August 2005 Just got back from a fab week at Trevornick. Very modern well organised sight, lots of very freindly staff very well maintained. We had are tent pitched in Hayfields nearly at the top of the hill but not quite. Toilets, shower blocks all not too far for that early morning dash. Excellent facilities lovely clean heated outdoor pool. Entertainement each night in the main club house and good fishing according to my husband and brother both caught whoppers (no photographic proof again!) Very considerate campers no noise after 11pm which is to be commended. Bingo is good at the club house one off game and was normally for a good sum of cash each night. Kids club looked good but we were too busy to send ours. There are beauty treatments if you you wanted them. Shower blocks are plentiful and clean cost 20p to shower and last long enough for you and one of the kids. About a mile walk to the beach but some walk as it is over sand dunes. You can drive and park there for about £3 for the day( much better idea)Take advantage of the sites facilities they serve excellent food at the Gull Rock Bar on the site good choice and very reasonable. A great base for exploring Newquey and Cornwall. The beaches and the surf are superb we especially enjoyed the body boarding which was a first and enjoyed by all. Porth beach is good just north of Newquey as you can drive your car onto the beach and park for £4 all day the adjacent car park is £6 and a walk with all those beach towels, wind breaks etc. There are toilets and cafe practically on the beach. Check the tide times as when you pitch up early the walk to the sea can be immense. We have already booked for next year as they have an offer at this years rates. Only problem was that all the good pitches have all been booked up for next year so back to Hayfields again can't wait!
August 2005 Upon arriving you will be escorted by someone on a moped to your pitch which is a great idea. Stayed at the top of blue field which was reasonably flat unlike many other pitches we could see. The pitch itself was a decent size but only just got our aspen 700 and the car on it. Most of the other pitches seemed a little huddled together, in one instance a family had to take their guylines down to allow a caravan to get on its pitch.
Good amenities for kids and parents, the on site shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. Evening entertainment started about 6.30pm but in no way could it cope for the amount of people on site, buildings were well decorated and fitted out though. Showers and toilets were fine and cost 20p, not long enough in my opinion. This place is definitely suited to families with young children as there is a pool, arcades, funpark, gokarts and a kiddies club. The beach is a fair walk over the dunes or by road but its very nice.
July 2005 Just got back from 2 weeks at Trevornick and have to say it is probably the best commercial site we have stayed on. There are no statics here so that would explain why the touring facilities are so good for a commercial site.
The site is well landscaped and the premium pitches are huge (car, caravan, full awning, pup tent withs loads of room left).
The pool is of a decent size and is heated. On site fishing ponds are well stocked. Shop stocks most things but is expensive as are all site shops. Decent food served in on site cafe/takeaway. Three venues for a drink in the evening (Trawlers bar, club house and Gull Rock sports bar- stunning views over Holywell bay and golf course from beer garden).
The beach is a hard walk through the dunes and is excellent.
July 2005 Just left Trevornick had a super pitch which was flat and a good size. The toilets and showers were always very clean. Very friendly staff. Good club but if you are there for more than a week everything is repeated. And if you are there in peak weeks won't get a seat after half seven.
Many people we spoke to have been going for years. Unless you have walking boots on don't expect to walk to the beach from here. Overall a very good site but too many for the facilities
July 2005 Just got back from a weeks holiday at this site. We had a wonderful time, very clean and well run ascorted to pitch and staff very friendley and helpful. The kids club entertainment was very good although the bar is quite small and even if we got there at 6.30 we couldn't get a seat. However it is high season so perhaps that's usual.
Holywell beach is within walking distance and is excellent esp for little ones. There is a small inlet or stream running through it and they can paddle and play very safely while the sea is just a short walk away.Pitch however was on the small side and we just managed to squeeze our Aspen 700 on no, room for windbreaks or a utility tent and there was hardley any room between tents.(very crammed in) Good job that we got on so well with our neighbours.
Also only two washing up sinks caused a problem at times espe as they closed at 9pm. There is a theme park next to the park which is great for keeping the kids occupied but beware it's run with a token system and when you work out how much you are actually paying it's very expensive. Most families that I spoke to were spending between thirty to fifty pounds on it. Beware Merlins Maze with little ones we got lost and after an hour trailing around with crying children desperate for the toilet and a drink cheated and crawled under the enterence turnstyle. Shame they couldn't have provided an escape route, hate to think what would happen if there were an emergency.
