We didn't book just turned up one Saturday afternoon and they had space in the bottom field which wasn't as well kept as the main, in fact it was freshly mown and uncollected overgrown grass (so loads of the stuff) and very lumpy ground. However it was our first camping trip and the only site with vacancies we were fed up and knew no better. Having said that we had a great time, only there for one night and it was lovely and quiet - only 3 tents in our field. The site is so peaceful and picturesque with a stream at the bottom of our field which my duaghter had great fun paddling in. The steam railway and view of the snowdonia mountains added to the romance, it was idyllic.
Toilets and showers were adequete and clean, we didn't go to the pub (we brought our own in our coolbox!)although it looked nice and there is a kids play area in the beer garden. A nice place if you want to keep it relaxing and simple. Oh and you get used to the cockrel!!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at this campsite for 2 nights on the 11th and 12th July. We were really lucky to have nice weather so certainly didn't experience any flooding problems.
The campsite was really pretty and although I was a bit wary that you had to book a place over the phone (and therefore not choose your plot when you go there), all the spaces had plenty of room and were scattered around the edge of the campsite. The campsite itself is not huge and there are lots of trees and shrubs for shelter (its not just an open field).
The showers/toilets were a bit far away I suppose. You have to walk over the railway to get to them in the next field. I think they may be planning to use this next field for more camping as although overgrown, there seemed to be water taps scattered around. The shower / toilet block was very clean but the 2 showers were quite small and apart from a peg on the back of the door there was no-where else to put soap etc apart from on the floor. I find this very annoying! The showers are free but I think I would prefer to pay 20p and have a bit more water flow. They were hot but you had to virtually lay aginst the wall to get wet. It was quite difficult to wash hair! One evening the water was also boiling hot!
As most people have mentioned in their reviews, there is a farm next door with lots of free range animals roaming around. We were right next to this field and yes the cockerels were noisy but after waking up at 4.30am i was able to get straight back to sleep. Its all part of the experience, camping and listening to chickens, hens, ducks, cockerels and even horses foraging around in the field next door. I dont think its anything to do with the campsite anyway so its not as if they can do anything about it.
We ate at the pub at the campsite on both nights. The food was good value and although nothing fancy was nice when you were starving hungry and with generous portions.
If you are stuck for things to do in the day, give Caernarfon castle a visit as this was quite nice. Also you obviously have to go up Snowdon whether you walk or catch the train. We caught the train up which was extremely cramped on such a hot day and also quite expensive at £14 each for a single!!. The views are fantastic though and its certainly worth the walk down!! MAke sure you get there early on nice days though. We got there at 10 and the train up was already fully booked untill 11.30. It was soon full for the whole afternoon.

We stayed at this site for a long weekend, found it clean and tidy, showers hot although not very powerful, cockrel.... oh yeah he was still there, have to say though that we soon got used to the noise.
If your into trains then great site as steam railway passes the middle of the site. Must add that they really are not that noisy.
Main problem we had was the midgies, seemed to appear late afternoon and stay till morning, think they were immune to citronella candles.
Found that there wasnt much room between pitches. Great pub lunch and nice beer sat in the garden, bouncy castle and play park for the little ones.

This is the second time we have visited this site. Although not the best in the world it's ok for a weekend break.
The pub which is across the car park from the site is great. They serve wholesome value for money meals. Although the notice says they serve until about 8.15 one night we were there they stopped earlier because they couldn't cope. A bit of a let down if your starving hungry, but there is a chippy down the road. They have a separate children's room which is great. If like us your little ones have grown up and flown the nest you don't want to be bothered with children running about all the time, just a quiet drink. The pub also had a pool table, dart board, and a juke box although this left a lot to be desired, it wasn't very loud and the tracks weren't exactly the latest!
The campsite itself is adequate. It was quite muddy near where we pitched and all through the weekend they kept trying to put people on a pitch that was nothing more than a mud bath. They didn't have any takers, one chap went and got his money back. The showers and toilets are very small but were clean although not the most palacial we have encountered and being across the railway from the campsite was not ideal.
The cockrell was a real pain also, when on holiday who wants to be woken at the crack of dawn by that. It didn't end there though, it continued all through the day.
Good points for this site - Pub selling good value for money food, separate kids room. Lovely views
Bad points - Small showers across the railway line. The cockrel!
