Just returned from a wonderful week here, even though the weather was a bit mixed.
I go camping on my own with my two children so I'm very choosy where I go, Trevornick was fantastic.
The children loved it, couldn't get my 7 yr old daughter out of the pool, even when it rained! And my 13 yr old son liked meeting friends in 'The Hub' then off to the amusements.
It was great to have the fun park. I paid 40pounds over the phone a couple of months prior to my holiday for two lots of fun park tickets which gave me 56 pounds worth of tokens. This suited me as it would have been a chunk out of my holiday spending money. So we had plenty of tokens to use which we did when the weather wasn't so good. My two loved the rides; the blaster boats, go karts and thunder racing were the favourites.
Holywell Bay beach is fantastic. It's quite a walk so we took the car as we had body boards etc to carry and was only 4pound to park for the day.
The children loved the large sand dunes you can slide down on a fun board that you can hire on the beach for 4pound a day, can also hire wind breakers etc and buy drinks and snacks.
My eldest had a great time body boarding in the sea which was very well monitored/organised by our wonderful RNLI Lifeguards who kept a constant watch. (Please donate)
Then when the tide started to come in it created a small tidal inlet with perfect size waves for my daughter to body board.
The hire shop was a 'God Send' and very reasonably priced. I have a small car so it was great to be able to hire an electric cooler box and a clothes airer. Also my heater died so hired one. And I forgot my hairdryer so they came to the rescue again :-)
Def recommend a day out to Land's End. It's an hours' drive. We paid 20pound for a family of 3 ticket which got us into all the attractions. If you like Dr Who the exhibition was brilliant. 4D cinema film was fun and the air sea rescue. There's a play area, farm and exhibition of the people who do the Land's End to John O Groats trek, gift shops, cafe etc. Beautiful scenic walks around the headland, wished we'd taken a picnic. We got there at lunchtime but wished we'd got there earlier as there is so much to do.
My daughter went to the kids club on a couple of mornings and enjoyed herself.
The only down point is that the showers were a bit mucky as high season and peeps going to the beach. Next time I'll pay the 5pound to use the family bathroom for the week.
Staff were very friendly and were happy to let me take a bit longer to pack up as there was no one booked onto my pitch straight after me. They also gave me good printed directions to Morrisons the nearest supermarket which is bout 10 min drive.
We had a great time and will def go back next year for a week.
Just returned from a weeks holiday here in our tent.
Ok from the beginning.
When we arrived we were really happy with the location. We know Newquay quite well and from the main Newquay town it is only a 15-20 minute drive. The staff were very pleasant and we were shown to our pitch by a nice bloke on a motor bike.
First shock was size of the pitches - we have maybe been spoilt with pitch sizes in the past and were really disappointed with the size of Trevornick pitches. We had upgraded to a premium pitch and good job really. We just managed to pitch up our Montana 6 plus front extension with few inches to spare all around.
The pitches have no space between then and it is a real squeeze. Saying that we did manage to get our tent on it and when we took it down it looked bigger!
The shower blocks were clean and modern, although maybe needed slight more attention throughout the day as was a rainy week so got a bit mucky - but that is the rain to blame. We did also report a blocked toilet which by the time we had nipped into town and back was all clean and restored!
We were quite close to the toilet block which was great but many people sharing the same block and did have to cue for showers sometimes (but then it was PEAK August).
Views were amazing and golf popular. Beach was a bit of a walk but very nice.
There is a funpark on site which we were close too - VERY VERY VERY pricey!
They have a hire shop on site which was fantastic which had everything you could think of - we hired a bigger fridge for £21 for the week. We ran out of gas on our second from last day but were not concerned as they bosted all gas available. Except our one - campingaz. They said they had run out. Very disappointed for a 5* site - but to the lady on receptions credit she phoned just about everywhere in Newquay to try to find us one!
The pool was really lovely and clean, shop was fantastic. We did not try the food on site but looked popular.
