We spent 4 nights at Lakeside and it's the first time we stayed at a 'holiday park'. We had brilliant weather (which always helps). The grass was in dire need of a cut as it was verging on overgrown (which wasn't a massive issue).
What did transpire into a problem was on the 3rd and 4th night - the site became quite heavily populated with the travelling community - which really, really let it down.
The wash facilities were borderline acceptable and the washing up area wasn't the best we'd seen/used like on previous sites.
The kids really enjoyed it and it was cheap and cheeful.
First time visit to Lakeside and were pleasantly surprised.
Although it was right near the A27, the noise of traffic didn't really bother us.
We chose EHU, as it was only another few pounds on the tariff which was a tad dearer than we usually pay, but as it had on site amenities, we didn't mind the extra.
Lakes surrounding the area, some available for fishing.
Chichester, Bognor and Worthing etc., not very far by car.
If you have a bicycle, there are a few bridel paths you can ride along, some would probably be a bit muddy in bad weather, but we were fortunate. It is also on a national bicycle route.
Toilet/shower block and washing up area were basic, but covered our needs. Hot water and loo roll were always available. Quite a lot of spider webs in the corners of the washing up room but the toilet block was clean. Could both do with an upgrade though.
Entertainment and disco on Friday and Saturday nights, amusments for the kids (liked taking our money but didn't give us back much LOL)
Drinks prices were slightly dearer than pub prices, but that is to be expected.
The shop had fresh milk and provisions.
Cafe did a rather nice breakfast for reasonable price.
Launderette there as well if the need arises.
Small heated outdoor pool, one guard on duty.
It wasn't very busy the weekend we went, although our 'neigbours' had a party over friday/Sat, but they made no trouble and were very friendly.
Staff were also very friendly, and helpful.
On the whole, a very enjoyable weekend. Came home feeling relaxed and stress free, which is what camping is all about.
Great staff on reception when we arrived on Friday (bank holiday w/end) then we were on our own.
The touring field was seriously packed by tea time! Loads of units with overlapping guy-lines and very tight 'corrals' of friend's units.
We were kept awake by the noise from the A27, it was very busy as it was the b/hol w/end, but the worst noise was from the midi JCB pummelling the site's rubbish at 8:00am on our last morning, ideally they could have done that particular job a little later, 9ish would have seemed more humane.
The playground facilities were great, more than adequate, the children loved the swimming pool and we managed to get those little bits & bobs we'd forgotten in the site shop. The cafe just seemed a little strange being 'in' the shop, or was it the other way around?
The older utility block, nearer the entrance, had the strangest showers we've encountered for a long time. They only stayed on for a very short while so you have to keep pressing the button, both my husband and I had our clothes and towels soaked as there's no-where inside the cubicle to leave your 'stuff' apart from a coat hook. In the newer block by the playground they have tried to address this by having larger doored cubicles.
While we were there the older block was out of action early am twice, not because of any failing by the site but due to inconsiderate campers flushing what the notices said not to. When will we campers learn; it's not as 'just like home' as we'd like to think!
Also, I am a fisherman and thought this site would be ideal but I was not prepared to pay £15 a day, the most I pay is £10 and that is guaranteed fish.
Overall not a bad site if you can handle the noise
Oh dear. The most awful site we have visited yet. We were allocated pitch 330 which is separated from the main A27 (very busy dual carriageway) by a single hedgerow. The traffic noise was constant - literally 24 hours a day. The site itself is geared up for the hundreds of static caravans and cabins it has - the touring field is more of an after thought.
Our pitch had not been inspected after the previous occupants departed - we had to remove food debris and rubbish before we could set up. The grass hadn't been mown in weeks. The facilities in the wooden block were shocking - really awful. I think the floors were mopped daily, but that was the extent of the cleaning.
There were cobwebs on top of cobwebs, on top of cobwebs. Rows of deads insects lined the vanity units and the toilet cubicles were truly filthy. There is also a brick built block which fared slightly better but was further away. The washing up areas were grim - the only bonus being hot water was plentiful, day or night.
The swimming pool was dirty - the pool attendant removed the live and dead frogs from it on a daily basis, then left them lined up in the sun to show holiday makers! The park in the touring field was okay for older children, but there is nothing for toddlers. The clubhouse is ok - small but adequate.
The evening entertainment consisted of kids karaoke. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful, but all other staff on site were surly and miserable.
We had our first visit to lake side in July, I had heard some things about the touring park being noisy so was a little concerned, But we found the site lovely not really that noisy you soon don't notice it, the staff were very helpful and friendly.
The warden of the touring park was very helpful and all ways keeping an eye on things. We had EHU, and found the pitches to be a good size. The park on touring site is nice al though very high so not so good for younger children they could do with adding some smaller play equipment for the toddlers
The outside pool was lovely very warm and had 2 life guards on duty, the entertainment great and again all very friendly, out side area by the water lovely to site to have a drink watching the sun set.
