Stayed here just after Christmas and although the weather was dreadful with what seemed like endless amounts of rain, we still enjoyed our time at honeybridge. It's a lovely spacious campsite with hard standings for the biggest motorhomes and what turned out to be thankfully good drainage. The shower and toilet block were perfectly usable and always clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and there are some nice (if muddy) walks in the local area.
We stayed here for 6 nights from Saturday 24th August. Check in was quick and the person on reception most helpful as we also enquired about a local taxi service as we had friends staying at The Crown in Dial Post. We also had other friends staying at the site just for 3 nights.
There are 2 areas for tents. The first is a fairly large field which also hosts the children's play area. We were on a 2nd smaller area which has hard standing pitches around the edge and around 5 or 6 tent pitches in the middle. No hard and fast rules, just that you had to be a minimum of a metre from the next tent - that was a bit too close for comfort in my opinion! Both tent areas are open plan, which isn't our ideal choice. However, because it is fairly spacious you didn't feel too crowded.
There are 2 shower/toilet blocks. Compared to other 4* sites we have stayed these were poor in comparison. They were very dated and I would only say they were moderately clean. We used the block nearest to us - showers, 2 private cubicles and half a dozen sinks. The first toilet cubicle did not have a lock, and in the first couple of cubicles the hooks were missing on the doors. There was a notice stating not to put sanitary items down the toilet, yet in one cubicle there was no sanitary bags? That doesn't leave much alternative but to flush down the loo. Another strange thing which struck me - although there was a mop and bucket to clean the shower cubicle, it was a dry bucket. So if you had mopped a dirty, grassy floor, there was no way of cleaning the mop which I felt was a bit strange. In the other shower block (which I tried once), they were marginally newer but still mediocre. However the showers in this block allowed you to control the temperature and they were not of the push button in variety. My husband stated that in the men's block on the smaller field the button would not stay pressed in at all and you had to constantly hold your finger on the button. He got around this by making a Velcro strap.
I cannot comment on the cafe, shop, laundrette as we did not use them. I did notice in the rules it stated you were not allowed to hang washing outside of your unit. I'm not sure why, but this was ignored and plenty of people did.
Beware of the large pothole by the exit barrier. No excuse for this not to be filled in. You cannot avoid it and it is adjacent to where you need to swipe the card. There is a £10 deposit payable for this which is refunded on the return of the card.
There is a fabulous pub in Dial Post - The Crown. It would take around 20 minutes or so to walk there. Everything is sourced locally, from meat to vegetables. They make their own bread, pastry, ice cream, sauces. The staff were extremely accommodating. They only have 1 or 2 guest rooms but our friends rated their breakfast highly and the next minute it was agreed they would cook breakfast for 8 of us the following day. The Petworth slow roasted belly pork had proved popular and sold out. Such was my disappointment they said if we knew we wanted it one evening they would ensure they had some. So we booked for another evening. Needless to say like
Everything else we ate there, it was superb.
There are lots of places within 30 minutes to an hour drive. We visited Brighton (very expensive to park), Worthing, Arundel Castle and West Wittering (for a sandy beach).
In summary I would say the site served it's purpose for our break, but I would not rate it in my top 10 sites, sadly probably in my bottom 5, based on the shower and toilet facilities and comparing these with other 4* sites we have stayed at. There isn't anything to do on site, however we knew this before we had booked. So people who reflect this negatively in their reviews should perhaps look more closely on the site's own website and ensure it does have a clubhouse etc, if that is a priority for you.
We stayed for two nights with our children (2 and 5) and dog. Lovely family campsite. It is very open with a small play area in the middle. There were lots of families with children with a mix of campers and caravanners. As other reviewers have mentioned there isn't a lot else on site so if you have wet weather it could feel a bit bleak with little shelter. There are two shower/toilet blocks. Both were clean but the ones by the Honeypot cafe had better showers - more powerful and warmer.
There is a small fenced in dog walking wood just opposite the campsite and other walks nearby. We went to the garden centre which is about 10 mins walk away where they have a cafe and small indoor play frame/soft play area. This was great for our kids to burn off some energy on a rainy afternoon (and only 50p donation required for each kid!).
