We've just returned from a lovely week at Clippesby Hall, despite the lovely British weather. The site is arranged in different sections, each section having different qualities. We stayed in Heath and it was perfect. Heath has 8 pitches and as the campsite wasn't very busy only two of those pitches were used. And even better we weren't positioned next to each other! So often have we been to campsites that are half empty only to be given a pitch next to another tent or caravan.
The site is perfectly organised, there is a section for everyone. The Dell has lovely large secluded pitches, but no electrical hook-up that we could see. Heath was lovely and secluded also. But there were sections with lots of open space and areas for kids to run around. Rabbits Grove looked a perfect middle ground.
The toilets were clean although could have perhaps done with an extra clean in the day due to all the muddy foot prints from the very soggy ground. The shower cubicles were brilliant, a proper shower enclosure with an area to dry off. And the addition of hairdryers was a bonus.
The on-site pub was lovely if a bit expensive. It's not a '2-for-£10' style pub and this was reflected in the quality of food as well as the prices. I would definitely recommend a visit and the burgers were delicious. If you have better weather than us then the patio area would be perfect for a late evening drink.
I would definitely recommend Clippesby Hall to any type of camper, whether you prefer open-plan kid friendly sites or a bit of secluded bliss. We didn't have many pigeons where we were, but there were pheasants, rabbits and friendly peacocks.
We loved this campsite! Neither my partner nor I had been camping for about 20 years and this was definitely a great place to start again.
We had a great pitch up in Rabbit Grove, sheltered by trees and less than 100 yards from the shower facilities and wash up area. The site was clean and well kept and the showers/toilet facilities excellent (they have hairdryers for the ladies - thank goodness!). The pitches (allocated) are nicely spaced out and Rabbit Grove is a small woody area which gave us just enough privacy without feeling isolated. With the exception of the pigeon dawn chorus (!), it was lovely and quiet and the other campers were respectful of the peaceful surroundings.
We loved the Muskett Arms Bar/Restaurant at the top of the site. Great staff, great food (which includes a kids menu), excellent service with a buzzy atmosphere – a really nice place to sit relax in the evening. We went out of school holiday time so our weekend had a more adult feel to it. However, I'm sure families would more than enjoy it and are welcome in the bar and restaurant
All in all, we'd thoroughly recommend this campsite as a relaxing place to stay in the middle of the Norfolk Broads and would definitely go there again. Enjoy!
We've just spent a fantastic weekend at Clippesby and will be going back for definite. The site is beautiful, very well kept, toilets and showers etc are very clean and of an extremely high standard. All the staff we met there were so friendly and sooo helpful. The pub serves good food at reasonable prices and in nice atmosphere. My son and his friend spent all weekend exploring and none of us wanted to leave. We will be visiting again soon. Thank you Clippesby for a lovely time.
Just spent a lovely week at Clippesby! It's a very pretty site, with everything you need to make your holiday a good one! There is a coffee shop, Susie's, which sells WONDERFUL cakes, and serves snacks too. There is a lovely family friendly pub, the Muskett Arms, which serves great food! The ameneties are clean. The pitches are large and well laid out. We had a hardstanding super pitch, which was very well placed for everything. There is a crazy golf course, play area, football pitch and a badminton net. There is also a laundry. The camp shops sells all sorts of bits and pieces, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We will be going back! We even had snow!
Our group of 12 stayed for two night in the Dell and despite the previous months rain the effects weren't too bad thanks to gravel paths and slight slopes. Every aspect of this site was spot on with super friendly staff, water taps close by, easy recycling, plentiful parking.
Showers were hot, powerful, clean and free. The mini bathroom toilet/sink cubicles are a really great idea with space to put you stuff down without it getting wet or dirty.
Susie's stocked great items, delicious food, generous portions and great value. Ideal for comfort food on a drizzly weekend.
The Muskett Arms served great food and beer with (genuinely funny) entertainment for the kids on the Friday night only, giving a more pub like feel on Saturday night. Food was delicious, big portions, reasonably priced and not too long a wait considering it was packed to the rafters - definitely arrive early if you want a table.
Fab swimming pool, grass tennis courts and a large football pitch and grass area with play ground equipment.
This large site feels much more intimate thanks to the layout, I will definitely be back!
Brilliant site, nice surroundings to camp in, lots of wildlife around (some noisy birds though!). Good park / playground for the children. Shower blocks and toilets were aplenty and cleaned regularly. Good pub on site, friendly staff. Shop on site selling essentials. Would reccomend and would use again.
Nothing really to add to the comments of others who have stayed here - a first class site, with excellent facilities and friendly staff. We stayed at the top of Rabbits Grove, the bottom end seemed a little damp, but then we have had a wet summer. Just one problem Too many pigeons.
After travelling 250miles to get to this campsite we were not disappointed. Arrived late afternoon and a warm welcome met us in reception which continued throughout the week in all areas of the campsite. Pitched our T-Tent in the "Orchard "section and made our only mistake of the week! Just underneath the branches where a couple of pigeons roosted. Suffice to say I spent the week shooing them away to stop them making a mess on the edge of the canvas roof.(unsuccessfully!) The facilities were excellent if a little busy at times (week before Aug. Bank Holiday). Muskett Arms Pub very sociable but you must get there early in the evening if you want a table as the food is good and are ample portions. A pity about the weather as we would have made more of the campsite itself but the Broads have plenty for all ages to occupy everyone. Recommend the Ferry Inn at Horning, Sunday carvery is very good so expect a bit of a wait in line!. Norwich Cathedral is definitely worth a visit if you are so inclined as is the city itself (plenty of designer shops for the Ladies!). We will be back in the not too distant future, just hope the weather will be better.