Overall really great site and would go back but maybe go for the even bigger pitch and felt slightly claustrophobic!
We have just returned from our 1st visit to Trevornick. We booked 2 pitches together (as a large family we needed to), but were told on arrival that we weren't together, their typing error, but wouldn't move us. We booked because they advertised as being close to the beach ' a stones throw' Good 15 mins walk over a golf course, be prepared to duck and quite hilly.T he security on site wasn't very good , we stayed on holding field on Friday night but went onto main site for a look around and popped into the clu,b nobody approached us and the passes we were given weren't asked for anytime during our 8 night stay. Site was very noisy at night not helped by the pitches being close together. The toilets and showers weren't overly clean and water far too hot. On the plus side hire shop very good as is the farm shop staff very helpful and friendly. Club was ok but expensive.
A very large but very good site, showers etc good & clean given the size of the site. For us it was a really nice week. We found you could have a Gazeebo or another tent (not a big one) or as we did a utility tent without extra cost.
Everything is on site i.E. Cafe, bar's, ammusements, shop, take away, laundry, golf course, fishing, kids play area, football field & best of all you can hire anything from a pair of binoculars to a full size fridge ! great for those beer's & food / milk of course etc. There is a Fun Park right next door (We did not go) which we thought might give a bit of noise, but we did not here anything
Newquay is about 15 to 20 mins drive away & we found a Morrisons supermarket just outsidde Newquay which was very good right next door to a MacDonalds & a Lidl's. We found this site to be a really good base to explore Cornwall, it was off the beaten track as such, but close enough to any major route to visit most of Cornwalls places of interest you must if you can visit Healey's Cyder Farm they give you tasters of all the cyders they make and if you can try the Rattler! We bought a crate!(It's on tap in the bars on site!)
We have just returned from two weeks at this site. On arrival we were very impressed with the organisation, we were given info pack and take to our pitch. The pitch was an average size, taking our unit, awning and car at the front.
The park was clean and the shower blocks were usually quite clean and we didn't have to queue. We also paid £5 per week for a family shower room although we found the standard shower cubicles were cleaner. The beach at Holywell was fantastic, we walked along the the pavement on the main road, it took around 20 mins to reach the sea front for bodyboarding.
Coming back to the site was up the hill which was steep but better than other beaches where you can struggle to park. The fun park was compact, and was at the edge of the park and closed at 6pm, it was really only suitable for children 11 years and younger and pricey. The pool was small but nice, clean and supervised. We ate in the Stables bistro on 'curry night' which was good.
On the negative side, we went for the beach, Eden project, Lands End etc and to chill, this site advertises to come with your friends and family and many people do! The site asks for noise to be kept to a minimum after 11, the reality is that it is noisier much later, people do not consider their neighbours and many groups were drinking, playing music and shouting till later. The site did act on a number of complaints from people and it did improve.
We love Devon and Cornwall and have visited many times, this site is great for groups, people wanting a lively site and easy access to the beach. If you want a quieter site I'd choose elsewhere.
Overall, an excellent campsite. We have just spent a week here which we thoroughly enjoyed & would definitely go again. We arrived at midnight the night before our stay & pitched on the adjacent holding field. Very well organised & we were actually shown direct to our pitch the next morning by 9.30 which was excellent.
Pluses:
Excellent hire shop.
Great family bathrooms (£5 for key for the week)
Great facilities overall - enough to suit. Children/adults of all ages.
Staff all very helpful & pleasant.
Negatives:
No breaks between pitches - some tents/awnings were literally inches apart which I'm sure is a major fire hazard.
Dogs allowed in the family bar. It's not very nice to be sitting having a drink & find a dog licking your ankles!
From our pitch it was quite a walk to the toilet/shower block & at peak times there were queues.
You can only get a small glass of wine in the bar! No choice of size of glass or option to buy a bottle which was a pain!
Great location for the fabulous beaches at Holywell, Crantock, Perranporth & Newquay!
