We stayed at this site for 6 nights at the end of august( 27th-2ndsept.)
When we arrived we were disappointed as the site in no way resembled the picture posted on its web page.
Good points:
Beautiful scenery Good location for exploring the area Food and Beer at pub were good
Bad points:
Staff at pub did not bother to show you pitch or facilities. Toilet and shower block were basic and you paddled in water every morning to take a shower Only one sink in Ladies with no plug, so impossible to wash young children who are frightened of showers. Plus you had to walk over the railway bridge to get to shower block. Mens shower block was exactly the same, maybe a mop and bucket left in each of the shower blocks would have helped a little. Unisex toilets on main site were really awful they smelt, and it wasn't that hot while we were there.Plus the hand drier did not work. Pitches were very close together, and grass was long and site was pure mud in places.
We felt that the charges for this site were expensive
We read a review of this site advertising it as 'probably the best pub camp site in the world'.
The staff were friendly and the location is great for exploring the snowdonia national park.
The facilities were disappointing. As a previous reviewer has written there were a large amount of spiders and flies in the shower block. The block was also small but was cleaned daily.
The pub was basic but relaxed. The food was good pub food nothing special but decent. The portions were huge!
The site over the railway lines gets very waterlogged in wet weather.
The site has its own train station with a steam train which is good fun. You can travel to Caernarfon or to Rhyd ddu were you can take one of the easier routes up snowdon.
All in all probably not the best pub campsite in the world but not too bad.
This is a lovely campsite in terms of views and location for visiting the Snowdonia National Park area. It has a pub on site that serves good food at reasonable prices, and a train that passes through the site.
With these positives, it is such a shame that the owner has not invested in suitable facilities for the number of people that stay on the site. The showers and the two shared toilets are very basic, with toilets no cleaner or better (no seats) than your average town centre arrangement.
I would go back to the site, as long as I was staying one night only, the views are beautiful and the location is, as said, great for touring. The hens, cockerels etc are not all bad, if you are by the road you can hardly hear them!
If you go into Beddgelert, you can get a reasonably priced, good meal at the Sarecens.
The ground was fairly bumpy and yes we had the unfortunate please of the geese, cockerels, ducks and what ever else was in the farmyard next door. No wonder our neighbours were getting an early night, they know what was coming, alarm call at 4am.
Shower block basic
We did enjoy the copper mine trip and Beddgelert is a very traditional village, some 8 miles away with beautiful craft shops, pubs and the nearest camping shop that we could find.
Well this is my kind of camp-site. Surrounded by lovely scenery, hills all around and a great pub just the other side of the car park. The pub had a good variety of real ales which just begged to be sampled and the food was spot on, good sized portions and a nice choice.
Site was easy to find, just take the Beddgelert road out of Caernarfon and it was about 5 mins. I didn't find the owners particularly friendly and the bar staff were hardly jolly, but they were all polite and efficient.
The main toilet/shower/wash up facilities were over the railway which meant a bit of a walk, but there was a small unisex 2 loo block in the corner of the camping field which was much more convenient. The shower rooms were rather small and you had to do a bit of shuffling around to get dry, but for a weekend break its not so bad.
We had rain but the field never got boggy.
The site is not too big, so felt quite cosy, plenty of room on the pitch.
Yes, the cockeral did crow around 5am and kept it up at intervals after that. The road is also pretty close so there is some noise from that.
We paid £12 per night for the 2 of us, a family tent would have been £16, so I felt a little pricey for somewhere with basic facilities.
Glanllyn is situated on the shore of Lake Bala in Wales. 16 acres of natural parkland and spectacular views of nearby hills and mountains make it an idyllic spot to pitch a caravan, motorhome, tent or campervan with level grass or hardstanding pitches. For water sports enthusiasts there is a private shingle beach with easy launching area for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding. Camp shop, wifi, laundrette, excellent heated toilet & shower facilities. The market town of Bala is 3 miles away with plenty of small shops, pubs & retaurants, cinema and a leisure centre. We spent one night there recently and didn't manage to get any sleep. The fun started about 12.30am when the pub closed, I guess, as there was lots of screaming and shouting. There is no security so the party continued until the group of about 20 youngsters decided they had enough. The facilities were acceptable and the pub seemed okay.
