Visited this site at the end of July/beginning of August with OH and 2 boys (other half left after 2 nights and boys and I stayed a further 3) and I have to say this is a fabulous site!
It is big yet small, all the facilities are within reach yet with enough space for every pitch to feel private.
The children loved cycling and playing in the fab play areas, the mini golf, the small pool (although freezing ) was fun, the football pitch and tennis court all were accessible.
The little shop had the essentials and the fresh bread to order in the mornings was very popular with big queues.
The site was friendly and the pitches in our area rabbit grove were not uniform, other areas were more uniform but the layout and quality of the grass and the pathways etc all led to a spacious yet cosy quality site.
A man in a tractor escorts you to your site and makes sure you are ok before disappearing off, staff are present but discrete keeping the grounds nice.
The toilets and bathrooms were fitted out to a high standard although there were water temp problems on one day which the rectified very quickly, but you had to queue for showers and unfortunately there were a lot of inconsiderate campers (toilet paper all over floor/ toilets not flushed etc).
All in all though a site I felt comfortable at being on my own with the children and one I would definitely return too( if there is ever an available pitch!). Lust make sure you have a long lead if you use ehu!
We are a family of four with 2 kids aged 10yrs and 7yrs and have just returned from an 8 night stay at Clippesby. This being our first visit to this site.
A first class reception was given to us upon arrival. The rangers showed us to our pitch.
Lovely friendly staff all round.
Our pitch was a good size at the top of South Park, good soft grass pitch with space in the middle for kids to play etc.
The site itself is immaculate, well maintained pitches, very pretty and peaceful. There are some noisy peacocks on site too !
Fantastic kids play areas, zip wire, swings, climbing ropes, tennis courts and woods to play in. Our two children loved it.
One day we hired some bikes from the site. The staff we encountered were excellent, very knowledgeable and helpful. We were given a 15 mile route to try which we all really enjoyed.
All in all a premium site apart from two little
Moans :
1. Outside pool freezing even on a sunny day (not heated) and very small for size of site.
2. As this site commands premium prices for a pitch the shower and toilet blocks should also be top notch but they are not.
Although clean (most of the time) they are small and dark. The showers are right by the main front door to block so can get cold and breezy at times. It would be nice to have separate private sinks and a decent mirror/hairdryer area for the ladies loos ( they are in communal entrance where the men have to walk passed to get to their loos and sinks.
Also there is a lack of sinks in the gents the only ones being adjacent to the urinals which is not a nice place to have a wash and brush your teeth !
We have just returned from another great long weekend at Clippesby Hall (our 3rd in 4 years).
This site has always been one of our favourites and it was great to see that they haven't rested on their laurels and have improved it even more since our last visit in May 2009.
As always, the check in was very polite and efficient and even though we have stayed there before were escorted to our pitch.
We stayed in Rabbits Grove for the first time and had a pitch perfectly big enough for our Vermont L plus a large gazebo (it was nice to not have to pay a premium for the latter as with other sites).
This area is nicely secluded, with only 4 or 5 other pitches visible and so we had plenty of space for badminton around the tent. The children really enjoyed building dens in the very safe little wood next to the pitch. The pitches were nicely maintained, good firm lush grassy ground. Slight incline but didn't cause an issue and helped the torrential rain drain away very quickly.
We camped with another family (we have 2 kids age 7 and 10, they have 3 kids aged 7, 10 and 12).
The staff were happy to let us bbq and offered to bring us bricks to keep the bbq off the ground.
The play area is fantastic with huge sandpit, swings, rocket climbing frame and football pitch. It is located next to a beautifully maintained new walled garden on the way to the Muskett Arms pub. We ate in the pub one night as a treat which was excellent (food, service, beer/wine and value). Main courses, 2 bottles of wine plus beer and soft drinks for 9 of us came in at £110 (about £8 for a huge fish and chips). Very friendly staff.
I could go on all day about what a great time we had and can't criticise anything other that then very minor issue with needing to queue for 5-10 mins for showers at prime time (8-10am) - they are very modern facilities though and kept very clean.
All in all a really lovely site. Children were disappointed that we only stayed for 3 days as they didn't get much time to play of the incredible new climbing frame/zip wire (although we did take them to Bewiderwood!) or play minigolf.
We have just returned from a two night break at Clippesby Hall and while the weather was very kind to us and probably influences me positively, I can't recommend this campsite enough.
We were a group of four families and our children, aged 6 months to 9 years, all had a wonderful time. The older ones disappeared shortly after we arrived at the site and over the three days appeared only to announce they were hungry/thirsty.
