are very grateful to the owners for the effort they put in to the site and ensuring we had a great relaxing break away and for sharing their little piece of paradise at a very reasonable price.
We went as four adults and one infant in a tent and stayed at Aberafon in the lower field near to the sea on plot 39.
The plot was lovely and backed onto the small stream and could see the rocky beach from where we were.
The winds were strong and it was raining heavily and as we arrived the ground was very wet.
We were booked in for two nights but after the first night of extremely strong winds and heavy rain, all our clothes and belongings were soaked and we had to pack up and leave. We would have thought the plot was protected by the trees behind us but this did not help.
Lovely site but was extremely windy and wet and when explained to staff that we had to leave one night early, we were not offered any help, refund for the second night or a move before we left.
We had damage to our tent and belongings and even though the site owners can't predict the weather, we thought we might have got an apology and our money back for the second night or even a chance of a move to another plot.
The site did have electric hook up and shower rooms at the front of the site which is 20p for 3 minutes of hot water which is enough for most people.
We also noticed that there was a pub which is about 3 miles away which is slightly expensive or can go to Pwllheli which is about 10 miles away where there are plenty of places to eat. We would definitely recommend 'The Barn' to eat which is in Pwllheli which had amazing food and a lovely interior.
Found this site on here and what swayed us was the location great for accessing snowdonia national park, and you can have fires on the beach.
Great for adults as we are childless and so were our friends. Families are very well catered for on this site and not a bored child in sight. As an adult only party we requested a pitch not too close to the play area or the main field where families are put so that the kids have loads of play space. Never feels overcrowded and they were pretty full the week we went.
Showers are 20p for 2an half minutes well worth every penny as always hot and they are power showers. (nice touch piped music in the main shower block) Very Clean and I regularly saw the cleaner.
Stand pipes for water all over site you are never far from one no matter what pitch you have.
Toilets and crockery washing sinks also located around the site So no long walks for the loo.
Washing machine and dryer on site plus a freezer for ice blocks, very handy.
Barn at top of site has a tv plus pool table for those rainy days.
Owners are very helpful and will do all they can to help you and answer any queries.
We were so impressed that we have booked for 2012 before we left.
Beware that if you have a seaview pitch the wind can get up sometimes but if you have a decent tent and pitch properly you should be ok. Highly recommend this site.
Just spent 6 nights here in our Outwell Nebraska XL, what a great location.
We found the site by searching UKCampsite.Co.Uk and having read other reviews decided we would give it a try. Emailed owners for rates & availability, got quick response, so rang & booked. Owners very friendly & helpful.
Site was easy to find but access road is steap and narrow, so for larger caravans this could be difficult.
A friendly welcome at the office and were shown where our pitch was. The site is split into a number of different fields, we were in top field overlooking the sea.
Pitch was a good size and flat.
We had a toilet block & washing up sink close by - showers were in the main block that was a short walk.
The office also doubles as shop selling basic requirements
Positives about site:
Good size pitches
Great views
Easy access to beach (we had beach BBQs twice watching sunset)
Good location for touring the Llyn peninsula - lots to do & see in good & bad weather.
Childrens play area, pool room with TV
Laundry & freezer facilities
Major supermarkets within 10miles
Friendly & helpful owners
Negatives:
Some pitches are quite exposed in windy weather.
Additional Showers/toilet/Washing up facilities in top field would be a benefit.
What a wonderful site, my family have been to many sites but this is definitely our favourite - my husband is now looking for a jet-ski to bring with us next year.
Yes the entrance road is quite scary especially towing a caravan, and even worse coming home but the owners will tow your caravan to the main road upon request - which we will probably do next time. We stayed for 6 nights was located on pitch 52 on main field with lovely sun set views in the evening.
The site was well maintained, main toilet/shower blocks cleaned daily and there was never a cue when we used even during the weekend when site was full.
Very safe for children with chickens running around the laundry/snooker table area. My 3 children loved the rocky beach and stream and children's play area. Like I say we loved our stay here and cant wait to come back next year!
What a fantastic site. With very helpful owners. We were pitched in the top field on the cliff edge with wonderful views of the bay amazing sunsets and dolphins.
There was a children's park in the far corner and a large open area for football rounders kite flying or whatever else takes your fancy. Beach access was via another field and some steps. The beach was rocky and many people had BBQ's of an evening.
Toilet/shower facilities were of an average standard but well kept and clean. There is a small shop on site and an under cover games room with a pool table.
The track down to the site is very steep and narrow we had a trailer and it felt a bit scary (don't know how caravans do it, but they do. ) The owner will happily tow you back up again if you're worried.
All in all a fantastic site that we WILL be returning to.