Now the not so good points although not many= the toilet blocks were all ways hot but not enough of them for the size of site, and need a modern touch, also the washing up sinks next to the chemical toilet cleaning area not nice, you don't wont to wash up watching the person next to you cleaning there loo, as only a little wood barrier between you.
But all in all a nice site we will be returning on the 20th of this month, I recommend it.
Electric pitches where no sectioned very well and we had to move our tent after if was erected as warden said it was on 2 pitches (some boundary's would have been nice)
Quite noise at night with people making noise until 2am.
Showers were good but some time dirty but guess this is down to the users at time and not the park. There is a play ground for the kids which seem good and an outside pool.
The food was a reasonable price although some times it took a while to get served. 3 staff behind the counter but only 1 serving whilst the rest have a chat. Bar was good and pricing was also not bad at all.
Did not notice the road noise too much at night considering it was right by the A27.
Stayed at this site earlier in the year when site was pretty much empty. We had a caravan then and were in top corner which was a little noisy with the A27 running alongside. We thought we'd give it another go on weekend of 10/7, this time we were in a tent. The road noise was awful, didn't get much sleep all night. We were in the middle of the field and had plenty of room around us to be able to have a game of frisbee, but felt we were camping alongside the road itself.
Last trip we went to the clubhouse to see Matt Jonstone who was brilliant. Really enjoyed that night.
Haven't used any other facilities so couldn't comment.
Despite the weather being gorgeous the toilet and shower floor was covered in mud and grass. It was a hot weekend and the temperature of the water in the showers was too hot. The warden was pleasant enough and there was no noise late into the night as on some parks I've been to.
Friendly and helpful staff on arrival. Electric hook up pitches are around the perimeter of the large field, non electric can pitch anywhere in the centre which worked fine.
There are 2 shower/toilet blocks which need updating really. They are ok, water is hot, small wash up area for doing the dishes.
The A27 is close and a bit noisy but after a few beers did not really notice it through the night.
The eating place is only a small cafe, did not eat there so can't really comment, they also sell some provisions. All in all it was ok but have stayed at better, more modern and cleaner campsites.
There is a lovely pub out the gate, turn right about 1.5 miles called the Walnut tree
We went to chicheseter lakeside with our friends for a one night stay and were delighted buy the campsite
The showers were crisp and hot and definitely clean! The pool was lovely. The entertainment was great. There were cleaners in toilets all the time and we go there every weekend now and there's even a warden that patrols the park
There is a very nice posh pub down the road (1 mile) which makes for a very pleasant walk, an evening drink and some of the most excellent food I have ever tried, I would definitely recommend it to a friend or any one
Now to the bad parts !
I think that the site needs to be a little more relaxed (staff) and the restaurant is really a (small) cafe guys build a proper one !
Good points - friendly reception staff Alex in particular.
Cleanliness - even though it was bank holiday the site was clean although it took a while for the excess bin bags to be removed a bit pongy in the hot weather. Just all looks a bit tired.
Touring park had its own warden
Beautiful countryside and lots of attractions, close to Arundel Castle, Bognor Regis, Worthing etc.
Shop - had basics and fresh bread and papers
Bad points - Fishing Lakes, if you are going here as a fishing holiday don't bother, really expensive to fish and after speaking to different people including local tackle shop the fishing is almost non existent. Unless you are a syndicate member ie own a static caravan, out of 10 lakes there were 1 that you couldn't fish and the ones you could were barely accessible, - we didn't bother.
Facilities far too small for the size of this huge site.
Noise - awful we allowed for being alongside an A road but the noise really was unbearable and during the night it was used as a speed way for the local bikers, sounded like they were outside the door.
Space, some pitches - seasonal were very spacious and although our 26ft van fitted on the pitch it was only just. We wouldn't have been able to put up any bedroom annexes on our awning if we wanted to.
Staff need to explain to visitors about pitching, we came back from a days fishing to find a new neighbour had pitched their tent left a 2 car width for sunbathing and then parked their car 12 inches from our awning, we asked them nicely if they could move and they refused! we explained that is was dangerous for children if our car was parked on the road (their children) as other drivers cannot see if they are playing in between the cars. They eventually moved but complained saying they didn't see why they should have to move, pitches need to be marked out clearly.
Toilets filthy need updating I couldn't get my 12 year old Autistic son in there and I have to say the Elsan point is the worse we have ever seen, it is positioned next to the washing up area with only a few slats of wood to shield it, but it didn't stop the water splashing over to the sinks if you get what I mean - not very sanitary - didn't even have a flush on it just a hose pipe with low water pressure.
The best bit about our holiday was a days fishing trip at Mill Farm Fisheries in Bury, absolutely beautiful, toilets and tea and coffee making facilities.
