We visited this site over the May bank holiday weekend 2008 and whilst we had a good time we were very disappointed in the quality of the pitches. The area suffered heavy rain overnight and on waking up over half our pitch was at LEAST 4 inches under water with some of it up to knee level, half our awning was flooded and our friends in the tent on the pitch next to us were completely flooded aswell. It certainly didn't help that the static area was maintained by pumping excess water from their area onto the touring field thus bogging out the area even further. We had no choice but to take our awning down and attempt to dry it by hanging it over the fence of the play area. We then had to move our caravan forward apx 6 feet so were weren't in the water logged area.
The playpark seemed quite new, however was better suited to older children as the little ones had no smaller equipment to climb / play on which was a shame. There was a good area fenced off for ball games etc.
The entertainment on fri and sat night was great in the club room, bingo and singers, however on monday there was no entertainment and the bar staff were unhelful, when I asked where I could purchase the takeaway food as the cafe / pizza area at the time were closed. Their attitude was that it wasn't their problem that there was no where to purchase food despite the site being advertised as having takeaway food as they only worked behind the bar!
Never saw a shop on the site first nor last! That's not to say there wasn't one, we just never saw it.
There was a warden on the touring field however despite everyones problems with the flooding there was no assistance offered from him / her and we never saw them at all.
A27 close but not too noisy - nothing drastic anyway.
Toilet block looked liked a log cabin which I thought was quite attractive, plenty of hot water in the showers, sink area clean however shower floors could have been cleaned more often.
Washing up area excellent.
Plenty of bins and chemical disposal point close by too.
Reception helpful and friendly to our children.
All in all we had a fun time but break was ruined due to excessive lack of adequate drainage on touring area.
Would not visit again as now having to claim on travel insurance for items ruined by the flooding, wouldn't risk ruining more property again.
Local swim pool (westgate leisure centre) great value for money (apx £8.50 for family of 4 to swim). Site pool looked too small to bother with.
If visiting this area would highly recommend Selsey Warner Park Touring instead of this site where the touring area is immaculately maintained and entertainment team far more professional and many more facilities.
Hi my wife and myself and friends have been using this site regulary over the past 4 or so years for long weekends etc only live 30mins drive away and have found the whole site fairly priced. The entertainment good, all areas clean, the camping field level and toilet blocks good. Thats the good bit now for my gripe, we used to take a motorbike with us but were not allowed to take it on touring field, we had to park it by clubhouse 10 mins walk away and no security, so dont take bike anymore. The prices have been creeping up slowly and were told it was because of good entertainment, but we think £20 a night a bit much, but lived with it as we like it there. We visited this weekend with friends, no entertainment, no pool, club house had cold beer but expensive and still £20 a night. We were not impressed with this weekend, is it to do with the new owners, so we went into Chichester for evening instead. Will we or our friends be going there again, prob not, well at least not so often will find another site.
Visited Lakeside, for three nights over the May Bank holiday. 2 adults’ one child 8. Booked at last minute. Quite a large flat site, with EHU round the edge. There is also an area for seasonal tourers too. Very flat site, but suffered in places from poor drainage, but we did have a LOT of rain that weekend. And only one unit had to move, the majority was fine, most puddles on road or near toilets. Visited other sites in area and a lot had similar problems.
Two lots of toilets, only visited one. That one had 4 toilets and four showers plus sinks. Cleaned every morning. In same block was washing up consisted of three sinks. No queues, despite site being busy. Large play area, with climbing frame and very large area to play ball/ run around. The whole area is fenced off. The pool, shop club was a bit of a walk from the touring area. Due to bad weather didn’t visit pool but it looked tiny. Club was fine, on the small side. We had fun playing games in the evening, and horse racing one afternoon. Shop was small but held the essential. Staff all very friendly. One side of the site is the A27, and to be honest the noise didn’t bother us, but I assume it would bother some. Would defiantly visit again.
Have just returned from a long weekend at Lakeside. The site is very flat and perfect for camping. The touring field although, is very close to the A27 duel carriageway and therefore quite noisy. We thought that this would die down during the night, but it didn’t, there is a constant drown of traffic all night long, so would recommend earplugs. The site itself is very clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. Toilets and showers are ok, could do with more than once a week clean. The onsite shop/cafe leaves a little to be desired as they carry very little stock, but most of the essentials are there. The café offers the basics like burger and chips, full English breakfast and Sunday roast. The swimming pool was closed the weekend we were there, (faulty heater) but it did look very tempting. The clubroom and bars are situated at the rear of the campsite and about a 10 min walk from the touring field, on a nice summer evening, this was no problem but if it’s raining it could be. The entertainment was ok (bingo and a singer) and the price of drinks about average. Over all not a bad site, would definitely consider going back.
