We stayed here a few weeks ago and will probably return, notwithstanding having a few reservations.

It had apparently rained prior to our arrival and as a consequence the river Ouse was in flood. We live next to river ourselves; hence we appreciate this produces increased noise levels. What we didn't expect however was the roaring waterfall and the constant whine from the Archimedes screw turbine, both of which were next to the lock.

This noise is beyond the control of the owners, and it will not affect our ranking, but light sleepers may wish to be aware of the possibility of it happening following wet weather. I spent the first night dreaming that I was at the bottom of the aeroplane steps waiting to board whilst the jet engines warmed up. Thankfully, by the second night the river had abated, and the noise, whilst still present, was much less of an issue.

Our only quibble about the site itself is that they chose to close the toilets for cleaning before mid morning. Mrs Sool likes to take her time getting started when we're away, and found the facilities were temporarily out of action by the time she got up, which she found rather irritating.

The toilets and showers were however immaculate.

The owners were friendly and the associate pub and dining facilities looked good. One of our neighbours had eaten in regularly and recommended it by saying 'Boy, that woman certainly knows how to cook!'

The lock was interesting to see in action and quite a few boats passed through during our stay. We had hoped to be able to walk along the river beyond the lock, but the signs all suggested that this was out of bounds unfortunately.

Just returned from a short 3 night stay over the may day bank holiday. You will find it hard to find a site in a better location. We had a pitch over looking the river and the lock. Lovely peaceful campsite and the toilets were clean and modern. There is two toilets and showers and we did not have to queue once. You need a key code for the toilets but its easy to remember. There's a small cafe and bar by the lock. We had lunch before we left, sandwiches, chips and a jacket potatoes. Reasonably priced and lovely. The evening menu is not extensive but it is a cafe.

We paid 18 a night for a family of four with a dog!. We used less than 1. 00 of electricity a day and we had a fan heater, coolbox, and phone chargers. You do have to pay for the showers but when you are paying 18 a night who cares.

I only have one fault with the site and that's the washing up facilities. There's only one Belfast sink without a plug so take a bowl with you. The hot water does not run for long so we got hot water from the ladies toilets. If they better facilities for washing up this would be one of my favourite sites, but if you have a caravan it would not be a problem.

There are some lovely riverside walks from the sites to nice villages with great pubs. You could sit by your tent and watch the boats if you wanted.

For what we paid this is a fab site and we will be going back.

Really enjoyed our visit, our first! Amazing views of the lake and country side. Bit quiet but in camping you make your own entertainment. Husband was fascinated by the lock when the boots came through. Had to come home on day 3 of our visit because the rain was so bad it flooded our tent. Cant blame the site for that. The remainder of our days where left open for us to visit and use at anytime we want.

Only negative for me was having to pay 1 for a 20 min shower and 20p for the hairdryer. Also 1 cards for your electric even though you pay extra for electric hook up.

Owners very apologetic about us having to leave and were very nice and welcoming.

Recommend to all

Just arrived home after spending the weekend at Linton Lock, were do I start we loved every minute of it we couldn't fault anything the toilets and showers were immaculate at all times, the pub was quite cheap, we didn't try the food but everyone we spoke to who had eating highly recommended it, nothing was too much trouble for the owners, the owners son even used his JCB to pull us out because the rain had softened the ground, everywere was well kept we will definitely be going back, but for longer next time.

This is a lovely small site. The owner was very helpful and friendly and the place was immaculate.

We were booked on to the river view field for 2 nights but when we arrived, the owner informed us that the camping field was empty and we didn't require electric so we decided to go for this. As previously mentioned by other campers this camping field is the flood field for the river and does seem daunting when you see the huge metal gates but the plus' of the field make up for this.

The whole field is fenced off with a lockable gate which when camping with an adventurous 2 year old this was excellent. The field was mostly level with only slight gradient for drainage. We enjoyed having all the space to ourselves though I think that it would have been a different experience had there been other campers in field.

The facilities were quite a walk from the field. The facilities were immaculate at all times. In the ladies there were 2 toilets, one been disabled accessible and 2 showers. My other half said there was 1 toilet and 2 urinals and 2 showers in men's. As mentioned before the showers are 1 for 20mins which is maybe a bit expensive considering you then have to pay 20p for the hairdryer! Though the water was hot and good pressure. The pot washing was on the small side with no real workspace.

On site there is a cafe/pub which we didn't sample but did hear favourable comments about the reasonable prices and good quality, we intend to visit again so we will sample it then!