We went to Southwater Country Park which is about 15 mins drive. Couldn't get motorhome into the main car park due to height restrictions but we fitted into the overflow car park. Nice playground, cafe and pretty lake to walk around.
We enjoyed our weekend away at Honeybridge and will definitely return.
Lovely, clean, spacious site but it is in the middle of nowhere. It could definitely do with an entertainment lounge/bar area as so little to do on site. Or how about a pool as there is room?
We went on a bike ride along the lanes but you will need to beware if you have children on bikes too due to the traffic.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming but I am sorry we won't be returning unless there are more facilities.
Check in was extremely efficient and the lady on reception was very friendly and polite. As we approached our pitch, a friendly man appeared on his tractor to tell her where our boundaries were and in what direction to pitch our tent. We were on the edge of the main field (where the play area was) and were extremely happy with the location of the pitch. The toilet blocks were near enough and we could keep an eye on the children in the play area.
The shop on site is fairly basic but has the essentials.
The food from the on site cafe was delicious and the couple running that were very nice.
The toilets and shower blocks were clean (free) and we didn't have to queue at all for showers and toilets.
The only negative, which was not the fault of the owners, was the families either side of us who were quite noisy both nights. The information leaflet we were given mentions cars not being allowed between 11pm and 7am but there is nothing about noise. One of our neighbours had music very loud well past 11pm on the last night and had also partially blocked the access road with a gazebo and windbreaks. This meant that it was difficult for the people camping in the inner part of the field to get there cars in and out.
We stayed at the site bank holiday weekend. Very easy to find and the receptionist was very helpful on arrival. We were shown to our pitch and told where to find all the facilities. The showers and toilets were kept clean and didn't seem to be very busy even though the campsite seemed packed out. We didn't have to queue for the showers. Water was also nice and hot.
The shop although small, stocked what we needed. We didn't use the cafe, but plenty of people did. We don't have small children, but the play area was busy and looked great for the kids. There was also an indoor recreation room which seemed to be used a lot by the children.
Our main reason for choosing the site was because it wasn't too far from the 'Downs Link'. The receptionist gave us directions of how to get there on our bikes and we had a fantastic day out cycling. On route we also stopped for refreshments at Southwater visitor centre. We also cycled to a pub called the Fountain which was about 3 miles away. This had a lovely outside area.
There is a big garden centre near the campsite with various outlets within it, but everything else is a drive away. If you want to get away from it all apart from the other campers this is the place to go. We will be visiting again soon
Never been here before and booked blind on the same day as we arrived due to last minute issues with our former site. How lucky were we!
The site is very spaciously laid out with mix of semi permanent vans and mostly holiday making tourers like ourselves, the site rises up from the entrance to a gentle hill with border hedges to adjacent fields and woods to each of the other sides with some lovely walks and cycle routes.
The staff are a joy to interact with at the main desk and very helpful indeed, the shop and cafe are run by an older couple who do the most awesome brekkie at very good value, and although the shop is limited in its wares and stock it caters for the essentials including large ice freezer and plenty of beers and wines and soft drinks to go with the barby!
Also enough gizmos to keep our kids happily trekking back and forth - funniest thoing though is the sign that says they don't sell water bombs etc - yet they are allowed on site and can be purchased from 'the Works' within the garden centre at the bottom of the road (all of 10mins walk!).
We were luckily graced with pretty good weather, but even if it had of rained the site was well maintained and set up for free flowing drainage.
The facilities for cleaning. Washing, showers etc were scrupulously cleaned twice a day I think, and whilst not brand new were spacious and clean and perfectly functionable.
The play area for the children has been described as shabby, but someone needs an eye test! What play area that isnt brand new doesn't look shabby a bit for having loads of kids playing on it! Our children - 10 and 7 loved it and want to go back as they had an amazing time, and so did my wife and I and we will certainly book again.
There isnt much by way of shops etc immediately surrounding the site and they are a short 10min drive away, but that is perfect for the likes of us - oh and the Butchers at patridge Green is a true delight - make sure you go there, and don't be put off by the queue outside which never seemed to dwindle whilst the place was open - a bit pricey as all good butchers are these days, but boy oh boy was the meat good and their pies are to die for
Just arrived back from Honeybridge Park after 7 days there.