Well what can I say? fantastic site, the kids just loved it.I'm not the kind of person to keep going back to the same place but we have booked again for next year. The staff are fantastic, the kids club very well run and maria entertainment manager never stops.
The shop is very well stocked, the cafe lovely (that's the only place you can pick up free wifi). The toilets cleaned regular but get your usual grass on the floor if its wet but that's the campers fault for not wiping there feet as the enter.
Its a good walk down the dunes to the beach but a rough walk back, i wouldn't like to think I'd got to take a pushchair down there, but you can walk the road way,or take the car down there is a large NT car park at the bottom which if your a member its free.
The pitches are fantastic we was on 133 quite large too,but next year taking the dog so had to move to hay field. The club allows you to take in the dog which is fantastic, also holywell bay is a dog friendly beach but saw no dog mess at all. You will not be disappointed if you go to this site.
Just returned from 2 weeks at Trevornick, and can recommend the site to anyone, good location well maintained and with clean toilet blocks, beautiful beach a short walk from the site.
Very good evening entertainment when used.
Children enjoyed using the pool and small arcade.
Only real gripe was tended to be sardined in a touch but didn't really bother us too much.
We arrived on a busy saturday but the booking in proceedure is amazingly well organized,we were on our pitch by midday which was good after a long journey. My teenage son loved the fact we had a tv connection to the tent, we hired a tv from the hire shop for the week. The hire shop is great and hires out practically everything you need including wet suits and bodyboards.
The site is really dog friendly, dogs allowed everywhere and it has a big dog walking field where we could let our dog off the lead.
Holywell beach is lovely, great waves, lifeguards,a little stream for younger children to play in. It was possible to walk to the beach, about 20 mins either straight out of the site and down the hill or over the dunes at the back of the campsite, which may be hard work with small children, pushchairs etc.
It was a bit harder coming back up the hill though at the end of a long day bodyboarding!lovely walks in the area, we walked across the common to porth joke beach and then back to holywell on the coastal path, even saw seals!
good fish and chip shop in cubert village which you pass through on the way to trevornick.
My only criticism is that the toilets and showers could have been cleaner but I think that is a criticism of the users of the facilities rather than the campsite maybe.
The launderette was very good, even had irons set up to use.We didn't use the swimming pool but it looked nice. Useful shop on site selling most things. This is a holiday park that is great for families and dog owners in a lovely location.
My opinion of Trevornick is slightly different to the ones given!
I visited Trevornick last year and although I wanted to try some where different we returned this year - family that we went with like the park because it is so dog friendly and the walk to the beach is good. Although if you are going for this reason check that the local beach Holy bay still lets dogs on as there was a warden trying to clean the beach as the local council are thinking of banning dogs.
We took our trailer tent, the pitch sizes are really good. However if you want to go to sleep before 12:00 then don't forget your ear plugs as it is a noisy site - there were a few people talking about this, as nobody appears to ensure that the 11pm quiet rule is kept.
The shower cubicles are small and some of the smaller blocks do not have any where to put your clothes. Just one hook on the back of the door - The other problem is the temperature, if you go when it is busy then they are warm but if you go at a quiet time then they are roasting - way to hot for trying to wash young children - You are therefore given no other option than to pay £5 per week plus another £5 deposit for the family bathrooms. Also a silly little point but there are just not enough soap dispensers in the toilets and if someone is using the first sink you can not get to the soap.
The shop is very good and some of the meat is actually better value than the local morison's. The hire shop is also very good although a little on the expensive size.
The swimming pool is warm for an outside one, although I think that perhaps ball games in the pool should be banned as it's not really big enough for this.
Finally the children's entertainment, the club house is very small so the dance floor is tiny, the entertainment for over 5/6's is ok, but the younger ones don't get a look in the only option is a selection of broken pencils.
We visited this site together with another family. On our arrival the site was quite well organised as the majority of people were arriving on the saturday.
The toilet blocks are cleaned regularly, but there is no places to put clothes etc in the showers or family bathrooms. The family bathrooms are five pounds for the key. We also rented a bbq etc which was filthy and broken when we collected it but when we returned it in the state we received it in they kept our deposit.
