Friendly staff all work extremely hard. Good variety of entertainment, all geared up for young kids. Food in the restaurant is great quality, especially the Sunday carvery. Quick service in the bars! Honestly can’t fault the place.
The beach is great. Beach shack has great range of snacks all reasonably priced. Had lots of fun crabbing and kayaking. Also friendly fisherman sells cracking lobsters and crabs!
Tent pitches are well laid out on shelves, loads of room. Shower blocks are superb, very clean, great laundry room. The place is spotless. Mini market has everything you need, reasonably priced too.
The Jurassic coast is amazing, make sure to take a cruise from Stuart line cruises in Exmouth! Fabulous
Went to Ladram Bay for 6 nights in September, camping pitches are on a series of ledges so everyone gets a sea view, pitches are flat with grass and a gravel road in front for car access, all pitches have hook-up and water with a drain.
Two sets of toilet blocks less than 3 minutes walk from pitches, 1 which was a modern block, we used both blocks and preferred the older ones due to how powerful the showers were, both blocks have touch screen shower controls with the new block having touch screen heating controls. Both blocks were spotlessly clean all the times we went no matter what time day or night and were both well stocked.
Fish & chip shop was only open 5pm-9pm as off peak season but food was excellent quality and reasonably priced. Another plus point is the excellent swimming pool 20-25 metres long by 8-10 metres wide with a separate toddlers area with a small slide, complex also includes a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and a gym.
The site is situated on the South West coastal path and has stunning views of the coast towards Sidmouth (3-4 miles) and Budleigh Salterton (4-5 miles).
We didn't use the beach facilities due to the time of the year but again a stunning setting if you get the weather.
If you want to camp somewhere where you never have to leave the site, this would be perfect for you. It's like a small town: it has a pool, kids' entertainment, (expensive) supermarket, bars, fish & chip shop, restaurant, cabaret and direct access to the beach.
And it is huge. There must be around 150 camping pitches, but most of the site is 'holiday lodges'. They surround the pitches, cascading down the sides of the valley.
There had been recent ground clearance works at the top of the site, and a large new building almost completed, which led me to think that the site is being expanded even further (online satellite image appears quite out of date). It felt more like a housing estate than a campsite, campers seemed to keep themselves to themselves.
Staff were pleasant and professional, but in a rather 'corporate' way, reminiscent of a hotel chain (not helped by the fact that they wear uniforms that make them look as though they should be behind the counter of a high street bank!).
Motorhome/caravan pitches were all in one section of the site, on hardstanding, and all had EHU, water and waste water drain. The site was terraced, and the shower/toilet block was in the centre of this area. The steepness of the site meant that some campers needed to use their cars to get to/from the facilities.
The shower/toilet facilities were plentiful, free, modern and very clean. However, they were already showing signs of poor maintenance (eg, loose hooks in partitions in showers and mastic peeling away). This was also reflected in the grounds: the grass was clearly cut very regularly, but weeds, including brambles, around the pitch perimeters had been left untended.
For the prices charged, I would expect better attention to routine maintenance. The £28 we paid may not have been expensive for a hardstanding pitch with EHU, but grass and no EHU was not an option. However, two cyclists sharing a small tent were charged £25 for the night, which I felt was very dear.
Excellent site with fantastic views over the coast. Toilet facilities were spotless at all hours and in all weathers, in fact the whole site was spotless.
The staff in Reception, Restaurant and shop were all polite, friendly and helpful. The staff in the bar were exceptionally friendly and made my Daughter's holiday with their cocktails!
Good spot to visit lots of attractions and the village of Otterton is beautiful. Nearest supermarket in Exmouth but good local shops close by.
The only thing missing for me was a plug in the toilets for hair straighteners. Thanks Ladram we will be back !
We just got back from our holiday to Ladram bay Holiday park and well it was fantastic! Everyone there we so lovely and polite and very helpful from the minute we arrived they towed our tiny freedom Jetstream caravan up to the pitch with a tractor as steep going up to pitch but DON'T let this put you off as it not as bad as you may think.
The site had its own beach which was amazing! The shop was full of everything and very good prices was cheaper than our local shop at home (NEWCASTLE)! The fish and chip shop was very nice as it was only 2 minutes walk from beach so could have fish and chips on beach.
The caravan site itself as on a hill and the caravans where on dropped levels and quite a steep walk up to caravans and toilets but worth it for the beautiful sea view. Toilet block we had to use as we where on the Ridges where very modern, immaculate and clean, constant hot water, didn't have to touch taps or shower as all done my had motion sensor, they never ran out of toilet paper as that is my pet hate.
There was plenty for children too, lovely big park near the bar and restaurant so parents can sit and have a cold on one on the huge balcony while they watch the kids in park.
Large swimming pool, amusements, pool or snooker table they both look the same to me, bowling alley just small with 2 lanes. Most the small kids loved the rock pooling nets, buckets, rods, dingy's etc available to buy at the shop on the beach. You can even hire a boat and other sea worthy devices.
