Very noisy campsite right on the A27, our first pitch was like sleeping in a lay-by. The staff were great and moved us to another pitch but still the traffic noise is 24-7. The reviews state a quite campsite we don't know who wrote that.
The site was dirty with bins often overflowing as only a limited number of staff trying to keep it clean. Few travellers on site which a few campers had issues with and one night boy racers racing round the site with only one security guard for the camping and caravan park.
The staff were fantastic always happy and more than willing to help although often run off their feet, the only up side of the park was the outdoor heated park which was clean big enough for every one and well guarded.
The toilet and shower facilities were nothing special with the new block rather better than the old, shower nice and hot, but tended to be dirty.
Having camped for many years the reviews, in our opinion, on their web site are miles from the truth and we will not be staying on this site again.
Toilet block was 2 weeks old, but wife had a cold shower and mine was luke warm. In the morning my wife said water was scolding and a tap was stuck on pouring out scolding water.
I went to the shower block in the morning there was no toilet paper in any cubicle but I had brought my own, there was excrement all over toilet seat and lid on one pan, others were slightly better.
Paid £20 for a night, but had better facilities in a Swanage site where the shower block was at least 35 years old, clean and it only cost £11. 50 for a night.
We did complain to head office, they sent us the normal run of the mill reply apology - no offer of partial refund or any type of offer. They knew they'd had our money and we would not being going back.
Shame as we regularly used this site in the nineties and were season ticket holders for 2 years, but would never go there again. I do hope it improves for other campers.
Have just read lots of reviews on here about the site and I can say a lot has changed from what I have seen.
The showers now have curtain to separate the main shower area creating a small area for you to hang your clothes up without them getting wet. Only downside is when you press the button for the water it lasts about 30 seconds before the water stops and you have to press it again. A bit longer would be great! It was clean throughout and the toilets always had toilet roll in them. But, as I always do when I go to a campsite I take my own loo roll, no problem if there isn't any there, simple really!
Staff were excellent throughout. Warden was very helpful as were the reception staff and the shop/bar staff although on the Saturday morning at about 1145 I fancied a pint but the barman wouldn't serve me until 1200. He could have sorted me a pint and put the money in the till at midday but he didn't. Not the end of the world though!
As I booked late I could not get an EHU. (Bank holiday weekend and it was busy) Not really a problem as my campervan is pretty much self sufficient but they did allow me to hook up to one of the four hook up points at the holding area at the entrance to the touring field for an hour which was good as the kids and I could recharge our phones, iPads etc.
We parked up in the non ehu field which was big and roomy. No problem with the noise from the A27 although I wondered how bearable it would be if parked up on a pitch next to the road itself on the far side of the field.
The shop on site was well stocked with pretty much everything you needed if you had forgotten anything but the wait for food on the Saturday night was an hour and twenty mins. Food was ok though when we did eat there. Doesn't open until nine am so we headed off to the nearby McDonald's for breakfast each morning. There is also a big Sainsbury's nearby too which is handy. If the cafe on site was open at 7am it would do a roaring trade in breakfasts from what I gauged from talking to other people on the site!
Overall it was alright. Not as bad as some of the reports on here which means the owners have made changes for the better. I probably will go back but I also want to try other sites in my van in the West Sussex area too so not sure when.
We'd stayed here before, end of the season, so knew what to expect. This time we were using the Sun £1 vouchers so they stuck us as far from the toilet/shower block as they could. Right next to the A27 ! If you do pre-book a pitch make sure you ask to be put as close to the loos as possible (but not directly opposite, next to the bins. )
If you like karaoke, bingo, kidz clubs, junk food, fizzy beer and mosquitoes then you'll love it here.
Loads of full-time statics on here and the top couple of strips of the camping field are given over to seasonal pitches who pack-up October-ish. Can't imagine the shower blocks coping when fully booked. There are two blocks tho' and the showers are great. Cleaned every day as well.
Ideally located for Chichester, Witterings, Selsey and Goodwood. Wouldn't use again as it's no longer on the Sun £1 Camping list.
Lakeside was easy to find. The facilities are very tired and there was lots of litter around. The layout is nice, but the noise from the A road right next to the touring pitches was a problem for me (but not for my other half!)
The little cafe was nice and the pool lovely and warm allowing us to swim even on a cold, rainy day. We did not eat at the restaurant so cannot comment on that.
The climbing frame kept my five-year old occupied for hours and was visible from most of the touring pitches. The toilet/shower block could have been cleaner.
As it was bucketing with rain we did go to the nearby bowling alley and cinema which used up several hours and was very nice. All in all, would not go back, as I did not feel that we got value for money.
Traffic noise from A27 was relentless. Friday night, noisy girls screaming around the site at 1. 30am. Warden unaware when we complained. Very disappointed with the food in the cafe. Heated microwave food that was very bland.