We have just got back from our second visit to Lakeside. The shop has been re-vamped (a bit) and they have cut off an area on the field where there is now a park. It is only suitable for older kids, hopefully they will do one for the younger kids too. Toilets and showers are ok. Other guests are friendly. Only problem we found was the motorway, we noticed it quite a bit this time. On our last visit we hardly noticed it. Kids had a great time! pool was great and not busy! all in all had a great time and will be visiting several times over the year!
Hi my wife and I are frequent visitors to this site and tend to use push bikes to go to Bognor or Chichester or other local spots for a day out. There are a couple of pubs for eating nearby i.e the Walnut Tree or we prefer to walk over the bridge towards Chichester and use the Wickham Arms - a bit less expensive - then back to site club house where the ale is good and well priced. Most nights there is some kind of entertainment going on and usually quite good.
The toilets are well kept showers always hot. The staff are helpful. Pitches are level and not too hard for pegging. I would recommend to most with or without kids as they seem to cater for all needs. On the down side you have to go through the arcade to get to the bar not so good for parents on a budget! We also take a motorcycle on occasions and are not permitted to keep it on the camping field but are expected to leave it in the main car park outside the club house about 10mins walk away from camp field. When we said we were not to happy about leaving bike there (brand new) and not sure how we would get on with insurance if anything were to happen we were bluntly told that this was the only choice and they would take no responsibility. So to sum this place up yes go there have a great time dont take motorbike and a bit extra cash for them machines! Enjoy your stay
We used this site in early September for the Goodwood revival weekend. We found that there was an enthusiastic welcome on arrival and were politely informed that we could pick our pitch anywhere on the touring field (non EHU). The whole field is flat and the grass kept short, although beware there is what appears to be a gravel bed right under the turf so you would be advised to use strong rock pegs or similar for pitching. We chose to pitch several hundred meters from the border to the duel carriageway (Chichester bypass).
Overall we were pleased with the pitch and even had a friendly visit from the site warden. Some reviews may be slightly exaggerated, you could certainly here the road noise but it was not at all bothersome (the road surface has recently been relaid). The toilet and shower block were OK but could definitely do with more frequent cleaning. Although we spent a large part of the time at Goodwood and in Chichester, we did visit the club on site a couple of times and although it is in need of some updating, we found that it was still adequate for purpose. The entertainment on the Saturday night was extremely good.
All in all I think that this is a very worthy site particularly for shorter holidays.
We went to Chichester Lakeside holiday park the last weekend in June. It was a really hot weekend and England were playing football. I would just like to say there was a big group of us and we were made to feel very welcome. The pool and the bar were kept clean and the site was very nice. The camping field is near the road but you do get used to it. It is very child friendly and lots of space for the kids to run. I would go back again. The showers and toilets were clean but think they need to be cleaned more often. People did make a mess in the evening in the showers.
We did some how have an enjoyable weekend at this site , made the best of it really with our friends! The Saturday night entertainment in the club house was excellent , we tried out the fishing lakes but did not catch a thing! The shop was tiny and did not stock much at all! The park did not exist as it is apparently in the process of being moved, much to the disappointment of the children! The MAJOR DOWNSIDES were: swarms of gnat's and flies in the evening and the touring field is next to a DUAL-CARRIAGEWAY! so incredibly NOISY you needed ear plugs and a few drinks to sleep at night! and had to be standing right next to some one to hear what they were saying without needing to shout ! Would not waste my time going again as the whole point of camping is suppose to be peace and tranquillity not lorries and cars trundling past 24/7! When you mention this in reception they just say that you will get used to it!
Having re-visited for the first time in 20 years, I have to say we had a very good time though the hours we spent on site were not that many, due to using the site for the Good wood Festival of Speed
The entrance to the field is a bit tatty and one end appears to be reserved for a numebr of caravans which are permanet, people live in them or visit for the weekend. This is seperate from the Static park
We found the loo good and showers free and my wife visited the shop and was able to get milk at 8pm in the evening. Commented it appeared well stockedFrequent vists from a warden who seemed fairly friendly
No complaints hope to return