Fine location and quite full during our stay in August. The facilities are fine and although the tariffs are a tad high you are conveniently located for touring the beautiful North Wales. This idyll is only spoiled by the poor access. Moderate sized caravans go there at your peril. The gate from the road can only be accessed from one direction; the track from the road is very narrow restricted by high walls on one side and a drop to the river on the other. Sharp bends and a steep gradient make for a steady nerve and absolute control. Getting off the site is further complicated by a steep rise and in rainy conditions a four wheel drive is almost essential. The site owners would be well advised to warn visitor on their web site.
What a lovely campsite. Wild rabbits and wandering hens!
Pitch - We were situated by a beautiful stream which the children loved to play in and soothed us to sleep every night. Although the site is situated over several fields, I think would be fair to say, you would experience something very different in each. There are fields overlooking the beach, a small area with 3 pitches right next to the stream amongst others.
Toilets/showers - 20p for 3 minutes. Hot and powerful. Separate wash cubicles. Always wet, so roll up your trousers!
Dishwashing facilities - Adequate and clean.
Staff - Only saw and spoke to the lovely lady owner - very pleasant.
Playarea - Small, but modern. Not really big enough to keep my small children entertained for long. There was a tv and pool room, but can't comment as didn't use.
Beach - Couldn't use in the day as was covered in seaweed, but used every night as huge pebbles ideal for campfires. Wood available from the on site shop. Wonderful for toasting marshmallows and watching the sunset.
There are large supermarkets a short drive away and I would recommend Abersoch - delightful.
A fantastic site, great location and lovely setting.
We have just returned from 4 nights at Aberafon - we chose the site based on the reviews here so thought it fair to add our own.
We were a group of 6 families, with small children and a couple of dogs, with a mixture of tents and touring caravans. We were allocated pitches 36-41 on the field nearest the beach. The owners were great in choosing an area that was suitable for us. We also had more friends join us for 1 night, and they were given a pitch in the same field very close to us, which was great.
We loved our area because it was closest the the shore, and was really sheltered next to the trees by the river. We thought that the fields on the top of the cliffs might be a bit too exposed in windy weather, although they did get the best views!. Also as our field was smaller, it was more intimate. We enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the stream nearby.
The beach isn't really a beach - it's a rocky shoreline with lots of seaweed. As such, it wasn't suitable for small children. However we were able to launch our Kayaks there, great for evening sunset paddles. We found the water hose next to the stream right near the shore particularly useful for rinsing off our kayaks and gear (and dog!).
The toilet and shower area were very clean, and it was great to have the radio on while showering! - the showers are quite far away from the field we were in, so those with small children actually drove the car to the showers. It would make life easier for the kids to have had closer showers. The washing up area in our field got quite busy, so it would have been good to have more sinks, but you could sit and look at the lovely view while you were waiting anyway!
They have a fixed shower head and the heat is not adjustable - this meant that those with small children found it difficult to shower them as they weren't able to move the shower head around the kids. They also found that the water was too hot for the little ones - so they resorted to bathing the kids in a bucket instead! A 'kid friendly' shower with adjustable temperature and movable head would be a welcome addition.
The site has a kids play area, and a pool room, which we didn't make use of because the weather was so good! There is a large freezer where you can re-freeze your blocks for the cool box, which was very handy. The shop seemed well stocked with all of the essentials like milk, eggs etc.
Morfa Nefyn is around 15 mins drive away, the beach there is fantastic. We saw 3 bottlenose dolphins one day! Parking was a bit of an issue - you had to get there in good time to be lucky enough to get a spot. If you couldn't park near the beach, you would face a very steep walk up the road to the nearest parking spot. There's also a great Spar shop in Nefyn.
Overall we were very impressed with the site. Even though it was very big and busy, it didn't feel like it at all because of our small field. It was quiet, had spectacular views and was a really nice place to be. We would highly recommend it.
Our stay was made even better by the great weather we had. We took our boat here as it has its own slipway which is free to use. The slipway itself is not the best or easiest slipway and could do with being a bit longer, but that could just be me as I am an inexperienced boater. There was always people around who where wiling to help.
The site had a field for boat storage which was next to the slipway. The on site shop was very handy for your essentials and also we had 3 15 year olds with us who used the room opposite the shop which had a pool table and a tv which was open till 10 at night.
There was a park on the camp but our kids were too old.
The showers were great and very well looked after and always stocked.
There is a pub around a mile away which is a walk along the main road, its worth a walk as it is a lovely friendly pub. All in all, its a brilliant site with amazing views and very very welcoming. One of the best sites I have ever stayed on and are looking forward to next year
What a great site. We had booked an entire field as it was a large group and we were not dissappointed. The owners were especially helpful when we suffered catastrophe after severe gales and driving rain destroyed a couple of tents in finding alternate pitches for the undamaged tents. (The worst gales they had had this year to date). The following day when we were able to take in the site properly I was not dissapointed. Good amenities, stunning views and will definitely be visiting again, just a shame its a distance for me to travel as I would visit more often
