Folding camper actually but no option for this. ;-)
Just had three nights at Ashfield and I cannot fault the site itself, just a few of the people who decided to use it!
As already stated by others, nice large flat pitches giving plenty of space. Facilities a little older than some but mostly clean and quite acceptable and paying 20p for a 5 minute shower is better than having to constantly press the button in the 'free' versions you often get.
10 minute walk to the nearest pub and some nice local walks also on the door step for dogs with owners.
Easy access to York if that is the reason for your visit.
We were unlucky that one peaceful day was spoilt by a group of around 5 caravan families who decided they would take over the place and drink and shout loudly for most of the day and let their dogs wonder around freely doing what dogs do. It still amazes me how some people can be so ignorant of others and of the simple 'keep dogs on a lead' rule. Luckily we left the next day so we only had one night of them.
I would certainly look to use this site again if I am up in the area in the future. I just hope next time the dicks do not appear.

A lovely flat site with a good feel.
We picked a week of very variable weather, it absolutely poured with rain for some of the time and the site got exceptionally waterlogged.
The facilities are quite old and dated but are kept clean - no mean feat with the weather we had as mud was absolutely everywhere! The facilities are also well maintained, a light out was replaced and a broken hairdryer mended by the next day.
Its a very friendly site and our children enjoyed it very much even though the playground doesn't have much in it.
The site is conveniently located close to Grimston Park and Ride which was £5. 40 for four of us return into York. Its also close to shopping centres with bowling alley and multiscreen cinema which we used in the bad weather.
The Windmill pub round the corner does very good food and caters for a gluten free diet.
The free wifi is a great addition (although a bit hit and miss) We would look to book here again if we decide to head back to this area.

Stayed at this site for the Easter weekend, the toilets and showers were clean with plenty of hot water, there was a charge for the showers, 20p for 5 minutes. The field itself was lovely and flat with pitches round the edge giving enough room for ball games to be played in the middle. The site was lovely and enclosed and had a nice play park for the kids, as well as a recreation room with a telly and table tennis. The site is family owned/run and sells homemade jams, chutneys and scones every day. This site is definitely one we will be going back to ( and that doesn't happen very often!). This site has a lovely feel about it, and deserves nothing but good reviews! Forget the comment put on by a previous user regarding the bird scarer, we only heard this very very faintly in the background. Not a problem at all! The village of Dunnington is only a 5-10 minute walk away with a lovely village pub and local cost cutter, which sells everything you need! The site does have a shop, which only opens for an hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening, it doesn't really sell much apart from a few sweets for the kids. Much to my 14 year sons delight, the wi fi was excellent, and free! Without a shadow of a doubt we will return here time after time! Well worth a visit in my opinion!

I have read other reviews and can agree with some. I was also at the site in April with my dog but did not hear any bangs, a little road noise but nothing to disturb us. The site and staff were very friendly indeed and the wifi was superb, which was good as we could not get a TV signal! The walking especially for dogs was down a quiet lane and into the most wonderful wood full of blue bells and spring flowers and was the bonus of our trip. Children loved the play area and games rooms. My only gripe would be the shower block which was freezing, why offer a heat facility then leave the door and windows open? The bus service to York was good and a Cost cutter and butchers in the village excellent I too agree about the strange opening times and stocking of the shop. All in all I will go back it was friendly, relaxing and the pitches easy to get on and off and well maintained.

We have just returned from Ashfield today and we would like to let other people know that if they are taking a dog with them to think again. We have a small dog and as the site says its dog friendly we thought that this would be good place to stay to visit York and the surrounding area. But on arrival we were welcomed by the a succession of loud bangs, which we can only assume was a bird or animal scarer in the adjoining fields. This made our stay with our four legged friend quite fraught! In addition to this we thought as there was a shop on the site we would be able to get fresh milk and a paper etc but in the three days we were there we never managed to get to the shop before it closed again! They only seem to open for an hour in the morning and evening which is a bit awkward if you've forgotten essentials. The site is to its credit is well away from the road so is quite child friendly in that respect, but the road noise from the main Hull road may keep them awake at night. The toilets and dishwashing area were clean, if a little chilly!. Perhaps not the site for us!

We last visited this site in 2009 and stayed for a week in a tent. We are now caravanners and decided to return to the site as it was conveniently located for our planned visits to York and Hull. It turned out we didn't do much in York, but Hull is only a 30-40 min drive from the site. We would recommend a visit to The Deep - the aquarium in Hull. We were part of a home educators school group and it was a wonderful experience. The museum quarter in Hull is also lovely with a few museums all within walking distance of one another - and all FREE entry!
It is reassuring knowing that there is a large boom at the entrance of the site, so peace of mind that one's caravan and equipment are safe while out. The lady who met us in reception was very helpful and friendly and showed us around the site - pointing out that the toilet block was now heated with radiators. The shower/toilet block was very clean and cleaned on a daily basis. We were directed to our hard standing pitch with electric hookup and water point nearby. The whole site is clean and neat.
The children's play park was a big hit with our 4 children and they spent hours playing there and in the games room. The showers operate on a coin system but worth it to have a nice hot shower. The on site shop was stocked with the essentials and plenty of pamphlets for days out are located outside the games room. Wifi was excellent and we had great TV reception too. If we return to Yorkshire again, I'm sure that we'll stay once again at Ashfield. Good value for money.

This site is very conveniently placed for visits to York and surrounding areas. Good bus links if you don't want to use your car or are in a motorhome.
The welcome we received from the family owners was very good. Our pitch was on grass as most of the hard standings are taken up by seasonal pitch caravans.
Toilet/shower block was much improved this year as there has been a central heating system installed during the winter which meant it was much more inviting. Showers cost 20p in the slot which gave plenty of metered water. Hot water in washing up sinks (contained within a separate block) was free and an excellent facility. Large games room with wide screen TV, sofas, books and table tennis available. Great for keeping the kids amused in not so good weather. Outdoor play park and barbeque area.
Free Wi-Fi available to all, and when I could not get my computer to work the owner kindly helped me adjust the settings on my computer and got me on-line. Thank you.
A very nice site within a rural setting but close to local amenities. We had a meal at the Windmill pub which was about 10 mins walk. This was a very popular place on a Sunday and we found the food to be home cooked and very good. Village of dunnington is about a 20 minute.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at this campsite. On arrival it was just getting dark we were greeted by all the lighted up festive decoration which made it very warming. The camp site had everything we need. The toilet/shower block was very clean just like the rest ove the site. Fri night we had a 10 min walk to the windmill pub were we had a lovely meal. On Saturday we choose to take a 15min taxi ride into york which was 10 pound with there been 4 of us we didn't mind. But they is a park/ride the timetable up on the information board. Saturday night we walked into dunnington which took us a nice steady 15min walk to the cross keys for a meal which again was lovely. We only ate out with it been winter. But we will be returning to this site in Jan and cant wait to return in the summer with my grandchildren to use the beautiful park and the barbecue area

Stayed on this site for two nights found it to be a great little site for getting to and from York. The showers and wash room are clean and tidy, water and waste are close by, elsan waste a room on its own. Theirs a bbq area with small play area, a dog walk all in all a great site. Satnav gets you here no problem. Booking on site easy and get took to pitch and watched on. Shop at end of lane at garage for essentials but not used.

Visited this site recently the park is kept clean and tidy and every one was friendly. The toilets we in need of updating although they were kept clean. Tried to use the wi fi and it didn't work. Shop not very well stocked and only open two hours a day. The park is good our kids spent most of the time there. The park in the village is good for all ages. The pucross keys is a nice pub didn't go in any of the others.