We stayed at this campsite for 2 nights on our first trip this year we only used a 2 man tent as the kids stayed at home. The staff were friendly enough (but didn't smile much) and we were given a pitch quite quickly, we were also told as we were pitching the tent that we couldn't park the car by the tent- it had to be left on the car park (shame this rule didn't apply to all campers that weekend, many still had cars by tents).
The toilets on the field are shared by both men and women and there's only 2 they where clean enough but there was no toilet roll one night so be prepared, there was no hot water and the hand dryer didn't work. The shower block over the bridge was a bit basic only 1 sink in the ladys for a wash and no plug and no hot water. We had dinner in the pub and the food was really nice and the prices weren't to bad for food or drink.
Children are very welcome and there was a large family room although there was nothing in there for the kids to do. We won't be going back to this site as we feel the web site was a bit miss leading. Oh and the cockerel wasn't as bad as I thought it would be he was quiet entertaining really.
You know, camping is all about compromise regardless of what type of unit you have i.E. Tent, motorhome or whatever.
My wife and myself stayed 3 nights from 19/21 April. Although we have all facilities in our motorhome i.E. Hot and cold water, shower, toilet etc. We decided to use the site facilities, basic as they might be, which to be honest we found o.K. The showers were hot and were clean enough, and there is nothing wrong with walking to a shower block in the morning with a bar of soap and a bottle of shampoo wrapped in a towel, even if it is the other side of the tracks. I think it all adds to the fun.
The adjacent pub which is part of the site is first class, what with it's variety of real ales and excellent food, and plenty of it.
What a bonus having the Welsh Highland Railway stopping right on your doorstep. A bit expensive though at £17.50 each.
We paid £16 + £2 for hook up which in general terms is about right. Value for money? I would say so and would visit again. If you want the Ritz you won't get it for that money, if you want better then go elsewhere and pay more. You get what you pay for.
Stayed here in August this year for a hiking holiday. Centrally sited, close to town of Carnafern where they have a fair sized Tescos and large Somerfield, as close to the rural areas of north Snowdonia,Angelsey not far and worth a visit great beaches. The campsite had a great facility of a communual freezer, so it is easy to stock up on burgers etc. For the week, you had to be trusting but you leave your tent and all it's contents unguarded all day, not saying that we came across any crime whilst there. Site secure in the fact you have to go through a gate but didn't see anyone patroling. Site very basic, you have to cross the mountain railway line to reach the toilets/showers, there are gates and the trains hoot when they are coming. Theres a river down the path, great for washing muddy dogs. Showers etc. Adequate only three in the ladies but I didn't have to wait for one to be free all week, don't know what everyone else did in the mornings! The mens reportedly were dirtier. I believe they are all being revamped for next season. Yes the cockeral crowed very early every morning, didn't bother us most days as the noise was drowned by the rain. It rained every night but was nice in the day. Pub on site very friendly, reasonably priced food, staff all very helpful. The reception is in the pub and it's hard to get assistance if the pub is shut unless you catch their attention through the window. You need to get tokens to use the electric in the washing/drying room, which again a nusience if the pub is shut. All in all a basic small, friendly site centrally located, we had a great week
First impressions. It was a lovely site - beautiful mountain views and a cosy corner in which to pitch our tent. Owners very friendly. We went with friends and were allocated pitches 30, 31 and 32. These happened to be backing onto the farm with the infamous cockerel(s)! We didn't expect them to start before daylight, but just after 5am, there was an almighty din from the cockerels, geese and ducks which continued through the morning. This was resolved for our second night. A trip to the chemist to buy some earplugs we had a wonderful night's sleep. The shower blocks were fairly clean but tiny, with nowhere to put anything and only one washbasin in the ladies! Shame, as it was otherwise a great site, with the Welsh Highland Railway running alongside and a pub serving copious portions of good pub grub.
