We have been to this site two years running and love it. The scenery on this site is simply breathtaking. The shingle beach can be accessed by steps on the site. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The on site shop has essentials eg bread, milk. The main shower/toilet block is ok but could do with refurbishing, the cubicles are quite cramped and it is 20p for 3 minutes. The play park is basic but safe. It is a large site and pitch sizes are very generous and not regimental. We would recommend using plastic pegs as the ground can be a little rocky. The site itself due to virtually being on the clifftop can be windy so windbreaks are essential. The access road down to the site off the main road is narrow and can be a bit tricky so take care.

The location of this site is good for exploring Caernarfon, Abersoch, Pwethelli (sorry for the spelling, couldn't be bothered looking it up)

We will continue to come to this site as the scenery is simply amazing with sea views one side and beautiful welsh mountains the other, the sunsets are breathtaking.

What an absolutely amazingly beautiful site this is! My wife and I had never been to Wales before and wow are we pleased we made the effort. Hugh and Claire are lovely people, always on hand for a chat if you wish but not in 'your faces' if you know what I mean?

The trek down to the actual site like quite a few people have mentioned is daunting to say the least! Hugh wasn't about when we arrived so I decided to give it a go, ok yes I did it it but the next time I go there I'll let Hugh take the reins. Confident I was not! It was well worth the £2 charge to let Hugh haul our van back up to the main road when we departed. There appeared to be about 7 different fields where you could park your van and every one of them was truly excellent.

The beach albeit not a sandy one was nevertheless still clean. The nearest town for main essentials was Caernarfon which was about 9 miles down the road. No pubs or clubs close by which suited us down to the ground.

The showers were lovely and clean (well placed next to a lovely stream) and everything around the site in general was spick and span. We stayed at the Aberafon site for 5 nights in total and we had some truly brilliant weather, just half a day of rain, we can live with that.

We would most definitely go back to this site in the future. It is off the beaten track but it's well worth a visit.

When we arrived, the drive in was okay, a little bit hairy (we were in a small campervan) but not too bad but it was mostly downhill.

Once we'd checked in we were given a map to our pitch and directed to the only drinking tap with a hose which was in a small clearing near to the office. There were other drinking taps but not with hoses so take your own because once we'd filled up the water tank, we tried to drive the van out but it was quite a steep turn and our wheels were spinning and throwing up smoke. We finally managed it but then we realised that something had ripped the water pipe off the bottom of the van and damaged it beyond repair so we had to use the facilities to wash up our dishes, so be very careful with the terrain on that part of the site!

We were on pitch 83 but for some reason, the main field has half of the pitches numbered in the 80s and half in the 60s, we didn't realise this (it wasn't entirely clear on the map!) and without realising it, we pitched up at the wrong pitch. We didn't find out until they started cutting the grass right next to us with a VERY noisy strimmer. I asked them to do it when we left as it was extremely intrusive! We were then told we were in the wrong place anyway and I kind of felt like we were being admonished! If we had been shown to our pitch in the first place then this wouldn't have happened. Nobody came to tell us and we were only told once we'd put up our awning etc so I found this quite rude. On other sites you get shown to your pitch. Nobody came round at all to see if were ok either for the whole of the 4 days. I didn't find the management to be very attentive at all.

The facilities were very basic, I would describe them as adequate but a shower block nearer to the sea end is needed and the existing shower block could do with modernising.

The views are breathtaking and the site was lovely and quiet when we were there (apart from the strimmer!).

They are definitely missing a trick not having a decent shop on site, make sure you take everything you need with you!

On the way home we got stuck on the drive out, wheels spinning and rubber burning again, while trying to negotiate the hilly driveway and we only have a small van!

To summarise, the views are truly lovely, the sunsets incredible and we really did enjoy our stay

Myself, partner and dog have just returned from a fantastic 8 night stay at Aberafon.

The views are excellent and change frequently depending on the weather

Being an early riser I enjoyed queue free showers every morning-plenty of hot water (20p for 3mins). Only 1 shower/toilet block with separate ladies / gents facilities but there are more toilet blocks dotted around the site. There's areas for pot washing also.

We couldn't get a TV signal with our basic indoor aerial but out TV has a built in DVD player which came in very handy for a film in the evenings.

Although we were there at a busy time, we didn't feel crammed in at all.

The owners were very pleasant and we did take advantage of the tow-out service offered by them - £2 very well spent I think!

This is a site I'm sure we will visit again.