Beautiful chocolate box villages all around and lots of beaches and gift shops.
We booked two nights at this site but only stayed one. The website gives no indication of how steep this site is, yes we expected terraces but not the sheer scale of the site. Check in was very abrupt with no info at all on the site, just told to wait in the car park to be sited.
If you have a caravan you have to have it towed to the pitch by their tractor, in a motorhome you just follow the tractor. We were allocated a pitch at the very top of the site, nice view, but still obstructed by the van in front and trees, the toilets and showers were two tiers down the hill, very modern and lovely but quite a trek down the very steep hill, we were also right next to the entrance road which was very busy all day.
The worst bit was there are no bins anywhere on site except down at the bottom of the hill in the car park, so you had to keep the rubbish in the motorhome or walk to the bottom of the hill to bin it, they said this was due to seagulls, but many other sites use gull proof bins with no problems.
Our main gripe with this site is it claims to be dog friendly, it is not, they obviously don't really want dogs at all. There are no dog bins until you get to the coastal path, there is no proper dog walking area, (as we left site I saw a small sign saying Dog Walk in a field which was full of parked cars up by the site entrance, hardly a safe environment).
There are signs everywhere saying no dogs, no dogs on the beach, OK I get that, but that also includes the beach bar terrace on the slipway down towards it, there was also one on the path up to the main bar terrace, but most people seemed to ignore that.
If you are staying in one of their properties at the bottom of the hill, and don't have a dog I'm sure you will find this site brilliant, but it was definitely not for us.
What a great site this is. At first I was thinking this could be a difficult site to actually drive to, however, on the final approach there is a steep decline down to the Security and reception area. We were greeted by a very happy Security man who directed us to park up and unhitch the caravan, and a tractor will come along and take the caravan to the pitch. The family went and checked us in and 2 minutes later we are following the tractor to our pitch. It was amazing, the view from the pitch was superb, the pitch was clean and fully serviced as per the advertisement. In reality we could have stayed on the site all week without having to leave for anything. We had a really stress free stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. Entertainment was good, the beach and facilities fantastic and the bars and food in the restaurant was again very good indeed. We will book again. We tried to book for the summer but the weeks we wanted were booked. Shame.
This is a large caravan and campsite, can feel lots of caravans, but when we were there not that busy. It has very modern well maintained facilities. In fact they are excellent. The site is sloping down to the sea so there is a view of the sea from most sites ( that my guess) The SWC goes through the site. There is a decent bar and restaurant in the main building. There is also a takeaway. Phone signal ok, mobile data very slow.
Wifi in main building. Swimming pool, but not used by us says Samna and steam room, extra charge pool, minor charge. Staff friendly. If walking idea for a lay down day, with laundrette and shop.
Disappointed with some selfishness of some campers being noisy, ie TV on in tents till very late at night and some drivers too fast on campsite roads. Not managements fault, but not spelt out in booking.
Stayed for a week in the school holidays as a group of 3 tourers. Arrived via some very narrow lanes with steep hills! Caravans are pitched for you as the site is very steep. Toilet block exceptional. Huge on site shop at reasonable prices. Takeaway is the usual fare but service is slow. Entertainment is the standard stuff including bingo. Bar a bit pricey. We ate in the Pebbles restaurant and as a group of 13 we booked our table and pre ordered our food. The food was good but the service was shocking. This was made worse as one pitch in our group had received a voucher for the restaurant as they had to constantly complain about a poorly fitting drain cover in the middle of there awning which smelt awful in the heat.
The beach is only a couple of minutes walk from the pitch. It is a pebble beach with nothing for kids to do unless you hire a kayak or motor boat. We drove to Exmouth which has a lovely sandy beach. Kids are banned from bikes/ scooters and skateboards due to the steepness of the roadways. They can us them but only in the play area which is nowhere near the pitches. This park is predominately for static owners with boats.
No shops or pubs near by and supermarket shopping is in Exmouth, however we had Tesco deliver direct to the pitch. Very poor phone and Internet. One of our party paid for wifi and that wasn't too good either.
Just left this site pitches on a hill but staff take your caravan too pitch which is excellent and the views are superb. Toilet block and laundrette best we have had in a long time, plenty hot water and very clean, was only here for two nights an can honestly say the noise of the seagulls from 4 o'clock in the morning onwards was horrendous for that reason wouldn't return which is a pity as a nice site
This is the first time we had visted this site which is in a lovely beautiful part of devon - we had a pitch on smugglers which i booked only after lots of research to ensure that our tent would fit as tent pitches advertised are rather small, however after a couple of phone calls was assured by jamie that we had been allocated their second largest pitch 173 and this would be more than adequate for our tent
On arrival and after being shown to our pitch by groundsman - we had been allocated pitch no 154 which was only approx 10m x 7m, there had been a mix up in the office and someone had changed our booking - as they were now fully booked we couldn't change !
We couldn't pitch the extention to our outwell tent so my husband and i slept in the living quarters for our holiday
The seagulls are a complete nuisance - they raid your bbq and steal food, poo over everything !