What a fantastic place and the best we have been to so far. The facilities were clean and always stocked with toilet roll (big bonus).
The shop was well stocked and the park was brilliant for the kids, loved the fact it was in the middle and the tents round it so we could sit and enjoy watching them play knowing they were safe.
The games room came in handy for them when the rain came. Very friendly staff especially the receptionist who was very helpful.
Will certainly be returning to this campsite again.
We are literally just back from a weekend at Honeybridge Park and although the weather was appalling, the park and the staff were excellent.
I arrived on Friday at 1pm and although I was an hour early for check in, they let me in straight away, very helpful lady in reception and a nice chap in his tractor met me at the pitch.
We were pitch 34, right on the corner and only 3 pitches away from the toilet block. We had lots of space, good sized pitch. Although the ground was soggy, our pitch was still pretty good so pitched with no problems.
The park itself is lovely, set down a little lane off the A24 which I know some people say you can hear the road, but we didn't or if we did, we certainly didn't notice it. There are some great open spaces for kids to run around in and a nice big play park too. We don't have children but the ones we saw seemed to be having a great time.
The toilet block we were closest too had lots of bins and water points and also a good sized washing up room with freezers, 5 sinks in there and about 3 or 4 freezers, never had to queue to wash up. There is also a chemical toilet disposal point and a family bathrooom.
The toilets and showers in this block, although spotlessly clean are a bit dated, the shower cubicles are very small but the shower a good size. Unfortunately it took about 4 minutes for me to get hot water and I had to keep my hand on the button, very frustrating, but once the hot water came through it was a nice temperature, not too hot. The OH said pretty much the same about the gents.
The main block however is obviously much newer. The toilets are very bright, good sized cubicles and again, kept nice and clean.
We didn't use the games room but there seemed to be enough in there to keep people amused.
The shop was ok, very small but the basics are there and it was reasonably priced. There is a little cafe which, although we didn't eat at, other people told us it was great.
All in all, this is a lovely little site and seems to be very popular.
My only criticism would be that there were children playing cricket in the small area of free grass behind our tent and the ball kept hitting it, perhaps they could limit ball games like that to the larger field by the park.
If possible there should be a strike time in the morning. The family behind us started packing up at 6:30am which woke us and we were unable to go back to sleep. I know this is hard to police and its more down to other peoples courtesy but it was rather irritating.
All in all, we thought this was a lovely little park, the surrounding area is lovely, lots of little lanes to explore and I would recommend this park to anyone. It's fairly close to our home (about 35 miles) and although we intend to use different sites every time we camp to see different areas, we would go back again
Good old Dad chose to take us to Honeybridge for half term. The wettest, stormiest June on record, ending the hosepipe ban in one constant shower, combined with winds that had ended several holidays early. We were no exception and by Friday the waterlogged grass and mud around the tent sent us home 2 days early.
This aside the site was well laid out with a large pitch with electric hook-up provided to fit our tent with porch, trailer and people carrier.
We found that the facilities were all there but just seemed a bit tired, as someone commented on last year, there were small things broken or not complete.
We liked the security gates as our George (nickname Mick Dundee)often likes to go walkabout. The shop and cafe were good and always open.
We were surprised by how many people completely ignored some site rules, the late night noisy tents, mountain bikes speeding across pitches between tents and dog owners who couldn't understand 'please walk your dogs off site', with 4 children under 6 we found that this took the shine off.
The 'playpark' consisted of several rotten timbers and a muddy hole in the ground with some old tyres in it claiming to be a sand pit, we struggled to find enough sand to fill a sand castle bucket. Some bits of the wood were incomplete and dangerous and no piece of red and white tape will stop children.
Honeybridge is obviously looking to develop as someone else mentioned and this means no money is being spent, thus it feels a bit run down and unloved.
Enough, the good stuff, all the facilities were kept clean and showers etc had plenty of hot water. Although the site was busy we never had to queue and the family bathroom was a godsend to bath four small ones at the same time.