This was our second trip but our first with a caravan.

The entrance to the site is not for the faint hearted. We nearly lost our van in the river that runs down next to the road!

The site itself has lovely views and is only a few minutes walk to the beach which the dogs loved. The pitches are fine and we were booked in close to our fellow campers which was good.

The toilet and washing blocks could do with upgrading and cleaning a bit more often. Hot water would have been a nice feature when the weather was really bad (which it was - it is quite open to the elements.)

Due to the bad weather overnight many other campers in tents abandoned their weekends and went home.

On our way out we got stuck half way up the road because of the wet mud on the road. The owners were not about so we were stuck for a while, with people trying to get out behind us.

Fortunately a kind family with a Discovery pulled our van up onto the main road for us.

All in all, the site is ok for tenting with basic facilities

We have just got back from Aberafon. What a great place, pitches ideally spaced, plenty of toilet facilities and dish washing areas. Great beach access down to pebbley / bouldered beach.

Toilets and shower areas clean and tidy and would definitely go back. We were there with a friend, 3 tents in our party, plenty of space for children to play yet not get in other campers way (we had children ranging from 18 months-15 years). The play area was just the right size to occupy the kids and the goats in the field also kept them entertained.

The drive to the site was picturesque, glad we only had a trailer don't think I could reverse a caravan on the single track approach though.

Pleasantly surprised, really great place to camp, plenty of different places to camp from cliff edge to very quiet sheltered spot. It has every thing you need although no shop on camp. 5 min drive to get what you need.

The coast line is stunning and the back drop with mountain views. Would definitely go again. I took 2 young boys at 9 and 10 and they wanted to stay.

The shower, toilets etc are great. I would recommend Aberafon to anyone, there aren't many campsites were I found total peace and quiet at night time, fantastic.

Just back from bank holiday weekend, went with 3 children youngest (6) made lots of friends. Site is exposed to full fury of winds as is on beach (see boulders to pebbles).

Didn't use showers as we were at opposite end of site, toilets were always clean, mop and bucket were provided. Could do with another shower block if staying longer

Access road steep and winding, however there is a tow service. Owners nice and approachable

We stayed at this site for the easter weekend. We arrived on the Thursday afternoon, the entrance to the site is quite misleading as it just looks like a farm gate and the single track lane is very steep, I was dreading someone coming in the opposite direction as there is no way you could pass each other. But luckily they didn't.

We were given a more sheltered pitch in a small field by the entrance which was appreciated as the wind and rain was absolutely awful while we were putting our tent up and had been forecast for the night. But to no fault of anyone else' but the weather the area around our tent became a mud bath, a motorhome arrived at the same time and parked opposite us before checking in to find he'd been given a pitch in another field so had to move but with the increasing mud found he was stuck and succeeded in churning up the pitch even more! The site owner did come to tow him out though.

On their website it says there is a shop but it doesn't tell you that its only open at the weekend but they were very helpful and served me anyway. The showers were 20p for 3 mins but with the cost of the pitch I think you could provide free showers like other cheaper sites. They were always hot though and relatively clean, with the mud situation on the site it made the toilets floor quite dirty most of the time so maybe they need an extra clean at peak times.

The weather did improve from friday which made the rest of our stay a lot more pleasant. Its in a lovely location with mountain and sea views, the facilities are a bit lacking, like the children's playroom consisted of a pool table and a tv in a hut. The playground wasn't up to much either.

All in all its in a nice location but because some of the facilities were a bit lacking I don't think we will return.

We have just returned from this campsite , having had the most wonderful weather possible for Easter (for a change !).

A couple of comments that new visitors need to be aware of.

The entrance is very tight - although we were warned. Coming in was ok with an experienced driver and a mondeo estate towing a caravan, However I would advise you to pay Hugh and get yourself towed out. The grip is not very good on the steep climb out , if it had been wet we wouldn't have made it ! as we were leaving

I walked to the top of the drive to ensure no cars were coming in as we were going out - there would have been no way we could pass.

Shower block

Not able to cope with the number of people at Easter. So if going on peak weekends suggest you use your own facilities, also feel the toilet block needed a little more attention eg. cleaning at peak times. Maybe a sign asking people to mop the floor after use - and provide some water in the mop bucket to do so !

There are no hard standings but drainage seemed adequate.

That apart the site is beautifully situated with panoramic views of mountains and sea - giving the best views you are likely to find at any campsite. It also adjoins a beach. There was plenty of open space to play and space between pitches.