In the surrounding area Newquay is nice to visit, but very hard to park, and we had a lovely time at Perraporth lovely pastys and chips on the beach.
Overall a nice site, lots to do and great for familys but chose your pitch wisely and check it's size, some are larger than others.
August 2004 Also visited August 03. The site is fantastic, we were there when the Boscastle floods happened and we got wet! However, the facilities were great, the toilets could have been a bit cleaner but I always compare it to Haven down the road and feel a bit better. It is a trek to the beach but what a beach! Central for Newquay and Perranporth. Not too many amusement arcades. Plenty of shops. Cornish pasties and cream teas on tap and a stone later none of my clothes fit. What a great holiday. I would recommend the site to anyone. We have had a super pitch and a regular one and they were both good pitches. Incidently, the webcam on their site is good for spotting the weather. JB
September 2004 We have stayed here a number of times and love it. We usually opt for one of the pitches in the overflow fields as they are a little less populated, yet still near to essential facilities.
It is a bit of a hike to the beach, and even longer back up the hill!
August 2004 This was our second visit to Trevornick.
Excellent facilities. Very clean toilets and showers. Staff always cheerful and helpful. Shop a little pricey but well stocked. Plenty of entertainment to amuse all. There is a kids club for smaller children. The sports bar has a varied menu with reasonable prices and food is also available from the cafe. With three boys aged 8, 14 and 16 there is something to suit all ages.
August 2004 We loved Trevornick. This was our first family camping trip and I must admit, although it was me who found the site, I was a bit of a campophobic! I couldn't have been more wrong I loved every minute of it. We stayed in a Super Eurotent which was very clean and very well equipped. The facilities onsite are brilliant, a well stocked shop, a very nice bistro/takeaway and a choice of clubs if you like entertainment. Lovely swimming pool. The toilets and showers (a good 5 mins for 20p, but beware - very hot!) were kept very clean and if you got your timings right you didn't have to queue -I found it best to go for a shower about 3.30 to 4.00 o'clock in the afternoon if you could. I cannot praise the staff highly enough, they were so helpful from the shop staff to the club and the lifeguards to the security staff. We enjoyed ourselves so much we have decided to invest in our own tent for our next visit. We will definitely be going back. Oh, and the weather was pretty good too!!
August 2004 Just returned from a week at Trevornick. The place is excellent and is 100% geared up to camping, very clean and well kept with good facilities. The whole place has a 'family feel' and is much more personal than some of the big corporate places such as Haven.
Hayfield has larger pitches and we were easily able to squeeze our Kyham Espace onto the pitch without upsetting any of the neighbours.
The only bad mark I would give is the Kanga Club. In the welcome pack it positively encourages you to leave your kids in the clubhouse while you spend time in the bar, stating that it is fully supervised at all times. Our kids aged 6 and 5 wanted to go in the club so we checked it out and left them for an hour. The clubhouse took their names and asked whether they were allowed to leave on their own - to which we said no. Upon returning an hour later I found my six year old son sat at the top of the clubhouse with tears streaming down his face - he was absolutely distraught. A boy had been hitting and bullying him for virtually the full hour. Whilst trying to console him, my five year old daughter was allowed to walk out the front door on her own !! - the single member of staff on duty being unaware I was there at that time. Needless to say I was livid and complained to the park management - Unfortunately, despite their apologies, I think my complaints fell on deaf ears and I don't expect they will alter their procedures in any way. This is dissapointing as it was the only fault we found during our stay.
I would recommend the site to anyone, but for parents of younger children then I would suggest you keep an eye on them yoursefl while they enjoy the Kanga club and it's facilities.
August 2004 We spent 10 days at Trevornick (2 adults and 2 children aged 3 and a half and 6) returning on 10th Aug and missed all the really foul weather! Great location, clean toilets, very hot showers!, challenging golf course, nice cafe, friendly staff, on-site security guards at night, main pool could have done with being a little warmer but that's the only thing I could fault. We would definitely return and recommend the walk over to Polly Joke and Crantock.
Aug 2004 Returned from 2 weeks in a Euro Tent on Saturday. It was basically all I have read on here and we are not disappointed. The touring tents seemed a little crammed together and we were concerned about how busy it looked on arrival but to be honest there are so many facilities (both shower blocks and entertainment facilities) that it doesn't give that impression whilst there.