In the village the was a general store that stock pretty much all you would need and we saw a pub/Indian restaurant but didn't have time to sample!

So basically if you wanting a relaxing quiet campsite and you able to make your own entertainment then this is the place for you!

A beautiful location overlooking the river pitch 16. Easy access into York with the park and ride. The site has changed a lot since we visited last year, we were very impressed with the new toilet and shower blocks although the showers are still a pound they are worth it, and finally there is a hairdryer. Campsite staff were very kind and helpful and always there to help even when they were shut. They lent us a cable as we found our own was faulty.

Tried the pub which was on site and we were not that impressed, we ate and drank there once over our weekend stay. We were not overly impressed with the food we had. We also found it very over priced for what we got. The drinks have increased in price dramatically since our last visit. We did find an amazing pub in Newton on Ouse called the Blacksmiths Arms the food was fantastic could not knock anything we ate. They serve various real ales, there was to much to chose from when it came to drink. So a little bit of advise walk so you can try them all, we did what a laugh.

But all in all a fab location we will definitely be returning again.

First time visit to this site and loved every minute. The location, views and surrounding area are amazing. We set up on the river view field next to the river overlooking the lock and weir which was gorgeous to wake to.

The site facilities are excellent and mostly new and we never had to wait for the showers, the grassed areas were well kept although part of our pitch had been re-seeded following wear but didn't cause any problems.

The small cafe / bar on site is lovely and the homemade chips or chilli Nachos are well worth a try. York was close by and the park and ride made shopping easy.

We will be going back to this well run site and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet site with amazing views.

We visited here for 6 nights during August with our 2 children 11 and 6 and 2 dogs. Pitch was overlooking the river and was plenty big enough for the caravan, awning and partitioning windbreaks.

Only downside was there was a large mudpatch in the middle of the riverside field, which was a bit pongy. We used 5 worth of electricity and that was using the electric kettle, 2 TV's and the fridge, lights etc.

But beware the way the pitches are means that your hook up may be in the middle of someone else's pitch so if you need to top up the electricity (you have to buy cards) you might have to go onto next doors pitch.

On site pub is nice, quite cheap and there are plenty of local walks, pubs etc. Toilets/showers are clean although the 20 minutes for the shower is way too long and they don't drain that well.

York is close by and we used the park and ride which is 2. 60 per adult, kids are free and that includes all day parking and the buses run every 10 mins.

Another bonus is most tourist venues (jorvik etc. ) is admission gives 12 months return visits so we will come back next year. (personally, I thought Jorvik was way overpriced but check out DIG, the kids loved it)

Very picturesque site, but tents seem to be a second thought. This site seems primarily for static, caravans and motor homes and then where these units could not go, tents were given the space.

We were directed to a very flat area, but this had the overflow gate for the river. On a wet bank holiday weekend, this could be worrying, but they were not used.

The managers, were helpful. There is a cafe on site, which is not linked to the site.

There is no play area, but space to run around and play games.

The facilities are a bit limited. From our pitch it was a bit of a hike to the toilets and showers. (Our neighbours went up in their car)

There were 2 toilets for the ladies and 2 showers in the ladies and gents. There were queues to use the toilets and showers some of the time.

The showers cost 1, which is a bit steep, even though they are on for about 20 min, which is far to long for most people. The washing up facilities are equally limited with a single Belfast sink, that was not undercover, with a narrow shelf to put washed and dry pots. There were often queues to use this solitary sink.

There is no shop on site, but a local shop 10 minutes walk away, if you turn left out of the site. There are also 3 very nice pubs. Turn left and there is a pub 15 minutes walk away, turn right and there are 2 more, 20 minutes walk away.

The site is also very handy as a base to visit York and the surrounding area.

We spent 4 nights at this site which is only a 10 minute drive into York.

We were allocated a large pitch in the corner of the electric hook up field and noticed immediately that we were a good 500 - 600 metres away from the toilet and shower facilities.

The site soon filled with other campers with tourers and tents sharing the same field but it never looked overcrowded.

The cafe/pub on the site is excellent and the food is superb. Children can help open and close the lock if they wish which our kids loved.

We took 4 dogs and there are numerous footpaths and fields for walking, one of which goes to Newton on Ouse (20 minutes walk) where the Blacksmiths Arms is highly recommended.

All in all a good cheap site but the only let down is the long walk to the toilet facilities and lack of them (1 toilet and 2 wet rooms in the Gents, 2 toilets and 2 wet rooms in the ladies)