Our children commented on how friendly the owners were, chatting frequently.

We had a lovely time and would return - but would request a tow out in order to try and preserve our clutch !

This is a fantastic campsite in a great location - I first visited in 2005 and had a great weekend in pitches 1+2. We came back and my parents came along and hooked up their camper van next to our tent. Another great weekend with great weather.
The shower facilities are great, always hot water and nice and clean. You can have a BBQ as long as it's elevated so the grass doesn't burn - we took a cast iron firepit / bbq and had a small campfire in it afterwards.
The location is good, though easy to miss the entrance! Only a 10 minute car journey to nearby canaerfon for supplies. The best thing about this campsite is the private beach at the bottom though - not sandy so no cricket but beautiful 1st and last thing. Watch the sun rise or set with a cold beer and a book. And of course a camera. The last time I went I sat on a rock at 7am, watching a fellow camper launch his new boat and head off into the distance - very relaxing! Great place, highly recommend it. Close to Porth Nyfn and Cricceth too [by car].

Just returned from a weekend camping at this site. Facilities are basic but clean with breath-taking views from every pitch. Access road to site is as hairy as previous reviews state but worth the effort. Site owners do offer a towing service for anyone not brave enough to attempt the single track drive.
Booking was efficient and everything was in place before we arrived. A friendly family orientated site ideal for water sport lovers and walkers alike. We will be back.

 - Medium sized site, situated right on the seafront with private beach (although of large boulders).

- Absolutely amazing views of the surrounding landscape, dramatic mountains with clouds tumbling down them.

- Great value at £12 a night.

- Showers 20p a go. Lots of toilet blocks around, some in much better condition than others.

- Being a coastal site it was very very windy! Our camp stove took about 2 hours to cook dinner!

- Lots of wildlife around, I spotted a Manx Shearwater and Gannets amongst others.

- Nice walks along the beach, especially at dawn. Space to play sports on site without upsetting people.

- Shops and amenities a short car journey away. Pretty harbour at Trefor, good for rock pooling.

On arriving at the campsite owners were friendly, we were allocated to out plot to find the last campers left rubbish, camping mats and beans on the grass, this was shortly picked up by the owners after a phone call. All fellow campers very friendly, beach fantastic though full of rocks and our dog cut his paw. Toilets clean, washing up area clean, showers clean never any waiting. Shops/supermarkets etc within driving distance. Though on our 2nd day we were involved in an R.T.A our car was a right off (not our fault). We had no pump for our airbed, asked the owners to lend one then stated we had no car, reply was ask another camper they would be sure to help. Luckily our neighbours on plot 39 were more than helpful and pumped our airbed up and even invited us for tea. On our last day we stated we would not be able to leave due to no transport etc, we were told we had to leave by 12noon as another camping family were due on our pitch and we had to pack up and take all out belongings to the laundry up the winding slopey road. Luckily the helpful neighbours at plot 39 saved the day again and drove all our camping stuff up to the laundry. Owners let us store our camping gear in their animal shed until it was able to be picked up.

Just come back from aberafon campsite, we stayed for 3 nights with 4 adults 5 kids and 2 dogs. We had a brilliant time scorching hot weather made it even better. Campsite itself is maintained to a high standard, numerous toilets (very clean) with dish washing facilities at each one. Shower block also very clean and numerous drinking water stand pipes dotted around the site, so no need to walk far with heavy water cans.
There is a small shop at the house which sells a few basic items. There is a small laundrette with a freezer for ice packs 20p each, showers 20p for three minutes 40p is sufficient time. Next to the laundrette is a play room with a pool table and a tv, although the kids were more interested playing on the park and feeding the goats in the field next to it.
A little bit disappointed in the beach, which is more of a shoreline as there is no sand just rocks. But that never really put us off as the kids loved playing on them and also the stream that runs through the site to the sea, ice cold water but some relief in hot weather. All the kids on the site loved it and played there instead of the sea. If you cross the stream and have a slow walk across the rocks there is a brilliant beach approx half an hour walk away with sand and crystal clear water which is quite shallow. It was quite a find as there was only about 30 people on it, kids loved having there very own beach to play on.
On the whole we all had a brilliant time. Never met hugh, but Clare was very pleasant, friendly and helpful. Would we go back, definitely it was a fantastic campsite in a fantastic part of wales with amazing scenery, and reasonably priced.
