Stayed for 4 nights in October half term and it was coming up to the end of their season. The staff were very helpful and friendly in all the areas and at any time of day.
The cafe was brilliant and there is a crazy golf course just outside.
Fresh bread and croissants where available to order daily(needed to order the day before).
The on site pub was great and the food very good, didn't think it was expensive. There was also real ale on, a big plus.
The swimming pool was closed for the season and so cannot comment.
The toilets where very clean and must have been cleaned more than twice a day. Showers good. Lots of hot water.
Took the bus to Great Yarmouth, had to book a mini bus from the site the day before to connect to the main bus route and worked really well.
After reading all the reviews about this site, I decided to book for a two week holiday with the kids in the summer. Be warned. Book early if you want to visit this site!We booked early January, only 1 pitch available for a fortnight stay in july/aug.
Starting with the facilities.
We were in Cedar Lawn, The pitches were of ample size and all placed on the extremities of the grassed area. This left plenty of room for the kids to play. The play area near the pool was sparse, with not much for the kids to play on. The tree in the middle of the camping area was the main attraction for playing!
The site was always quiet after dark and would advise a good torch as it is pitch black at night.
The toilet blocks in general were good and kept clean. Some extra showers would have been nice, as they were busy at usual peak times.
The swimming pool pictures make it look great!. Don't be fooled. The pool is very small and crowded most of the time, water quality was usually cloudy! due to the usage in nice weather.
Reception and Coffee shop were first class and very helpful.
I cannot comment on the musket arms pub on the site as we never went in.
All in all the site is made to look more glam in the brochure than what it is, Without trying to sound a typical caravanner. The site is mainly a camping site and 80% of the pitches were occupied by large tents. And at over £30 a night it is an expensive campsite.
The area in general was excellent, with plenty to do and excellent beaches near by. The broads had some very nice places to visit and the kids loved there days out.
We stayed peak season and the site was full. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, in reception, in the shop / cafe and for the cycle hire. The site is unique amongst those we have stayed at because of the lovely wooded environment and our two girls (4 and 7) loved playing in the woods with their new friends. They also loved the swimming pool (too small and cold for me!). There are some lovely and spacious play areas.
Most of the pitches are very good and spacious, indeed many people were re-booking particular pitches for next year. However, the pitch we were shown to on arrival was right next to the main access road to many of the other pitches and adjacent to the access to one of the camping fields. We were found another pitch after we complained and the new pitch was a good size and in a good location. There seemed to be a small number of pitches that were restricted or cramped or right on the access road. Also, quite a few of the pitches had a wood chip covering; these can cause punctures in ground sheets.
The showers were very smart, although some were a little tight, there were some queues at peak times.
We had a lovely holiday and this was a good location from which to explore the broads / visit the coast. Would recommend the boat trip at the nature reserve in Hickling. We would visit this site again but would book early and be fussy about the pitch.
We booked a few months in advance and managed to get 4 nights at the end of August which I understand is unusual because it is normally booked well in advance for peak periods.
Having read up on the site, I was excited and happy to pay the £35 a night for caravan and awning on the understanding this was an exceptional site.
Whilst the site is nice and wooded and the coffee shop and bakery a welcome bonus, I was quite disappointed in other aspects. The swimming pool was freezing and tiny and the playground had little equipment. The pub was situated in a ramshackled area of outbuildings and was not what I expected, although we did not actually eat there. Clippersy hall itself is fairly invisible - I certainly did not feel I was staying in the grounds of a period mansion as I expected from the photos.
All in all a nice site, but not sure how they justify the prices.
As for the area - brilliant. Had a picnic with 25 seals on the beach at horsey, took a 3 hour cruise on the broads on a small cruiser from wrexham and went to Bewilderwood. Recommend each of the above for a great day out.
This site is fabulous! Arrived to a very friendly welcome and was personally taken to our pitch which was in the rabbits grove, we were facing pine trees which the kids loved running in and out of. The shower and family bathroom were very good and cleaned twice a day, I only wish people would use the mops provided to clean the floor after themselves (not the site's fault). There is a pub on site which looked very nice and had a nice menu but we didn't use it, there is a large play area with football pitch and a few swings, climbing frame and a sandpit for the kids. The pool is small but nice (and cold I was told)! There is a separate small paddling pool for the little ones. There is a nice little cafe with wi-fi and the shop has fresh bread and cakes made to order. There is a very nice crazy golf course next to the shop for £2 a go and a playfield with nets. This site is in a great location, close to lots of lovely little towns to visit as well as the broads. We will definitely be returning to Clippesby but be aware that you need to book very early as it's a very popular site!