What a fabulous site this is. We don't usually go to big sites but were very pleased with Clippesby, despite the weather.
There are different areas to pitch, open grass for children to run, and more enclosed areas in the woods for peace and seclusion. Our pitch was damp when we arrived and got worse, but the weather was unusual for June.
The Muskett Arms on site is a real pub, not a club, and the local food is very good and reasonably priced. There were several real ales and a local cider on draft, and there is a nice patio.
The cafe, shop, laundry and games areas are beautifully kept, and there is space to walk dogs etc. We found the staff very helpful, and hope John and Sue's dog is ok. We found several nice places to eat in the area, and can highly recommend the Lavender House near Norwich for a special occasion but you need to book. Will be back next year for the Beer Festival.
Just to echo most others really. We have just come back from Clippesby and found that it was nearly everything that was promised. We were in Rabbit's Grove and had a bit of a problem with water (squelchy ground sheet) although the fact that it has rained for a month probably didn't help. Pitch very sloping though, chocks needed on the TT and problems getting the awning right. Fantastic that they had a bath available for those with young kids and we only saw that being abused once. Water pressure not good though, the site was full and the system obviously not coping very well. Lots of flying horrors, if you react to bites (like my husband) take lots of repellent! Boys both enjoyed Sea Palling beach and also Norwich Castle museum when it rained. It is a very beautiful site - I miss it already!
First visit June 2007. Excellent site, better than expected. Well laid-out and roomy pitches, some in the woods and some in the open. We were on Heath which proved very wet in the very heavy rain, and did not dry out the whole time we were there. Our pitch (54) had a pool of water inside the awning. The staff are all very friendly, professional and helpful, and the pub/restaurant had a great atmosphere, good local ale and food. Would appreciate children going at about 9.00 as a bit noisy, although this was probably because of the rain - warm nights would have found them all outside. Shop & cafe very good. Loos and showers new and very clean, although would imagine they are very busy in the high season as only two blocks. Lots of recycling which we like. Will hopefully return for beer festival next year. Hope John & Sue's dog ok soon.
Our third visit to this lovely site. We only live 3 miles away and came with friends/family for our daughter's birthday for the second year. The weather was very unsettled, torrential rain followed by brilliant sunshine, but the children had a wail of a time. We all enjoyed the pool, the crazy golf and the tennis courts, and never left the site all weekend. The staff are really friendly and helpful, both with pitching up and were on hand to get anyone off if they were stuck. Will be back again next year!
We had 2 glorious nights here in the Pine Woods camping section of Clippesby. From the moment you pull into the big gates, the park feels safe and cosy! The reception staff are very friendly, the drove us up to our pitch and showed us the best place to pitch the tent. Although our pitch was slightly lop sided, it was large, well maintained and very nice. The Pine Woods was busy but in no way overcrowded. Plenty of spaces between pitches for the car etc. The toilets were situated just behind the pitch we had but that was not an issue, no noise etc at all. The toilets / showers were fab! Proper shower cubicles like you have at home, copious amounts of hot water and they were extremely extremely clean! Cleaned twice a day to an exceptionally high standard. The shop is fab, stocks a small amount of food but a lot of local produce. You can even order fresh bread for the following morning! The kids playground is ok, the swimming pool looked great. Bit cold for a dip tho! Overall, this is a fantastic park and I would HIGHLY recommend it to all who want a peaceful break. We took my 8 yr old son for his first ever camping trip and I am so glad we chose Clippesby! Will be booking again very very soon!
We found this site through the Guardian Camping Guide and we're glad we did! We were personally shown our (ample) pitch and all staff were very helpful. The toilet/shower and washing up block was clean; the freezer/laundry room had everything you could want (who irons whilst camping?); the shop stocked everything you could need; the play area and swimming pool was very popular with our young ones - and the pub was very popular with us! We shall be visiting again very soon!
Excellent Site!. Probably the best site we have stayed at. There was something for the whole family. Our kids daughter 10 and son 8 thought the playground, tennis courts and just playing in the woods great. There is a pool but due to the bad weather we had we did not get to use it. pub was good and the coffee shop had Internet access so we could email family. Our pitch was in the rabbits grove as my wife and daughter liked the name. This was sloping but very secluded with only 3 units in our part. You will need a torch at night as it was so dark. There are larger fields that are flatter and hard standing pitches. We needed the full length of our 25m EHU to reach the power. Make sure you order fresh bread and croissants from the shop they are fantastic for breakfast. The location of the site means it is easy to get to the Broads and the coast. We used the park and ride to visit Norwich £3.20 to park the car including the bus to and from the city for the whole family, Great day out. Toilets and showers we first class however at certain times (early morning and evening) the showers were very busy and water was a bit hit and miss but avoid these times they were fine. Overall a fantastic site just wish you could guarantee the weather.
