This is one of the best campsites I have visited. The staff are very friendly and very helpful.

The site is a family friendly site and very clean and well maintained. There is a lovely play area for smaller children, but also caters for older children, with a longe/hang out room, with tv, table tennis and reading books. This is the only site I have visited that cater for the teens. It also has free wifi, which is a real must for the teens. The tiolets /shower block are spotless, not a cobweb in sight. The showers are 20p for 5 mins, which is ample. (They also have soft close toilet seats)In the play area there is an australian bbq, which we didn't have time to use, but will definitely use on our next visit.

The nearest pub is a 15 min walk, which serve excellent meals, a little further down the main road is a fish and chip shop called the Scrap box. You can eat in or take away. Excellent fish and Chips, and really friendly staff. The campsite is a 10/ 15 minute drive to the center of York, and about 30 minutes to Eden camp and Flamingo Land making it a great base to explore yorkshire.

Excellent staff. Excellent facilities. Neat, clean and tidy site.

BUT. Traffic noise. And traffic jams out of York at nearest A64 Junction. Handy for York Park and Ride though.

Also two other downsides. Firstly, the site, in common with others we have used, do not declare, clearly, on all possible booking forms, that they charge for showers. A small charge but it is annoying. The showers are excellent, by the way! They are not alone in this. Others charge more. Thaka Lea in Penrith charge 50 p a shower and do not mention the fact, increasing thereby their actual tariff by a minimum of £1 a day for a couple

Secondly, it is possibly the worst signed site I have used in 40 years. Coming from York there is a sign several hundred yards from the actual turning you take, which is positioned such that you might think you entered the site via a pub car park. There is then NO sign at the turning you have to take left into Common Rd. And NO sign where you turn right into Hagg Lane.

Traffic noise is the biggest negative. Will not return.
Management response: Thank you for your review and we aim to act on feedback wherever possible.

Our website tariff page clearly states shower price, but I have updated our UKCampsite.co.uk advert to state shower cost to make it obvious there too. There was no deceit intended.

I'm afraid that we cannot change traffic congestion around York, or on the A64, although we do offer advice on alternative routes to avoid congestion. Unfortunately we have no control over noise from the road behind, some people hear this more than others (as can be seen from numerous reviews). Sorry that this impacted on your stay.

As for the signposts, we have no control over those - They have been there many years and were sited by the council. We have tried to alter sign locations and apply for additional signage, but were advised that a brown tourist sign is only now given for places attracting over 100, 000 visitors per year, and we cannot have another sign.

There is actually one sign at the end of our lane, so you must have missed that. We do give clear directions on our website and on the UKCampsite.co.uk advert, so am not sure what more we can do.

Stayed 2 nights in July and a nice clean site with very good facilities. Good location for the city as there is a bus stop just 300 yards from site entrance, or good park and ride facilities close by. Well maintained with very helpful, friendly wardens

On arrival whilst erecting our tent we were met by the people looking after the campsite, they also had kindly made for us hot water(in a flask), tea, coffee, milk and biscuits for us to enjoy.

The campsite was kept in good order by both of them, eg grass cut on a daily basis and collected so that it didn't go in your tent, showers spotless, bins emptied and cleaned at least twice a day.

The campsite itself is close to a local bus route and not far from York's Park & Ride. Pub down the road the Cross Keys very frienly and welcoming.

Plenty of electric hookups.

We would gladly return to this campsite and would put it in our top ten that we have visited in all our years of camping.

Thanks for a wonderful stay. :-)

Just spent 3 nights there, staff very friendly, showers and toilets very clean and up to date, small room with freezer and microwave for people in tents, also a tv room for anyone without there own small play area for the kids, two pubs and a sports club within 10 to 15 mins walk away small store and fish shop in the village, overall a nice little site and handy for York with bus stop 10 mins walk away.

We were a party of 4 adults 2 children and a dog in two tents.