The site is very large and the roads throughout the site are very narrow- which makes it dangerous when you are walking with children at night. Our pitch was large and in a good spot but that was pure luck I think. All the other campers were lovely although the staff weren't always that nice.
There is no noise from the funpark on site- but the funpark is expensive. The beach is a long walk away and our four year old couldn't do it back up the hill, we thought that the campsite was closer to the beach than it actually is.
The pub next to hollywall beach does lovely meals although the local cider is very strong. We paid £320 for a weeks camping here and I feel we could have got better for that money. We also had to be off the pitch on our last day for 10am which wasn't easy. The on-site shop and cafe etc are very very expensive too.
I probably wouldn't go here again as I feel it is overpriced. Also there was a lot of noise and parties after 11pm- which didn't bother us but I spoke to other campers who were being kept awake at night by some other inconsiderate campers who screamed and shouted till 1am.
Just come back, very nice site. Well organised on arrival. We were in Sun field so a short walk away from the main parts of the site. We didn't go to the club or use the food outlets so can't comment on them, the shop and hire place were v well stocked and helpful. We used the pool which was lovely and warm.
My only negative comment would be about the lack of recycling facilities at the bin areas and the lack of pavements which meant that there were constantly people / children walking in the road which was a challenge on some occasions.
We visited Holywell Bay which was lovely, also I went to Polly Joke which was just up the road, also a lovely beach. V quiet and beautiful.
I'm not sure if we will go back as there are many, many more campsites I'd like to try but would recommend it to anyone.
The toilet/showers were throughout the day very clean but late at night the lowlife come out and trash them so I take my hat off to the cleaner/s 1 of which works in the hire shop.
Talking about the hire shop. Very well stocked, very helpful (we forgot the charger for the camera so dave who runs the hire shop brought his own in and charged it for us for £1.50) they're also reasonably priced.
The site shop is quite well stocked although a little expensive but that's to be expected of all holiday site shops. Laundrette is very clean, reasonably priced with free ironing facilities.
Fun park isn't too bad and if you want too make your tokens last longer go in the maze.
The on site takeaway is average for food quality
The pitch sizes are large and well kept and yes you are supposed to be gone by 10.00 am but this is so they can check the pitch, cut the grass and have the next occupiers on the pitch at a reasonable time which is what we all want.
Last but not least the local beach is a nightmare to get to if you walk through the dunes. Don't try it with little ones we never tried to get to it by car we will this year.
The kids club was great for the little one and we went most days. The entertainment staff work hard throughout the day and evening. The toilets and showers were always clean and we were there during peak season. I only had to queue twice for a shower.
The whole site was very clean, no rubbish anywhere and the bins were emptied daily around the site. I had a facial and pedicure at the Spa and it was beautiful – the best facial I’ve ever had. We ate on site a few evenings and the food was good.
The beach is a fairly long walk down through sand dunes but it is a nice walk – probably takes a good 20 minutes with all your gear, body boards, buckets and spades etc. The beach is beautiful though. My husband and eldest son did a weekly pass at golf and they really enjoyed it too – always came back with a smile and a few stories.
We went to the fun park too and it was OK for the 5 year old and the eldest enjoyed the go-karts. As I said, we were there for 2 weeks and we only went off site twice (apart from a trip to the supermarket) and that was for a look round Newquay and a trip to Minack and St Ives.
It’s just brilliant and we will be booking again for next year.
Visited Tevornick for 10 days late June 2010 based on feedback from this site and was not disappointed. The staff are friendly and helpful. The site is superb, large pitches, great views, on-site facilities included a clubhouse (dogs were allowed in), cafe and great shop.
Played golf on the 18 hole par 3 next to the site on 3 occasions (7am start and paid when I completed), challenging course and well worth the £10 per round as I was stopping at Trevornick.
I am looking to go back either late September or next summer.