They wake you up at 4. 30am in the morning by screaching and fighting on the roof of tents and caravans
The family next door to us had food stolen from them while eating on the terrace of pebbles restaurant.
While at your tent your are constantly watched/stalked by the seagulls looking for opportunities to steal food
However, there are many nice things about this campsite/holiday park
- great swimming pool
- the showers and toilets block are lovely and modern and always kept very clean
- views of the sea from your pitch are great
- you can buy fresh lobster and crab caught from the bay from the crab shack on the beach at a very reasonable price
- staff are very friendly and helpful
However i doubt we will go back due to the seagulls and the ridiculously small tent pitches
Our second stay at this very nice holiday park. If you have a family, this is a must. However, we do not and this is still a really nice site. The pitches are clean and well tended. The staff helpful and all were very pleasant and helpful. We pitched on the Ridges with spectacular views of the sea. Enjoyed sitting out each evening as the sun went down and the site gradually fell into a tranquil evening darkness. The pool area is newly refurbished and the site has done well. The changing village is clean and has many nice touches. So, what about bad points? To be honest, there are not many. However, I can name three here:
A)we bought wifi for the week and this was expensive and not reliable and only works on one device.
B) There were no hooks outside the shower area for towels so we had to put them in a pile and hope they stayed dry while we showered after swimming.
C) No bins in the touring fields was a little annoying.
Would we go back? Yes, most certainly. We would highly recommend this site.
We were looking forward to staying at this site, with a wonderful beach location and all the facilities, however, was bitterly disappointed.
We stayed in The Ridges which is very steep to enable the views of the sea, but this was actually not much of a view when you have vehicles in front of you and you also have the full view of the main blocks which house the restaurant/ entertainment etc. This is also located next to the main drive which from 6. 30am until late at night has constant traffic, not the tranquillity we expected. I didn't see one caravan site themselves this was always done by the tractor. No local bin sites for your rubbish which was also located at the bottom of the drive.
There is only one main child play area, which is very good for the kids with a zip wire etc. But this is located at the bottom of the main drive out of sight. Very disappointed no smaller parks/playing areas dotted around the touring or caravan park, so your not able to relax around your own residence. Luckily our children were old enough to walk around unsupervised to this area but I felt really sorry for the couples with younger children. Not enough seating around the area for all the families to sit around while watching the kids therefore you had to stand or if you decided to stay by your residence you had bored kids with nothing to do (no bikes/ scooters/ skates allowed) or you were constantly telling them to keep out the road because of the cars if they tried to play.
It is NOT dog friendly. They are not allowed on the beach at all, and there is not a signposted 'dog field'. We had to ask staff where we walk him to be told either across one field into another (which had stingers all over the place and cows on it) or another field which was located at the bottom of the drive and round the back of the facilities, this was the better field to use. Apart from by these fields there were no Dog Poo bins located around the site. Staff explained the nearest Dog Friendly beach was 3 miles away (Budleigh Saltington) around the coastal walk which we decided to do on one day, this turned out to be a 4-5 mile walk, it was tiring for our dog but we made it and had a really good time. Got a taxi back. We then decided to alternate staying on site and going to the beach. The 2nd and 3rd times to the beach we went to Exmouth which is sand and lovely. Loads of motorhomes park on the front and very reasonable charges for the day.
This kids did enjoy themselves as they used the swimming pool, crazy golf, park and arcade, unfortunately we were unable to enjoy these as a family.
On our last day we were at Exmouth Beach and decided not to bother going back to Ladram Bay and went to a little campsite called Pooh Cottage, this was tranquillity and for one night had total peace of mind of being able to see the kids while they played, was able to join in with them and keep an eye on our vehicle and dog at the same time. They could also play on their bikes etc.
Just back from our first camping holiday as a family (2 adults, 2 kids aged 5 and 1). I feel we have possibly been spoilt for our first camping holiday due to the weather was glorious and the site was absolutely fantastic! We we're in the Smugglers campsite side and the pitches are tiered with lovely views over the campsite and sea. Each pitch comes with electric hookup and water tap. The toilet blocks we're not to far to walk to and all modern and I always being kept clean. The hairdryer you do have to pay for which is 50p which I feel could have been free (this may be a standard on all campsites?). The beach area is lovely though is pebbles and you will need crocs/beach shoes for walking on and into the water. We hired a motor boat for £20 (1hour) and had a great time viewing the coastline and general mucking about on the water. You can also hire kayaks. The outside play area for the kids is brilliant, just off the show bar and cafe/restaurant. The views are spectacular form here too. There is lots for the kids to do (however ours didn't want to get involved and was happy playing in the park). We didn't try the swimming pool however judging by all the other facilities we tried I am sure this would be a lovely pool too! The on site shop is well stocked if you need anything. The receptionist was really helpful too. This site is quite big and reminded me a little bit of Haven as very geared up for families but better! Dogs are welcome on this site too. I'm not sure what more I can say is that we would thoroughly recommend this site and are definitely looking forward to going back.