The shower blocks are the cleanest we've come across, modern and well decorated and I only had to queue once for a shower in 14 days. Pitch and Putt course is a superb with spectacular views and perfect greens for a novice like me with children. Fishing was less successful for us but we saw some good fish taken by others. There is an abundance of good swimming and surfing beaches to either side of the camp and for those with the inclination, a fantastic walk from Trevornick, down to Hollywell Beach over the cliffs to Porth Joke following the coastal path, then over to Crantock beach and finally over to Fistral, about 5-6 miles and with stunning views. The local bus service can take you back, but we decided to walk back!
The staff at trevornick we came across seemed to enjoy working there which is always a good sign and they were always friendly and helpful. I can't really fault the site, it may be too big for some, but it is not too big that is has forgot the important things that campers like. We'll undoubtedly go again, either in the Euro tent which makes travel down easier and the stay more comfortable, or in our own tent for a shorter stay.
July 2004 Awesome.... can't fault it despite the weather! even though it is large it is divided into relatively small fields by hedges, we were in the yellow field. Facilities first rate. We were with another family so in total 4 adults and 3 kids and couldn't ask for more. Played golf, used the pool, ate in the restaurant, used the bars, used the kids play area, went to the fun park, used the shop... all fine and the toilets / showers were fine, clean and plently of them. We will be back.
May - June 2004 We visited (2 adults and 2 kids aged 9 and 5) over the Whitsun week, we arrived at 8am on the first Saturday and were directed into a holding field where we then had to park up and walk to reception to get booked in etc. No problem in reception, very helpful staff who acted efficiently and politely - always a good sign for first impressions. We returned to the car and waited to be called in, only 5 minutes or so and we on our way following a scooter to our pitch.
We were pitched alongside the pathway running to the Holywell Bay Fun Park which at first we thought would be disaterous, people trapsing past all day long, but we positioned our UKCampsite.co.uk pennant well for all to see and spent mosts days out and about exploring the area.
The toilets were lovely and clean and played local radio, the showers were 20p a time but lasted plenty long enough for me and my youngest daughter to shower together. Although the site was very full the facilities never struggled to cope and not once did any of us have to queue for either the toilet the showers.
Fresh water points all over the site and plenty of elsan and waste points meaning you didn't have to go too far to fill up with water etc.
Onsite there is a great playpark - that is supposed to be supervised by an adult at all times, I rarely noticed an adult in there keeping an eye on the kids, this was locked at 9pm so the noise from there ceased at a sensible time. There is an outdoor swimming pool open 11am to 7pm (I think), pay as you go golf course, Holywell Bay Fun Park, with crazy golf, battle boats, go-karts etc (can get pricey if in there for too long), there is a fishing lake plus so much more.
There is a sports bar - lovely, reasonably priced food, a bistro, nice grub, and the club house. A great shop that sold pretty much all you need, at a good price as well.
The beach is a 15 minute walk down the road and about 40 minutes over the dunes but I would recommend going the dunes way as they are very high and absolutely wicked fun to run down!
The noise levels were incredibly low considering how busy the site was and regular patrols from security made this a reality.
The area is fab with soooo much to see and do and I am sure that I have missed out so much about this site as well in this review but all I will say is try it for yourself.
I do not like massive, commercialised sites and when I arrived I was horriefied by what I saw, but after about a day I realised that this site was not noisy, was not full loads of kids shouting abuse and booting balls against the awning, this in fact was a pleasant site which I would return to again if there wasn't such a huge choice of sites in the area that I havn't been to.
16-24 July 2004 Well, second time staying here, still friendly staff, lovely new pool too. Although the weather wasn't exactly great, we managed to do lots, a walk along the hill towards Perranporth is well worth the scenery if not tired legs! The club seemed packed every night, so we either went upstairs to the other bar, or took a walk to Cubert to the Treetops Inn, which is child friendly & has a pool table. There's also the Gull Rock sports bar, which has a big screen TV, also an area outside to sit with the view of a lovely sunset... on a nice evening of course! Then there's the Treguth Inn, I think it's called, half way down the hill, then the St. Pirans Inn which does a BBQ weather permitting with a nice play area & sand pit situated at the edge of the beach. Always plenty to do in & around Holywell Bay, definately recommended!