There was loads of space for the kids to run, explore and play. The pool was nice and warm and the pub although we did not eat there had a great atmosphere.
We hired bikes for 2 days and all enjoyed the 15 mile route with stop offs. The surrounding area had plenty to do, we visited Ranworth Broad, Strumpshaw Fen, Winterton on Sea beach: with its seal colony was definitely a highlight for us.
There is a minor gripe, as the site is obviously geared for families we were surprised at the small size of the shower cubicles, larger ones would have made it easier to wash and dress our little ones.
We have visited this camp site about 5 times in the last 3 years. The pitches are large and well spaced, unlike many sites. Even when the site is full, it does not feel at all cramped. The site is well laid out, and divided into separate areas by mature trees and woodland, the latter providing a great environment for activities such as 'den' building or 'nature' hunting. Our children (8 and 6 years) took delight in having their 'finds' recorded on the board in reception.
The shower blocks are very clean and well maintained. Other on-site facilities are excellent - an outdoor swimming pool, good play area, pub/restaurant (good selection of local beers), shop (basic groceries and freshly baked bread), cafe, laundry, plenty of washing-up sinks etc. Some activities, such as archery are also available - we had a fun morning. There is also cycle hire available, and staff provide helpful advice about cycle routes etc. There is some evening entertainment in the on-site pub. Our children particularly enjoyed the games and children's disco nghts.
Aside from the excellent facilities on offer, nothing is too much trouble for the campsite owners, John and Susie, assisted by their capable and friendly team. We developed a flat car battery this year. I went down to reception to see if I could possibly borrow some jump-leads. Before I had even walked back to the tent, one of the staff was already at the car, jump leads and all!
There are a multitude of places to visit within the local area - good sandy beaches, The Broads, activity parks, a few National Trust properties, Norwich etc. We found a great new guidebook this year which listed various places and provided useful information. It certainly helped us to discover some 'off the beaten track' places('The Best of Britain - East Anglia' by Susan Griffith).
This is the best campsite that I have been to. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and happy to advise on what to do locally. The pub and cafe serve good food, and it's great being able to order baguettes, croissants and a paper for the morning. The toilets and showers are clean. There are lots for the kids to do, with the play area, pool, and masses of space to lose the parents in! there are a few activities available that are also good, like archery, bike hire and canoeing. The campsite is run really well and I can't really find any fault with it! would definitely go again.
I took my three children ranging in age from 14 to 6, and there was enough to entertain all of them all including a coffee shop for us.
The toilets were lovely and clean with hot water all day long, we stayed in the old orchard field which is close enough to the pool and playground so you can keep an eye open for the kids while enjoying some peace and quite at the same time.
The site layout is great, my little boy loved the fact he could wander through the surrounding woods by himself(the site is surrounded by a pine forest), I felt completely at ease letting the kids wander around by themselves my only wish is I took the their bikes. Its only a short drive to yarmouth and norwich with lovely village pubs on route.
This is the almost perfect camp site in my opinion.
We have 2 small children and went in early July.We arrived at the park to find it is efficiently run with smiley, helpful staff(just what you need after a 4 hour car drive). The pitches are well marked and the facilities are clean and pleasant.
It is great for children from the wildlife display behind reception to the play area. The family bathroom even has a bath. Bliss! Much better than trying to squash baby into a sink.
My only tiny tiny gripe (and this is petty I know!) is that the cafe closes at 5pm and the on-site pub doesn't open until 6pm leaving an hour across toddler tea time we couldn't find anything quick and easy to eat. If the cafe shut half hour later and the pub just opened half hour earlier it would truly be the Perfect Site.
Best Site I have ever been on in 5 years of camping.
We have a large 8 man tent and it was no problem, the pitches are very spacious. The toilet/showers very modern/clean inside (the only thing I found odd was the stange times that were allocated to clean them).
I have special requirements due to having a medical condition but this was no problem for them to make arrangements for. The site was very busy, but because of the way the pitches are laid out it did not seem busy (we had difficulty getting booked originally because it is such a popular site). Most sites have a large number of caravans and some tents but this site had only a few caravans and mostly tents when we visited.