There was plenty to do on the site to keep families entertained, lovely play areas, a zip wire, a swimming pool with baby pool, tennis courts, football pitch etc. For those in need of further entertainment, a kids disco was laid on at the Muskett Arms on the Friday evening and there was guided canoeing on the Saturday.
Our welcome pack included a guide to the surrounding area plus circular cycle routes (it is possible to hire bikes on site).
We didn't eat in the Muskett Arms but the menu contained a good range of pub grub. The coffee shop sold delicious takeaway pizzas and you can preorder bread and croissants for breakfast, which we did and they were lovely. A local Indian delivers to the site and this was very reasonable.
Clippesby's location on the Norfolk Broads means there is day boat hire within easy reach, and a short drive takes you to the coast at Great Yarmouth or several quieter beaches.
There are peacocks at the campsite (a little noisy in the early hours but lovely) and lots of other wildlife - there is a spotters board in the cafe/shop.
Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, helpful and polite, even when gently reminding us that they ask for quiet after 11pm!
The only slight downside is that the toilets and showers, while clean, are just not very nice. This may just be in comparison to West Runton, which I know sets the bar high but it was a very small niggle in what was a lovely break. The children are already asking when we'll be back!
I chose this site after reading the positive reviews left by others.
I agree that it is a very nice site with lots of things to keep the children amused but, after reading comments which said that the toilet/shower blocks were 'very modern, amazing, and impressive', I arrived with high expectations. However, the reality was very disappointing. They just do not come up to the standard of many other popular sites.
It seems such a shame that this is the case because if the blocks were improved this would be a first class site.
We stayed for two nights at half term - just a short stay to try it out as handy for friends and family. Very busy first night (but didn't feel it as so much space and trees - and quiet at night) - very quiet the second (sunday - everyone else went home but our school had a training day on the monday).
We used lots of the facilities - play areas, pool (bit small for size of campsite but a bonus all the same), pub (good food and child friendly as I guess you'd expect), bike hire (highly recommend - very helpful - our younger daughter learned to ride a bike at clippesby hall - its so flat in the surrounding area that our older daughter (7) did a 15 mile route (maps are provided) with no problems).
But still felt there was lots we could do for future visits - want to return to try out crazy golf, badminton, cafe etc.
Loos clean and very pleasant - didn't have to queue for showers even though half term- our nearest toilet block shut for cleaning at a slightly inconvenient time but not a big deal and a small price to pay for clean facilities.
You can pre-order bread and croissants - don't rely on them for breakfast for hungry kids though as they weren't ready when said they'd be - this may have been a one-off as staff looked a bit harassed.
Kids absolutely loved their stay here - made friends even though we weren't here for long - we all are keen to do a return visit. Lived up to our high expectations.
This is one of our favourites, it's a super place that has all you need,
There's not a bad pitch here. The customer service is perfect from booking to leaving and the showers etc are great,
The site is spotless and the pitches are huge, you can choose from hidden away spots to large open fields. There's loads for the kids including a great cycle track through the woods,
We found a lovely little beach at Winterton on sea.
The only downside is you have to book very early and it is getting quite pricey. We have already booked again
We have just returned from a four day break at Clippesby. Our party consisted of two families and 6 children between us and we couldn't have chosen a better campsite. The weather was glorious, the campsite immaculate, the showerblocks amazing and the staff very friendly and helpful. There are two main playareas and plenty of space for the kids to run around. Absolutely fabulous. We immediately wanted to re-book upon our departure, but, alas, they are fully booked this Summer (2011). Not surprising, really. But we will continue to call and hope for a cancellation!
Just spent 2 nights 26/27th had booked 3 but site was 95% empty so left as kids were bit lonesome in south park on their own. The plus side, well landscaped spacious pitches, kids playground good but surrounded by nettles! Modern clean toilets. Well located for Broads and Bewilderwood. The bad, it was freezing but bright weather, no heating on in shower blocks. No warden available after 5pm. Prices £5.25 for kids burger n chips £8.25 for adults, decent quality apparently, but that's £30 for 2adults 2 small kids.
There's no village in walking distant about 10mins drive to nearest which as co-op, no other pub in walking distance. We did get noise from the A road in to early hours. Overall we paid £39.25 for 2 adults a 6 and 10 year old, awning and electric. We were told when we rang to book it was nearly full for this week as were the other couple campers ! In the bar there's a kids room with pay slot machines/arcade, its only suitable for over 14s, nothing for young girls or boys, but you could put 50p in a machine for a sticker !