We didn't take up the use of electric hookup. We had an in car lead for the air bed pump which unfortunately failed. It was no trouble to allow us to use the mains air bed pump within the games room.

We've been here before and on our return we weren't disappointed.

We had dry weather so packed away dry tents.

We had the camping field almost to ourselves.

The toilet and shower facilities are some of the best we've ever seen. Little touches like providing a supply of 20p's in the toilets for the showers on the off chance you don't have your own, with the trust that you will put the money back later.

The road noise was hardly noticeable.

The site hosts were very friendly and took time to interact with our children. Unlike some camp sites, everyone we saw said, good morning, hello or simply just smiled. That's really nice to see rather than people ignoring one another.

The shop had all the basics and most importantly for kids and big kids, sweets!

Our children loved the playground

We didn't use the Australian BBQ as we had our own charcoal BBQ but it looked very impressive.

We took a trip to the Yorkshire Air museum. Which is a very interesting place to visit for all ages, coupled with free vewing of the race circuit on the disused airfield.

We had a takeaway the night we arrived from Dunnington Pizza which was good value and excellent food.

We didn't go to any local pubs as we had a dog and wasn't sure if they would allow them.

There is a great walk just right out of the site and along a path into the woods around 2. 5km, which was really good.

We loved this site and will hope to return.

Folding Camper isn't on the list of units :)

'Hidden Gem' is over used on these reviews but that's exactly how I'd describe this site.

We stayed for 4 nights over a very wet and stormy Easter. 2 adults, 2 children. Priced reasonably at 28 per night, including hook up.

Approx 10 minutes drive from centre of York but outside in the country. If you cant find something to do in York then pack up and go home!

Bus routes near by and a path to York for cyclists and walkers isn't too far away. Close to a village with shop, pubs etc.

There is a small shop on site for the essentials and a very clean and tidy toilet/shower block. The showers are 20p for 5 minutes and have temperature control!

Owners couldn't be more helpful if they tried. Directed us to the pitch, gave a guided tour of the site and advised on local walks, bike rides etc.

Playground and a play room with TV and table tennis kept the kids occupied. Think there's a play field as well, but not sure as we didn't use this.

Loved it here and will definitely be back

First time staying on this site, will not be the last.

Excellent from booking in to leaving, the staff were very helpful and attentive answering any questions we had.

The pitches were flat all with EHU, toilets and site were kept very clean and tidy.

Microwave and kettle are available for use, also freezer.

Close to York and local village.

Week long stay at Ashfield, a lovely, family well equipped site. All the good points: great WIFI signal even on their far field, well placed for York park and ride or 15 minute walk into the village for a bus, flat and well draining pitches, showers 20p for 5 mins clean and tidy, small shop, freezer for ice block freezing along with kettle and microwave, TV room with a table tennis room and a great outdoor playground for the kids. A few other points: traffic noise audible day and *night* from the Hull Road (worth mentioning if you are in a tent as if you are in the second field it is there in the background). Pitches felt a bit close, as we were here August bank holiday week so site was quite full, neighbours were within 2 metres. EHU we didn't use (we were the odd ones out!) but available for every pitch by the look.

Close to Dunnington village with small supermarket and brilliant play park, you can join the cycle Route 66 from the site and cycle off road to Stamford Bridge or into York (mostly off road).

We will probably be back next year :)

This was the third time we have visited this site in the last 5 years. It never fails. We used it as a base camp to visit York Maze - although not every time. The toilet block is clean and well kept on top of. The playground is great for the kids - has an Australian BBQ with a roof - put £1 in to cook your food on. One year when we have been and it was raining we kept shelter cooking whilst the kids played in their waterproofs in the adjacent park :) Is not a large site - we like to pitch in the rally field that they have at the back - but is not open all year round. On the last day of the visit I had a flat battery. ARGGHH - 3 Mums on tour without a clue ! - Went to the shop where the owner immediately came to the car with hers and jump started it for me - 10* customer service :)- Thank you !