We arrived early in the day and had lunch in the Cafe as our pitch was not ready yet (but that was our fault). The pub/restaurant had great food and the service was excellent(you have to try the local cider), it has entertainment for kids on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and free WiFi. There is also free WiFi in the cafe, The cafe has a PC as well just in case you do not have your own laptop with you.
It is in an ideal site for visiting the Norfolk Broads, Norwich and Great Yarmouth, to name but a few places.
Lowestoft has a fantastic airshow, well worth a visit as it is held at the beach (we ended up on the beach for nearly 6 hours, it was just as well we took a picnic).
10 out of 10. Great site, very friendly and helpful staff, I would really struggle to find any fault with this site at all if it wasn't for the rain. We pitched on plots 123 and 124 in The Heath and it got very boggy as we were at the bottom of the slope. Will be visiting this campsite again! but looking for flatter sunnier spot just in case.
The on site pub is great as it means you don't have to travel far to eat and drink, we ate there 4 out of 7 nights. It has free WiFi, swimming pool is small with a max of 15 people (that would be a squeeze) but at least its a good excuse not to go in. Toilet and shower/bath facilities were always clean and orderly. Pitches are of a good size with plenty of trees about, very pretty. Take ear plugs if you don't like being woken by peacocks.
First impressions count, and I have never felt so welcomed on site as I did on arrival at Clippesby Hall at the beginning of the school holidays. The lady in reception was friendly but very efficient and helpful. A chap showed us round to our pitch on the south park (number 71) and most pitches were taken. I'd say there was a 70/30 solit in favour of caravans.
The facilities were very close at hand and cleaned twice a day like clockwork. There are three (ithink) blocks throughout the park) they are fairly small but pleasant. Toilet & sink in together. Four self contained shower cubicles to share between the gents & ladies (at least in our block). The play area was fab and the swimming pool was nice (if rather cold).
There is a lovely treehouse on the otherside of the site which we didn't find til near the end of our stay. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The pub/restaurant was very nice (food's a little pricey to be honest) and I couldn't fault the staff. The children LOVED the kids dico on the Tuesday & Friday nights and we booked a table near the dance floor which was very handy as it got VERY busy in there on thoses nights. As for eating with kids, I recommend The Bridge on the road to Acle, good family eating, fab play area and a lot cheaper than on site.
The only downside about the site is that as the week went on, more and more tents arrived and we started to feel very crowded in our corner, these tents were sprawling and one day we went out for the day, when we came back we found someone pitched on our parking space. I honestly feel that if they had gone for just one less pitch on the top part of the south park it would have made all the difference. By the end of the week it was 99% tents and on the grass parts of the site there were maybe only 5 caravans. This made it very busy in the toilets blocks at peak times. Our hook up was a bit of a pain to get to, I either had to scamper through bushes or through our neighbours pitch. This also made it a pain to get water so I tended to walk across to a tap further away to avoid falling into a tent. I struggled to find a good place for emptying waste water easily. The chemical toilet emptying point was good but raised so you wouldn't want to haul a full wastemaster onto it to empty.
I would go back to this site again as it is so close to so many attractions (go to BeWILDerwood if you have children, it's amazing!) but we would pick which part of the site more carefully. The part over by the treehouse would be better as it's not a rat run for the pub and the pool. I imagine that out of season it's a fantastic site to stay at. There are some great bike rides to be had from there and they are a Broads Bike Hire centre. Also, the staff's knowledge of the area is fantastic. We wanted a really nice beach (I'll be honest Gt Yarmouth isn't for us, it's ermmmm an equired taste shall we say) and the guy in the office showed me Winterton on the map and told me from there we could walk to see some seals. He wasn't wrong, it was lovely. He also recommended really good boat hire people.
Aside from feeling a little cramped it has to be the friendliest and prettiest campsite we've stayed at.
Lovely campsite, clean very pretty. Pitches large. Real showers, no continuous pressing buttons and heat can be controlled. Only had to queue once to use showers. The staff are really nice and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Pub on site sold nice meals and another pub a little way from site was good too. Nice by river but weather wasn't nice enough for that. Plenty for kids of all ages to do and my 2 boys loved it. Would definitely go back.