This site is truly magnificent, beautiful trees and thoughtfully divided up into different areas to suit various needs. Sadly we were there at a very rainy time and had to park the motorhome on the access road as the grass was so muddy and slippery you could hardly walk on it. There are hardstandings but they are far away from the ablution blocks, of which there seemed to be only two. At this time of year we were on our own 'in the woods' but somehow the bathroom facilities were fairly busy with hardy camping families we never knew were there. So I wonder how busy they are when the place is full! Felt the tariff was a bit steep for this time of year, considering we couldn't avail ourselves of the facilities. Must be fabulous when the sun shines!
When we arrived on this site Norfolk had had a lot of rain and the site was fairly boggy. The site staff were very accommodating not only were they warm and welcoming but they actually towed us onto our pitch with their land rover. Once on our pitch (109 The Orchard) and set up we explored the site. We were right next to the toilet and shower block both of which were very clean and the water was nice and hot. Playgrounds children's heaven what more could kids ask for zip wirs, slides, climbing ropes and our 3 year old loved the firemans pole. There's a pub/restaurant on site, a laundry and shop/cafe and a pool cant comment on any of those we didn't use any of them. The site is in an ideal place for visiting. We visited Horsey wind pump windmill, Bewilderwood, Wroxham, Bure Valley railway, Great Yarmouth whilst there visited Yesterdays World all of those well worth visiting and all within half hours drive. As the week progressed the weather got nicer and we decided to stay an extra night the staff were fantastic very friendly, driving round the campsite each morning checking everythings ok,plenty of fire points, pitches don't seem crowded due to trees separating the fields it really is a lovely site very well thought out bike hire shop on site too. The staff also towed our caravan off our pitch very thoughtful. Would definitely return.
Just spent 4 nights at Clippesby Hall with friends who are new to camping. We chose Clippesby because we've been before and knew we could rely on their high standards.
We happened to choose the weekend of the beer festival, which we thoroughly enjoyed. All the team at this campsite are friendly, helpful and work hard to make the place what it is.
Although a big site, it is very well laid out into small areas in the woodlands. We had wo pitches in the Heath, a lovely, quiet setting, where we could never see more than 3 or 4 other tents from our pitch, but still near to the toilet block.
The toilets and showers are impressive, clean and well looked after and the water was always hot, even when busy. The only problem is that the shower cubicles in the ladies side are a bit small, making changing a bit of a challenge. The family room and other showers were quite spacious though.
We sampled the food and drink at the bar, beer festival and coffee shop and all come well recommended. There is free wifi in the bar and coffee shop.
We noticed that the bikes for hire were all new, but didn't use them this time. We have previously used routes recommended by the knowledgeable staff, which were excellent, its a good area to cyle as the roads are quiet and flat. In fact Clippesby is in a great location, right on the edge of the broads, only 2 miles from the picturesque Thurne and 4 from the larger Potter Heigham. From Potter Heigham you hire boats or take boat trips. It also has a very useful store that seems to sell everything including camping stuff if you need it. Also close enough for easy visits to Wroxham, Great Yarmouth and the coast as well as Norwich.
The shop had all the bits and peices you might need, plus some of their own branded products. The biscuits are yummy!
The only problem with this site is that it sets such a high standard for others to follow.
Just returned from a weeks stay at this excellent camp site.
We would found the facilities to be excellent although a few lights on the site on a night would be helpful especially on the walk back from the pub on site.
The facilities for kids are excellent with my little boy particularly enjoying the new wooden playground and zip wire.
We cannot wait for our return visit next year and our only regret is that we have missed the beer festival being held this weekend.
We would highly recommend this site both for the excellent set up and the very friendly and helpful staff. Keep up the good work.
Really pleasantly surprised as I didn't think I would like a site with so much laid on but it was great. We stayed on the orchard but have booked pitch 53 this year (smaller field of 8 pitches with lawn in the middle so quieter).
We have two boys who loved the new play area with zip wires and even a smaller one for toddlers. The BMX track is very cool too, the boys had fun running around it but will be on their bikes by next year.
Great for cycling. We hired bikes for them to get learning without stablisers and it worked a treat. The man in charge (Chris) was very helpful and there are a large number of sizes available. But it may be a good idea to pre book the ones you need!
The pub is great too with kids events on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. Good shop which has fresh breads in the morning, and can order pizza for the evening.
Norfolk is a great area too but we spent quite a lot of time in the campsite as there was so much to do.
We need to book for next year!