Locally we enjoyed the Jubilee celebrations in Horsham a town with a really nice friendly feeling, we also visited Worthing and
Littlehampton but with rubbish weather not much to do at either. Our trip to Amberley looked good and kids enjoyed the electricity museum until the rain, the train has no windows so we all got soaked. Good to know Amberley let tickets be reused any time in next 5 days and staff here very friendly and helpful.
We would visit this area again but would stay somewhere with better kids play facilities as this takes so much pressure from parents.
Booked ahead for one night on a Saturday and were delighted when we arrived to find a well organised site with hardcore pitches on level ground.
Good hedge divisions breaking up the site and lots of tidy pitches that are being used for the whole season. Nicely spaced out but not busy on the night we stayed.
Good shop and cafe menu although we did not eat here. Clean showers and toilets.
Purchased fresh provisions from a garden centre (Crumbs?) on the other side of A24 before we arrived.
We stayed at Honeybridge Caravan Park from May 12th for 2 weeks.
What a gem of a site. We loved it, especially our second week when the sun was shining!
Jan who runs the site is fantastic, whatever you need to know, she’s your woman. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
The site has good facilities and is very well kept. The showers do get a bit busier during weekends when there are more people with tents, but other than during this time, they were very quiet.
There is a small shop on site, that also serves breakfasts etc but we never used it, although we did hear that they were recommended.
There are laundry facilities, £4. 50 for the washing, and about £3. 80 for the dryer. There is also a washing up room.
The site is very close to local garden centres, we would reccomed the one near to Findon, they have a very good car wash.
Other places we would recommend are the fish and chip shop in Ashington together with the Red Lion pub, also in that area. There is also a small Coop in Ashington.
We loved the site and found the location ideal to visit many places including London (via train from Horsham), Portsmouth, Worthing, Bognor Regis, Goodwood Races and many more.
Second time we have been to this site. On arrival everything good, however nothing has been up-graded since our last visit in 2005/6 apart from the fact that they have added loads of statics where we first camped.
Reception very helpful on arrival. Whoever took booking had only booked us for 2 nights when we had asked for 3 but they managed to accommodate us.
I think this site is very expensive considering what is available on the site, we are visiting a site in the New Forest in a few weeks which has swimming pool and bar/entertainment which is about the same price.
We visited the small site shop when we arrived and the lady in the shop was not very helpful however on a second visit there was a man in there that could not have been more helpful so I would put the first visit down to an offday.
Facilities were well kept and I do like the fact that a keycard (£10 deposit)is required to use the barrier to get into the site, I am led to believe that the current owner has applied for more static pitches thus cutting down even more on the tourers/tenters and motorhomes.
We stayed here at Easter. Unfortunately the weather wasn't brilliant, but my boys enjoyed the kids easter egg hunt and drawing competition and made some friends in the games room, which has a TV, ping pong and pool table. There is also a large outdoor playground.
The staff were excellent. The lady in reception was very friendly and had lots of suggestions for things to do. There is a small shop and cafe which does a good breakfast and the couple running it were very helpful and kind.
There are two shower blocks which are both heated. Everything was very clean and tidy.
Apart from the weather we all had a great time and will definitely be back again in the summer.
We had an enjoyable stay here but were dissapointed with the general standard and appearance of site. First impression was that the site was run down with garden beds unkempt and litter and generally things broken like toilet door locks, showers.
Weeds in the play area. It all needed a good tidy up and maintenance work. Games room basic. It was all OK but not up to the quality expected from the AA Camping Guide which gave it 4 Pennants and 88%.
The lady in reception was superb and very helpful as were the people running the shop. I must say the shop was very basic and the cafe but what we had was good and reasonably priced.
The noise from the road was definitely bad and deterred from the camping experience. Our pitch was fine and plenty big enough.
A friendly site and the children had a good time hanging out at the play area which was visible from our tent.
We had a good meal at the Coach House pub in Cowfold 10 mins away, good for children and dogs.
Can recommend Southwater Country Park near Horsham also a nice modern little shopping precinct at Southwater Village with good Co-op and bike shop.
The pub in the Dial Post is excellent also but no play area for children. We also went to the Heritage Museum at Amberley which was excellent.
