Just spent Easter weekend at this site, fantastic! Toilet/shower block has had considerable work and were very clean and tidy. Plenty of farm birds and I have to say the cockerels do like to make themselves heard. Two minute drive to Durham's excellent park and ride, £1.70 per adult, kids go free. Play park on site, a bit worrying that it's alongside the river. Cross the river via a footbridge to some great walks, there's even a small beach on the riverbank. Definitely going back this summer.

Wow. Woke up yesterday morning and opened our curtains to a wonderful winter scene. What a great weekend we have just had. Such a beautiful site near the river. The kids loved the farm birds and the play area. The toilets have just been upgraded and are heated with FREE showers. A really great time had by the whole family. We will be back in the summer. Nice to see a site as good as this open in the winter with such friendly staff.

I am quite suprised with the comments about the noise. I stayed on this site for 10 weeks whilst working in the area. The only problem we had was that I wanted to have chicken breakfast at 5 in the morning and if I could have caught that cockerel I would have rung its neck. Nice quiet site, more suited to romantic weekends or elderly couples than a young family.

Visited this site for two night break at the beginning of August expecting a heatwave - it didn't arrive although it seemed to be everywhere else!! Set in a pretty area we especially enjoyed the riverside walks when we were able to avoid the many piles of dog waste, can really recommend the owners providing a few dog bins to discourage people from just leaving it! The area for tents was very slopey which was disappointing. The site overall was fairly nice, toilet blocks untidy at times and no electric socket as promised in the details. Security guy was very friendly although don't know where he was to maintain the 'noise curfew' after 11am as both nights we were subject to bad behaviour from other residents which went on for some time. Overall a nice site but have been to better.

This is actually the 1st time I have been camping and WOW what a place to start. In a most beautiful setting this park certainly has the wow factor and very clean. Owners excepionally friendly toilets and wash room very clean but could do with a little modernizing. Never too busy and 20p seems to go a long way according to my partner although I spent 40p still a bargain for hot water.

Very easy access to main roads and motorways - we visited Durham it took 5 mins and well worth a visit. I agree tent pitches do tend to steep but whatever gripes you may have about this site the outstanding natural beauty cannot be denied. A beautiful maintained site in a fantastic location. Walk across the bridge on site and up a very steep set of steps (approx 50) finds you walking through and up a wooded path. At the top if you turn right and walk about 100 yards you will come across a golf club with very good food prices, a pool table, telly and good priced drinks. Good night had by us - both just be warned no lighting on road or back down wood path, but we were there till 11pm and was still light enough to walk back easily. So go get something nice to eat very very reasonable. On a very small minus the cockrels and the peacocks did really get on my nerves one morning very early 4am - was intent on waking me up and indeed did succeed but as it was my 1st time camping I suppose I would get used to it and it would certainly not put me off in the future a great place and a great 1st time experiance

Very friendly, helpful owners/staff.
Lovely scenic setting - in a valley next to an old abbey.
Tiny shop (actually served through a stable door in the owners kitchen!) but had basic essentials and sweets.
Toilets very clean although a little old - 20p charge for 5 mins in the shower (being charged for a shower is a pet hate of mine).
Pot washing room (2 sinks but never got busy) with ample free hot water.
Peacocks & hens roaming around the site which amused the kids. But they crowed/screeched from very early on a morning.
Nice walks along the river.
Smallish play area for kids but this was situated next to the river.
Warden patrolling the site.
All of the tent field (mainly non- electric) slopes badly, the caravan field has some hardstanding and some flatter grass pitches which I would ask for if I were to return.
Quite a lot of dog muck about in the tent field (I know this is the fault of the dog owners not the site.)
2 adults 2 kids tent with electric £18 per night not the cheapest I've been to.

Nice quiet site when we were there. The tent pitches can be on an incline if you're not there early. Toilets were clean and staff very friendly. Site is secured by a barrier at night to stop people just coming in and out. will visit again for a quiet weekend.