Saturday night a dog walker was shouting for his lost dog at 02:10am for about 15-20 minutes at the top of his voice with no obvious regard for other campers. Dog was called Burger of all things. Again warden unaware of this. Warden's caravan was less than 20 yards from our tent.
Burglar alarm in reception went off twice. Approx 5:30am and 6. 30am Site staff were unaware that the alarm was going off. We appreciate it was an actual burglary as my husband, who went to investigate at 5. 30ish and actually witnessed the burgler in situation (only found this out when he went out again when the alarm went off for a 2nd time). Apparently the alarm just rings until someone eventually hears it.
Music from another group of campers was still being played until 01.30am. Again warden unaware.
As you can imagine, 2 adults and 2 children and no sleep for 2 nights does not constitute a restful weekend break. Very unhappy, tired and disappointed.
Reception staff very pleasant and friendly.
No plugs in sinks anywhere
Play area good
Shop good but does not open until 9am - too late in our opinion.
Showers clean and water hot. Showers blast everywhere so clothes on hooks (which are too high for children to reach) get wet. No benches or chairs to rest bags on outside of cubicle or help when drying children.
Firstly, the staff at reception, lovely. Staff in the bar not so good because people running the KIDZ shop were pre-occupied with running the bingo & this resulted in one unhappy daughter because she had to wait for her bubble gun.
We were placed in the touring field without an electrical hook-up which meant we were in the middle of the field therefore. Not too close to the 'A' road, yes we could hear it, which should have been pointed out on their website
Shower blocks were okay, there could have been more pot-wash stations, updating required and toilet roll did run out in the ladies by the end of the night.
Huge downside, no noise curfew so lots of people up at 1-2am in the morning. Lighting was okay.
Good point, ideally located for bognor and the witterings, however the key selling point for this place is that you don't have to leave the site until 12pm.
Entertainment great for the kids, especially in the morning whilst I tidied up and they went to kids club with mummy. Perfect.
My ratings say I wouldn't rush to recommend this, but for the price, this site is okay for what's on offer. For my kids.
This is a large site, next to some excellent fishing lakes. We were located (less then 20m) from busy A27, and the noise/drone of the traffic never stopped, which really spoilt our stay.
Toilets/showers were clean enough. Washing-up area is next to the chemical toilet disposal which I did not think was very hygienic. Also, there was a dire shortage of plugs for washing-up sinks AND hand/face basin in washroom. I am sure the owner receives an enormous energy bill as most people are washing under running water as they were unable to fill the basin/sink. The owners profits is just going down the drain … literally.
Play area kept the kids (13, 11 and 9 yrs old) independently occupied. Which for us was just great.
Communal lights around the site at night-time were too bright and really could be dimmed somewhat. I would’ve liked to have seen lights in the toilet/shower block put on occupancy sensors to save energy. (I am a commercial energy assessor in my day job).
Bar does not sell matches, but it sells cigarettes. How stupid is that? I don't smoke, but I do need to light my gas stove. This should be reviewed. The on-site shop (which sells matches as well as other stuff) was not visited as they don't open till 9. 00am. Our kids wake up at 7. 30am and are hungry and want feeding ASAP and unable to wait till 9. 00am. Obviously, the owners want you to go down to your local Tesco (less than 2 miles) and get all the goddies you want from there, which is a shame as I like giving me kids money to go and get my croisants/pain-au-chococolate etc in the morning and I could not trust them near the A27
Stayed here for 3 nights, which was enough. The only thing that drowned out the constant noise from the A27 was the torrential downpour we had on the 2nd night.
The shower cubicles were not practical at all, no where to hang your clothes without giving them a wash at the same time. There was only 1 sink in the washing up area that had a plug so there was a constant queue. All the washing facilities need a good clean or updating.
The site was only 19 miles from Portsmouth so we did have a really nice day out to the Isle of Wight, this and the fact that it was cheap made it ok for the time we were there but not a site I would return to.
Our pitch was 330, which is mentioned in a below review, and is separated from the A27 Chichester Bypass by a single hedge, and it is the most ridiculously noisy pitch! The cars, lorries, motorbikes are just feet away, and the traffic is never ending, all through the night!
Anyone who was pitched along this hedgerow would have suffered the same. If you were lucky enough to have a pitch across the other side of the touring field, the noise is a lot more bearable.
I just don't know what this campsite is thinking? Do they really think campers are going to be happy paying to camp at the side of such a busy, noisy road?
Noise aside, the facilities are okay, I didn't enjoy my shower as the floor of the cubicle was a bit grimy. Water was hot though. Shop was fine, if a little small. Bar has a nice outdoor decking area, overlooking the lake - best part of the resort.
